If they have “unused spectrum”, how why haven’t they already utilized it?

    • Create scarcity, false or not, and you can increase prices via supply and demand.

  • Anonymous

am i watching the wrong thing? they arent talking about the merger yet.

  • Liqwidzero

AT&T has also “carried the biggest” crock of crap and dealt it out to customers as if they believed it were gold.

  • I’ve never had a dropped call on T-Mobile..dropped an average of 3 a week when I had ATT.

  • Liqwidzero

“Lack of capacity to meet demand”Tell that to VZW and Sprint.

  • I have more family using ATT than tmobile because of the patchy signal, hell im using Big Red and their signal stinks here in South Texas, yet no one cares and just keeps on charging! it’s cool to pay almost 150 but not cool to get the cold shoulder if i want out of my contract!

Im here in San Antonio and I get Perfect signal with Tmobile. 2 years and have never dropped one call. And I have yet to find One spot where I dont get 4G. And most of the time Im getting 6-8 megs down. ATT does ok on calls. Its the Customer Service im worried about

  • Prices need to go down, i think we pay for a brand new cell every month yet when we have issues, they ignore you!

For the first time the CEO of TMobile is being honest saying that we are in serious trouble with our spectrum. Just a few months ago this same man said our spectrum was years ahead of AT&T, Verizon and Sprint. As an employee of TMobile I find this very concerning. What do we believe? Why the lies? If you remember TMONEWS posted the words of CEO of DT saying TMOBILE USA IS STRONG AND NOT FOR SALE. This is very concerning.

The bottom line here is that DT wants to unload TMO USA. Philipp Humm stated that TMO doesn’t have the resources to compete long term…..And DT will not invest in the US Market. Is it fair to prevent a contender from “bowing out” when they feel they can longer compete? This isn’t ancient Greece where Gladiators fight til the death. This is American business…..You can’t force a company to stay in the market if they don’t want to be in the market

    • Anonymous

That’s the VERY important other side of the argument, but there are other ways of dissolution than selling to the second largest, and THAT’S why anti-trust is so important.

  • Dear Larry Cohn,

How much did AT&T pay you?

LMFAO omg this made me die inside. PS as a tmo employee, at these meetings we had where we were told we are “The Challenger”, Neville himself said we had way more than enough spectrum to grow. And T-Mobile has plans for LTE built off after 2013, when they push HSPA as far as possible. WTF is Humm talking about? He seemed nervous cause hes a LIAR! worse CEO ive EVER worked for.

      • Anonymous

hspa+ can be expanded…..what he said was they do not have enough spectrum to build out lte while keeping hspa+ in place in the meantime

  • SabsWifey

They have called Humm out on a lie about spectrum! Lmaooo!

  • Anonymous

Exclusivity needs to end…..Dan Hesse mentioned buying power and device/service exclusivity…..All carriers should have access to everything. Wouldnt manufacturers/developers benefit if everyone buys your product or service? Rather than allowing one company to have exclusive access.

    • Carl

That’s how it is in Europe and it seems to be working really good!

  • jem

perhaps philipp humm’s intentions are for this acquisition to not get approved so at&t can pay t-mobile $3 billion so t-mobile can continue growing it’s spectrum.

    • don’t forget, as well as the money, if the merger gets denied T-Mobile gets some of AT&T’s spectrum as well.

      • Anonymous

But, if T-Mobile gets AT&T’s spectrum, will it be Cellular 850, 1900, or their AWS spectrum? Then AT&T will be crying louder that they don’t have enough spectrum

        • T Mofanatic

Some of their as-yet-unused AWS spectrum. It would be good for us, but we still wouldn’t be ready to deploy LTE. :(

  • Chris

Oh man!! “Will AT&T provide T-Mobile prices?!?” GAHHHH

  • Anonymous

Stephenson is a liar. He is avoiding the question on whether or not AT&T customers will be given T-Mobile’s pricing structures.

  • Yeah, and what happens to the T-Mobile plans when the contracts you buy from T-Mobile expire? Do we still get to keep those rates?

    • Anonymous

“If you wanted to keep T-Mobile’s pricing plans then you should have signed a Lifetime contract with T-Mobile” LOL jk

  • Anonymous

GO AMY KLOBUCHAR!!!! I can’t stand that woman on other issues but she’s diggin in her heels!

a bunch of liars both ATT and all the senators….This deal will probably happen because EVERY one of those senators sitting on this hearing have been bought by ATT… our politicians are for sale to the highest bidder…FACT!!

  • Cupcake

So if I get a phone greater than what I had with Tmobile, I lose my rate plan? What I’m hearing is that if I get a phone comparable then I keep my rate but if I upgrade to a higher end phone I have to change rate plans! WHAT BOLOGNIE!!!

