I can’t say we didn’t totally see this coming but as it turns out, T-Mobile did answer the question internally as to what happens to the T-Mobile jingle post AT&T acquisition. Well the Jingle is a Deutsche Telekom owned trademark and as such wouldn’t carry over to AT&T after the conclusion of the deal. Sad faces all around.

Happy Friday!

Maybe they could make a new jingle that mixes both companies together. a remix!

    • http://twitter.com/carcomptoy Jeremiah

As much as I would love to see the T-Mobile brand soldier on, that would make absolutely no sense.   AT&T will be buying T-Mobile outright and subsume all its customers, making them AT&T customers.  We’ll get stuck with the old Cingular jingle.

If the companies were merging, making a mashup would make sense, but contrary to what everyone in the media keeps saying, this is not a merger by any means.

      • French

Plus, T-Mobile still exists as a brand elsewhere in the world and if I were a high level marketing exec. at DT, I wouldn’t want my brand being mashed up with another brand, especially AT&T, which is a competitor of DT for certain products in many European markets.

Nowhere in there did it for sure say it would go away. It just says “No decisions have been made at this point regarding the future of the jingle in the U.S.” So therefore this article is just speculation. Get it right guys.

Is there some reason DT couldn’t sell or license the trademark to T-Mobile? And why do so many commenters think that talking about the post-merger state means that the merger magically occurred months early? Am I the one living in crazy town?

    • French

You aren’t crazy, people are just curious. DT can license its trademarks to AT&T, or not depending on what the two companies negotiate as part of the deal.

Hope springs eternal huh?  People, face it.  Everything TMO will be absorbed and disappear.
Existing contracts and crap will be honored, but slowly but surely, TMO will vanish and disappear.  You guys see any Cingular logos or jingles or anything around???

  • TMoFan

When I heard the news of this sellout I changed my ringer to the T-Mobile jingle and haven’t changed it since. I’ll keep it after the takeover too since at&t will take T-Mobile and gut it. The jingle will remind me of happier times. Assiming this thing goes through of course. I’ll take the jingle over a stupid blue ball any day!

TMO is history, one way or another, no matter what happens with this merger! The t jingle will live on forever on the net for everyone to use.

Im more worried about, what will happen to the T-Mobile chick “Carly”??? That’s their bread and butter!!

    • AdrianMT4G

She’s gonna be unemployed just like the rest of T-Mo employees. Sighs…

  • Dom

I am just hoping deal falls through and somehow google decides to take over T-Mo since they actually wanted a wireless phone company!

I cant believe someone asked about the jingle. Lol

I want the T-Mobile Jingle in AT&T too is the legend

Macho Man Randy Savage passes at 58 today, lots of fools out there think tomorrow is the end of the world, i have a headache, apparently hell doesn’t freeze over cause its too hot, t-mobile jingle isn’t carrying over…what next?!?! Lmao…yea really…Happy Friday!!

  • MIKEEEEE

if they don’t improve data coverage and bandwidth around here, mikeeeee aint carrying over either.

    • AdrianMT4G

       I know thats right!

    • Fray Contreras

ATT has better coverage than t-mobile. I used to have t-mobile for a year and they freaking horrible. plus im in nyc. I have no issues with att wa so ever. plus their 4G LTE is gonna be so fast as well.

      • MIKEEEEE

@fray, look up zipcode 38221 on att’s data coverage map.
        @Freddy2Fred:disqus
in my home i speedtest 1.8 megs down on t-mo wifi to my DEFY, outside i do 68k roaming on att’s edge network.

the nearest 3g for me is like you going out on the island to hicksville. let alone 4g.

        • Fray Contreras

Dam that sucks for you buddy… Im pretty sure they gonna do something about that area. I get 5 MB and some change and almost 2 mb for upload…

        • Vic34

Wow at&t actually works in ur area? U lucky i have at&t and live in los Angeles right in da city and dnt even get 1mbps up and down on my atrix when I’m standing outside with full reception a d a H+ icon T-Mobile is da same crappy so there’s no point in switching . My friend on Verizon over here gets 15 mbps down and 15 mbps up on her Droid charge. I kinda wanna switch to get those speeds on Verizon. 4g but idk Verizon is too fkin expensive.

