HTC Ruby To Be Branded HTC Amaze 4G?

We’re starting to get a much better picture of what the HTC Ruby will look like come launch day with Pocketnow hearing from a reliable tipster that the device will be branded as the HTC Amaze 4G. Based on the specs and rumored HSPA+ 42Mbps capability we certainly hope that this device will in fact be amazing. With a rumored October 26th launch date we’ve got plenty of time to kill as we wait for more information to leak out. Hopefully we’ll even see some more Mr. Blurrycam shots of the Ruby/Amaze 4G in the wild.

SG2 hardware is awesome and UI is alright; Espresso is okay and Ruby might have similar hardware to Sensation but probably pales in comparison to the Hercules/SGII

Looks great but how will this make Sensation users feel???

They’ll bitch and moan just like the Vibrant owners did when the GS4G came out, etc…

What they say: “I’m soooo done with T-Mobile… they released the Sensation KNOWING this was coming around the corner… turning in to AT&T already, blah blah blah”

What I’ll hear: “How dare a company continue to innovate technology. I’d rather have no improvements EVER, and still be using a Nokia 6800 than be forced to deal with this injustice!”

      • Detox702

I agree the whining is pointless, but in this instance they do kinda have a point. One of these phones will cannibalize the other, and it was a bit pointless for them to release them so close together, considering the similar specs. These should have been launched as a pair (possibly a trio, with the T-Mobile Astonish 3D (My name for the Evo3D)) for back to school or some other sort of special. All three phones are practically the same, with only minor spec differences, and would have something (Sense, 3D, or Vanilla) for everyone. This would have been huge for T-Mobile.

        • Anonymous

They really aren’t “that” close together if the suggested release date is correct. Sensation launched June 15th, this is predicted to launch October 26th. That’s roughly 4.5 months. I would suggest that one phone every four months is pretty much the sweet spot. Customers are upgrade eligible after 20 months, and can leave without penalty after 24 months. This means that carriers should be making sure that “somewhere” in that four month window they are able to re-sign an existing customer with a new great device. It’s just smart business.

Suppose they did release all three simultaneously as you suggest. Should they have all been released in June? Then people would surely bitch that T-Mobile is too slow to release new phones come October when they have nothing to offer us. Should they have waited until October to release the Sensation and the MT4GS?  Then we would be bitching now about the lack of new handsets.

It’s a losing battle for carriers, especially for T-Mobile (who happen to have one of the most diverse line-ups currently.)

At the end of the day, no matter what they do people will bitch. I, on the other hand, am just happy that we have such desirable phones to choose from. A year and a half ago, it was a whole different story.

        • Detox702

You have some valid points that I haven’t considered. It really is a lose-lose game for T-Mo. I do think they should have planned some huge sale for all three at once (and the MT4GS could have been a summer filler…) but either June or October are not ideal launches. Maybe all in August? With confirmation of the dates, teasers to pump up interest, and deals, instead of rumored leaked release dates? Have the MT4GS for those that are impatient, release them all in August, and then in October release the SGS2. That way, HTC gets a fairly huge sale just before back to school, the MT4GS is a decent phone for the impatient (Or those that want a keyboard) and the SGS2 is a high-end device later in the year.

IMO the Sensation and the Ruby could release whatever time frame apart and it be acceptable if one is a Sense device and one is not.  The hardware may be close but the entire experience of the phone would be worlds apart.

Now in the case of the 6 months apart Vibrant and Galaxy S 4G, I will never let that down because the front camera should not have been removed from the phone in the first place.  In case you didnt know, you can buy a camera and slap it back in there and Boom, front camera, I did it myself.  I let em slide on the 4G radio because maybe it just wasn’t ready yet.  That was the first 21Mbps phone here anyway.

In that particular case, it was like T-Mobile intentionally left out a feature(s) in order to re-release the device.

        • Anonymous

Or, they left it out BECAUSE the 4G antenna was not part of the package. Maybe they didn’t want to ruin the upcoming AT&T bashing campaign in reference to being able to video chat over the network as opposed to WiFi, and having a Vibrant with FFC potentially ruin that.

Or maybe Samsung and Sprint had an agreement that the Epic would be the only 4G/FFC Galaxy released for the first 6 months? We’ll never know, but deals like that are relatively commonplace in this industry.

In your first paragraph, you say that the two HTCs could be released whenever, because the lack of Sense delivers a different experience to the user. I would suggest the same about two phones in which the only difference is a 4G antenna and Video Chat… then again, I’m not all butt-hurt over buying a Vibrant.  ;)

The big difference appears to be the build quality may be plastic or something similar to the MyTouch 4G’s (With Metal backplate surrounded by plastic) and of course.. the 1Gb of Ram.. could’ve released the Sensation with 1 Gb of Ram at least.. then it’d be up to the user; based on appearance of UI and hardware, which they prefer.

how can you even consider buying any T-mobile phone when it won’t run on AT&T’s network (even if it takes a year before they get things running and switched over)???  I don’t get it.

