HTC Ruby Specs Leaked, 4.3″ Of Dual-Core Android Goodness

While the HTC Ruby is a bit of a mystery device a ninja source of ours we’ve been able to gleam a little bit of intel surrounding the specs and eventual launch. First and foremost this is not a myTouch device but will launch with a set of impressive and sure to please specs. The HTC Ruby will pack a 1.5GHz dual-core processor with a 4.3″ qHD display complete with a dedicated camera and video button (separate buttons) for the 8 megapixel camera on the back and the 2 megapixel camera on the front. Last but not least we’ve got 1GB of RAM and Bluetooth 3.0 on board.

That’s all we’ve been able to discover but we’ve been assured this device is sure to please once it arrives later this year. Along with the Ruby specs we’re hearing confirmation of a late September launch for the Samsung Hercules though an exact date was unknown. Of course now this means you can have some fun picking out your future device!

In that case, you’ll be waiting forever. The next great phone is always around the corner.

WinTF?! A Sensation successor already?! Leave it to TMO to bring out a better version of the same phone mere months later.

Worst part is no 3D and no ICS.

    • Auser72

Man, Tmobile been on Fire for 2012 with Hot Phones. It was just a year ago everybody was complaining about t mobile lack of choices and second rate phones. Now they arguably have the best 4G line up of all the carriers.

Same. I’m in a dilemma on if I should use it so soon to the Merger though. I’m absolutely appauled with how terrible this HD2 has become. It had a mass error yesterday where the date and time got screwed up which had my email and internet certificate screwed up.

        • Anonymous

LoLing @ your HD2. I’m sorry the N9 ain’t coming stateside Wilma. Gon’ and snatch up a Herc when it comes out.

Are you running WinMo or Android on your HD2?
In any case, you should reinstall/factory reset, install custom roms or install android.
If you phone is having mass error.

Maybe this will be the first collaboration with the Beats deal?

    • Wilma Flintstone

I hope so. That was the problem I had with my 2nd HD2. The Hardware Speaker literally failed and the only way I could hear was through headphones. I bought the white Nokia Bh-905i headset and they are GREAT!!!

      • Anonymous

I doubt its a beats phone cuz this phone has BEEN built while the deal was JUST announced. But I’m glad HTC partnered with them cuz their speakers are straight trash.

        • Wilma Flintstone

Soooo True.  HTC speakers are garbage so this deal will DEFINITELY help them on that end.  Now they just need to hire some Phone Designers to get some new designs out there.

This is my biggest gripe with HTC phones–and I only buy HTC phones. They are able to do all these great things, yet they can’t improve the video audio? I’ve seen low end phones that have better sound quality than most of the HTC high end devices.

        • Anonymous

I agree with you. The one thing I dislike about my G2 is the low audio. I’ve got an app that helps with that, (Volume+) but I have to put up with constant force close errors if I want to use it.

I mean, with all the bells and whistles, why can’t they fix the audio?

My Sensation 4G is supposed to be in my mailbox today and there is already a better phone out.  I’m not mad at T-Mobile, maybe they’re trying to keep some of the great customers, or better yet win more.  Come on loyal customers, let’s not me mad at Magenta because this is what they need right now.  Gee, I hope the planned merger with AT&T fails.

    • http://twitter.com/maceow Maceo Woodward

I would say that for at least the next few years, this will constantly happen. Mobile CPU technology is progressing faster than manufacturers can keep up.

It’s a bit off the opposite of what happened during the PC boom years. Then, CPU speed was having trouble keeping up with advances in software. However, since the more expensive piece (the hardware) was the factor slowing things own, it was more bearable. Now, the most expensive piece is leading the way.

So the question then becomes, is this ACTUALLY a 1.5 GHZ dual core, or is it really a 750 Dual core that’s being marketed as 1.5 (like the sensation or the mytouch slide 4g are marketed as 1.2 ghz dual core, but in reality are just 600 mhz dual cores).

    • Anonymous

huh?  sensation is 1ghz dual core – two cpus each capable of max 1ghz.  All phones throttle their actual speeds in realtime to save power.  if you see your mhz at 600 or so its likely being throttled up and down.

      • Lolocabra

that soooo TRUE dood stop bein a noob. if u see you cpu at 245mh or 600mh hst because of the rom kernel. it manage the speeds so u can have an longer lasting battery live and less over heated phone.

Same here.. as of right now, those are the three phones i’m looking at to replace my G2 with a cracked screen.

  • Me

just be happy with what you have… many are complaining about “oh man I just got _____ and now this is coming out”. If you didn’t know that was going to happen then you have been under a rock for the past two years because that’s the way this industry has been for a while. I have had my G2 since it came out and couldn’t be happier with it. When I get my next phone I will do my research when I’m ready to get it and pick what phone suits me best.
This trend is going to continue until people stop spending absurd amounts of money to have the latest and greatest. Its funny working at a store and seeing someone come in with a Galaxy S 4G phone and then buying a Sensation outright because they are not up for upgrade and just want a new phone. You have only had that for like 4 months!
Consumers have caused this, not the manufacturers. As long as consumers continue to buy why should they stop popping out phone after phone and not take advantage of it? It’s smart business!