        • Fray Contreras

Well. Verizon has pretty much the same prices as AT&T. And remember AT&T is pretty congested in California.. So that might be the reason. NY is one of them as well and I live in the city.. But if u had the iPhone, you’ll take the advantage of higher speed similar to mines. In the ATT 4G coverage map, it shows that they rolled out the HSPA+ with enhance backhoul. So you should be getting faster speed then what your getting now cuz they just rolled out here in NYC. Maybe thats the reason why im getting faster speed and im using the Samsung Focus. But 4G LTE is about to be released in July for California and NYC for next month.. So just wait.. Plus is gonna be faster than Verizon.

        • Whitegurl77

I kno I live in California in La and I can’t wait for at&t Lte! !! Yeya!!! Ima be getting the htc holiday which supports atts new Lte network. <3 seriously I can't wait <3 screw T-Mobile and Verizon at&t here I come!

        • Fray Contreras

Thats right!!! You already know! AT&T! All the way!

        • Whitegurl77

Hellz yea at&t all day way <33

        • http://twitter.com/iGNetworks iGNetworks

AT&T is only releasing HSPA 14.4 & not LTE yet till around the end of this year. It won’t be faster than Verizon for some odd reason AT&T warehouses way too much spectrum. Faster speeds come from a range of 850MHz activation over 3G, Wi-Fi alternative & HSPA 14.4 in your area. I’m expecting AT&T’s LTE to be around 2x-2.5x slower. So lets see how this works out.

        • Fray Contreras

According to them they gonna flp the switch for LTE in NYC next month. But we see what happens.

        • http://twitter.com/iGNetworks iGNetworks

Once they flip the switch i’d expect about a month or 2 till its in full production.

        • http://twitter.com/iGNetworks iGNetworks

Yea I know Verizon LTE is very fast compared to any network where its rolled out. AT&T has kinda gotten cheaper in means. You only save a few dollars as of 5/21/2011 and get a lil more. But Verizon is too expensive.

        • MIKEEEEE

@FRAY, you also got that big white castle on the corner of bruckner and rosedale ;-).

        • http://twitter.com/iGNetworks iGNetworks

How often are you doing speedtests? Are you inside or outside? Whats the reception level? Zip code around the area?

Some reason I find that you get perfect AT&T service in NYC impossible. Due to the fact that it is soo congested there. I am wondering if you are connecting to their Wi-Fi special service and don’t know about it. They do have that in NYC where you wouldn’t even know its connected to offload the overload on its mobile networks. 5Mbps/2Mbps sounds right for a good HSPA 14.4 connection. But you never have dropped a call? No delayed text messages ever?

I live in a 2nd level market. AT&T is the worst provider to have here. No matter if its indoors/outdoors the reception is terrible. You will go w/o service for 20 minutes at a time. I am in Illinois. They originated here around my city. The population is a bit over 150,000. Sprint performs a bit better but its not that great either. T-Mobile has been going downhill lately nationwide so I can’t say the signal is anything close to Verizon’s any longer. But Verizon/US Cellular are the best in this area.

You shouldn’t want this buyout. You do know you are getting 33.6 Million subscribers thrown onto the network with the 97.5 Million AT&T has? It will make things worse for some of the networks. Using AWS 1700/2100 to buildout an LTE network will cause some signal loss due to the fact the frequencies are higher than the actual 700. Most T-Mobile 3G areas suffer from a signal loss. I have poor 3G signal because of this high frequency in use. It will cause the service you have now to become intermittent once everyone joins it as LTE but its already intermittent over HSPA+ 21/42. But T-Mobile has NO 850MHz. So an additional 33.6 Million would join it causing issues since it can be 0% expanded (Doesn’t include spectrum efficiency). T-Mobiles 1900MHz won’t help much with the added capacity your looking at less than 10% increase for AT&T Customers and a decrease of nearly 3x for T-Mobile subscribers since they are meeting 97.5 Million.

Companies like Vodafone and Google should have the opportunity to purchase T-Mobile.