Some of us can afford the $99-199 new contracted phone we will have to buy when the old one stops working and keep it moving.  Plus, as a customer who is forced to buy a new phone or leave, AT&T will more than likely offer an additional discount to keep you as a customer(trade in your old phone).

      • Detox702

This would be great. Unless AT&T offers something big, I’ll either be going with Sprint or MetroPCS when my contract ends or is terminated. For my exact same plan on AT&T, I would be paying $115/mo, when I’m currently paying $60 with T-Mo. Exact plans. Unlimited talk/text/2GB web. I can’t really afford for my plan to double in price when I’m not getting any additional services for that.

        • Anonymous

When does your contract end?  You might wanna sign a new one to keep that $60 plan as long as you can.

        • Detox702

I just bought the Sensation and as part of that was moved from the EM+ $59.99 plan to the Value $59.99 plan, and re-signed until Aug. 2013. AFAIC, it isn’t a difference. Same plan, same 2GB throttle, etc. Just a different name.

So, unless AT&T terminates my contract, I’m set. And, I still have a corporate discount I can apply at some point in the future if I need to. (I haven’t yet, because it only gets me a discount on activation and accessories, not monthly charges. And I haven’t needed to activate a new line recently.)

        • LC

On the new Value plans you can get the discount added to the monthly service :)

You realize that even if the buyout were to be finalized tomorrow morning, that the T-Mobile phones will likely work at their fullest for another two years, right?

    • Anonymous

When they finish the deal, they’ll have to comply with whatever conditions you signed on before they took over. So about 2 years after the deal, they can flip the T-Mobile switch off, since no one will have a contract longer than that.

Buying a phone now makes sense, especially since its guaranteed to work for 2 more years, as long as you sign a contract.

Not buying a new phone until AT&T deal is final. Buying a phone not knowing if it will be screwed in the future is pointless. Looks like I have a lot left to go with my G2…. which sucks because I really want a new phone already (even though it works great)

I haven’t read or seen why anybody with a Sensation should even buy this phone that’s gonna drop. From the rumor specs, its gonna be slightly faster than the Sensation. Same size screen and everything. I’m good with my Sensation. I just want the Galaxy S2 when it drops.

  • Auser72

The only thing that would make me consider this over Hercules would be a better display.

    • Auser72

Better display over Sensation that is.

Better at burning in and having horrible over-saturation issues?

        • Anonymous

Better at not fading out your screen when you look at it at an angle, better daylight visibility and produce REAL black.

After 13 months of looking at a SAMOLED screen, I very rarely notice the TEMPORARILY “burned in” image.  My keyboard sometimes has a residual image after it goes down but it only takes a few seconds to fade away.  That is the extent of my burn in.

As for over-saturation?  I often see my phone next to an EVO or MT4G and notice how “whiter” their white is and how mildly blue mine is BUT I only think about the colors when compared to LCD.

Real black is worth the trade off for me.  Its like choosing between a 150,000:1 contrasted LCD vs. 10,000,000:1 contrasted local dimming LED TV.

If there is no sense, i’d be shocked if its not a G series phone. Fastest data speeds, stock android = G series. Just like the G2 (first w/ hspa+) and the g1 (first real 3g smartphone for tmo).

The g2 is due for an october refresh, maybe theyre kicking the keyboard out of the series (g2x – plus the mt4g slide just came out).

Interested to see if this 42mpbs actually makes some significant gains over the current crop.

  • Chrisangel13

what i’m most interested in finding out about this phone is whether or not this phone will have 1GB of RAM and what the internal memory is like. One reason I haven’t pounced on the Sensation was because it only had 768 MB of RAM and a measly 1GB internal memory. Yes, i could move most of the apps i use onto the microSD 8GB card, but from what i’ve read some apps or games which use the phones’ processes automatically installs some of it’s data onto the internal memory even if the rest is installed on the microSD card. Someone correct me if i’m wrong.

    • michael

are you really gonna use 1gb in apps? Thats like 50-100 apps

      • Chrisangel13

since i don’t own any consoles, mobile gaming is a must have for me. these days mobile games have skyrocketed in quality and as such, games from big developers like Electronic Arts, Square Enix, Capcom, Activision, and Gameloft easily can range from 300 MB to 1.5 GB, so internal memory as well as 8GB microSD cards for that matter, would fill up very fast i’m afraid.

        • Matlock

If you are looking for a great mobile gaming platform then save your money  and invest in a PSVita or whatever its called, or hell even invest in a CONSOLE for a little more than the cost of the phone, you will get way more out of your console than out of the phone.  Ive owned quite a few high end android phones, and currently have a Sensation, and find that gaming on the phones still pales in comparison to gaming on a dedicated handheld or home console. The lack of buttons really makes it a decent experience at best, nothing beats gaming on the real deal!!!

    • Anonymous

I’ve seen reports that say it will have 1GB of RAM.  No word on internal storage yet, but more likely than not it will be the usual ~1GB.

Same crappy last gen Cortex A8 based chip as the Sensation…kicked up 0.3ghz.  It’s like painting flames on the side of your Le Car.  No thanks.