“Don’t hate the player, hate the game”

    • jarjon76

You’re SO right, Me. I get a new phone every 2 years (when my contract is up). I’m not interested in chasing that “latest and greatest” dragon every few months because I “have” to have the “next big thing”. Not worth my time, effort, or money.

As I stated before, all of these high end smartphones are practically the same (with minor tweaks here and there). The smartest thing a consumer can do is pick a nice high end device, with everything they want (within reason–phones can’t fly or do your laundry), and be happy with that. Nothing wrong with owning something like the Sensation for the next 2 years.

The account rep for Costco was on my floor and just got the live demo to show the account.  Was in the right place at the right time that was all.

I’m thinking your probably right…Sensation is only 14.4…I was just making what I thought was an educated guess, I guess I need more education.

well I’m happy its a bit heavy, I like my phones to feel substantial and not hollow.

Loved the sensation but went back to the galaxy s 4g for the faster data speeds. Is the ruby going to have HSPA+ 14.4? If so I’m waiting for hercules our seeing what the nexus prime has.

  • Wilma Flintstone

I’m thinking about getting an Optimus 3D.  According to boygeniusreport, it will work on Tmobile’s HSPA+ frequencies.  It has 1700/2100 bands as well.  can anybody confirm this?  Here’s the BGR link: http://www.bgr.com/2011/03/24/lg-optimus-3d-passes-fcc-with-t-mobile-3g-bands/

Noooooooooooo!!!!! wait for project emerald, its a sidekick device made by HTC with a 4.3″ new TFT screen technology, a swivel screen, full qwerty keyboard with a dedicated number row, a qualcomm 1 ghz snapdragon processor, and a 5mp camera with zenon flash, a ffc, 512mb ram, and……I think that’s it. LOL

      • Wilma Flintstone

LOL!!! Yeah that just about covers it. LOL

    • J-Hop2o6

Just wait for these three: Nexus 3/Prime, Hercules, Ruby.. Optimus 3D was a lackluster phone.. don’t waste your $$$ on it.

my guess is this is the G3 because of all the problems that the G2x had or its the the Sensational, the Sensations big brother in white/silver….whatever it is I hope that its vanilla Android and not sense

    • Wilma Flintstone

It’s HTC, It’s going to have Sense.

      • http://twitter.com/SParKlngCyaNide SparklingCyanide

G1 is made by htc and that didn’t have sense although technically it didn’t exist in its form it is today at that time yet.

        • Bxcutie4life2001

Yes because it’s made by HTC but it’s a tmobile phone that’s why it doesn’t have the sense user interface on it just like the g2, g2x, mytouch, mytouch slide, mytouch 4g, all these phones are pure android no ui

        • Jtntdog

Wrong. Only the G2x was vanilla

        • Anonymous

          G2 was also vanilla android

          The G2X isn’t HTC, it’s LG Optimus 2X

        • Richardthegrape

I believe the myTouch 4g runs sense, a different version, but it has sense ui… not sure about the og myTouch, or the slide 3g tho…

Why bring this out?  There is already a sensation.  A little bump in specs, and they want people to buy it? WOW

    • IT Guy

Yet there will be people that bought a Sensation a month ago that’ll go out and get this thing the day it arrives!

  • The ATL Guy

with all the htc phones released recently with Sense I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a vanilla android phone

I think that is sense’s camera skin but I could be wrong, only played with a myTouch (not sure)

This definitely sounds better then the Sensation. Even though it sounds like similar specs, I’m liking the sound of 1.5 ghz cpu and 1gb of ram and I think that would make hell of a difference on performance wise. The dedicated camera and video button sounds pretty cool too! I feel bad for you Sensation owners out there. Good thing I passed on that. Even though this is looking to be a pretty awesome device, I’ll be passing on this as well for I’m holding out for Hercules. Samsung and T-mobile needs to hurry the hell up though!

Why do you feel bad for the Sensation owners? The Ruby will probably have the same processor as the Sensation. The Sensation’s processor is underclocked at 1.2 gHz to save battery and is more than capable of running at 1.5 gHz. The extra RAM would certainly be nice, but my Sensation runs just fine at 768 MB. It’s not a deal breaker at all. Besides, the Sensation definitely wins in the aesthetics department.

  • http://twitter.com/SParKlngCyaNide SparklingCyanide

Wow, Ruby is turning out to be high end and even a bit better than my Sensation.  What a nice surprise!  – D

Feel free to give me your sensation :)

I’d like to believe this is the HTC Sidekick. Remember the HTC/Sidekick/Emerald one?
