Did T-Mobile CMO Confirm No iPhone 5 For Magenta This Year?

Update: As a number of you are pointing out, we could read a lot into the “this year” portion of the statement. Does that mean an iPhone 4/4S is coming to T-Mobile this year or is a deal in place for T-Mobile to launch an iPhone in 2012? There is a lot of ways to interpret his statement but one thing seems certain, no iPhone 5 for T-Mobile anytime before midnight on December 31st.

A little bit of disappointing news this morning as we just received the above image which shows in no uncertain terms the words of T-Mobile Chief Marketing Officer Cole Brodman. Speaking at a town hall meeting for T-Mobile employees Brodman seemed to confirm that T-Mobile will not carry the iPhone 5 this year.

“We are not going to get the iPhone 5 this year.”

While there is always a hope and a prayer this is just misdirection for those of you with high hopes that this might finally be the year for an iPhone arrival we’re certainly a little disappointed by this single sentence. With an Apple announcement expected in the new few weeks we’ll know for certain then if we aren’t being misdirected here or just very disappointed.

So I’m taking it that T-Mobile is just going to ignore the fact that they have over a million iPhoners on the their network, that there is an very high demand for this phone on there network…. But I guess continuing to promote those Android phones that’s been in stock for months that no one is really buying is a good thing…… Oh wait thats why DT is trying to sell off the USA branch….. Great Job TMO… Making your customers very proud!!!

    • Tony in Miami

Well I am tired of this company, that as you said has over one million unlocked iphone on their network, they could care less, if the i phone comes or not, all they want is that stinking money from at&t. Well Sprint or Verizon Here I come. Forget T Mobile, They have proven to me that they could give a damn, but, they are sticking android every chance they can get…….

      • stoneyjonez

You are an idiot, clearly. You really think T-mobile doesn’t want to carry the iPhone? They have wanted to carry it for years, it’s because of Apple that they can’t.

        • Bratty

          1. No need to call anyone names.
          2. You are incorrect that the decision is Apple’s. Look up history on the iPhone before calling someone an idiot. Not polite.

As for Apple – you are correct Apple- from what is known, is for very careful / strict with their contractual demands, but who knows they might become more lenient with all the competition from  ANDROID    producers.
One thing Tmo has done is not provide its customers with product release dates and specs”   When its NO secret they are releasing a new device with NO HONEST SPECS, “its almost like they want customers to leave …”
I’m not selling Sprint, but, They stated what the device was and what the SPECS WHERE  and launched it !
Its what very few companies don’t do  anymore -> that is TALK STRAIGHT and TRUTHFUL … even if their product is crap or superior.

        • Tbyrne

It’s not so much he’s an idiot, It’s that he doesn’t get what T-Mobile’s always been about. Offering the lowest priced plans in the industry. If that remains to be, we’ll have to wait and see.

  • AppleSauce

You’re forgetting that if the iPhone works on AT&T, it will work on T-Mobile one way or another… even if people want to end up using a 5th generation device on a 2.5G network.

SPinning spinning spinning around the bowl if ineptitude and irrelevance. T-Mo never has been one to go for the must have phone, and ever since the sidekick lost it’s appeal and it’s outage issues a few years ago the first of it’s kind phone, G1 for android, have been very dull.  Compared to say a droid. But again it really all goes to marketing and tmo does not do marketing in the US. Never has and now it never will……

  • Wirelessguru81

Deutsche Telekom Wants out of cell phone business completly….. They could care less if T-mobile USa gets the Iphone. All they want is to sell there comapny and be done with it. There will be no investments of the Iphone of any kind until T-mobile USA is purchased. Sprint Blows but if they get the Iphone I am so done with T-mobile. They dont care about the customers like they use to . I am been with them since Voice stream days. And now they just decide to change billing dates without notice. Lame

“This year” is the part of the sentence that is the key. Tmo won’t have any iPhones in 2011. Expect it next year 100%.

Wait is over T-Mobile, been waiting all these years buying unlocked iphones with the hope you would step up to the plate and offer us this phone. Well not anymore, going to Verizon the second they start offerring the next iphone. done dealind with EDGE just because I love the phone.

