Samsung Galaxy S II Begins Arriving In T-Mobile Stores In Preparation For Launch

For those of you counting down the minutes and the seconds to the Samsung Galaxy S II pre-order perhaps this image will let you know that T-Mobile is ready and waiting. T-Mobile corporate stores across this great land are beginning to receive their inventory of the Galaxy S II and we’re being told some stores are expecting shipments of 50 plus devices.

Does that indicate that T-Mobile is preparing for a very big launch of are they just playing it safe? Either way, your chance to buy your very own Galaxy S II is almost upon you so I hope you and your credit card are ready.

I don’t know if this is the right move, all signs point to this being a Verizon exclusive.

      • Anonymous

i dont believe this, i know verizon is getting there own version, but i dont think it will launch with just them.  If it does, that’s one of the worse moves google could have ever made.

      • Rob Reder

I still haven’t seen any references that point to it being exclusive other than assumptions and “sources” from blogs that make guesses and call them “exclusive intel” that ends up being wrong more than right (looking at you bgr). I’ll wait until Tuesday to see what Google and Samsung have to say before holding my breath.

    • J. Williams

If it even comes to T-Mobile, it will be awhile. Verizon has it on lock, and nothing has been said otherwise.

No that is the DROID prime they have on lock its not a nexus

  • Ohgeez

Finally!!!  I work for TMO (part time) and cant wait until I get into work today. So far I have plans to get the Amaze but was waiting for the SGII to arrive so I can start comparing the two side-by-side. My mind will be made up by end of day.

Having the SG S4, I’m not the biggest fan of TouchWiz, so I had to change launchers. But with HTC Sense, I love the phone right out of the box.

As for benchmark specs/results, that’s not going to be a factor in my decision. So far, I’ve had no issues with our store’s Amaze. Pretty snappy and love the form factor, hardware keys for video and camera and the pics/video quality. I use my phone a lot for picture taking so this is important to me.

My biggest concern will be the form factor. Personally, I don’t like the way my SGS4 feels and I know the SGII is wider so we will see how this goes tonight.  Either way, I can’t go wrong.

    • tmocali

let us know how you feel today!!  I work for tmo also and I’m extremely torn, leaning toward sgs2!

      • Anonymous

Since you work for T-mo… mind if I ask you a question about upgrades? I’d really appreciate your help :D

    • Auser72

I really like the form factor of the Amaze also, but its hard to overlook the beautiful display of the SGS2.

    • Anonymous

i work for tmo too, and im waiting on the nexus prime.  The amaze is basically a new sensation, galaxy s II is nice but if the nexus is the same thing but better, im getting a nexus.

      • Curious George

For those who want to use their for phone for basics such as checking e-mail, texting, checking websites, playing videos, and are more concerned about not having serious issues (ie. G2x), is it a band thing that it is a new Sensation?  Sensation has been a good phone, correct?  Any additional insight would be appreicated.  Thanks!

        • Anonymous

no the amaze is an awesome phone, you can hook it to a tv, it has faster download speeds than the sensation, and a bit of different outer shell.

        • Curious George

          Thanks Lews.  Good insight.

        • Mastrorj

were some bugs and dislikes/likes with my sensation. Screen is awesome! Sense is great but laggy at times bc not enough ram. Camera (for me) big fail. As a media device i was disappointed. I want to view a pic or play a song. u go to the gallery then hit picture, then it takes u to the gallery then u click on a pic and then it asks u do u wanna use the HTC player to do this and u have to click yes. lol why all of that for viewing a pic when i dont have any other player installed!? Me n a few people have had the “death grip” issue bc its unibody…Anyone else notice they stopped making phones that way since the sensation lol i could be wrong but i think im correct about that one. I would still go SGS2 over the sensation, the prime has the new ICS OS sooo thats gonna be interesting to see what its like and when we all get it on the GS2 devices.

        • Anonymous

Sound quality is crap it fluctuates and this is my third device, speaker is also weak. Aside from that its a pretty good phone WiFi seems to disconnect from time to time

    • Curious George

Please share your thoughts and the results of your comparison after you get hands on with both.  Thanks.

    • Realgirl4u

Yes, please do share you  thoughts! so fat my mind is made up for the Amaze because I need something more to impress me besides “how pretty” the display is! I have been in two T-Mo stores in my area and have played with a “live” Amaze and the screen looks amazing to me and will work just fine!

