(Update: Video Removed) T-Mobile’s House Of Cell Phone Torture

Update: Apparently this one wasn’t supposed to be made public folks so T-Mobile has taken it down. No word on when or if it will reappear.

Have you ever wondered what kind of product testing a smartphone goes through before being released to the public? Have you ever wondered how they know a smartphone can survive a three foot drop without breaking a sweat? T-Mobile is attempting to answer those questions with a two minute video showing their exclusive “one-of-a-kind” Durability lab and how they go about testing product reliability. It’s an interesting watch to say the least, especially if you enjoy quirky computer screams.

      Or the Vibrant’s GPS?

We will never know the answer to that question.

Samsung GPS Restore (free app in the Market).  It clears the GPS cache which seems to be the issue with the long lock time on the Vibrant

It’s good to know that the original MyTouch 3G is durable.  I had one a couple of years ago and dropped it a few times.  I can confirm the validity of these tests.

What, the companies actually making the electronics don’t have testing labs?

Did the G2 pass through all these tests?  I figure the Z-Hinge wouldn’t survive through some tough bashing.

From initially reading the title, I thought this article was going to be about getting through to T-Mobile’s Customer Care department…then attempting to deal with their outsourced reps.

Who doesn’t outsource anymore? And what’s wrong outsourcing?

It’s never THAT bad. Many people exaggerate when they claim to deal with outsourced people. These companies rarely ever hire people with thick accents because they are dealing with English speaking customers. In the very rare occasion you get someone you can’t understand, you simply (and as politely as possible) ask to speak to someone else.

It really isn’t that rare. Almost everytime I need customer service for almost any company I check to see if they offer live chat on their website first cause the language barrier is already frustrating on its on and then throw in the problem you are calling about. I swear some companies have out of country call centers.

I have had several encounters over the past few days with tmobiile and every time I get someone who I cannot understand.  Upon asking to be transfered they keep telling me that they can help me and wont transfer.  I wind up hanging up and calling back only to get someone else in some other foreign country who I still cant understand.  Im tired of explaining my problem to people only to have them tell reapeat everthing I told them because they didnt understand anything I say either.  Tmobile has gone so far down the hill I dont think they will ever climb back up.

AT&T Used to hire people of Indian nationality, who had enormously thick accent. I, nor anyone I know, were able to understand them, and often asked if we can speak to someone in US.

What’s wrong outsorcing? You should ask your self that question, or maybe you should look around when your friend try to get a job and only mcdonald is the only choice at $7 at hour and not benefit

Not all outsourcing is overseas. You’d be surprised.

wish they woulda tested the mytouch slide a bit more as I have returned 5 of these phones already and the last one they charged me almost a hundred bucks for water damage.  the litmus paper in battery was still white, so what gives?  I was told not to use the phone in summer because sweat could penetrate the phone.  Gotta go with a new provider in the near future, this is just too much.

    • lightpost

I feel you buddy. I’m on my 5th slide as we speak and it isn’t looking good.