  • Gigi needs to head the FCC

She put AT&T under the bus. She said AT&T has plenty of spectrum in 21 of the top markets, yet they haven’t fully used it. Plus they aren’t using it now properly.

      • she didn’t just throw Stephenson under the bus, hell she was at the wheel.

      • she didn’t just throw Stephenson under the bus, hell she was at the wheel.

She’d face the exact same push-back that the current head faces and that wouldn’t change anything. The House hates the FCC, in my opinion. They’ll hate it no matter who is in there unless the person is extremely hands-off.

As a T-Mobile customer, if AT&T guarantees no price pan changing (ha!) and we would get LTE, what is the downside? (I don’t favor the duopoly)

Please someone respond who knows the downsides to this.

    • He has said nothing about plan pricing out of contract, but has said that if you upgraded to a similiar handset nothing would change…of course that doesn’t mean if you upgraded to a higher end handset things would stay the same. Plus, I trust what comes out of his mouth as much as what comes out of a used car salesmans mouth, which is what he sounds like.

      • shadowscott

Didn’t he also say that they will not be offering T-Mobile customers money for new phones, saying that if I have a Sidekick 4G and I needed a new phone (not being able to use 3G or 4G) I would have to pay out of pocket?

    • On the pricing side:

AT&T has always been at a higher price point than
      @Tmobile:disqus
. If you can guarantee that you will never need to change your plan, then you’re right, there’s no downside to you because you’ll be grandfathered into the Tmobile plan. However, I can guarantee that ATT will not be selling 2 different 750minute calling plans. So as a customer who has changing needs in the future, there will be a less competitive advantage to this merger.

      On the handset side:

AT&T hasn’t been great for innovation, they have used their market power to lock up handsets to be only sold on AT&T (iphone). Reduced competition is not great for the consumer especially since you’ll need to get a new cell phone 2 years after the merger closes. If you don’t want to change cell phones, you’ll be stuck on 2G, no 3G, no 4G, no LTE.

      • shadowscott

I have the new Sidekick 4G. $30 for unlimited text and data, no voice. If AT&T could guarantee this, that would be great. But I can see how he would not uphold these policies.

        • I think this is a very short sighted view on your wireless needs. Over the last 10 years, I started with Tmobile on a 350min or 500min plan individual plan, then went to a family plan with 500mins with 2 lines, and now I’m at 1000mins with data with text with 5 lines, 2 of those being the at home lines Tmobile used to sell. And over that time, the prices have increased and I couldn’t get the new service with the older pricing points because the new plans weren’t available back then and I was upgrading to more services.

So as life changes, needs will change and choices will be limited from this merger.

  • I love how he avoids tough questions. SMH

  • Liqwidzero

AT&T states they want to go straight to LTE, not even stopping to state that they will probably run a lot of the nation on
    HSPA+
and not let anyone be any the wiser, marketing it as “4G”. (They can use existing infrastructure for this, I believe.)

    • Anonymous

      @LiqwidZero:disqus not going to happen

Franken should shut Stephenson down on the iPhone didn’t help growth comment. Was it their higher prices than the competition? Was it their lowest ranked customer service? What was the attraction that caused growth if not the iPhone?

    • T.MoFanatic

AT&T had the best network to offer to Apple, a new player to the cell phone game. That’s why they got the iPhone in the first place.

      • Anonymous

But, Sprint might be going with the data caps soon.

        • Anonymous

I don’t personally care about 6 gig data caps for 3G data, or even 4G. I can’t consume that much!

        • Look around, EVERYONE has data caps. No matter where you go.

      • Indeed, he has shown the most integrity of them all. If this gets approved they have my business.

        • yyevo

Amen. I just wish Sprint had 4g in my area… I mean state.

      • jay_max

If this merger goes through, I’ll be bolting for Sprint. Hell no to AT&T and Verizon. Why further enhance a duopoly?

        • Mopar6464

But if it goes through , it’s only a matter of time before Sprint will fail and get bought out probably by Verizon.

        • Anonymous

I don’t even want a damn mobile phone anymore. Just give me a 7″
tablet with a data plan. People can leave messages for me on Google
Voice if they need to reach me.

I am seriously considering the Evo View. But … IF T-Mobile offers
the Flyer I’ll sign a contract with them, then put up a FIT when the
merger goes through, keep the Flyer (as a wifi device), get out the of the contract, and move over to Sprint.

When it comes down to it, other carriers are useless without WiFi calling. Only T-Mobile offers that to me without having to buy a special device. That’s the REAL pain I’m gonna feel with this situation. That and free/included tethering, and truly unlimited plans (throttle me if I get above however many Gigs, I don’t even use that much).