        • Fray Contreras

I live Bronx, NY. Thats in NYC. Zip is 10453. I use the Samsung Focus. I do speed test pretty much all the time. Last time I did it is when I finish reading your post. Now my speed is 5.26 Mbps down and 1.16 Mbps upload. You can get an iPhone and it will take the advantage of ATT 3G speed cuz I just tested on my friends phone 3 times its usually high at 5 mbps… It looks like it depends on the spectrum where you live cuz its really not the same since we are in a bigger city… The Wifi connections is in Midtown Manhattan NY which is more worse. Im up in the bronx which is still part of the city. When I do go down to Manhattan the speed goes down to 2-3 Mbps… The same thing with T-Mobile but up in the bronx is higher around 4-5 Mbps cuz I tested using the T-Moble G2X which s my moms friends phone which she got recently. Most new T-Mobile phones are gonna start coming out with Dual bands which supports ATT anod T-Mobile like some new phone that they have now plus future ones. Now I believe with the merger it will make a better network cuz of more spectrum. I mean like I said earlier… New phones will support this new frequency… Probably in the future they might gve T-Mobile customers a nice discount to switch to new att phones just to be fair. Thats at least they can do. About the LTE you might be right… It might be little slower due to spectrum but recently they made a test and said that we gonna end up using theere decent speed which is 28.8 Mbps. Now I aint gonna go crazy about that for now but we see what happens. And yes Google would be great by purchasing T-Moble but it looks like T-Mobile and ATT wanna merge and it can happen. I aint gonna be surprised if it does go through.

        • http://twitter.com/iGNetworks iGNetworks

Yes but that doesn’t make things better for T-Mobile subscribers. It will just make things a bit better for AT&T subscribers over 1900 2G while worse over 850 3G/850 2G/1900 3G.

Well the companies are still competitors so the AWS/PCS dual-band 3G radios won’t probably happen. Instead you’d probably see later on AWS radios once again for the US but for LTE dual-radio. I don’t think either company wants to make a dual-radio on 3G even tho it sounds like a good idea.

I can get 8-9Mbps/3-4Mbps on a myTouch 4G. However, it depends on where i’m standing exactly.

It would make certain parts better while other parts of the network will get worse. In the end its not much of a better network and it won’t take that long for the network to go back to where it was.

You’ll probably 20Mbp speeds somewhere in there. Verizon is like 20-35Mbps. There was only 1 user on that test and it wasn’t a fully built out network. Once its in productive form things will change.

But this merger in the end creates a monopoly and I don’t want to see AT&T be king once again. Besides I don’t want to pay higher prices for service. I have a carrier of my own in planning for the future it will be one of those National/International carriers that has coverage all over the world.

        • jcj1969

I get 3MB down and 1 up on my Vibrant and it is only 3G. So your speeds for 4G are not so good. I had ATT and their  customer service  sucked! Placed on hold for what seemed like days and never did get a result, end result, now a t-mobile  customer for years and never an issue at all!

        • Fray Contreras

Well… I never had an issue with ATT… Plus my speed is faster than the speed that you post it. Plus thats not 4G. Its 3G like yours. My phone is hspa 7.2… so for that type of speed 5mb almost 6 mbps is pretty freaking good. So I dont know what ur talkin about buddy. T-Mobile service is a piece of trash. I see it all the time with couple of my friends phone lol.

  • Anonymous

Nothing is gonna carry over.  Not the low prices.  Not the good, actually great, customer service.  Nothing.

  • mikeyo

Dont worry guys the hostile takeover err…I mean merger will not happen so rest easy guys.

    • French

AT&T and Deutsche Telekom will do whatever it takes or whatever the government requires to complete the merger. Deutsche Telekom wants out of its commitment to the US mobile market, period. Even before the merger DT stated that TMo USA had to support all of its operations and network upgrades via cash flow, which is an impossibility, especially with TMo USA’s rapidly declining subscriber numbers.

It is unlikely that the merger will be approved without divestitures, but the bulk of the markets, customers and bandwidth will become AT&T assets one way or another. It’s not a matter of “If” the purchase will be approved, its a matter of “under what conditions” the purchase will be approved.

    • Fray Contreras

      YES IT WILL!

    • Sapphire3g

This is not a merger.  T-Mobile is being acquired by At&t.  Substitute swallowed for acquired to get a better understanding.
