Samsung Teases More Of The Galaxy S II Ahead Of American Launch

Samsung continues to tease their upcoming launch of the Galaxy S II in the United States for this upcoming Tuesday with another teaser video. Unfortunately their launch event has been pushed back from this Monday evening till Tuesday evening in light of Hurricane Irene. Helping to hold you over for an extra 24 hours is another teaser vid just released by Samsung USA showing off the unique aspects of the Galaxy S II email client. The GSII brings a desktop-like email setup to your mobile if you turn the phone into landscape mode giving you your messages on the left with the highlighted message on the right. Microsoft Outlook would be proud.

Don’t know if i am getting an android as my next phone..im disappointed with android. I currently own a  G2 and I havent received my OTA update from tmobile. No, I dont want to take it in the store to do that because I would lose most of my stuff. I think its ridiculous for me to go to a store for an update….its 2011.

Here is to hoping the iphone is coming to tmobile in october..looks like I am going to iOS after being with android since the G1.

    • J. Williams

I stopped using android a while ago,  and I too was one of the first to jump on board.  But to me, its played out already along with the iphone.  Try WP7, it is hands down much better that iOS and Android in my opinion.  Now webOS on the hand, is even better.  Give one of those a test drive if you are willing, before jumping on the iphone.  You won’t be disappointed, trust me.

WebOS…are you serious, that ishhh is dead…wp7 has so much potential yet still raw, now stop kidding yourself because droids & iphones will never be played out even if that’s just your opion; just say you don’t prefer either of the two OS’

        • J. Williams

Keyword ‘opinion’ respect it, now kick rocks back to where you came from youngster.  And when ya get there, open the book.

        • AlealeG2

I LOVE webOS, its my favorite OS and I personally think its the best. BUT the thing is that it wont be supported in the future. How do you get a Pre 2 to run on tmobile? I think theres a way to use a pre on tmobile…but you have to use EDGE…theres no way I want to deal with edge. I infact tried WP7..its amazing. I love the integration it has with the tiles, but I dont see myself using it too much. I would ditch android in a heart beat if tmobile brought a webOS phone

I really don’t have any “smoothness” issues myself, but ICS is supposed to fix that with gpu acceleration

        • Anonymous

Web OS is sexy, but lack of support and apps have killed it. If there were an innovative hardware maker for Web OS, it would fly (so to speak)

I have the Pre 2 factory unlocked from HP, and yes it does run on EDGE, but its still pretty fast. I also am always in a WiFi spot too, so it works out well for me.

WP7 and webOS  and iOS is definitely much smoother than android in my opinion. I feel like those OSes are much cleaner compared to android. I feel like android has some catching up to do in terms of smoothness and cleanliness but we’ll see. My shots were down with webOS for tmobile and I just dont see myself with a wp7 device. My only shot is iOS at this point…I guess unless the nexus impresses me..but android just has disappointed me too much with the g2 lately.

oh..and the keyboards (touchscreen) on iOS and wp7 are 10 times better thank android’s for some reason…

You should try importing all your stuff to your memory card, or syncing with the cloud, and then attempt an update yourself. Pretty easy to do. :)

    • Ggvilleman

I took my G2 to the store and wasted about an hour trying to get the 2.3 update.. I DID NOT WORK! I literally wasted half the day to achieve nothing. Complete BS.. I was thinking about rooting, but with the new phones coming out I don’t see what the point is. I will just sell it the way it is. I am either getting the Nexus Prime or iphone 5. Whichever phone is the best all around experience. I have used android almost since the beginning of its existence.. but depending on how well the next gen iphone operates.. it might be time for a switch.

  • J. Williams

I was happy about this several months ago, but now I am not impressed.  I watched so may videos about it, I have become content with my current phone.  It upsets me sometimes that they waited so long, but I’m sure they had good reason.  But I for one want be fooled into buying this phone.  My Pre 2 is amazing and does all that this phone does, and more.

How many people have had their phone for at least 6 months before switching? Now what about 1 to 2 years?

I don’t get what you mean by ‘fooled’ into buying this, like there’s something wrong with it? Yeah it took a while, much longer than it should’ve (so much so that I’ll probably just wait for the Prime) but there is no way you can say that the Palm Pre running on T-Mo does everything this phone does and more…
      No HSPA+ (42+mbps)
      No NFC
      No 8mp back/2Mp ffc
      No 18200 mAh battery
      No 1.5Ghz dual core
      No way

      • J. Williams

the only thing in your list that appeals to me is the hspa+, other than that all the other things are just higher specs than other phones.  So what’s your point? Because they are not needed, they are wants. Big difference.  And that is what i mean by fooled, because companies will trick some people into thinking they need an upgrade in specs when they really don’t.  Ya know.   You won’t be getting speeds that high on your phone, anytime soon.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1586820069 steadymobb

Yea they are all improved specs and ‘wants’ but you said that your phone has everything this phone has and more, which, it really doesn’t…what exactly does the palm pre have more of?