My big question is of course going from the spectrum and competition and all that… but what about the T-Mo employees? That’s one thing I’d love to see them talking about. Is that even a major part of their plan? Or is it just going to be a big “Screw You”?

  • Jesus, Humm sounds like he was just literally caught in bed with Stephenson….wait….
…oooooh! I see. Humm needs to go back to DT.

  • I can’t believe Stephenson, I haven’t seen such blatant dishonesty since…well…since the last time I watched C–SPAN

  • I concur with Mr. Kohl, great points!

  • eYe

    Man…. Kohl is good!

  • hskrprd

Everyone is missing the point in my opinion. Do you all realize that we will be bought by sprint if the att merger is denied. T-Mobile is on its last legs and the only reason Sprint is fighting this is because they want to T-Mobile. So either way its moving from 4 to 3, I would much rather be with AT&T T-Mobile than Sprint / T-mobile.

    • I’ll take SprinT over AT&TT any day!

      • Mopar6464

        Not me, they blow.

    • You do realize that sprint was already in talks with T-Mobile about a merger over a year ago and backed out saying they weren’t interested. Right? Could it have been because Hesse actually believes competition is good? hmm?

    • Anonymous

Would rather be with sprint than att.

    • TMoFanatic

You are very correct, hskrprd. Sprint would be able to buy us for less than $39Billion, and the resulting merger and company would be much less enjoyable for current T-Mo customers.

one thing ATT has going for it here is that they dont market against tmo directly…..which helps the argument that ATT is trying to eliminating a comepetitor….TMO took shots at ATT bc they were trying to enlighten and steal customers from ATT. ATT does not need to steal customers from TMO however…….Little guy taking shots at the big guy…..On the surface atleast, ATT doesnt view TMO as a viable threat to their business

Well I’m actually one of those persons that want the merger to go tru maybe like that t-mobile will come to montana theres is no t-mobile over here at all u walk into montana and theres not 1 t-mobile store there’s only att, sprint and verizon stores people from other places that have t-mobile when they come to montana they roam on att i know cuz i seen it happen with my sister that lives in La and has t-mobile i know some of u people will probably be all like nobody cares bout Montana and all but hey I want some of those t-mobile cheap prices I seen them online and they sound really good. I have at&t which is the best over here has coverage all tru montana but the plans are super expensive. I’m.hoping that if the merger goes tru maybe I dnt know know I’m crossing my fingers that maybe att will get some of those cheap t-mobile plans. I wudnt mind if I had to buy a new phone as long as I pay t-mobile prices. But sadly most likely that wont happen.. most likely they will make their prices more higher ..

    • Anonymous

“Can ATT customers take advantage of TMO pricing?” “If ATT customers wanted those cheap T-Mobile rates then they’ve been available to them for quite some time now”

Don’t get your hopes up about ATT becoming cheap anytime soon. They have to spend around $50B in the next few years or so so I can’t imagine prices dropping from this merger. They will allow us TMO ppl to use our plans for the duration of our contract and then if want to make a change then things may or may not change for you.

      • i would have followed up by asking if a customer wanted an iphone before this year, would they have been able to get one on t-mobile’s price structure without potentially damaging their phones because at&t and apple refuse to unlock them? i also would have asked how much advertising nationally has t-mobile done versus at&t. people won’t go to the competitor if people don’t know the competitor exists.

if people were aware of t-mobile’s rates for as long as at&t has been advertising nationally i’m fairly certain more people would have gone in that direction.

“AT&T has proposed a major rate increase, known as “broadband caps,”
on high-volume video distribution targeting initially heavy movie users.
This sets the stage for a two-tier pricing model that could effectively
end net neutrality. The full effect of these and many other actions by
the trust, working through “captured” FCC and state public utilities
commissions (PUCs), will be the erosion of Universal Service, further
    harming those most vulnerable.”

Those of you who want the merger to go through do not realize that at&t will charge you an arm and a leg for something other countries get for free (AKA Tethering) and you will not even realize it, you might even welcome it as if its something innovating. They will give you less and charge you MORE, yes its LTE, but those who want LTE service will be paying premiums and getting capped, and then being charged even higher premiums per gb.

FUCK AT&T I will never give them my business, EVER, I will jump ship. This is going to affect EVERYONE. I was even at one point thinking about jumping ship from time warner (thieves and liars) to u-verse, but then they started capping broadband!! (see above) I can’t believe how greedy they are, someone has to stop them. god I wish we had verizon fios where i live, but sadly time warner cable owns my town, and they do everything they can to stop competition, disgusting. This is what America has become.

Personally I don’t care if T-Mobile never goes LTE. I think there’s room in the market for a lower-cost, medium-speed carrier.

isn’t that the problem when tmobile was late in brining 3g to consumer? They really need to step up on their game and be aggressive if they want to improve their company.
