T-Mobile Reveals Additional Details For Galaxy S II

The Galaxy S II hasn’t been secret since the official announcement came a few weeks back at the Samsung press event that took place in New York. However, T-Mobile is announcing additional details of the GSII today including the two most important facts of all…price and availability. First, let’s start with absolutely positive official confirmation about the processor inside the Galaxy S II hardware. A Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 processor with 1.5GHz dual-core cpu running on Android 2.3.5 and is NFC enabled.

The Galaxy S II is a true mobile entertainment powerhouse with a 4.52″ Super AMOLED screen, the largest available on any T-Mobile device. With DLNA compatibility and HDMI out, the GSII is more than capable of powering content on a compatible HD TV. You can also access movies and tv shows galore through Netflix, T-Mobile TV in Mobile HD, Samsung Media Hub and YouTube all using the phone’s beautiful 4.52″ screen. Let’s not forget that the Galaxy S II is powered by T-Mobile’s HSPA+ 42Mbps 4G network.

Let’s get back to the most important pieces of information, pricing and availability. You can score your very own Galaxy S II through an exclusive online pre-sale beginning on October 10th with in store availability on October 12th. The Galaxy S II will cost $229.99 after a $50 mail-in-rebate with a two year service agreement and qualifying Classic voice and data plan.

the Galaxy S II seems to beat the amaze IMO.  I like HTC a lot, but HDMI out and NFC puts the Galaxy S II ahead.

The Amaze has NFC and Q-HD…Not to mention Samsung just announced their Galaxy S-II HD.  IMO This phone died on its way to the T-mo stores.

      • Anonymous

You are right sir, i guess i need to read the whole article.  Well looks like the amaze might be my next phone, even though i love my mytouch4g.

Good choice Muhahahaha >:) Just kidding. The benefit here is they should be out at around the same time so you will be able to play with both.

The Herc is also nerfed/gimped compared to other GSIIs without Exynos.

  • wherestheiphone

NFC? Nice.  How will this compare to the iphone 5 though?

    • Anonymous

its going to be the same thing just without iOS 5.  If you want a iphone so bad then buy it and unlock it.

I think the better question is who gives a @#$%? The iTurd isn’t the industry standard that all other phones have to live up to, it’s just an overhyped, underpowered hipster toy.

October 12th? that’s my birthday is this fate? am I to buy this over nexus prime on contract? or buy off contract?

  • Anonymous

    much better

  • Fly4fun

I thought it comes with Super AMOLED+. Will it have Google Wallet?

    • Aaron Tant

I would doubt that it would carry Google Wallet.  T-Mobile/AT&T/Verizon are working together for ISIS and Sprint is working with Google Wallet.  Would like to see an open format, but it does not appear to be that way, at least for the time being.

    • Frankvallynot

Tmo’s gsII has NFC support so of course Google wallet should be working on it

  • Whatthehell

When other carriers are selling theirs for $199.99 T-Mobile is dumb for going over that.  $279.99 is a rip off in exchange for a 24 month contract.  So what if it’s a little better or worse pricing is crucial.  The new iPhone will likely debut at $199.99

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/James-Matthews/100000189923615 James Matthews

They did the same thing with the new BB Bold 9900.  So no surprise to me.

LOL @ the Vibrant getting GB.  Sadly I think so much better stuff has came out in within the last 14 months that the Vibrant is just a forgotten thing of the past.

  • Luke88

$279.99 upfront is way too much for a phone on a contract.  They would probably catch a lot more potential iPhone 5 buyers with the $199 price range.

Of course people who bought the Sensation are screwed over and can’t get this phone.  ):

    • carlos sandoval

I consider myself one of the lucky ones. I bought the HTC Sensation, realized the battery life was lousy and returned the phone. Also cosidered getting the HTC Slide 4G, but read in many posts that it had the same problem. I won’t be buying HTC again, that’s for sure.

