Need A Reason To Watch Tonights Samsung, Google Event? Check Out The Newest Galaxy Nexus Leaked Specs

Nothing says good morning like the latest round of specs for the hottest Android phone on the planet. We’re waking up to the internet buzzing about a Japanese NTT Docomo leaked widely believed to have the most concrete list of specs for the Galaxy Nexus we’ve seen yet. On top of spec leak, Japan Docomo “announced” they will be carrying the newest Nexus device beginning November 20th. So how good is this list of specs? What do you say about a 4.7″ display at 1280×720, Ice Cream Sandwich, 32GB ROM, 1GB of RAM, NFC, 1750mAh battery and a dual-core TI OMAP 4460 processor?

Of course right now there are no concrete signs pointing to a T-Mobile supported launch save for the FCC passing the Nexus variant with AWS bands. Still, it’s very possible that T-Mobile fans could be in for a letdown if you’ve been holding out for a Galaxy Nexus/Nexus Prime arrival on T-Mobile as rumors still pinpoint to a Verizon exclusive. Given the past appearances of the Nexus line on T-Mobile combined with the FCC passage however, we’re holding on to at least a small bit of hope that T-Mobile might gain the device in some capacity and hope to hear all about that later today.

Why a 5MP main camera? Sounds like I should just root the SGII to run Stock ICS.

    • Anonymous

This is exactly why I just bout the GSII.  Hardware-wise they are pretty identical “save for” the HD screen.  If I want stock ICS then I’ll just hack it onto my phone.

It seems like its going to be pricey if it comes to u.s. shores unlocked. Also I think the reason they went to Hong Kong to reveal it because tmo didn’t want it, just like everything else they don’t seem interested in competing anymore

T-mobile Galaxy S II have better specs and powerful  than the new nexus prime.  :(

Likewise, benchmarks are sometimes not the answer, look at the g2x. The g2x is the snappiest phones in the market. It is February 2010 and is faster than the gsII tmobile.

I’ve asked before and I still haven’t seen a single piece of hard evidence that this is any kind of Verizon exclusive. The only absolute truth that we have is that it has cleared FCC with T-mobile bands.

  • pinto

whats the difference between this processor and the qualcomm one in the sgs 2 tmobile? otherwise as it stands, the tmobile sgs 2 variant looks better on paper thus far.

    • Anonymous

The Omap4460 is built on ARM Cortex-A9 which is newer tech than the Qualcomm’s ARM Cortex-A8.  They both run between 1.2 and 1.5 GHz and technically the OMAP should be above the Qualcomm chip but I haven’t came across any proof.

      • pinto

ive been doing some searching, and i cant find any info on the difference between the two. i guess we will have to see once its launched for real world differences

        • Anonymous

With ICS being a much better optimized OS, this thing will probably be the best running Android handset out.  I really can’t wait for a HW accelerated UI already.

    • Anonymous

Nexus has a better CPU and nothing is going to touch that screen resolution. I opted not to get a GS2 just because they kept that crappy 480×800 res. I refuse to spend my money on anything less than 540×960.

      • pinto

looks as if the size of the nexus is spot on with the hercules. about 5mm larger in length, but its not as wide, nor as thick.

I wonder how ICS has been optimized for qHD and HD resolutions because I personally don’t like how everything is smaller on the Sensation my fiance has.

Did the icons and stuff retain their size when the iPhone went to their Retina Display??

qHD on a 4″ or less screen would look way too small unless ICS makes adjustments.

      • Mastrorj

yea theres really nothing wrong with the screen res lol i own a sensation and a gs2, all u get is smaller and smoother text, doesnt effect movies or pics or anything else for that matter to the human eye.

        • Anonymous

I agree to a degree.  Smaller text and icons doesnt mean better at all but my human and my bionic eye can see pixelation on my GS2 screen very easily when compared to the Sensation.  HTC watch videos looked clearer as well compared to the GS2 BUT the GS2 still looks amazing overall.

        • Hugh Anderson

LOL Bionic Eye.  We can build him. Stronger. Better. Faster.

thats true too. I tried rock player, its not that great. Oh, lol why am i talking about this…had a brain fart. My vid files are like 95% DIVIX and they dont run that smooth on the sensation. You need rock player to play them and then u have to configure the settings. Kinda a pain in the ass. Run Awesome on galaxy phones though, Now, iim not gonna sit here and lie and say oh i wouldnt want better RES. on my galaxy 2. But check it out. The IDEAL feature would be to have the sensations res and then make the icons bigger, make the text bigger, or have the option of taking the RES. down a step to make things appear bigger, For my eyes the bigger text and icons(buttons) are easier to press, bigger surface area. U know what im sayin :P

        • Anonymous

          I hear you man lol

  • Anonymous

I too am content with my GSII.

