T-Mobile Introduces Two myTouch by LG Smartphones

T-Mobile just sent out a midnight press release announcing the upcoming availability of two new Android powered smartphones that are part of T-Mobile’s signature myTouch line. Introducing the T-Mobile myTouch and T-Mobile myTouch Q. Both devices will run on T-Mobile’s 4G network, a pleasant surprise considering our leaked roadmap didn’t indicate both devices as being 4G capable.

The myTouch has a 3.8″ touchscreen with a virtual keyboard powered by swype while the myTouch Q is equipped with a 3.5″ touchscreen with a  slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Both phones are designed with ease-of-use in mind and will each come in two separate color schemes. The myTouch will be offered in both black and white while the myTouch Q will be available in gray or violet. Both devices are powered by Android 2.3 and a 1GHz Qualcomm processor along with 5 megapixel cameras and 720p HD video recording.

T-Mobile’s release indicates both phones will be available in time for the holiday season though we of course have plenty of reason to suspect November 2nd is the launch date. T-Mobile will have a dedicated website for more information about both devices at http://www.t-mobile.com/myTouchbyLG although at the time of this writing the website is not live.

i recently sold my MyTouch 4G slide. going to buy the galaxy s2. but these new phones definitely ruined the mytouch line. mytouch 4g and the slide were really good phones. i dont know about these two phones. i cant believe they are killing the mytouch line..

  • http://www.facebook.com/DeadPlasmaCell Dan Garcia

I still don’t understand the point of releasing these two phones.. They’re basically the same as the original MT4G/MT4G-Slide.

    • ruler_of_limes

They do replace those, not everyone wants a $200+ phone. There are a lot of people coming into stores frustrated because they can’t have something cheap that works and there is definitely nothing good without a data plan.

  • Big Mack

II wonder if they meant 1GHz dual core cause single core on a brand new 4g device is kinda retarded.

  • GaryWillVernon

    SWYPE* not swipe

    • Anonymous

“SWIPER NO SWYPING” w/e still has the same meaning :P

  • Amdestined

Weak T-Mobile just weak. I think they are trying to become Cricket now. They had such good momentum too. This makes me nit wanna be a tmo fanboy anymore

  • Jay

Yea this is disappointing T-Mobile. First you switch manufacturers from HTC (which has a superior track record for building quality hardware) to LG. Now your giving it a lower quality camera and no real upgrade in power and performance? Bleh…

    • Auser72

Huh? what about the mytouch slide 4g, sensation, and amaze? All by htc, all have excellent cameras, and all have superb build quality.

      • fsured

Jay is referring to the current myt4g having the same specs with processor speed and camera.  It’s like a mt4g 1.2 model.  Same phone, same spec hardware, just different manufacture.  Now if this came with a dual core processor even at 1ghz speed, then it would be an upgrade for those who own the current mt4g.

        • Auser72

I guess I misread, but was only pointing out  other options. If You look at the design and specs of The Amaze, its a natural replacement or upgrade of the Mytouch 4G. You have more phones choices at Tmobile than at any other time than i can remember.

      • Jay

Right, HTC makes excellent hardware with very good build quality. Which is why it’s disappointing that T-Mobile chose LG to manufacture the new MyTouch. I agree with “123′s” comment in that it probably all came down to LG making a better deal with T-Mobile than HTC.

  • 123

Eh. the mytouch line was always crappy to me.

I am sure this switch to LG has to do with LG cutting a better deal with tmo than with htc. At the end of the day, it all comes down to money.

    • J-Hop2o6

I think HTC doesn’t want to do anymore “special” phones for Tmo anymore.. Tmo will only get what HTC already makes in Europe.. Somebody else mentioned something similar like this.

      Unless it’ll be like this:

      high-end myTouch= HTC
      mid-end myTouch= LG = lower prices

  • Anonymous

Reminds me of the kin 1 and kin 2 lol. Not going to be a hot seller especially with the iPhone 4′s drop in price to the cost of one of these ($99 16GB). It’s the nexus prime for me and I’m sure most others looking for a hot android phone this year, sorry LG.

