T-Mobile Classic And Value Rate Plans Go Live

Right on schedule T-Mobile has unveiled the Classic and Value rate plan selections and they are now ready for your buying pleasure. The new plans represent yet another industry first for T-Mobile as they attempt to move customers away from the equipment subsidy model that has been a staple of the American wireless industry for years. Time will tell how receptive customers are to the changes T-Mobile is making and whether or not a widespread shift in the industry is possible. If T-Mobile is successful at an offering that reduces the monthly cost without a subsidy on equipment the question will come as to whether or not the industry at large is ready for such a dynamic shift in purchasing devices? Will this effort succeed or fail, what say you?

    Could anyone help
Is there activation fees for switching from one plan to value plan?
    Namely from em+ to value

    • Barker1964

I just moved from EM+ to Value plan and its 54.99 for 2gb  or 59.99 for 5gb plus I joind Freelancers Union and got a 10% discount for the next 2 years both plans with unlimited talk and text.

      • Vlad

So where do you go to get the discount? Apply online or phone only?

      • Vlad

And the orices on site is 59.99 for 2gb data and $74.99 for 5gb

    • Barker1964

None at all. I moved to the Value plan and before I did I joined Freelancers Union and recieved a 10% discount for the next 2 years off my bill by the way it’s 54.99 for 2gb and 59.99 for 5gb with unlimited talk and text. To get the discount you need to join the union its free and when you get your member number there is a promo code  “7777TMOFAV” the 2 prices are before the discount was applied…..Not bad at all You apply the discount at the time of migration or they will not honor it.

FYI – They made me remove my Preferred Android Unlimited Web plan if I want it to switch to the Value Plan.

    • samuel

Does that mean the data doesn’t work on your android device?

      • Nguy3nm

They just made me remove the Preferred Android Unlimited Web add on, and if I want data I would have to add a new add on to it. 2gb for $20 or 5gb for $30.

        • samuel

I’m kinda confused with that, if I switch from EM+ to a value plan, I’d still have to pay 20 for 2gb rather than the +$10 2g data value plan?

        • LC

The value plan 2gb web is only $10, it’s $20 on classic plans. The $30 5gb plan is also a classic plan feature.

Well, yeah…that’s a grandfathered feature on a grandfathered plan…it doesn’t exist any longer to add to new plans.

Holy 3rd grade math, Batman! People think they are getting a deal on their classic plan phone.

Simple, if the difference between the full price and subsidized price is less than the extra cost of the classic plan, then you’ll save money on the value plan.

Eg.  For the sensation on the 500min 2gb plan.
With the Value plan, you’ll pay $550 for your phone.
On the Classic plan, you’ll pay $680 for your phone. ($20 more per month x 24 months = $480, plus $200 initial cost).

I agree, contracts suck for people bringing their own phone, but keep in mind, if the deal goes through, AT&T won’t have to honor EM+ plans, but they would have to honor these.

I hoped that the deal doesn’t go through and DT give T-Mobile US another chance to see where they stand, then I would re-new my contract… otherwise i’m off to somewhere else. Imagine if T-Mobile still on it own after the deal disapprove and having these plan… you’ll save so much pass 2 years!

    • LC

You’ll actually save $50 bucks on the Sensation…I rang one out today on the new plans and it was only $300 that was financed through EIP after the initial $199.99. Just throwing that out there :)

      • Ryan

So you’re saying you had to pay $250 up front and had $300 financed?  Or, you payed $200 up front, had $300 financed, and saved an additional $50?

        • LC

$200 up front and then $300 financed

        • Ryan

Wow, nice… That makes the value plan even more of a value:
          Value plan Sensation price: $500
Classic plan Sensation price: $680 (plus whatever extra monthly taxes are on $20 x24).

I think I’ll just stick with my 1800 minutes, 300 texts, unlimited nights and weekends and unlimited data. At least until the ATT overlords make me change. :-p

i’m going to try with tmo’s loyalty department once more and if they don’t help, i’ll scream out then run to target.

    • Anonymous

Loyalty?! Apart from carriers honoring previous agreements, there’s only the two prepaid alternatives; Tracfone’s Straight talk’s unlimited everything plan gives a base discount if you buy three months (or more) at one time. This is by far the cheapest short term prospect, the con being the absence of any new smart phones to make use f the unlimited everythingness. The next best (cheap-wise) option would be boosts unlimited plan loyalty reward system, which is tiered; for every 6 months you’re a recurring customer you have $5 reduced from the initial price.

They are still there they just don’t make since because cost wise the unlimited plans are the same so customers are given the better value.

Well just like zombies keep rising from the grave and never die, I am still with T-Mobile, indirectly.

My sister called today and said she was outside her local T-Mobile store.  A month ago I had told her to call me when she was going to that store, again, so I could walk her through which plan to get, etc.

So I talked to the clerk and then recommended to my sister she renew her contract. She got the value plan (think that’s what it is called) for unlimited everything, $58 or thereabouts total each month (fees and taxes included). She was paying $70 for just talk the last two years (I was really mad at her when she told me that.  And she was using an el cheapo feature phone too.  I gave her a Vibrant a couple months ago).

So there you go, T-Mobile is still in the family.

Don’t worry, I will not use my sister’s T-Mobile account as an excuse to hang in here.  But I thought that was kind of humorous.
