Is This The Nation’s Most Advanced T-Mobile Store?

According to an article written by the Carlsbad Patch.com online AOL magazine the T-Mobile PhoneZone Retail location in Carlsbad, California is the most advanced T-Mobile store in the country. Store owner Ken Plachno calls it the “technologically most advanced cell phone store in the nation and very experimental.” Brave words for Mr. Plachno but a quick look at the video shows that the T-Mobile PhoneZone is definitely trying something new with their learning center.

“Additionally, we are the first in the nation to have an onsite wireless training facility. The Learning Center is a customer training facility that is state of the art and the future of wireless,” explains Plachno.

Classes are available to T-Mobile customers for $15 and non-T-Mobile customers for just $20. Along with the learning center the store includes touch screens that allow T-Mobile customers to compare phones and services using both a smart table and window projection displays. Cool stuff.

Any TmoNews readers ever been to this retail location?

I accidentally liked your comment, I don’t like your comment, however, that is not an iphone, it looks like either a galaxy s or LG G2x with a stupid apple wallpaper, why someone would set an apple wallpaper on an android phone is beyond me.

Ummm, okay? I just want to buy a phone. I can learn how to use it when I get home.

    • Jack

Not everyone. You’d be surprised at the type of people who call in for the basic of most tasks when it comes to phones or mbb. In store training would be amazing

have been there too. The video doesn’t do them justice. The people there know a lot about the phones and the tech surrounding the devices. The touchscreens are cool. What  I got from the staff is they are there to help, from the noob not know anything about smart phones to someone who wants to work with google docs on any android device, tablets or phones. Actually i think the concept is bold.

Well since most locations are just kiosks and they got a huge touch screen that’s already “advanced” than the rest.

Whoever you are Megan, we love you!  This is Ken Plachno the guy referenced in the article and the owner of the store.  We are going to attach some more videos to show all the crazy tech and research we put into this place.

@David and Andrew: If any of your staff want to take some of our classes for free we would love you to review them for us and give us feedback.  We love your site and would respect anything you had to add to our little experiment.

Ken, neither Andrew nor myself live in California but if you’d be willing to do a virtual school I’d be happy to review it!

      • Plachno

We run daily distance learning classes through WebEx and we can set you up no matter where you live, and its the same class and interaction you would receive in person.  Since we just opened classes this week our website isn’t done yet, but we can just get you in manually.  Feel free to contact us and we will get you set up.  Your site has been training my employees since we opened so we would love your input.

We are right now playing with VNC and Launchers to get some more advanced stuff on the board.  We are also toying with the idea of app creation as well.  We intend to get pretty advanced after we have a basic curriculum.

      You owned by Wireless Vision?

  • Girth Brooks

Phone Zone?  Store Owner?  I don’t think that it is a corporate location, not that it necessarily makes a difference, just saying.

    • Noodlegrl318

Corporate locations are NEVER nice! They are always so rude! Family owned is the way you wanna go?

      • Noodlegrl318

        *!!!

      • Girth Brooks

Not always.  I work for corporate and am very helpful.  I also worked at a dealer that sold T-Mobile for 5 years.  Corporate thinks dealers are shady and dealers think corporate are rude.  Having worked at both, there’s advantages to each.

        • Bigjoetmo

i have had the pleasure and dissatisfaction in dealing with both dealer and corporate stores, it come down to how much are they willing to invest in the customer? Having had interaction with the folks at this particular dealer, i can tell you both corporate and dealers should take cues from these people. very helpful and very tech savy. Thier idea of having a consumer learning center within the store is something that tells me they want whats best for the customer. Keep it up The Phone Zone and The Learning Center.

    Awesome store !!

  • KhakikiGurl

This store looks AWESOME! I think it’s great that there is an option for people who want to start using smartphones for the first time but are afraid to make the investment because they are so complex. Will you guys offer advanced classes as well for those of us that are more then your average user?

    • Tom Davis

There are a few more advanced classes already in the line-up with more coming. I for one would very much like your input here. After all, the curriculum is for your benefit. Did you have a topic in mind?

      • KhakikiGurl

How about classes on custom launchers or rooting? I’d pay for an expert to walk me through that!!

        • http://phonezonelearningcenter.com/ Tom

We actually have a class that will launch in the next few days on custom home launchers – expect it early next week!

Now… as much as I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to teach the dark arts ;) I expect it would be a very bad thing if a really expensive phone got bricked on my watch. Just sayin’