  • Moveonrp

I am actually glad to see the myTouch line expanding with some midrange devices, which will probably be $99 or maybe even $49.  These are mid-level devices, more akin to Samsung Exhibit or Gravity SMART.  Let’s face it…not everyone is like us who reads these blogs.  For us, there are high end devices like the GSII, Amaze, etc.  Some people just want a good cheap phone that works.

    • Auser72

Couldn’t agree more with you. Especially true in todays financial climate.

How about annoucing more WP7.5 devices??

    • http://www.facebook.com/TheBigSaxon Daniel Stutzman

This is what I want.  I’m so looking forward to the FCC finalizing the ATT/TMobile merger so that I can get my hands on the HTC Titan for me & wifey.

  • Cupcake

Is it just me but how does a company allow the same name phone by two different manufacturers?  Too confusing.  Can’t LG come up with their own unique model name???!!!      smh

    • Infamouslysin

It was probably more t-mobile’s idea. The my touch brand name is the only phone allowed to have the genius button, a t-mobile my touch trademark.

    • WW

Kinda like Verizon with the “Droid”. Tmo with “Sidekick” and now “MyTouch”. Carriers own the names (actually, Lucas owns “droid” and Verizon pays them to use it) and choose device names, not the manufacturer.

    • Cashman

don’t forget the G2X….very weird name

  • josue cifuentes

LG should just stick to making appliances…..

  • Auser72

What’s with all the negativity? Tmobile is set release arguably two of best smartphones in the market right now. Everyone doesn’t want or can afford a super smartphone. These new phones will allow people to experience the speed and multimedia capabilities of the super smartphone at an affordable price. A win, win situation for everybody.

  • http://cosmicbreeze.tumblr.com/ DtheArtist

Why are people disappointed? Does every phone that comes out have to be for you & Your target market? I thought T-Mobile was serving a “Variety” of customers, not just 1 set. These are great devices! I know so many people that would love this, like my teenage sister, my grandma (lol), so this will & would be great. Not everyone has the money to get a super high-end device, nor do they want one. This allows family & friends to ALL connect. Because some don’t have the money or want some 4″+ to communicate w/ their family (QWERTY keyboard, or just full touchscreen, having access to a front facing camera for video chat), shoot if I were in the market I would get one myself. But, I’m getting a WP7 Mango device (HTC Radar). We have the SGII, HTC Amaze 4G, HTC Sensation 4G, lg g2x (notice why it’s in lowercase, lol),all the new Blackberry’s & list goes on. Everyone is gonna be satisfied, keyword: everyone.

  • Ryan Dawald

man these are some ugly ass phones here

    • The_real_Steve_Jobs

Really?  I’m not a fan or slide-out keyboards, but the phone looks pretty much like the NEXUS S.  Not quite ugly-ass.

  • http://profiles.google.com/mrstrat Randall Ainsworth

Do yourself a favor and don’t buy anything made by LG. Whether it’s a phone or a microwave or a refrigerator, the company is dedicated to producing cheap products. They’re cheap and built to stay that way.

As for phones, just look at the great job they did with the G2X, and that will have you running and screaming in the other direction.

    • Cashman

I made the mistake of buying a DVD player from them, it broke within a month and their support team was awful

  • http://twitter.com/LTEstyles LTEstyles

    3 thumbs down

  • Aerofanbig

Why do all the MyTouch series have to have such huge bezels?! WASTED PLASTIC SPACE! All it does is make the screen look tiny, and in the age of damn near 5″ screens coming out…why make yours look smaller?

    • Jabombardier

because not everyone wants something so big. simple.

  • Guest

JUNK!!! I hate how T-Moble keeps letting LG remake legendary phones. But I guess thats T-Mobile’s thing, being that they let Samsung and Motorola remake classics too! (Sidekick Failures)

    • Cashman

Legendary phones????? The mytouch line has sucked for years. Their only flagship phones were the sidekick and G1.

  • Perno

My wife would love the MyTouch Q as an upgrade to her G1.  These will probably have a low price point as well, $99 or $149 on contract.

  • Tarea222

Guys im seriously felling like leaving T-Mobile. I been with them since 2006 I pay 130 for two 4g phones w 1000 min. But lately their customer service has gone down the drain. I been on hold for 40 min. I called 3 times and got hunged up on. Thinking to leaving to sprint. I really want to stay but I am getting irratated by Tmobile. What should I do?