    • Anonymous

Like hell they can’t! I sold my Sensation last night & I now have $500 cash sitting in my lockbox, just waiting for this phone to come out :]

let’s wait for the upgraded GALAXYS2 LTE or the HD version coming in 2012 in  US and probably late 2011 in asia and europe

    • OKDave

Sorry, not waiting another year to go through all this crap again. Cuz you know what will happen? “Oh, no, you CAN’T get the new whiz-bang phone NOW, there’s an UPGRADED ultra SEXY phone coming out in six more months and will make you wish you’d waited.”

I’m done with that asinine game.

  • Anonymous

does any one have a clue as to how much the Herc’s gonna cost without a contract?

    • Ryan Dawald

^ ditto on that, anyone know?

  • Anonymous

I’ve been waiting for this but because of the reasons below I’ll just wait a bit more for the new Nexus.

    1. as confirmed by Google chairman, Ice Cream Sandwich will be out in Oct/Nov. Every new OS brings a new Nexus, and this time it will have a HD screen.
    2. Samsung already announced the latest variant of Galaxy S II in Korea, which carries a HD screen.
    3. LG also announced their next high-end phone and it also has a HD screen. So obviously all new upcoming high-end phones will have a HD screen. This is a very important feature that will make all current phones obsolete. Anyone who has used an iPhone 4 knows how important it’s to have a high resolution screen, especially when the screen these days are all 4.2+.
    4. T-Mobile released Galaxy S 4G shortly after Vibrant, so this time they may do the same and release Galaxy S II HD soon after this Galaxy S II.

    5. We all know how quickly Samsung releases new OS in the US. Getting a Samsung Gingerbread phone right before the release of ICS means we’ll be using an old OS for a long time while other new high-end phone users are using the latest OS.

    • Anonymous

If you care about tech specs then its just stupid to buy a phone right before HD screens and ICS.

I ESPECIALLY agree with your number 4 there.  It’s inevitable for an HD ICS version of this phone to come our way via Nexus or SGSII HD.

      • Frigadroid

        Ditto #s 4 & 5 for me!
Waiting on updates from samsung is like waiting on santa clause. He makes you wait all year and then when he finally delivers you feel disappointed with what he brought :-(

    • OKDave

I enjoy tech specs as much as the next, but if you believe your eyes can distinguish between pixel sizes @720p:disqus  on a 4.5″ screen,  you’re kidding yourself. But to each his own.

  • Vlad

What if you I already have a value plan and would like to just purchase phone like before, full price on installment plan. How much will it be? I know it will be 20 payment $15 each, that’s $300, so how much extra up front?

    • M7

      Try $20 x 24 months + $258 (minus MIR) up front =  $738.00 vs $530 MSRP

      • Doug Banks

Value eip will never exceed $15 x 20 mos. The diff will be the downpayment.

    • fsured

The installment plan to pay for hardware might only have been for the sale.  When I first got my G1 and upgraded to the MT4G they had an installment plan that would let you pay the phone off in about 3 months.  I’ve asked if they still offered that about a month and half ago and was told they did away with all installment payment options for phones.

It maybe they brought it back for the promotion this past weekend only.  That is something you will have to call and ask they will continue to offer that for all plans or just value plans.  It’s a great option for people on a budget but the company takes the risk of eating the cost if the customer defaults on the contract.

      • OKDave

Value plans ALWAYS have the option of financing a phone via a max payment of $15/mo for 20 months ($300), with the difference between that and the price as the down payment. For example, if the full price is $499, financed for 20 months leaves $199 down.

I think I’m just going to buy it outright and forget it, unless someone gives me an insurmountable reason to get the Amaze or the Nexus Prime, but I’m NOT going another three months with my current idiot phone. Good grief, a year-old Vibrant makes looks like a Maserati compared to my gasping, wheezing MyTouch 3G

  • JL

Like Vlad said, I’m wondering what the full price of the phone will be for those of us on the value plan.

  • Luke88

Full price will probably be $599 or if they’re really stuck up, $649 ):  Fingers crossed for at least $499.

The only fail with this phone is having a 4.5 inch screen and no qHD resolution. I’m sure it will still look good, but with a screen that size it really should have the higher resolution as well.

Wow much sooner than I thought!

Plenty of time to let it marinade before I make my final decision next month.