    • Tbyrne

Go ahead. We’ll stay here and defend our beloved T-Mobile. Such love over an overated phone? To each his own!

      • Littlesis1774

You guys do realize that if customers do leave T-Mobile then 4g spectrum is trouble right? If alot of customers leave T-mobile then your beloved T-Mobile is in trouble. Only thing Sprint or Verizon will have to do is lower prices and stop overcharges.  Sprint and Verizon are both smart companies they know that the T-mobile customers want the iphone and they both have it. Sprint will lure the T-mobile customers away with promises of unlimited data, text, voice and minutes and the iphone. Sprint is smart and that why they have the iphone.

      • Tbyrne wishes he had an iPhone

Apple is the main cause of no iPhone on T-Mobile as THEY have not made an iPhone compatible with T-Mobile’s 1700 MHz 3G/4G network. So why lame T-Mobile, they do not make the devices, they just sell them.

  • Aleale

Can’t wait for all the fools leaving tmobile just because of the iphone. Go for it, more 4g spectrum for me instead of slow data like AT&T since so many people are on it. I am bummed that iphone5 isnt coming to tmobile (was thinking of leaving my g2 for it) but theres nothing we can do about it. Life moves on.

    • Anonymous

      Or just buy an iPhone.

    • Littlesis1774

You don’t get it do you? If T-Mobile is losing customers then it is because of the iphone.  T-mobile already stated many of times that lack of the iphone is hurting them and over million customers are iphone users on edge. T-mobile is down the drain if Sprint gets it.  Sprint right now is happy as I don’t know what because they know that T-mobile is going switch.

Well now I am just counting down the days until my contract expires. T-mobile is going to have do massive PR now in order to save their all hands day.  Hey Sprint or Verizon you got a new customer once my contract expires

    • Anonymous

      Same here.

I’m really tired of my phone (MyTouch 4g) being a brick at work because I cant put a proxy in to use the wireless service and the cell signal is all but non-existant.

I’ve been with TMo since it was Omnipoint in 1996, but when my contract expires, I’ll be switching most likely to Verizon and getting an iPhone. Yes, it will cost more, but not all that much with the employer discount I get, and it will be worth it for a much better cell signal, and as far as I’m concerned, handset.

      • Just saying….

download Google’s Gesture Search app, and use it to search on “Proxy” – it will find the Proxy settings for you.

I don’t think if T-Mobile were getting any iPhone this year they would be letting such statements out. Rather, I think they would be leaking hints that they will be getting it, like those that have been surfacing about/from Sprint, to slow the flow of customers who are abandoning them. This is disappointing. I have no problem with T-Mobile and was really hoping for them to get the iPhone so I don’t have to go through the hassle and expense of switching carriers, but I just can’t hang onto these little hopes any longer.

Tmo was slated to get the iPhone when it launches next month..i can only see one reason why that might not happen by the end of the year. Fingers pointed at those who are trying to downgrade the image of Tmo as a legitimate competitor, making it seem as if Tmo will not be a viable carrier on its own so as to justify the buy out. Cuz in my view if the iPhone 5 comes to Tmo this October there will be an influx of customers from other carriers who want the device and may even draw a huge slice from Att. I see a scenario where attempts were made to delay the arrival of the device until the buy out talks are concluded. My crytal ball tells me… NO DEAL…so u might as well let the iPhone 5 make a home on Magenta for those who desire it. I just want my sweet tooth tickled by some ICS tasty treat..served over some shiny new NEXUS on Magenta.

    • Frank

So what exactly is good about T-Mobile not getting the iPhone?

Are you happy that more people will be leaving T-Mobile, putting it in an even more precarious position financially?

Does it make your phone work better?  It’s fine if you don’t like the iPhone. It’s not for everyone, and believe it or not, Apple doesn’t care if you don’t like it.

If things keep going the way they appear to be headed and T-Mo eventually goes bye-bye, I’ll be willing to bet you’ll be here bitching about losing your carrier, and not cheering “At least we never got that iPhone!”