    • Jabombardier

then you go ahead. if you feel that you aren’t getting your money’s worth then go on to sprint and see what you can get with the two lines. compare plans, and see if it is worth it. then if it is a better, then switch and see if they have better customer service. i left sprint because they were crap but that was 10 years ago.

    • Tylamar70

You are absolutely right, I have experienced the same thing, plus they want slow down my data speed after 5gb but I have unlimited, what a rip off, c service hung up on me as well, they are not the same plus its reported they are losing customers in a high demand business,

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/ZXHLKOBD7PJCNEG34WMRJHUJE4 Brain

I think you should read a book on grammar, and stay in school. you were hunged up on? are you kidding me!

  • Derrick Thomason

IMO, I expected HTC to continue to manufacture the “mytouch” line.  And to be honest if you have the MT4G Touch + MT4G Slider.  Those devices are still winners in my book…..so, if you dont like the LG lineup, buy the HTC MyTouch Line and learn how to “r0ot” so you can get G’bread and updated kernels and software.

Good Job T-Mo for continuing to diversify the handset selections for customers.  Not everyone wants to carry around a 4.0 – 4.3 screen phone with them especially if its their first(as a new customer or upgrade) device. And people still want keyboards…………….

  • Mobileboy

A very interesting thread on the quality of LG products. Remember, they are the former Gold Star, the king of landfill providers. Everything they make fails. At least most Samsung products last. At least my Blackberries last.

Amazing how much junk is produced today. Nothing lasts…especially the South Korean products. Same with most Chinese-made products. So true about the microwaves. I only buy Sharp. As for small kitchen appliances…it’s only Breville, Kitchen-Aid and the Waring products made here in the States. Don’t ever buy Cuisinart. Total Chinese junk with pretty face.

My first Blackberry 9900 bricked after one day. The second one works, but for how long? Both were made in Mexico. I never had a Canadian-made Blackberry fail…ever.

At least with an Apple product, you have a problem and you’re near an Apple Store…just make an appointment online, then go to the Genius Bar…and if they can’t fix it they will give you a replacement on the spot.

When my 9900 bricked, I called Blackberry and they wanted to charge me $49 for a tech call. This was less than 24-hours out of the box. Damn! They did connect me directly with Blackberry support at T-Mobile though…bypassing “Mindy” and “Mary-Lou” in the Phillapines.

    • sino8r

Especially, South Korean products? Isn’t Samsung and HTC based there? Lol! Is contradiction your middle name? ;)

      • Anonymous

HTC is in Taiwan so you fail too :-)

  • nerdlust

At first I thought this was a bad idea but the more I think about it. Every body can’t afford don’t want quad core hd screen. Some people just want to text face book , angry birds, youtube and maybe make a phone call. I think this a nice gateway smartphone, this would be great for first timers and feature phone users looking to upgrade. Bravo tmobile bringing devices for mid range and high end users. Thanks tmonews for keeping me informed.

  • jarjon76

They look cheaply made to me and I don’t see the need for these two devices.

Why does tmobile keep bringing out bottom of the barrel phones? and i mean in comparison to whats out now. I sell these phones and i can tell you bargain phones never really sell for us. As i tell my customers if you’re gonna pay the same amount each month for the phone why would you want last years model?

    • Jca92101

I tell you why … because unless there are heap and bounds of improvement on the hardware that my old phone cant handle with the new software why bother … FREE MyTouch 4g customer over here … oh and by the way … the money i wouldve used to pay for the phone would go to my monthly bill for atleast a quarter. Man … u should sell iphones they are suckers for that talk

    • firebird8

They don’t sell? How many Taps did you sell? Gravity Ts? Comets? Optimus Ts? Exhibits?

Toward the ends I had to refuse to sell Taps because people wanted a cheap touchscreen but I didn’t want to hear about it later.

I’ll grant you the touchscreen plus slide out keyboard craze seems to have passed so the Gravity Smart isn’t selling well, but neither is the My Touch 4G Slide or the Sidekick.

I have this phone, I got it a few days ago, and I’m in love with it :)
the only problem i have is that sometimes when I’m playing games, it freezes then unfreezes, really quick, and I lose -.-
