Why Is The G2x Still Out Of Stock?

Why oh why is the T-Mobile G2x out of stock? We asked ourself this question not only because it’s been almost 30 days the phone has been out of stock due to “inventory constraints” but because we just received the above screen shot. This image which shows the “get healthy” date of T-Mobile devices now shows the G2x as “tbd” as in, they don’t know when they’ll have enough stock to fill current orders.

Are we still to believe that the G2x is simply out of stock due to “inventory” issues or is T-Mobile simply waiting for a software update to fix the lengthy list of problems plaguing this phone. It’s time T-Mobile tells G2x owners present and future what is really going on with their device. Users who are on their 3rd and 4th phones deserve an answer. Why is T-Mobile being silent on this issue? It’s time to tell us the truth about where the G2x is and why it disappeared from T-Mobile.com

For those of you tempted to ask, there is still no ETA on the Gingerbread/bug fix update.

They’re having hardware issues. Simple as that. #G2X #NeedsFixing

I was just able to do an early upgrade on my line to a G2x, got it a few days ago.
Directly after I ordered it, it was out of stock again online.

  • Worddc

I have had 3 G2x’s now and all of them have light leaks and randomly restart.  They told me that it is the apps that I have on my phone and to delete them….tell me this, why have an android super phone if I can’t have apps on it!!!  Anyone else having issues with restarts from: facebook, pulse, flixster, kayak, redbox, engadget, mycast weather, or handcent sms?

    • Anonymous

I have 120 apps on mine and have had no restarts. Have facebook, redbox, engadget and handcent sms out of your list.

The firs time I called customer service they told me the same thing…and guess what? I had done a master reboot 3 days before and hadn’t downloaded ANYTHING…only apps on the phone were the ones that came on it…that i CANT get rid of…

      sounds mighty fishy to me

      • Ryan

My Account was causing the wifi issues for me. I rooted the first day, deleted the app, and it’s all good now. I’m going to delete all the other Tmobile crapware soon too, as they suck up memory (always running)

Of course people love to say it’s an app but WTF?
YA enjoy your POS android phone BUT don’t add alot of apps!
I am about ready to go Apple or W7

Went on my lunch break to a T-Mobile store and asked if they had any G2X’s I could test out. They said no. They said they weren’t allowed to sell any and had to return what they had back to LG. I asked how come and they said, screen issues and constant reboots. They were not given an ETA when they would get new batches.

  • Anonymous

I guess patients is a virtue… Foh! Yeah, that’s right, I’m on my fourth one and I’m ready to snap this thing in half if we don’t get no Gingerbread love soon, real soon! C’mon T-Mo, let’s spike the juice.

or get the g2x and root it now and be happy…i rooted mines since day one and have not experienced any of these problems.

try recording a video on the sensation and playing it back…it won’t work.

  • Victor19

I have a “good” G2x, rooted it and running a Gingerbread ROM. I have no problems, the hardware is sweet and and running Gingerbread means I don’t have to wait for the update. That said, I can understand the frustration. I took a calculated risk and it paid off.

I think my reboots have stopped altogether. Either that or continues to be infrequent. What is more frequent but still rare is the power down that happens when in standby. Luke leak issues go unnoticed. Works stellar otherwise. GINGERBREAD is around the corner. So i am not worried.

  • Crookedassfoo

Its not out of stock..T-Mobile isn’t selling it because of the issues and are waiting for the fix…we actually still have them in our store and we are able to sell them…but no further ones are gonna be available until the fix

Once the G2x gets the update it will be better than the sensation… I’m not impressed with the sensation.. Only thing better is the screen resolution no hdmi and for some reason its slower than the g2x… I love my G2x…

    • None

I do not like the contour screens on either one of them.  Please leave the screen FLAT

    • Deff

Keep telling that to yourself. The Sensation is slower because its running sense, which I thought I’d hate, but it is actually amazing. And there is an HDMI, you just need to buy the cord. Specs out do the G2X as well, and ill bet you’ve never even held a sensation, you’re just taking other peoples word for it. Go to a t mo store. IM not saying the Sensation blows the G2X out of the water, but I think it is better. And if I were to root my sensation, I’d bet it would be faster than the G2x because it doesn’t have to run the 3D effects on sense. We could talk all day though and you’d still think the G2x ia better, and I’d still think the Sensation is. Oh well.

  • Ccarpenter76

I’ve had my g2x since the day it came out, really no problems to speak of, got a new free battery but doing the master reset after the fact fixed it, still loving this phone and of course waiting for gingerbread

Clearly there is something more than “supply issues” going on. When I took my (first) G2x in about rebooting and battery issues, the associate was halfway through ordering my new one before I finished my explanation of what was wrong. She never even asked to see the phone–clearly, it wasn’t the first time she’d heard of issues with the phone. When I asked her if this was an issue she had been seeing frequently with this device she sighed and said “uh, no” (I obviously didn’t believe her). This is all in stark contrast to when I repeatedly took my old Cliq to same store for issues w/ Bluetooth and overheating. I had to nearly beg them for a warranty replacement then.

This lack of transparency for subscribers who spend literally thousands of dollars annually is unacceptable. I am with T-Mobile because they are different than the big boys: AT&T and VZW. This lack of transparency is uncharacteristic of the company I have come to evangelize for among my friends. I am out of contract and have been for over a year. This lack of honesty and transparency, if perpetuated, will drive me to Sprint or a regional carrier.

    I expect better from T-Mobile.