        • J. Williams

I said  it is amazing, and does all that this phone does and more. Look up there and read it again. So once you get your prime or this phone, we can have a ‘phone off’ lol.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1586820069 steadymobb

Yeah I know that’s exactly what it says, I was just asking what exactly the Palm Pre does that is ‘more’ than the GS2…because I really have no idea of it’s features [pre]

But I think a phone off would be incredibly unnecessary

        • J. Williams

          lol

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1586820069 steadymobb

          My thoughts exactly

But seriously though, what does the pre 2 have more of? I am unsarcastically curious

        • J. Williams

instead of asking me over and over again, why don’t you ‘mob’ on over to gsmarena or phonescoop,  and do some research lol.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1586820069 steadymobb

I did mob on over and I guess PC Mags review sums it up, “ Palm Pre 2 is a finely crafted smartphone with a beautiful operating system. But the Pre 2 suffers from a thin app catalog, a cramped design, and last year’s hardware. It’s fun, but far from cutting edge.” and I went to phonearena and saw no spec that would classify as ‘more’ over any other smartphone…but my old Sidekick 3 runs on Edge so cool

and I have a Touchpad, it makes for a good internet browser and movies when I take trips but the webOS is nothing incredible, especially with no updates – obsolete in a couple years (technically obsolete now, but it’s still functional)

        • J. Williams

Nothing in my statement is untrue. So please go do some homework or something.  Or go ‘mob’ someone else..it’s all up to the user.  Enjoy your sidekick by the way…

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1586820069 steadymobb

Haha then how come you can’t tell me one feature makes the pre ‘do everything the gS2 does and MORE’ oh and read my post…”Old” sidekick that I had like 5 years ago, I own a BBcurve, iPhone 2g, BB 9700 and a G1, and I have a toucpad so I have relentlessly tried out all the OS’ and I’m not stupid

Either way, there’s no arguing with someone that has the topic of discussion as their icon pic haha so ridiculous

the original s2 looks so nice compare to the one t-mo getting.

    • Josh Garrett

I like the one T-Mo is getting. It looks like the Sensation, which everyone says has an AMAZING body design.

      • guest

Except the sensation has a metal housing that makes it twice as heavy

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_GEHFXH67KK5NVX6X7PBMFVPXPA Infrared

LOL. I am by no means a fanboy because I find my Sensation less than sensational, but to say that the metal housing makes it twice as heavy is ridiculous. Most people who have held a Sensation agree that it is perfectly weighted and designed. In the future I will actually hope to get devices that are as heavy (and I use that term delicately because it’s not like the Sensation is a porker by any means, it just isn’t the ultra lightweight that the SGS2 is) as the Sensation is because it feels much better in the hand and more expensive.

        • Anonymous

I agree.  I’m a Galaxy S fanatic but the Sensation design and weight are just about perfect.  Now with that said, I would not want to put a case on that phone because then it becomes thick AND heavy unlike the Galaxy S which once you case it, its perfect.

The Sensation would actually be a phone I would be happy with not casing because I could just replace the body.
          Sensation w/out case = Galaxy S w/case

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_GEHFXH67KK5NVX6X7PBMFVPXPA Infrared

Such a shame. Had this come out at the same time as the Sensation, I would have gotten it instead of my Sensation. At this point, I’d rather just keep my Sensation (I’m already on a pretty fast, slick looking ROM). Further, the dev community is getting very close to adding proper dual-core support for the Sensation (its absence has been one of the primary reasons for the Sensation’s not too sensational performance), and once that happens the Sensation should be able to achieve very similar performance to the SGS2.

It will take a total upgrade for me to consider moving to another phone. Maybe the Nexus Prime will fit that bill, but no one knows anything solid yet about that device. Till then, I’m not gonna swap for a SGS2 if it means downgrading in certain areas such as screen resolution and UI.

    • Mastrorj

I’m with u man, but i think ill switch to this only bc I’m not crazy about video playback and capture. Also not crazy about the sensations camera either. Im rooted and have the revolution HD rom going and it runs so good without sense. But yea i hear u on the resolution its a downgrade i guess but for me not a deal breaker. oh heres a good question for u and everyone else on here. Can anyone tell me what the hell is the difference with the SGS2 and the att S infuse??? inside has super amoled plus 4.5 screen so can anyone tell me what the differences will be?? thanks guys!

Okay, folks, I’ve been looking forward to this phone like everyone else, but I have to wonder….in real-world, day-to-day, I’ve-had-it-a-month-so-the-new-is-worn-off terms, how will this thing differ from, say, the HTC Sensation? My poor, decrepit ol’ myTouch 3g would be fine if it just had more horsepower, and all the rest of the stuff is gravy.  On the one hand, if I’m going to pay full price for this beast, would I be just as happy over the long haul with a bit cheaper phone, or should I just future-proof myself as much as I can with SGS2? Sigh…

    • Anonymous

Sounds like you just need a cheaper phone like the Exhibit or the MyTouch 4G at most.

Difference between Hercules and Sensation is mainly screen size, Screen type, and the User Interface(Touch Wiz 4.0 vs. Sense 3.0).  YouTube it and you’ll see the difference between the UI’s

The Sensation has a better screen qHD true 16:9 ratio (960 x 540). It is more svelte than other 4.3″s because of the ratio.
      The Hercules has only 800 x 480 on a larger screen (4.5″)

Depends how you define ‘better’, some people would prefer the panel type of the AMOLED screens. The colors look better etc. I was driven nuts by the lit black color when I bought the Sensation. Granted I still love the phone, I would trade for the SGS2 screen though.