For those of you interested in seeing the Amaze and holding it/playing with it in your hand, call your local T-Mo store and ask if they have a “live demo”. If so…go check it out in person.

Also, it doesn’t feel as heavy as I’d assumed from the specs. It feels great, looks great and I like it.

OhGeez – I’m asking what you think of the GS2 because you seem like you were dead set on the Amaze as I am and if the GS2 sways you… I’d like to know why and maybe I will look for a “live demo of this phone if available.

They rightly should stock up. The SGSII line is may be one of the highest success smartphones the Android community has every seen. The specs alone and feedback from our friends over the pond make it out to be a killer device(s). The build quality feels way better over the SGS line and the new screen is nothing short of stellar. I’m all in.

Quadrant is dated, and shouldn’t be used with 2011+ phones.. Use AnTuTu (w/o sd test), NenaMark2 (GPU bench), Linpack (CPU bench), CF-bench, Vellamo, Smartbench 2011.. There might be other current ones.

Hearing rumors that the Nexus Prime will be a Verizon exclusive, should I just get a Galaxy II?

    • Anonymous

i heard it’s going to be verizon exclusive for a month or two.. i’m thinking about waiting… it’s worth the wait!! i just just the specs on that beast i just wish there’s going to be sd card slot and 8 mega pixel instead of 5 mega pixel camera i really really hope!!! (i don’t know why they are putting OMAP chip instead of the new exynos chip… that’s stupid…)

      • Mirsad Karahasanovic

I will wait until they are both out to decide. If it only takes a month or two for Tmobile to get it I would be willing to wait if I like it better than the Galaxy II.

i know im kinda repeating myself here but after playing with the sprint version is a 720p screen gonna be ur deal breaker? bc anything in the prime will be doable in the GS2…ok wait my fault im forgetting about ICS on the prime!! :) Thaaaaaaaats gonna be the huge difference and now after saying that maybe yea u should wait to see what the new OS is all about!

  • Tarea222

Guys im seriously felling like leaving T-Mobile. I been with them since 2006 I pay 130 for two 4g phones w 1000 min. But lately their customer service has gone down the drain. I been on hold for 40 min. I called 3 times and got hunged up on. Thinking to leaving to sprint. I really want to stay but I am getting irratated by Tmobile. What should I do?

    • Razorray15

Last time I called T-Mobile I was on hold for almost an hour only to speak with an individual that I couldn’t even understand. I have been with T-Mobile for 6 Years and was really hoping T-Mobile would have picked up the iPhone this time around but, they didn’t so Sprint is looking good right about now with their Unlimited Plan.

      • Anonymous

I been with T-Mobile for 5 Years and I was planning on going to Verizon for the iPhone (before the announcement) but has been very dissapointed with the release of the new iPhone… Sprint plans do look good only if you get decent service (heard data speed is dramatically slow… their 3g is like on edge…) I’m abit skeptical about that… but their plans looks very attractive. Now, I on the seesaw whether if i should stay and grab the sgII or leave and either get the 4s anyways and/or the prime once it’s announced.

        • Littlesis1774

I am planning on leaving after my contract expires so I started looking. Verizon is steep for me so that just leaves with AT&T and Sprint. Sprint got different unlimited data plans for the iphone 4s. I can do unlimited data with 900 minutes for 89.99 with taxes added that should come to 94 a month for sprint.

        • Anonymous

unlimited data on slow data speed (edge speeds)… unlimited means nothing. I mean if sprint provides REAL 3g/4g speeds (its a vague statement, but comparable to other carrier) then sprints looks good.

    • Anonymous

Don’t go to Sprint right now, they are having major issues with their data speeds. You are lucky to get 200 killabits on the download. Seriously that is how bad it is right now. Many people bought the Samsung GS2 and returned them due to this problem. I could never leave T-Mobile, I get sick data speeds.

      • Raul

True…i got sprint n omg a week later returned that pos. Phone was evo n it was good but internet its bad…plus u have to connect to 4g to use it.

      • Clint

Sprint’s data really is slow and it’s unfortunate. However, hopefully they give it a boost that will suffice seeing as they are now getting the iPhone too.

      • guest

I had the same experience.  I was shocked to see how bad the Sprint data speeds were, and I’m in the Los Angeles area.  I returned the phones to them and cancelled service.  I’m back with TMO.