Im leaving (well still thinking about it) Tmo because of horrible data speeds in my area of work and home not for a phone. Im waiting for the Nexus Prime/3 or whatever the hell its going to be and if it lands on Verizon only oh well ill just get the next Xperia SE releases

  • SadFan

T-Mobile disappointed a lot of their loyal subs today.  Such a shame.

I don’t care if a WP7 or Android enthusiast hate the iPhone.  People obviously want choices but it’s becoming clear if you want that phone you have to change carriers or wait till AT&T becomes our new big momma.

I love the iPhone but using it on EDGE sucks IMHO.

    • Littlesis1774

I am leaving once my contract is up. I been looking at verizon wireless or Sprint. If T-mobile goes belly up then they got no one to blame but then themselves

Fact is how could tmobile possibly acquire and release the iphone 5 at the same price as ATT and VZN when you have talk and data plans that are $30 to $50 per month cheaper at TMO.  Cant happen,
You ALWAYS get what you pay for.   My unscientific polling of friends and family(90% do not have TMO) always have better call and data coverage than me.  This is in the NY metro, New Jersey and Pennsylvania area… If TMO really had the data and talk coverage capabilities of a VZN or ATT all over the USA, and got the IP5, people would leave those big companies in droves…ATT, VZN, Sprint wont let it happen.
The free market wont let it happen either…

    Epic failure on TMO/DT’s part.

I’m sure management knew there was a possibility the att deal might not go thru, and if their execs didn’t have the foresight to plan ahead and procure an iphone in this situation, this company deserves to burn to the ground.

If this news is true, they just put their company in an even worse situation for any possible future deals.

I’ve bled magenta for years, and now im done . the reason tmo is in this mess is the crappy management. Thats wont change until the merger or a buyout from another company.

I have been a T-Mobile customer since 2003, now I am done with them. No iPhone results in loss of customers. You would figure that if there is almost a million unlocked iPhones (info supplied from the internet) using T-Mobile service, it would be a no brainer to supply the demand and maybe the would pull themselfs out of last place. I guess good luck trying to keep in the race with the other 3 super giants.

    • W3m1975

HMMM 1 million vs 30+ million other devices….. Oh, and fyi also according to the internet the nokia ovi platform is the most sold/used os in the whole world and blackberry still is king of smart phones in number of users. The I phone is trivial in sales compared to those 2 platforms, they would be smarter to focus on more nokia’s and bb’s.

sharing on Monday, news about our latest and greatest product lineup.”

    What’s getting announced Monday? :o

samsung galaxy s2 most likely. Can’t believe there are people still optimistic in getting the iphone5 for tmo lol.

Unfortunately, people are sheep. Religion, Politics, and the iPhone all are easy examples of this. And the sheep will rebel and leave despite the fact that the iPhone is not that great. In other words, good-bye to my beloved T-Mobile.

Hold on my brother. There’s still hope. And as long as there’s hope, don’t give up yet. Let’s stand firm in our resolve to stay loyal to our beloved T-Mobile.

You can play all the word games you want. I’ve been a loyal T-Mobile user for eight years and have waited and waited for them to get the iPhone. I’m done. My loyalty means nothing to them. If they don’t get the iPhone 5 in October, I’m gone from T-Mobile and will join one of the other providers who work to satisfy their customers’ desires. If they do get the iPhone 5 in 2012, good luck. It’ll be with one less customer.

Then obviously you don’t know what loyalty means. You would leave a carrier for a phone? WOW, I am really LOL at that.

T-mobile does not want the consumers want.

That doesn’t seem too far fetched to be honest.  If you wanted a particular brand of TV, i.e. Sony or Samsung, because in YOUR mind, you thought it the best and Best Buy wasn’t able to carry it, you’d probably shop someplace else.  Doesn’t matter if Samsung or Sony were the best or not, that’s just the way it is.  If I had waited for a company to carry a particular brand for 5 years and they still didn’t get it, then my patience would probably wear thin.  I know this probably isn’t T-Mobile’s fault, but that’s beside the point.

Lol I agree! That’s not even in the phrase of being loyalty…..
