HTC Evo 3D Passes FCC With T-Mobile AWS Bands On Board?

The EVO 3D you might have been keeping an eye on as it made its way to Sprint might just be hitting Magenta as well. Of course an FCC passing doesn’t equal an actual carrier arrival but it certainly gives us reason to believe such a thing might happen. While the EVO line has been Sprint only thus far the EVO 3D on T-Mobile would mark a big break from a line of devices that have been Sprint only exclusives. The EVO 3D packs a 1.2 GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, Sense 3.0, 4.3″ stereoscopic 3D screen and T-Mobile’s HSPA+ 4G AWS bands. If this arrived on T-Mobile, would you consider it over the Sensation 4G? G2x?

So it’s a Sensation with a screen that hurts to look at? I’ll pass.

    • Anonymous

It does have a bit more ram than the sensation

      • Anonymous

        A bit more girth also.

        • Anonymous

not as much as you might think…and…..it’s weight surprised me by how light it was compared to how I expected it to be. The pictures it takes are simply awesome. And it’s fast.

Some may be right to wait for the Hercules, but I’m waiting to see what happens with this whole “Nexus Prime” ( Nexus 4G, whatever ) business. That, and I’m not that thrilled with this whole concept of throttling, giving you 2Gb of 4G data and then throttling down is ridiculolus, because in the mind of the consumer, it presumes that during the consumption of said “1st” 2Gb you’d be getting the “FULL” 4G experience, which as I’m sure MANY MANY customers would say…..they don’t ! I know of enough areas in SoFla alone where there are holes in HSPA+ coverage enough to house a small city, and since SoFla is a rather “mobile” place, I’d dare say that you’re as likely to get EDGE data transfer rates as you are HSPA+.

          I smell a class action lawsuit……Hmmmm.

        • Ash

You know you can pick 2, 3, 5 or 10GB/month, right?
And it’s better than paying extra $10/GB when you hit the hard cap with other carriers.

        • Ash

        • Anonymous

Of course you can pick it…..but the limits used to start at 5Gb before, and the price for this level has gone higher. My HSPA+ speeds on an N1 are NOT appreciably higher than they were before they “bumped” up the speeds. An N1 has an HSDPA speed rated at 7.2 Mbps, and even if you said you should only achieve 1/2 that….the speeds across MOST of SoFla nowhere NEAR approach that number.

Look, I’m not the only one to question the “umlimited” data plans that TMo is offering now, so get real.
The whole idea of throttling is ridiculous to begin with. What they should be doing is to charge more for speed. Quantity of data usage at this point, should be ubiquitous. There’s no real “lack” of spectrum or backhaul these days. It’s a myth, and it’s been debunked in several places, so don’t try to make it out as if TMo gives their customers “an out” to not pay “overage” charges.

        • Ash

I know, I don’t like it either, but it is still better than paying extra $10/GB or something like that.
And I’m gonna try to keep my $10/5GB/month as long as I can.

        • Anonymous

Dude….keep that data plan. I just had to switch to family plan now, from an “very old” loyalty plan, and my data went  from having a 5Gb cap to a 2Gb cap for the same price I was paying before….how do you think that feels ? It’s ridiculous. If TMo had HSPA+ coverage “guaranteed” for all of that 2Gb of data, then I could “sort of” accept that I might get throttled down to 30Kbps from ~1.5Mbps ( which is a composite average of MANY, MANY speedtests I’ve been recording since early 2010 when I got my N1 ). But I KNOW that there are too many holes in data coverage in SoFla to accept to get throttled forceably, when I KNOW that I may very well pop over to EDGE much of the time ( unless I want to risk not getting data at all, if I force the N1 to WCDMA-only ). The hand-off between towers is also ridiculous. I know TMo’s network so well down here I could almost quote GPS coordinate to where you’re liable to drop a call in mid-coversation.

And to those who’ve never been to SoFla, it’s not like we suffer “Coverage Canyons” down here like NYC. I dare say that NYC gets better coverage even with all those canyons, that we get in the “flats” of SoFla.
And for the record, Ft. Lauderdale/West Palm Beach get WAY better distributed coverage than Miami or other parts of SoFla do.

I’m pretty sure it says either “1st X amount of GBs at up to 4G speeds” or “1st X amount of GBs at full speeds”. “Full speeds” are the max possible to wherever you happen to be.

        • Anonymous

If “full speeds” where you are at 2G speeds ( which are still comprise ~28 percent of their overall nationwide coverage, it’s a pretty sleazy to tout “full speed” on “the nations largest 4G network”.

And better battery if u don’t use the 3d very often.

  • It would not be smart IMO to have the Evo 3D on T-Mobile when you already have the Sensation 4G, its almost the same phone.

  • Nope, played with the sprint version and I really found no use for the 3D, it was just really annoying to look at.  Also those circled capacitive buttons have to go.  Not a fan of the EVO line at all.

    • Anonymous

3D is just a big gimmick! I ended up picking up a Samsung Focus instead. I love it. Waiting til’ the “bugs” are out of the LG G2X, then i will get that too (for T-MO of course)

Does this mean a Sprint and T-Mobile merger????

