Requirements For Father’s Day Data Plan Promotion

With this Saturday approaching fast T-Mobile’s Father’s Day 2011 sale is ready to kickstart the weekend. However, as our ninja screenshot shows you existing customers should take note of the necessary qualifiers. Existing customers should be aware that in order to take advantage of this deal your contract will have to end on or before 12/18/2011 and that date may be different from your upgrade eligibility.

It’s unfortunate but for those of you who have changed to a new rate plan lately or accepted another promotional offer may want to check with T-mobile about qualifying for this Father’s Day special offer. I can’t imagine T-Mobile reviewing every account in order to ensure that there was less than 6 months on the contract but we thought you should know ahead of time, just in case.

Good grief, only Unlimited plans get this “awesome” deal?  What a waste!

  • Zoltan

Do the “Existing Customer” requirements mean that if you have a Grandfather Plan, that of course you want to keep, you must give it up in order to get the promotion?

    • Ron Dickerson

      read the screenshot.

    Wow! That blows!!!

More gimmicks. Not a winning strategy.

Kinda sucks that they put these requirements in for existing customers……this is a retention offer for existing customers (based on the requirements)…..I think that every current customer who is willing to extend their contract and add a data plan should be eligible for this…..However, I understand why they don’t want to offer this to anyone……Tmobile wants us to push this, but the majority of existing customers won’t qualify for it : /

So what if I am out of contract on both of our phones, and we are on the $90 Loyalty Family Plan?

Can we get this data deal, and new phones at the same time?  I am totally confused.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_P2CKCFCLDSN7MWHQL3LGWHMKBU Simona

You could take advantage of this deal by switching your plan up to the 99.99 plan (only $9.99 more) and add the $10 data plans and you would get the credit for internet. I belive the 89.99 unlimited loyalty plan only includes minutes and not unlimited texting, so for $10 unlimited texting for both phones is not bad.

  • http://twitter.com/archangel52005 Mike Box

I dont see any reason anyone should cash in on this deal. Required Unlimited minutes for family plan for an additional $20? Your only saving $120 on the data plan and they are asking you to spend $20. You might as well pay for the data plan yourself.

  • j-man

WOW!!! And I was starting to convince my mom in to this, being that she could get the cheapest internet, being that she hardly would need it only for when she is not at home. But never mind, you have to migrate to another plan, no thanks!  I would rather stay with our grandfathered plan.

  • Vinchenz

So if i took advantage of the Wal Mart scam and bought the Sensation on the 9th/ signed a new two year, i wonder if the can slip me into this since i’m still within the 14 day return policy??? I had been on a two term/4 years of the 49.99 1000 minutes unl nights/weekend back with the $99 sidekick 3…within a week of signing the contract they dropped it $10 to $39.99 and a phone call later the let me in on it saving me $10 a month for the last 4 years, any employees on here???

  • None

If I get Dad an iPhone for Fathers Day, where can i get the mini SIM cards (without cutting one).  I read on this site a long time ago that tmo was selling them but I called and they said they carry no such thing.

    • Meagan

Since you need a Tmo sim, best bet is to buy a sim card cutter online, or take the time to call all the independent mobile phone carriers in your city to see if they have the sim card cutter.  Expect a lot of wth is that questions…  Buying a $8 sim card cutter online, is probably worth your time in the long run.

  • Reggie

So basically they are saying “we’ll give you a little something (1/2 of the contract time’s data option) if you give up something a little bigger (your grandfathered plan) and sign a $1400+ two year binding financial contract that may be administered by a completely different corporate entity”.  In other words: “Are you a sucker and bad at math?”

T-Mobile must think we are all really, really dumb.  Fortunately for them, they are probably correct in many cases.

    • CRT24

Maybe you need to re-take math…..the new plans are less expensive than most grandfathered plans and by far less than ATT so you will be locked in to a lower rate even if it will be on ATT and when your contract is up you can change companies if you don’t like the offers at that time.

      • IdiotsAbound

Ah, so that’s why people are complaining… because this offer is a good deal for them.  I get it now, thanks for clarifying.

I think after you take a course in basic math, you might want to take another one in logic and another one in common sense.  If you do that, I’ll take one in not being a smartass.

      • Reggie

As I said, “they are probably correct in many cases”.

      • Yyevo

Yeah, you’re right. I’m paying soooo much more for my grandfathered $49.99 1000 min family plan with grandfathered data and text than I would for this. Let me go ahead and DOUBLE my monthly payment.

  • Anonymous

I don’t get why people with the loyalty plans are complaining. The new plans are less loyalty plan + text is 65 but the new talk text unlimited plan is 60. For family loyalty plan is 90 + 25 text, even add line is 40. New family plan is 99 talk text, add line is only 30. The old loyalty plans are no longer better.