    • Mega Pikachu

You’ll most likely find something about the other carriers that you dislike more than “a device” issue. Working as a T-Mobile sales rep, I answer your customer questions based on what I see at my location, and to be honest, I haven’t seen ONE G2X come back for it’s described issues on this site. You’d have had to beg me too to give you another Cliq because Id have told ya you were going to have issues for the life of that phone LOL.

Definitely T-Mobile is holding it back for quality reasons. It’s still been readily available on wirefly and amazon wireless so why else would it be on backorder only at T-Mobile? Surely they have the ability to acquire more stock than outside partners so I feel that they know the issues and won’t sell it. They’re sending a message to LG that says “fix your damn problems and then we’ll order more stock.” As to why they are mum on the reason, I can only speculate that they are worried that if they admit the phone has these problems, no one will want it when it is restocked.

Every T-Mobile employee that has given out a reason for this is just making it up.  Customer facing employees are not given inside scoop.  Until T-mo releases a definitive explanation then everything we are told but customer service or store employees is just opinion

Actually after looking at some of the posts maybe LG is the one being proactive?
Too bad HTC stood by and did nothing while putting out the myrouch with screen issues and random restarts.

I have had issues with this phone. One concern is that the OS does not allow me to save my company tag as signatures on the phone. It defaults to TMo’s tag when I try and save anything. T-Mo says its a LG issue in the software and they are working on a software patch. LG says its T-Mobile and they are keeping it that way for marketing. I have been with them 10 years and have switched from the HTC touch pro 2 to this. The battery life on the G2x seem rather bad also . Any advice as which phone might be the best choice with T-Mo?

I sure can’t pick ‘em. First the cliq xt, now the update waiting game with this g2x. don’t really care about gingerbread, just fix some bugs for us. C’mon

    • http://twitter.com/zorbthegeek Skandor Akbar

Same here. Although I went O.G. Cliq to G2x. In my nearly two years on Android I have received exactly one OTA update: Cliq going from 1.5 to 2.1.

I don’t care that they put out a bad phone–stuff happens. I care that they won’t fess up to it. They said we’d have Gingerbread “by summer” well yesterday was the 21st… no OTA update. Broken promises, lack of communication are death to a small competitor like T-Mobile.

Figures. T-Mobile and LG are too p***y to fess up to the real issues of this device. S****y ass quality control and a lack of effort to right the wrongs.

  • Nolagirl1002

I love my g2x… had it since April. Finally made the switch to android, and could not be happier with this phone… about to root it, but that’s just for personal Modding preferences. Though, unlike iPhone, for you fanboys, I have been using it for two months without immediately having to jailbreak it so it will perform like I want it to… then do it all over again for os updates.

I have had it freeze up a couple times… pop the battery out, and wow.. everything’s fine. I have lost connectivity occasionally, turn it off and back on, and wow, it’s fine. the battery life’s not amazing, but for a device that’s doing so much so quickly, it’s understandable. Not as great as the old iPhone battery wise, but better than my husband’s old g2, and better than his new sensation… sorry, and my g2x is faster than his sensation, even running golauncher with crazy fun themes. I’m sorry you guys have had so much trouble, cause for me it’s been an amazing phone. Looking forward. To. The official gingerbread update, but about to root it anyway, so… o, it does get pretty hot occasionally when I’m Marathon gaming, but hey, also to be expected when I’m running graphic intensive apps for hours straight. Tmobiles service still blows att out of the ballpark… and it’s an amazing phone. The sensation is also nice, but gotta say my g2x is outperforming the husband’s sensation, which for a tech girl, I get to smirk about.:-] it’s a great phone.

Not sure why its been out of stock, but hey, I have friends, and a husband, who are little bit jealous, of me. Hope they get more in, and I highly recommend the phone when they do.

My old Cliq used to do the same thing.  In my case, it was a faulty CD card.  When it would read the card, it would not recognize it and Blurr would send me to the login screen.  Phone was not actually wiped but it always appeared to be.  This does not sound like you issue if you are certain it is actually wiiped vs. requiring login again repeatedly.  But that was my experience.

I have G2x and Sensation. My G2x does have the screen bleeding issue. But its so small that I would have never noticed if I had not looked for it. Other than that. I have had no problems with my G2x it works flawlessly and is faster than my Sensation. Even though the screen is a little smaller the colors are better on the G2x. The Sensation looks more pale or washed out. And did I mention the G2x is blazingly fast. I will be selling one or the other.

  • Auburn99

I got the same deal and had the phone delivered in 2 days. No problems whatsoever. Still can’t believe I got it for $399 with no contract!

I had the same thing happen to me.  The phone was fully charged in the morning and appeared dead from other causes in the afternoon.  It wasn’t until I plugged it into the charger and it booted that I realized something had drained the battery down to 1% in a matter of hours.  Just sitting idle, no wi-fi, no browsing the web, nothing.

Lucky Goldstar’s issues of late indicates: a failure to communicate. But this is typical of many companies, isn’t it.

What really frosts me is that manufacturers and carriers are really good at hyping products and generating excitement and interest.  But after making the sale, these same companies get tight-lipped if problems with the product surface.

Instead of laying low or “hiding out,” companies should work with the online community.  They should participate in the discussion and address first adopters’ concerns.

Just as much as companies use the Internet and social media to hype products, manufacturers and carriers should also use Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, blogs, forums and fan sites to face problems head-on.

    • None

Does it count that TMO does not do a good job of hyping products and generating excitement?  :)

      • Anonymous

I was thinking that when typing the hyping part.  :)

It gets them off the hook in not having to provide good customer service.