And BTW folks, if you want the look and feel of ICS then there are plenty of Launchers and Themes on the Market that do a pretty good job already and ICS isn’t even out yet.  Once its out, you can believe that there will be some excellent theme’s and ROMs real quick to follow.

  • Vlaregbon

besides andriod 4.0 how is this phone better than the galaxy s2? someone said i should return my s2 and wait for the nexus???

    • Anonymous

Screen and 4.0 and thats it.  It might take a while but 4.0 will come to the s2 as well so now we’re just left with HD Screen > WVGA Screen.  I’m not even thinking about returning mine for this.

      • Anonymous

4.0 will probably release in a year, like the delayed update on the s1. Get a device for what it has today, not what is promised in the future

        • Anonymous

Hey the Vibrant got 2.2 (as promised) in 6 months.  With ICS being a major upgrade, I have a fear that it could take longer than 6 months but at the same time it all depends on if this update is much more dev friendly like its rumored to be.

But yeah get a device for today not tomorrow.

Yeah, I need this in my life; if T-Mobile doesn’t have this by the time my contract is up early next year, I’m probably going to switch carriers.  I’ve had every Nexus that released and been immensely pleased with all of them.  No point in deviating now =]

  • Anonymous

Now that I own a 4.5″ screen, I now know that I do not want to own a 4.65″ screen.

    • Aalon Dawson

Is it too much in the hand? I would imagine the overall with can be uncomfortable.

      • Anonymous

I’m only 5’5″ so I don’t have large hands.  I have to kind of adjust my hand in order to swipe down the notification bar now or I’ll find myself using my other hand more often(insert joke here) BUT the screen size is well worth the slight inconvenience.

To be more accurate, when I hold the phone resting on my pinky like you normally hold a phone and comfortably reach my thumb toward the middle-top of the screen, there’s about a quarter of an inch of screen left in between that I have to reach for.

        • Mastrorj

im 6’3” lol and i have the Galaxy2 from sprint.i think anything bigger then 4.52 might be overkill, but then again lets see how much of a stretch when its in ur hands.

        • Anonymous

If you was my size you would be like “3.7 is perfect” lol

        • Realcool2000

I’m 5 10, have G2 and use both hands or one hand to do WHATEVER I need to do with the phone.

The screen size is for viewing.

I’m sure you use both your hands for a tablet and I’m sure you can use one hand to make a call.

Anyone complaining that the phone is too big for their hands needs to shut the *%$# up and be a man…

        • Anonymous

          Real cool story.

        • Realcool2000

There’s 1/4 of an in of screen you have to reach for…you have to be kidding ….. so the phone is exactly 1/4 in too big for u or what….

Why did you even keep the phone then?

Just buy palm pixi bro …..but you’ll probably complain that its too small or something

Are your hands too small to drive a wrx? Or is it too fast, too short, the awd doesn’t let u drift? Don’t like that car don’t buy one, but don’t act like you have trouble driving it cause your hands are TOO SMALL.

        • Realcool2000

Is there anything else you complain about not being able to do cause your hands r small? Or just phone operation?

I bet Gary Coleman has the 7in screen Dell phone that came out way back, uses it with one hand and has his other arm around his lady, and never never never compains about his SMALL HANDS keeping him from doing anything!

          You are such a loser!

When did I complain?  You’re acting like I’m doing all sorts of bit**ing and moaning about the phone size when I’m nothing but happy about it.

But yeah you were real cool back in 2000.  Today, not so much and its pretty evident by your 3 ranting a$$ posts.

    • Buttons baby, Buttons!!!

You’re forgetting that this phone doesn’t have capacitive button. If you look at the picture, you’ll see that the buttons are on the screen like how Honeycomb is on tablets. The extra screen space is for the buttons

      • Anonymous

But you’ve overlooked the fact that the Nexus still has bezel on the bottom.  So much bezel that you could probably fit 4 capacitive buttons down there.  And don’t forget that the phone is actually about 6mm taller than the GSII.

Unlike the G S2, the Prime is HD, meaning that the screen ratio is 16:9 therefore the screen size is slimmer than the G S2. Same as the Sensation, it is more svelte than other 4.3″ devices.. As I said before, the G2S is already obsolete!

i dont know if i believe these specs.  These specs leaked a lot earlier, and then better specs leaked.  I have a feeling that the better specs are the ones that will be in the phone.  I may be wrong, but why would they release a phone with only a 5 mp camera?  Doesnt make any sense.

It’s the sensor that matters, not the pixels. It’s been the same argument for years

    • Guest

I am with Steve, CMOS is a step in the right direction.  I am sure this sensor is meant to be a step up from the one found in the galaxy models, even if it is a lower pixel count.

Weather is a worthy step up tho … is yet to be determined.

I am thinking if the Nexus isn’t coming to T-mobile by x-mas, I am doing with the GSII

Forget the phone for a minute, I’m really looking forward to learning more about ICS.  I really hope that it’s a big step forward in terms of OS capabilities.  It would be underwhelming to learn that 4.0 is little more than a marriage between 2.3 and 3.1

        SCH-I515 , that’s the Verizon model.