    • Chris

I’m starting to notice this as well.  My loyalty plan is currently with unlimited minutes, texts and data (5GB) on one of my two lines.  With taxes I’m paying 130-something.  I’m shopping data for my other line and adding it takes me to $150 and the Family plan for $140 is basically the same as my 10+ year loyalty plan.

  • EricP

Thinking of signing up for a new family unlimited plan.  During the 2yr contract is it possible to downgrade from the $30 unlimited AAL to the $10 500min AAL?

    • Sunset_sweete06

Yes you can. There is a feature added to the account to give you unlimited minutes. If you don’t want unlimited minutes anymore, that feature is removed and you go back to 500 minutes for the $10/month.

      • Sunset_sweete06

This is how it is standard, I am not sure how it will be with the promotion. From what it reads, it looks like you have to stay on the unlimited minutes on the add a line in order to continue to get the $10 credit. After the year is over you should be able to go to the 500 minutes without an issue.

I am not going to stuck myself in a contract anymore and I will keep my $59.99 700min family plan with 5 myfaves. Yes, Google Voice is one of them so I get unlimited calling across US and Canada. I pay upfront for my phones because I work hard and I can afford it. So $400 HTC Sensation from craigslist here I come!

  • majentarulz

Switching to the new unlimited minute plan is a requirement because generally the new plans are a much better deal. In fact, you probably want to get locked in to a 2 year contract because at least that way you will have guarenteed awesome prices through that contract regardless of what happens with the AT&T merger. I have a bad feeling that if the merger goes through, everyone who is out of contract and on grandfathered plans will be required to switch to an AT&T plan. Everyone complains that data is so expensive and that prices in the industry are going way up. This is simply not the truth. Two years ago, unlimited talk, text, and data cost $129.99/mth. Now you can get the same thing for between $69.99 – $119.99 depending on the how much high speed data you want to subscribe to.

  • TmoNewClient

If you wanna take advantage of T-Mobile promotions then you have to think harder. You must be also willing to put in some work too. I recently got 2 brand new Galaxy S 4G for Free without extending my contact. It’s at least 600 saving.

  • Rob

Yeah, the new unlimited plans are a much worse deal than my grandfathered plan. I’m paying $70 for 700 shared minutes (more than enough) and unlimited text, with $20/line for unlimited data. I hope this isn’t a new thing where in order to get any kind of subsidized phone you have to “upgrade” to a more expensive plan.

    • Anonymous

This isn’t a new thing. It’s always been like this. They let you pay less for phone, but then you pay more per month.

      • Rob

I’ve been getting subsidized new phones every year for 6 years keeping the same plan. How is this not a new thing?

I’ve got the exact same plan plus $10 unltd family texting and I love it.  I really hope I get to keep it if the acquisition goes through.  And more importantly, after I’d be forced to get an AT&T phone.

  • Mark

Wife and I are looking to sign up w/ T-Mobile…tomorrow, in fact (off contract w/ Verizon as of today).  We don’t need unlimited minutes, so this deal just isn’t worth it…

  • Mrchrishill

I’ve been dying to buy the Sensation since earlier this week but my local t-mobile (memphis) tells me to wait until Saturday as they will have an unadvertised promotion helping with this phone.  They wouldn’t tell me what details, but as a 10+ year subscriber, they said it would be worth waiting for.

I asked if they are giving phones away, but they wouldn’t tell me.  Have you heard of anything it might be?

    • Esposadejeff

I spoke with a tmobile rep in store today. Basically you would save $10 a month from your monthly bill for one year. I don’t know if thats such a big deal or not. I want to buy the sensation also. The rep told me to come back tomorrow  buy the phone and change your plan.

      • zoltan

Of course, if you want to keep your grandfathered plan, you don’t get squat!  So much for promoting the existing loyal customer base.

      • YeahRRRight

And you did not get two 500.00 smartphones for free with no contract, unless by “luck” you mean you stole them… NO ONE in customer care, retail or customer loyalty is going to just hand ANYONE $1000.00 worth of phones without a contract.. that just does NOT happen… and since you aren’t giving any details and and are just throwing around silly mathematics with a ;), I would say that you are lying.

Well, it’s not easy to get 2 brand new galaxy S 4G for free. You need some luck for that also. However, in normal circumstances, you can get a brand new Galaxy S 4G for about $75 WITHOUT contract.

Let me take it back. After having breakfast and redo the calculation, this is the result: If you can have some luck, then you can have a Galaxy S 4G for FREE + saving about 100 cash to spend + WITHOUT ANY CONTRACT.

It looks like there is a sale event for Galaxy S 4G next week. That your chance !