Regardless, that old decrepit myTouch 3g, I owned that as well. I couldn’t use anymore after I picked up the first SGS, let alone since i’ve had my Sensation. You won’t feel any regret upgrading. Tech will always get better at quite the rapid pace, there’s no such thing as “future proofing” yourself. There’s going to be quad core phones and even higher resolution screens next year.

Samsung phones are awful!  Two of my friends got so frustrated with them that they ended up smashed against a wall.  The best Android phones are really made by HTC.  They may lack one or two of the features of some of the higher end of the Samsung phones but they are reliable and much better made.  I have nothing but good things to say about my HTC MyTouch 4G.  It runs on Gingerbread and runs very well.

    • The ATL Guy

On my 3rd mytouch 4g so would have to disagree with you.

      • Wilma Flintstone

On my 7th HD2 so I’d have to disagree also. September just cant come soon enough.

    • Guest

HTC has it’s share of glitches, but nowhere nearly as many as Samsung. I remember getting the Vibrant and spending hours applying various homebrew tweaks and “fixes”, just to attempt to make it work as intended. A couple of months later, I bought my wife a G2 and was blown away by the far superior user experience. Luckily, I was able to sell the Vibrant when the MT4G came out. The MT4G simply blew the Vibrant out of the water. I sold it to finance the Sensation, but there was absolutely nothing wrong with the phone.

It’s possible that Samsung learned its lesson from the Galaxy S disaster and stepped up their quality control and testing. Maybe, just maybe, the Hercules will be a great device. However, it’ll take a while for Sammy to regain my trust.

  • Wilma Flintstone

The SGS2 is a nice device. One thing I don’t understand though is why the delay in the US? I’m guessing it has something to do with the revised versions for each carrier but that is just my conjecture. Yes, I just used a big word to make myself sound really smart.
Hey it seems to be the thing to do around techie forums. :P

But see the difference is, I am actually smart and know what the words I use mean :P Lol.

I think the delay is because Samsung wanted to change some features that Apple has challenged for patent violations. For example the home button has been replaced. It is not that Samsung is deliberately delaying it. They too realize that their window of opportunity becomes smaller, the closer they get to iPhone 5 launch. Android has taken up the US market because it is available on all wireless providers compared to iPhone which had an exclusive deal with AT&T for last 3+ years.    If iPhone is available on all providers like Android, then the market will decide who the dominant player will be.

      • Anonymous

The single home button was removed and replaced with 4 capacitive ones on last years US Galaxy S as well.

    • Anonymous

Well I honestly don’t think legal issues held this phone up here because nothing appears to be  stopping it from being released so far.  I think its been strategic timing along with supply.

When we first heard about the Hercules it was strongly rumored to have a Qualcomm processor probably due to high demand of the Exynos.  Since we now know that the Hercules is officially part of the Galaxy S II family then I highly doubt that it will not have Exynos on board.

Furthermore, we all know your super intelligent Wilma :-P

With the rumors going around about the new Nexus Prime phone, it seems that the SGSII is a little too late to the party, specially if it does become true that the Prime will see the limelight in October. I almost have an upgrade available with T-mo and if they end up getting the Nexus, my decision will be made for me. I’m sure I’m not the only one that will just skip the Hercules and wait for the Prime… Specially if those delicious rumored specs are true.

My G2X Running Stock gingerbread Vanilla. I love how fast it is The stock UI does not bother me But I think the stock Gingerbread camera SUCKS I use my camera for everything I don’t want to carry a big bulky camera That’s why when I get a phone It has to have a good camera That’s 1 of the reasons why I got a G2X I love the LG UI CAMERA. 1080 WAS COOL AND 720 WAS PERFECT Pictures were clear Pop right at you Once I updated 2 gingerbread all those features got flushed down the toilet as for the T Mobile GALAXY S 2 it’s running the newest version of gingerbread with touchwiz 4.0 and right now is the fastest phone in the market : I’m feeling the 4.5 inch screen and it’s crazy how slim it is I know it’s going to have the best camera out of any phone 1080 and 720 goin to be sick picture quality is going to be amazing and let’s not for get the 42mbps tmobile is claiming I’m almost on board for the Samsung hercules as for the Droid prime all of that we know is its coming with android ice cream sandwich it will be very fast the first to ever have a 720 screen and let’s not forget the 4.5. Inch screen but that’s all we know my biggest question is how good is the camera going to be because you can have the world’s fastest phone if the camera is crap the phone ain’t that great I’ll wait and see what happens let’s hope for the best

I’ma say 3 things.  First is that there is only one period in that entire paragraph.  Second is that I forgive you for that because I’m a Samsung fan.  last is that I also avoid Nexus phones because of the generic camera App and I REALLY hope that they put some real software in the Nexus to go along with the camera next time.

As it stands, Samsung has the best Camera App but apparently HTC has caught up to them with the Slide 4G.
