T-Mobile To Introduce “Value, Classic” Plans, Replace Even More Plus

After doing a little teasing yesterday regarding T-Mobile’s plans to revamp their current rate plan selection (again) beginning in late July. We’re still compiling information which means all of this is subject to change but we’re pretty confident the end result will look similar. According to our ninjas T-Mobile plans to kill off their Even More Plus plans once and for all and introduce “Value” and “Classic” plans.  Value plans are very similar to EM+ but with more savings. The “Classic” plans will be what is currently available(Even More)  and we don’t expect any changes regarding those offerings.

So what are Value plans? According to our sources they are going to be very similar to Even More Plus plans with the biggest exception being they will now require contracts. T-Mobile will no longer have any non-contract offerings except for prepaid.

  • Value plans will be able to add unlimited text to family plans for $5 a line as no text bundles will be offered.
  • New data plan pricing for Value plans
    • 200MB for $5
    • 2GB for $10
    • 3GB for $15
    • 5GB for $25
    • 10GB for $55
    • No web features are required for value plans
  • Three new rate plan prices
    • 1000 Min for $49.99 with $5 add a line
    • 2000 Min for $59.99 with $5 add a line
    • Unlimited plan with $5 add a line for 500 minutes, $20 for unlimited
  • Value plans have 21 month Equipment Installment Plan for full price on equipment, the first month is paid up front.
  • Max EIP is $300 a line
  • Existing EIP plans cannot be cancelled, if you lose/break a phone have insurance
  • Two year contracts are REQUIRED
  • FIrst payment will be the same as traditional two year contract price on Classic plans
  • Migration fees from Classic to Value plans range from $0 to $200 depending on how far customer is in contract, out of contract has no migration fee
  • One a customer switches to value plan cannot go back to Classic Plan
  • Classic plans will no longer have Equipment Installment Options

I once again urge that this information is unconfirmed but we do know these plans are coming. There are obviously a lot of holes and gaps to fill in with this information and we’re working diligently to confirm and edit of all this.  So take this with a large grain of salt but as we are hearing lots of chatter regarding these new plans expect information to make its way out as we progress into July.

Is it just me – or has T-Mobile changed rate plans more in the last 3 years than any other cellular company?

True. I am confused with all these plan changes…

amen to that.  To me these new plans dont make any sense.  I mean we are the ones who will have to explain them to the customers.

Funny pic that you used David!  I am assuming that these new plans, will also only be 2GB of data (before throttle)?

Oh never mind, I re-read the rates. I was thinking the unlimited plan, which doesn’t seem to be listed. Sorry my bad – still funny pic! =o)

Keeping an eye on this… I’m not sure I’d be willing to downgrade my unlimited data, though in truth I use very little compared to most people. Of course all of this won’t matter once AT&T takes over.

Yess, I kind of like this. I can pick my own data. I want the 3 Gigs w/ at least 1500 whenever minutes w/ nights & weekends & unlimited mobile to mobile w/ texting. $60? That’d be really nice. I love that there is a in-between from 2GB-5GB because I’m somewhere in the middle. DANG at it being contract now. Big BLAH! I wanna be able to hit the ground running (straight to Sprint) if the AT&T buyout happens.lol

When I read the “classic” name, I thought they were going to bring back their old “Get More” rate plans. Only reason they keep changing their plans, is because people are just not seeing the old T-Mobile when it comes to voice and data plans. Not everyone wants to buy a phone for retail, even if you are paying with the EIP.

T-Mobile needs to bring back old plans.

  • Anonymous

One thing, at least to me, is if it still has a contact why would I have to pay a migration fee, which seems to be the same as an ETF.

  • http://twitter.com/PaulHarrisonPro Paul Harrison

Two year contract = no friggin’ way.

Sorry, the only justification for contracts is the whole “Need to get the subsidy back on the phone we sold you” thing. If you don’t subsidize the phone, you have no moral or business need to force contracts.

I really hope the smaller carriers are up with their LTE networks come the buyout. Rumors are that Sprint is switching to LTE – I hope that’s true, even if it may upset their existing customers. Otherwise it’s a choice between Verizon and MetroPCS… urgh.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HK7ALWU4PMZC7SUZ4NZLXDT6R4 Chad

So basically those of us on EM+ might as well just get a two-year contract EM plan since they are moving everyone to contractual plans. Not sure wht the savings will be for me personally but I’d would have to sit down and count up the cost.

  • http://cosmicbreeze.tumblr.com/ DtheArtist

So, let me get this right. I can get the 2000 minute plan for $59.99, $5 add a line gets me 500 minutes for the other line? or do I have to pay an additional $5 for that? & what’s the price of the unlimited plan, i’m confused.

What I want is 2000 minutes  ($59.99) for myself
    w/ $3GB’s ($15)
    w/ texting ($5)
    Subtotal: $80

    + my grandma a line ($5)
+ her $500 minutes ($? fill in the blank somebody please)

    Total $’s: ????????????????

    • Bimmerz

Not sure what the total is, as I am with you – it’s a little confusing!  But I will say this, I am SO glad that I am grandfathered in on my unlimited everything plan (throttled down after 5GB), at $85 per/mo. I’ll keep that plan for as long as I can (until AT&T tries to force me to change it – if the acquisition goes through, that is).

      • http://cosmicbreeze.tumblr.com/ DtheArtist

We had that, but cancelled because the total end up being too much, & we weren’t using all that. But……….. now we’re paying about the same anyways, lol.