      • Spanky

I’ve been getting similar downstream speeds on T-Mobile since early August. My speeds dropped from about 2.5 Mbps to 0.2-0.5 Mbps. I called T-Mobile several times, each time receiving assurances that T-Mobile’s engineers are working to rectify the issue. It’s been 2 months, and nothing has changed. I’ve been with T-Mobile since early 2005, but I am seriously considering eating the ETF and taking my business to Verizon once the Droid(?) Prime comes out. What’s the use of paying for service that claims to be 4G when I can’t even get 3G speeds?

    • Mastrorj

Im in the same boat. Every time i call im on hold min 30 min n then i get someone who cant understand what im saying. I called the retention Dept n got someone who was from the US then after asking to speak to her supervisor, The supervisor was from India! WTF lol :) ah i just cant win. I played with the Galaxy2 for sprint for about n hour, just got to sit take pics work the browser and go through the phone. Very impressed. Im NOT bad mouthing tmobile it just doesnt work in my area anymore, well enough for what i need. Yea it would of been nice to have 42mbps speeds but honestly if i cant get the service where i need it theeeeeen 42mbps is kinda useless to me. Verizon is good but very expensive. If the AT&T thing does go through they say right now u can still keep ur plan…yea im supposed to trust that when its not in official writing? Sprint does a few things weird and different then tmobile but check out ur service with sprint first, make sure its good bc u dont wana leave tmobile unless u have too. Its dangerous out there lol :P

      • Anonymous

With AT&T deal… if it goes through… it would be the same when
AT&T Blue and Orange merged together… Blue customer (I was one of
them lol) were able to KEEP their plan but was not able to utilized the
whole network (only can be on the blue network) oppose to orange
customer (who pays a higher rate plan) can both go on blue and orange
network. That would be the same with this deal. you can keep the plan
but you’ll still stuck with t-mobile network, while AT&T customer
        can go both networks.

        • Mastrorj

oh wow, seriously though thats some interesting info i never knew that. N see retention tells me that instead of what ur saying that ill have access to the whole network. WHo do i believe?? lol ya got me, but thats some interesting stuff u just said and i think if more people knew that they might want out? i never even thought about them doing that.

        • Anonymous

That’s what had happened in the past, but I don’t know what will happen when this deal with go through. You might be able to utilized both blue & megenta network, but if you think about it… if you still on the t-mobile plan and paying less… of course you’re going get what you paid for. In my opinion, if this deal goes through, it’s better off being on an AT&T plan because you will benefit more eventho you pay abit more (by that time, coverage & service might be slightly better). but that’s just my opinion. Who do you want to believe?… no one… time will tell.

You just gotta remember that AT&T is planning on shutting down AWS to use with their LTE. that means even worse service. Some people on here THINKS renewing their contract to be stuck with their plan for 2 more year might be a good idea, but some have flew off to other providers.

    • My Name Is…

you should probably go to a TMo Corporate Retail Store and let them help you. Yes, customer service has taken a turn for the worse. It is sad, but true. However, TMo still has better service then Sprint and much cheaper plans than Verizon and AT&T. You need to change up your plan ASAP.
Don’t let one or two experiences with the company effect your decision. If I did that I would be a homebody and never go anywhere. In today’s world it is nearly impossible to consistently go somewhere or talk to someone from a major company without having a (what I like to call) “dummy” experience.

I cannot believe the Nexus Prime is going to be a Verizon exclusive. This is bigger than not getting the iPhone 4S imo. Look at this way – it’s going to take many months for ice cream sandwich to come to the galaxy s2. T-mobile doesn’t care about updating android on their phones.

    • Anonymous

I think the nexus line rarely helped t-mobile since it was not available at t-mobile store (or was it?) and the regular consumer don’t know much about it? Only us Tech nerds know about it and where to get it and all.

      • Littlesis1774

No it never was at T-Mobile stores

        • Jazzmanmonty

nexus prime seems to be one sexy beast..BUT! and there’s always a but lol.. from the leaked specs on it, its dual core 1 ghz processor and other features are obsolete vs these 1.5 ghz beasts.  they always do some things right and f up the others. nexus prime has great screen, great looks, ice cream sandwich (supposedly) and the rest is subpar as far as innovation…like the new iphone lol.  well we’ll see next week if the rumored specs hold water.  if they blow away the amaze 4g, i’ll wait for it..if not amaze here i come. don’t get me wrong, samsung phones are great ( i have the gs4g ) but i hate the interface and market ui’s suck vs sense.

