I want to replace one of my galaxy s phones(takes forever to boot)…i wonder how much this phone is to buy outright?…or is it better to add a line ..pay the $200 to cancel the line later.?

    • Staxx

The Galaxy S phones are some of the fastest I’ve seen boot (I don’t remember before I had a custom rom on mine), and seems a silly reason to swap phones anyway, you don’t spend your time rebooting a phone over and over.

On that subject..what are the steps to root a galaxy s and what custom rom do u recommend?

Just go to Ebay. You can find a great barely used one with everything included for around $150. Just have some patience looking and waiting for the right one to show up.

Second that, I picked one up on Ebay for 136 to get my MT3G past update time and have not regretted it.  10 times faster than the MT3G.

This is a very good phone. I recommend it.

“My Touch 4G” is a okay phone. But “SAMSUNG GALAXY S 4G” is the best phone.. So if you have the samsung 4g stay with it. Trust me its a big difference.

I love the screen but it has so much bloat and pre-installed apps, I cannot stand the S 4G

very good question.  I’ve been scouring the headlines for the latest on the Gingerbread update here.  Last news was essentially back in February.  This is taking FAR too long.  Wonder what’s causing the delay.

P.S., my Nexus ONE is rooted, running CM7.  Yes, I know I can do it to the MyTouch.  No, I don’t want to.  I’d like to see what elements HTC and T-Mo integrate from Sense 3.0 into the gingerbread update…if it ever comes.

The heck with carrier provided phones. So tired of the bloatware and how they limit the potential of a device. I’ll continue enjoying my Nexus ONE and Nokia E7 pentaband. Yeah, that’s right.

I love how they only do the free mytouch 4g for free for new customers/add a line. I’ve been a customer for 4 years and I was waiting for the price to come down on this more. I finally said ‘screw it’, and I’m just waiting a few weeks to upgrade to the Sensation. My husband got one and it’s amazing. Honestly, if I could get this phone for free, I’d take it as my upgrade, but if I’m going to have to spend $130 on it, I might as well splurge the extra $60 and get the Sensation which is a far better phone.

Dial 611 and ask for the customer retention department.  Plead your case to them and you’ll probably get it for free.  I did this earlier this year when I was only 6 months into my contract and they gave me a G2 for free.

There are benefits to being a long term customer who pays their bills on time.