Way I see it is 2000 for $50 and $5 for the 2nd line to join into those minutes

Unlimited with a 2nd line is 500 mins for $5 or $20 for unlimited as well.  Wake up D it’s in black and white! lol

If it is true/plausible that’s great. $85′s a month. My thing is… why does T-Mobile get SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better only when a “buyout” acquisition is in progress? Normally I wouldn’t mind the 2 year contract, but around now, eh…

      • http://cosmicbreeze.tumblr.com/ DtheArtist

According to PhoneDog the phone’s would be the subsidized cost that you would normally get on a normal contract “Classic” plan, you would pay the 1st installment up front & it would be spread across 21 months. So, I’m guessing for instance if somebody wanted a Sensation 4G, it would be $199 on the “Value” plan, so total would be $211.98, 21 installment of  $10 per month. Hmmm…

Yeah that’s the catch BUT what if you bought a phone off Craigs or carried over your old phone?  Then it’s immediately cheap as hell.  Also, if TMo was not going anywhere then it’s a crazy cheap plan to be on after two years.

I dunno why I’m defending this so tuff when I’m on a 23 month contract right now and can no way take advantage of it lol

Contracts?! really, I mean really… that just sucks!!!  I buy my own equipment, why do I need a stinking contract.

My plan is from a few years back. I usually hit around 4-6 GB per month. I don’t get throttled when I hit 2 GB if that’s what you’re asking. I have been with Tmo for a minute: 2 Nokia feature phones and a Cliq before the G2x. Been out of contract for a while.

Wait isn’t this much cheaper than the current contract free plans?  You still have to pay full price for the phone but much less up front and the cost of the plan is reduced.

I don’t pay much attention to non contracted stuff but is the only gripe the fact that you need to sign a contract? Regardless of cheaper plan?

After you pay off the phone and keep it passed the 2 years (this is of course if T-Mobile is still around) then you are left with extremely cheap data and $5 unlimited text??

    • Ziggy123

I was thinking the same thing.  You cant beat $5 for unlimited text and $5 for 200 MB of data (more than enough for checking email and my calendar on the road).

    • 21stNow

No, I don’t see how this is much cheaper.  The lowest voice minutes plan rises from $30 to $50.  The data is OK, but there is no text bundle yet for individual plans.  What do they expect individuals to do, pay per text?  I currently pay $60 for 500 minutes, unlimited data and unlimited text.  There is no combination of the above that will bring me to $60 for a similar amount of services.

Can someone answer this question, On the tmobile website when looking at your plan does it show the 2gb cap or does it show unlimited?

    • http://twitter.com/babydoll25 Babydoll25

It depends on your plan. I personally have the “old” “unlimited” for $24.99 (with a 5GB “cap” any overages  throttled). My plan shows unlimited for all my lines even though I’d be throttled after

5GB. That (semi)new unlimited comes with 2GB then you’re throttled. I would think it should show “unlimited” on your account, but………since I don’t have that plan……….I’m probably wrong.

We need fewer minutes!  Add a 200 minute tier to this offering for $20 or less, then I can see value!

Would love to know more about family plan pricing to replace EM+.  I really want to up my Internet a bit, but right now the option isn’t there on EM+ without  going up more than I want to. 2Gb for 10/month sounds good to me.  Yet another reason why i hope AT&T takeover doesn’t go through (We won’t pay AT&T a penny and will probably break contract if we have to, before the merger takes effect.

Big Banner over post topic advertising Metro PCS no-contract service is sheer irony.

Don’t know what you all are complaining about. $10 for a 2gb plan sounds much better than $25 for the current 2gb plan. The 5gb will also be lowered to $25.

I never cared for even more plans so this is a plus. And since I just extended my contract to get a Sensation, I will be moving over to this cheaper plan come July.

Its actually $20 for the 2GB though.  I switched to it recently and $10 does sound better.

So how much does an EM+ plan from within the last year for two people with around 1k minutes, unlim text, and unlim data 2GB or more?

    • Jaygqitalia

I pay 59.99 for my EM+ plan with unlimited everything, no contract

      • Anonymous

how is that possible? unlimited everything on EM+ is 79.99.  59.99 is 500min and unlimited text and data. I have the $69.99 EM+ with 1000m Unlimited text and data.

        • Anonymous

I pay the same as he does.  I lowered my bill by $10 on each account by going on the 2Gb data plan.

Where I was paying $70 before for unlimited everything, it’s now $60.  But add fees and taxes ($9 on each line) it goes to $70 OTD (out the door).

Right but you have the NEW  EM+ plan, so you only get 500min 2gb capped and throttled. Im sayin he doesnt have an EM+ plan with Unlimited EVERYTHING, for 59.99, it doesnt exist new or old…

        • Jaygqitalia

59.99 EM+ with unlimited everything ( 2gb then throttle obv ) lasted for 1 day 2 months ago .. Guess we were some of the lucky ones to get it. Before that i was paying 79.99 unlimited everything EM+ with no throttle.

Hey David, why don’t you address the death grip problem of the sensation as well as the lag and 4G and connectivity issues ? People aught to know!

    • liveTexas

Most modern smartphones have a ‘death grip’ to some degree (and very hard to accomplish on the S4G). The 4G issue is solved quite quickly with a short ‘code call’. The lag you Might experience is caused by TMo’s Bloatware. That’s it !

I just deathgripped my phone with a case on it.  NO loss in signal.  I also don’t have any kind of lag issue.  i did have a 2g connection issue but that was resolved following T-Mobile’s troubleshooting steps.  Why you be trollin?

If this is true, looks like my 5-line family member plan will have to be kicked off T-Mobile’s network when I refuse to sign a 2 year contract with them. And I just wasted my cash on an HTC Sensation that I paid full price for to AVOID the contract. They will miss this long-time, good standing, “VoiceStream” member..