        • phoenix

Ugh, I hope so…thanks! I will def be on the lookout…

  • Vlad

If some one wants to wait for HD, then it will only be in US maybe in 1 yr.

Plus HD with be Super Amoled screen, not Super Amoled PLUS, which if you read reviews or check out videos on YouTube is much better, both in contrast and in direct sunlight
I don;t think that having extra resolution on 4.5″ screen is really an advantage over having Plus screen.

    • Anonymous

Having spend some time with my friends’ EVO 3D, I can say that having everything a little smaller and fitting more on the screen made it much better to navigate through menus and web pages.

Not speaking of picture quality here but its like when you raise the resolution on your laptop or LCD screen.  You just get much more on the screen.

Do me a favor and point me in the direction of a SAMOLED HD vs. SAMOLED Plus.

      • J-Hop2o6

SAMOLED HD is just the old SAMOLED screen with a bumped up resolution.. he’s talking about SAMOLED vs. SAMOLED+ .. he wants SAMOLED+ HD.

    • Anonymous

That’s certainly good news. Still hoping that doesn’t go through but if it does at least I won’t have to buy a new phone.

      • Flashy4bb

i just hope it deasn’t go through. i liked the way the CMO or th PR said it today. If the merger doesn’t go through, t mobile has and will continue to have a good line of products that are up to the tasks. also t mobile will remain competitive on the rate plans. but he hopes it goes through since this will according to him benefit the customers.lol not me. i know how att sucks. As fare as the iphone goes, it is up to apple. t mobile has some products that in some cases are better than the iphone anyways. but i won’t mind having it. whenever apple makes up its mind, magenta will carry the device. so let’s hope for next year.

OKAY SO HOW MUCH IS IT FULL PRICE WITH OUT CONTRACT?

I have just read in the HTC Amaze post that the SGS2 will MSRP for $530.00.

      • Anonymous

        wasn’t the Nexus S $529?

        • Flashy4bb

yep, so for 530 on the s2, it is worthy. the only problem though, the nexus one keeps on getting the latest updates as of samsung, the s4G is still waiting for gingerbread update. so i wonder how long it will take to get android 2.4/4.0 when it comes out.just to say, i have received 2.3.6 on my nexus one on 09/25 ( yesterday )

        • M7

I think waiting one more month for Nexus Prime will be well worth.  SGS2 is coming out a bit too late.

Which none of it matter because T-Mobile will cap you at 2-5GB and slow you down….at that point you won’t even be able to look at a standard website….

    • Tbyrne

Most people I know who are downloading tons of music and videos are doin it on their home connection. Seriously, if you’re going to use up 5GB of data on your phone, consider being close to a wifi signal as much as you can. Other than that, this is an issue that’s not just related to T-Mobile. Right?

      • Gabe41521

I agree! And if you are so upset about throttle get ten gig plan or go to Verizon and get charged overage I swear you give someone an inch they take a mile

everyone but sprint who have true (unthrottled) unlimited 4g data. interestingly, i think they put a limit on your 3g data on the unlimited 4g plan.

I am surprised the article didn’t comment on the 16gig internal memory plus a microSD slot with room for an additional 32 gigs.  The tiny amount of internal memory was the biggest problem with the SGS 4G.

I’t won’t be ‘around the corner’ unfortunately Verizon is poised to get the Prime first in Nov. with other carriers getting it after their exclusitivity runs out, kind of how T-Mo got the original Nexus’ first…The Prime won’t be out for at LEAST 2-3 months on T-Mo and even then, who knows since they are so slow releasing phones recently

        • OKDave

And the NEXT super duper phone is only TWO MONTHS after that, then the EXTRA SUPER DUPER phone with GEE WHIZ buttons is only FOUR months after that, but you have to wait for the SCREAMIN’ EXTRA SUPER DUPER phone with SUPER GEE WHIZ buttons in only SIX months….

Tech doesn’t progress evenly over time but some of you are just not understanding that. The Evo and even the HD2 remain competitive after so long while other phones that came out at the same time totally lost their value. HD2 came out before the mytouch 3G, guess which phone is dead and which is still going strong.