        Nexus S for T-Mobile was GT-i9020T, AT&T was GT-i9020A. So GT-i9250T is most likely T-Mobile.

Common sense in a post is it the end of the world?

    • VisualFX

T-Mobile will NOT get anything. T-Mobile has never supported the Nexus line. Instead they always advertise and support their MyTouch lines and only that really. Why would Google give T-Mobile another Nexus for it to shoot down the crapper? Also, Google is reluctant too because T-Mobile is more than likely going to be no more.

Tmobile was the first to support Android. They also had the Nexus One and Nexus S first. Tmobile is the only carrier without the iPhone so I think google would be stupid to not take advantage of that. The Nexus Prime is a direct competitor to the iPhone 4S so it only makes sense for google to want it on all carriers simply to use it as a perk over the iPhone.

      • Anonymous

T-mobile has supported the nexus line through the network always been at best buy or online with/without a contract. I bought my Nexus S subsidized with a T-MOBILE contract through best buy bought it on the 17 of last december happiest day of my life. T-mobile is the true android carrier and we have carried almost every pure android device because verizon at&T and Sprint like to add their own tastes to the mix.

Who says you can’t just go out and buy this phone? That’s what I don’t understand about the wireless customer in America, if the carriers don’t subsidize the phone, no one will buy it… I’ve brought my N900 onto the network and bought a Sensation 4G off CL with the money I saved for not getting a new contract

      • James Devenberg

here in America most carriers don’t give you a lower monthly bill for not being on contract.  The price is the same whether you buy a subsidized phone from them and sign a contract or buy your own phone off contract.  T-Mobile does actually offer lower rates to off contract customers, but Americans are so used to subsidized phones at this point that the idea of dropping $500-$600 on a phone is crazy to most of them.  I am not one of those, I paid for my HD7 outright.

Hmm, true, but most people can take that subsidized phone, sell it and purchase a newer one off Craigslist/Ebay for ~40% off MSRP… I think people are just lazy, but that’s just my take on it. I mean with my grandfathered $10 unlimited data + $5 for unlimited text… I save enough to buy a new phone every year… In any case, nice choice! WP7 is looking really promising! More competition is better :). MetroUI is quite refreshing :)

If it’s compatible with T-Mobile’s spectrum, I most definitely will! This plus a Value plan = awesomeness.

I’m thinking the same, but I’m sure T-mo’s low prices will retain me.

Verizon might be the only one to subsidize it but hopefully we can still but the unlocked gsm model.

I don’t get why Verizon’s executives and PR team would want to do two presentations on the same day at opposite ends of the planet.  The Galaxy Nexus Verizon exclusive rumor is highly suspect at this point.   The source of that rumor may have confused the Gal Nex with the new android-powered Motorola RAZR.

Its not a Verizon event in Hong Kong.  Its a Samsung + Google announcement.

      • Vim

Yes, but don’t you think Verizon would be there too if it were going to be a Verizon exclusive?  It doesn’t make sense for them to pay for an exclusive and then not show up for its unveiling.

        • Bratty

The event is in HK. Verizon does not sell there.

i was just going to comment about why the heck would google/samsung announce a verizon exclusive in hong kong for? no one in hong kong would care. let’s hope that is a good sign towards a tmo version :)

        • Vim

          Exactly.

        • Vim

          Exactly.

        • Gnome

Its a Google and Samsung announcement. The phone is gonna be available worldwide but in the US it maybe a Verizon exclusive.

        • Vim

And maybe it won’t be.  It’s not like every tech rumor turns out to be true… Verizon doesn’t do marketing in half measures the way T-Mobile does.  If Verizon paid for an exclusive that is about to get released, they would certainly be there tonight to make the most of it regardless of the fact that they aren’t one of the event’s two sponsors. We’ll find out in a few hours.

You are attaching significance that the event is in Hong Kong. There is none.

Remember that this announcement was originally scheduled  and billed as the “Samsung Mobile Unpacked 2011 ‘Google Episode’” at CTIA in San Diego.

The event was postponed because Jobs had just died and as Google said, “it would be inappropriate to have this event while the world gives tribute to Steve Jobs.”

So…the best place for Verizon to announce an exclusive deal (if there is one) for the US market is HK? Ok. Let’s find out.

OIC.  I guess we just have to keep an eye out for VZW suits in Hong Kong tonight.  I wouldn’t put it passed them to fly out for tonight’s event as well.  Thank God all this speculation will be over with in just about 9 hours.

Next up, speculation as to which devices will actually updated.

this would mark the first shunning of TMO from Google if it doesn’t appear .. which would be both sad and telling at the same time.  if Google, the people you helped usher in to the mobile world, is no longer supporting you then … yeah .. the writing is quick thick on that wall.