  • im a noob :(

I’m sorry this post is going to be off topic.
Hey David I wanted to ask you or anyone one on here who would be kind enough to help me out with this question…..I am currently under contract with T-Mobile since fathers day with the 200 mg plan with three line two sensations and an iPhone what would I have to do to switch to the “best plan ever” ? Would I have to pay or anything like that ? And would you or anybody on here recomend me to stay with what I got or switch ? Oo and I also have a problem with one of my two sensations it has sort of dust under the screen what can I do and can anyone help me by telling me what to do ? sorry I’m kinda new to all of this thanks to anyone who helps

some questions for you… all three lines have 200mb data? what plan? unlimited? or shared minutes? if unlimited is your third line also unlimited?
To switch to “Value” plans its $200 per line. It would normally still be worth it to switch but since you did the fathers day plan and are saving $10/mnth on all 3 lines for a year it works out almost even. So it’s kind of up to you what you want to do. The $200 per line is billed on the next bill so unless you want to pay $600 on one bill I would stick with the plan you have now.

As far as the phone goes, take it into a TMo store and have them check it out. If they determine that it’s not due to physical damage they can file an exchange for you. Hopefully you went with PHP Bundle (insurance) so it will be overnighted to you for $5.

      Hope This Helps :)

I did go on father’s day but they told me the only way you get the free data was if you signed up with the unlimited data plan….and I got the plan that T-Mobile is about to grandfather the unlimited data with 200mb of 4g and all three are like that

do you plan on moving to get out of the contract and lose your phone number. If you were to say that you are moving out of the country you can get out of contract. Some have moved their numbers over to google voice to retain there numbers then move them back over never had to do that extreme.

hey noob the only thing u could do is if ur 18 months u could jump in a $49.99 whit everything unlimited but u have to have 18 months or they will charge u 200 to cancel the contract and put u in a $49.99 plan

WP7.5 goodness??? Talk about a contradiction.

Can’t imagine anything presently less relevant than Windows Phone, except perhaps that hot new Nokia Desktop Operating system…..(insert intense sarcasm warning)

It would be nice if it comes with Beats Audio, Sense 3.5 and ice cream sandwich. But most likely my next phone will be the Nexus Prime:)

the question is if will we see it in tmo?

My question is, why is he hyping an update that he has no idea what it does or even looks like?  What if Ice Cream Sandwich bricks your phone and looks like Windows Mobile (Highly Unlikely but just for instance)?  At least be satisfied with Gingerbread until some info is released on Ice Cream Sandwich.

HTC ONLY uses Qualcomm chips.. Where did u hear it’ll be TI OMAP?

  • J-Hop2o6

… its STILL AMOLED tech.. Nokia just used a layer that makes it a bit more clear.. I seen the comparison pic, and they both look great. I was comparing different screen techs like SLCD to AMOLED.. of course AMOLED wins.. What u just showed me was AMOLED vs AMOLED.. difference is the layers/panels.

Ahhh but you said nothing is better than SAMOLED+ and I just showed you an AMOLED tech that was. YOU WERE WRONG!!! DO YOU DENY THIS? Say yes and get kicked by Chuck Norris where the sun don’t shine.

Yeah I’ve read that article and it shows some could be real shots of ICS but alot have said it could be photoshopped and the article really doesnt say much about what ICS will be bringing thats new. Now the Nexus Prime is definitely going to be a hot device and I’d like more info on it as would lots of people. Have they confirmed who the maker will be this time? I remember hearing that it was LG’s turn a while back but I slightly remember samsung may make it again. I’d love a LG Nexus Prime. I just want to demo a LG device I’m not going to lie (mainly because LG supports Meego which makes them a favorite manufacturer in my book). But another Samsung Nexus would be sweet too.

i can almost guarantee you that it wont be called the Amaze 4g. This will be another My Touch. What was the code name for the myTouch 3g? HTC Sapphire. What was the name of the myTouch 4g? Project Emerald. Based on past trends, I’m willing to bet that this will be a My Touch

    • Chrisangel13

this does resemble the myTouch series more than it resembles the Sensation in my opinion

Nah, historically the mytouch series has always had physical buttons for home, back, menu and the ever present “genius” button (also a staple for the mytouch series). and they’ve always had some type of trackball/pad. considering this has none of the above, i would have to assume they’ll stick with the “amaze” moniker since this is really only a bit of an upgrade from the sensation.

Well we know that your guarantee fell through

  • userofphones

I keep hearing whispers that this phone will have a 1280 x 720 display. Sounds amazing but that’s what a couple insiders have mumbled under their breath. That would be excellent!

  • Kellyf

I really hope it comes out sooner!! my upgrade is October 13 and I desperately need a new phone! I was thinking about the samsung galaxy s 4g but I dont like how it doesnt have a flash not that it’s a big deal or anything but I would prefer that! I’m sorta wondering about the price of the htc ruby!!! ugh October 26 please come sooner!!!!!