    • Anonymous

      ugh…..

    • Flashy4bb

Funny. Sprint doesn’t care. All there want is a real competition. Tmobile can get whateverdevice they want.

  • Anonymous

I hope it does come to Tmo, the competion will drive the price of the sensation down even more.

Like it or not, the EVO has been a marketing success for Sprint. The name carries consumer recognition and at this point T-mobile needs all the recognition with consumers it can get before it fades away into obscurity.

      That seems actually quite possible.

  • Nvm I’m stupid. Yeah, I said Sprint probably owns the rights to the Evo brand, but if this was true HTC wouldn’t sell it as the Evo 3D in Europe.

Or maybe Sprint only has ownership of the brand here in the U.S.

768 is what the sensation runs and the difference in ram is the same with the 3d taking up all the extra ram

      • TweetMo

Still,if this came out when I bought the Sensation, I probably would have opted for the EVO 3D, mostly because of the physical camera button, & 3D of course! Though its camera is only 5mp…

      • Anonymous

Then don’t use 3D and you’ll have more ram plus a bigger battery.

        • Anonymous

Or just buy an Evo 3d battery and put it in the Sensation.

  • tecjunkie

EVO? Wow never would have thought. It’s nice to have a known name like that coming to At&t-mobile though. Sorry I had too :P No really I am not interested but I do like the addition. GJ TMO

the only thing I don’t like about my 4.3in love phone is when I push on her she hesitates to please me but when when she does she gets the job DONE!! I would have to check out the 3D in store first, might have to head over to sprint to check and see if the hesitation is there too???

Have 3D on my G-Slate, and gotta tell you… Its worthless. Never use it, take videos with it, just a “feature”.

Hope people don’t buy it just because it records 3D content and can play it…

  • 19fonzy

Its going to be called the The Sensation 3D

  • alt-mobile

Wait so by 3D does that mean that if I watch videos, like let’s say of T-Mobile (Hi Carly!), then will she be projecting from my phone on to my hand (or lap)? haha if that’s the case I’m sure PLENTY of guys (and gals, thanks NY!) will be getting it…

Be warned.  myTouch EVO 3D would drop the screen size to 3.7 so that they could slap the world’s largest logo on the front of it.

Battery isn’t better, it’s definitely a bigger battery but the phones 3D imagery requires it and it still has been the biggest gripe about it to date, along with it’s cheaper build than the Aluminum Unbody employed by the Sensation 4G.

Tie between the hercules and evo 3D

  • I would def get the EVO 3D. It has 4gb of internal storage, and 1 gb of RAM! Are you friggin kidding me!? I mean the sensation and the Evo 3d are pretty much neck and neck…but the sensation only packs 1gb of internal memory compared to 4gb of internal memory. And plus…i’m sure if we do get the EVO 3D…it will have an unlocked bootloader!! :)

    • Sumflipnol

I thought the EVO 3D has 1GB of internal storage?

Been a T-mo cust for about 8 years, and other then the Nexus One, the HTC Sensation was the only phone worhty enough to replace.  The EVO 3D in my opinion has looked outdated (Despite the specs), as it resembles last years clunky model.

I’m still destined to wait for the Samsung Galaxy S2 or Hercules–virtually the same thing, I guess.  I know Samsung’s support isn’t nearly as robust as HTC but I feel the need to try it given the months of hype I’ve endured.  HTC makes great phones but 3D is to gimmicky for me and I’m not otherwise impressed with the specs on this phone.

It’s run of the mill, as the current crop of dual-core smartphones go which makes me think even the Galaxy might be worth waiting for the Nexus Prime.

  • hell yeah, i would even consider it over the mytouch4g slide, and i really REALLY LOVE KEYBOARDS

    • Its not for MetroPCS but it could be for Canada because a MetroPCS model would have CDMA not GSM then a SIM for AWS type LTE.

  • Chris

    This is for europe.

    • TMOTECH

Well it is for Europe if it only has 2100 MHZ. if it has 1700MHZ as well then it is intended for the US. But not necessarily for T-Mobile. Metro PCS and Sprint both own AWS for LTE, and LTE takes a sim card. So lets not get too excited.

    • Thompc82

If its for Europe it doesn’t need FCC ..it’s a wasted step to go through the FCC of it isn’t being released in the states

ITS NOT GONNA HAPPEN PEOPLE. Just like when the Optimus 3d passed thru FCC, it had aws bands, but ATT got the 3d version, and tmobile got the more simple version with the G2x but much earlier.  The same goes here. The Evo 3d is pretty much a sensation with 3d and some bumped up specs.  So tmobile got a more simple version, the sensation, but much earlier.  I’m starting to see that the trend with tmobile is “lets get the simpler version of whats coming out even if its the stripped down phone.  thats always tmo’s problem. they have phones that are “almost perfect”.  and although a 3d feature may seem pointless, its a pretty cool feature to have more for the 3d recording.