        • http://rpad.tv RPadTV

You can’t judge processors solely based on clock speed. That’s not how it works.

        • J-Hop2o6

Update: A new batch of rumored specs have surfaced over on GSM Arena,
and these seem to be more in line with what we’d expect of a new Nexus.
According to an anonymous Google employee, that 4.65-inch Super AMOLED
HD display mentioned above is just about the only spec to make the final
cut. The processor, however, is more likely to be a dual-core 1.5GHz
Exynos (that’s right) with an accompanying dual-core PowerVR SGX543MP2
graphics chip. That rear facing camera? Try 8 megapixels with a newly
beefed up sensor. The handset should also ship with a girthy 2,050mAh
battery fully capable of juicing this apparent LTE / CDMA / GSM Android
          monster.

So I’ve never had a smartphone but in about 10 months I get to upgrade… which one should I get from T-Mobile? I’ve never had Android, been using a Nokia E73 Mode and all I do is text, no data plan yet. I guess it’s between the HTC Amaze and GSII. Any thoughts?

      Nexus Prime

      • Littlesis1774

It not coming to T-mobile only to Verizon wireless. None of Nexus phones were ever sold at the T-mobile stores.

10 months,  I wouldn’t bother even looking until a few months out as fast as phones become obsolete.

    • sidekicker89

Thanks for the advice! :) I guess i’ll just wait… but not gonna lie I’m tempted to upgrade now. What would you say is easier to use? Samsung’s Andriods or HTC’s?

Can a TmobileUSA store rep with current stock of the new mobile, confirm whether WiFi Calling app is installed or not?

    • LC

It is, you just have to me sure to use the SIM card that comes in the box to be able to utilize that function.

      • Dean W

SIM card doesn’t matter, where you get your info buddy?

        • Anonymous

Hes right…you have to use the sim provided with the phone in order for wifi calling to work properly…..these special sim cards will also be able to benefit from some sort of planned update

        • Ruiz

No, they’re regular 89012604 sim cards. My manager tried to tell me the same thing because it’s what he was told through emails. But, they’re just regular cards, the same ones that came in the older phones.

        • LC

They wouldn’t have put it on all gge training info if they didn’t have some reason for it.

        • Jerruiz02

They also said it has dual CPUs in one of the emails I received, is that true, too?

In the case of these two phones, it does. I work for TMO as well, and was instructed to replace customers sims card with the ones that come with these phones.

      • Cyclone

        lol you are so stupid

      • LC

Seriously? I work at T-Mobile so I’m pretty sure I know what I’m talking about. It’s the same way with the Amaze. So yes, in these two particular cases it does.

And any T-Mobile Rep who sells you this phone who knows anything will be changing out your SIM card.

I sold my crappy sensation for this and I cannot wait!!!! Thanks to the xda developers to make my sensation experience better than the stock but I definitely won’t miss that phone!

    • Oce

The only difference between the Sensation and the GSII is the samoled display and touchwiz!

      • Seanmmvi

and the modem in the phone, and the screen size, and the processor, and the speed of the processor, and the size and weight of the phone, and the battery life.

i am a Sales Rep. at a T-Mobile phone and i ran speedtest and quadrant on the new samsung, i got 11mb down, 1.9mb up, and a quadrant score of 31xx, the SGSII is better in EVERY way…

No it’s not the only difference. Samsung added hardware acceleration to touchwiz so everything is running smooth unlike sense 3.0. Plus you get 16 gig of storage instead of 1 gig on the sensation. I like HTC but they messed up the sensation.

  • daryl

Does the S2 have a notification light?

    • Raul

      No

  • Oce

Played with the ATT GSII and it is insanely fast and smooth.  Not very keen on the 4.52 inch display or the Qualcomm processor on the Tmo version.  Another major concern for the Tmo version is the timeliness of updates seeing it has different internals.  I’ll wait until I’ve played with the Tmo version before I make my decision but as it stands the Tmo version already has two strikes against it for me. Not dropping any of my Tmo lines but probably will be picking up a GSII on ATT very soon.

    • Sharper77

I was thinking about doing the same, but if you pop in a t-mobile sim card in there, you wouldn’t get 3g right?? If you would, then HELL YES i would get the ATT version, but i think u can only get 2g which is a bummer
