Samsung Hercules Surfaces Yet Again In Canada

Those lucky folks in Canada are getting yet another glimpse at the Samsung Hercules in the wild and this time they’ve brought out the benchmark scores and they are impressive. How about a 3359 Quadrant benchmark score to be exact powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor is confirmed to pack 42Mbps HSPA+ capability in our neighbors to the North. We’ll just sit here and keep our fingers, toes, arms and legs crossed that those speeds make it across the border and onto the future T-Mobile Samsung Hercules.

The folks at MobileSyrup are are describing the Hercules similar to the Nexus S with the same curved edges along with a chrome band that wraps around the device. Forget the look of the phone for a second and check out the benchmark score again. Any takers? Oh August 29th can’t come soon enough.

I hope that posted october release date by tmobile is not the case, given that the vibrant was the first to be released of the galaxy s series here in the states. Can’t wait: Amaze vs hercules

Wow, I can’t wait till October 26th.. time to replace this hd2 that has a cracked screen and broken micro usb port.. hellooooo Hercules!

    • Anonymous

strange how the date went from Sept. 26th to Oct. 26th like that. Im hoping oct was just an early date and it has since moved up.

  • OKDave

Be more exciting if I didn’t have to wait until nearly November to be able to buy the stupid thing. Never has their been so much hype about a phone no one in the US can buy.

    • jarjon76

And the actual performance won’t equal the hype this thing has gotten. This is the current “latest and greatest” phone that will be replaced by something else within 6 months. Nothing more.

      • OKDave

Can’t help but think you’re probably right. Someone I know has a Vibrant, picked it up last August, and it seems like a screamer compared to my poor, wheezing, gasping myTouch 3g. I wouldn’t mind spending the $ for the “latest and greatest,” but at some point the waiting is ridiculous while my current phone keeps spontaneously rebooting and hanging. I wonder about just getting something like the Sensation and being done with it

      • Anonymous

Actually probably only a few weeks because the Nexus 3 / Prime or whatever is supposed to be released.  Rumor has it that Google is pushing up the release date because of the Iphone 5…

ok this def seems to be the regular Galaxy S II, Cortex A9 precessor, instead of the rumored Qualcomm processor that this thing is rumored to come with. My interest is definitely peaked again for this device!!

    • J-Hop2o6

Just like I thought.. It wouldn’t have a Qualcomm SoC since Sammy doesn’t use Qualcomm SoC’s.. And these scores look like it WILL be Samsung’s Exynos SoC.. Glad it wasn’t Tegra 2, nor a A8 Qualcomm.. Thank God.

Not only do benchmarks mean nothing, they also are testing these before the carrier bloatware and customizations that will be on the U.S. version. Also keep in mind that the Exynos is a synchronous processor so they are both always running at the same speed (like Tegra 2) so it will be faster since one core is never shut down. That said, the benchmark is usually higher also based upon upon the Mali 400 GPU it uses which is a beast and flies faster than the others (Adreno 220 and the Tegra 2).

Still a no go for me though since I like my battery-sipping Sensation that is soon to be fully rooted. I feel October will be too late of a release since Nexus Prime and others will be around the corner (along with an iPhone 5 possibly for those, like David, who like that sort of thing). Sammy’s own GS3 is said to be in the works coming out in Spring of 2012 too.

I’m a huge Android lover. Started with the old G1… I played with a HTC HD7, and I hate to say it, but it was the smoothest phone I’d ever used. Just in the short 5 or 10 minutes that I played with it. Unfortunately most of the time when people hate on Windows Phone, they’ve never actually messed with one. I was a WP “hater” myself. I’ve seriously considered making the switch.

Sad that we will know that it will not get updated until Spring or Summer at the soonest.  Its quite possible that next Nexus will be the most popular Android availible for 6 months if it has an HD screen, is 4.3″, and is sold simultaneously on all 4 major carriers.

Rotfl,……….this phone is for people that want the latest, greatest, biggest, and fastest. Tech heads who could care less of how it feels in hand vs performance potential.

    • Nate30

Not true.. the Sensation has a qHD screen (ratio 16:9), so even though it’s only .2 smaller, it is actually more “rectangular” and narrower. The Sensation is slimmer than other 4.3″s and has more resolution  (960×580) even than the Hercules (480 x 400)

      • Anonymous

        Can’t argue with that!

  • http://hand-gadget.com Alex Nguyen

Samsung is losing more and more potential buyers each day because the closer we get to a Nexus Prime announcement, the more people will decide to wait for it. I’m obviously referring to the techies out there who actually know about an imminent Nexus Prime arrival, but still, these are people who can potentially purchase the Hercules instead. Too bad it took them so long…I was REALLY excited about this phone. More thoughts on the Hercules on my blog at littlegreenrobot . net

    • Auser72

The deciding factor for T-Mobile customers is subsidization of Nexus Prime. Few people are willing to full price for high end phones.

      • Anonymous

I’d say it boils down to whether or not there will be a TMO banded Nexus at all.  If there is then there’s no way in hell it wouldn’t be sub’d.

I bet TMO won’t get one until they are “still a company” next year.  If I had to guess the order of release, it would be VZW, Sprint, ATT, TMO.

    • George

There are indeed reports of an October release for the Nexus Prime.  But is that going to be in the U.S.?  Samsung isn’t going to cannibalize their own GS2 by releasing the Prime the exact same month.  Expect it to go through the same release timeline as the GS2.  In other words, Asia first, then the states months later.  Sure you can buy it unlocked but don’t count on 4G, maybe even 3G, compatibility with TMO.  To each their own but IMO it’s absurd to pay that much for a phone and not have 3G/4G support.

  • Anonymous

I’d totally buy this thing if it came with a keyboard.

    • http://twitter.com/flashy32 ben

why don’t you buy a regular lap top. Damn, people are pushing manufacturers to go back to the old school things. 4.5″ next 5.x”…i think those devices are big enough to decently use the onboard keyboards.

      • Anonymous

Oh damn, you’re right now I see the error of my ways! Tell you what though, I’ll give up my keyboard phone if you agree to only use the cheap toilet paper from now on.

I just looked at a hand full of GSII Quadrant videos as well as some EVO 3D tests and this 3359 score screams EXYNOS whereas the EVO averages around 2000-2250.

I believe that the EVO 3D’s MSM8660 chip is better than the APQ8060 one and if that is the case then there’s no way that Qualcomm hit 3359 on that thing.  Its gotta be a Sammy chip in there.

It’s not a sammy. I’ve confirmed this with a Tmo Manager whos tested the device. It is in fact, a Qualcomm processor.

The 8660 and 8060 are the same processor, the main difference is that the 8060 does not have a radio modem built in the ship which allows a carrier to add a modem specific to their network. Both the 8660 and 8060 are based off of last gen Cortex A8 architectures (slightly modified by Qualcomm).  If the Herculus comes with the Qualcomm it will be dead in the water.

My theory is that the gsm version has the Exynos chip while the Verizon(cdma) version has the Qualcom chip. Just a theory though. Seems like I had read somewhere that the Qualcom chip was the only one compatible with LTE. Anyone with any insight as far as LTE chip compatibility.
