T-Mobile Announces HTC Sensation, 4.3″ Of Android Greatness

Boom, here’s the best T-Mobile news we’ve heard in quite some time as they formally announce the exclusive arrival of the HTC Sensation this summer. Better known to most of us as the HTC Pyramid the Sensation received its official unveiling courtesy of HTC this morning at a special event held in London.

The specs are right in line with rumors that began back in early February with a 1.2 Ghz dual-core processor, 4.3″ qHD screen (540×960 pixels), full HD video in 1080p resolution, 8 megapixel camera and it’s all running on T-Mobile’s 4G network.

Along with the above specs the Sensation will also bring about a new HTC Sense experience that has a customizable active lockscreen transforming the lockscreen into a “real-time” windows displaying your important content. Along with sharper graphics, vibrant animations and new widgets HTC Sense will be better than ever.

There you have it, the Sensation comes this summer. Sensational!

Full Press Release:

HTC today announced its next T-Mobile exclusive phone, the HTC Sensation 4G. Coming this Summer, the HTC Sensation 4G will be T-Mobile’s most powerful handset.

You don’t like to wait forever for content to load and now you don’t have to. With a 1.2 Ghz dual core Snapdragon 2 processor running on America’s Largest 4G Network, the HTC Sensation 4G delivers all the entertainment you can handle.  Web pages delivered in the snap of a finger.  Watch videos now, not in five minutes.  Video games outside in the sun?  No problem with T-Mobile’s largest, most high resolution screen, a 4.3” qHD touch screen (540×960 pixels).

HTC Innovation
HTC devices have become synonymous with innovation. The HTC Sensation 4G builds upon that reputation with the introduction of a new version of HTC Sense, technology that enhances the user experience, and a new premium design.

HTC Sense
The latest HTC Sense experience boasts a host of new features and enhancements, helping people to have more fun and get more done. New experiences include:

  • A customizable active lockscreen experience that transforms the lockscreen into a real-time window to the most important information and content.  Social updates, photos, weather or stock updates can be viewed by simply waking up the display.
  • Sharper graphics, vibrant animations and new widgets make HTC Sense look better than ever.
  • A more cinematic and immersive weather experience with stunning imagery and audible weather effects.

HTC Sense also makes it easy to have fun by enabling people to capture and share special moments. The HTC Sensation 4G’s 8-megapixel camera doesn’t just shoot gorgeous photos but, with the new instant capture feature, let’s people capture the moments they want without worrying about missing or keeping up with the action. The HTC Sensation 4G also shoots full HD video in 1080p resolution, with full stereo sound, at up to 30 frames a second, giving the user smooth video that is better than many other phones.  With the new Video Trimmer tool, people can crop their clips to the perfect size for easy sharing with friends and family.

Premium Design and Materials
Tapping into HTC’s trademark design, the HTC Sensation 4G’s premium look and feel is enhanced by its rounded edges, aluminum unibody construction and the touch screen surface protected by a contoured screen that feels more natural as a finger is glided across it. The 4.3-inch qHD display delivers high-resolution widescreen viewing and gives the HTC Sensation 4G slender proportions that feel natural in a person’s hand.

Keep an eye out for additional information about the HTC Sensation 4G to be announced over the coming months.

    Can’t wait

    • J-Hop2o6

Same here, even tho I like my G2 using CM7.. But finally Tmo gets a normal HTC Sense phone, AND its the most current version.. but if I get this phone , imma have to get used to not having a keyboard =(

      • J-Hop2o6

Also, I wonder if it’ll have AT&T 3G bands, just in case that horrible aquisition goes thru, smh.. and hopefully Tmo gives it a better name, sounds weird like myTouch, but w/e.

        • Anonymous

It doesn’t but the G2X does.

        • J-Hop2o6

=( damn.. well hopefully the deal gets shot down by the DOJ, FCC, & FTC.

        • Anonymous

Actually I thought I saw on another blog site this morning that it will be a quad band gsm phone. Wouldn’t that mean it has Tmo and ATT bands?

  • David B.

    =) BEST PHONE YET.

  • Dlarsen63

Yes hope we have a contest to win one!!! Been waiting on this since I first heard the rumors!

  • TBN27

Looks like the Thunderbolt met its match?

  • Dreamexecution

looks great, looks like my next phone

  • Anonymous

Wow. Glad to see tmo get out ahead this my making it official. I read that it will be exclusive to tmobile, but I also read sprint is getting a new evo that’s pretty much the same thing. Can anyone clarify?

    • Anonymous

I’m guessing its the Evo 3D

      • Anonymous

Yeah. I heard sprint is getting that soon. I guess since tmo isn’t bastardizing the phone, they can say they’re the exclusive us carrier over sprint.

    • What_Up

Sprint is getting the evo 3d it has the Same Chipset as T-Mobile’s Sensation 4G but the Evo has 5 Mega Pixel dual camera’s that shoot in 3D, Sensation has an 8 Mega pixel camera with the New Instant shot technology. Evo 3D shoots 1080p @ 24 frames per second while Sensation shoots 1080p @ 30 Frames Per Second. The Evo 3D has a Glasses free 3D S-LCD display, Sensation has a curved S-LCD display. Both qHD. Thats pretty much the main differences outside of also having different radio’s CDMA/GSM.

  • Anonymous

I’ve been on this site long enough to know what will be coming next *insert complaints about this phone here*….T-Mobile is really on a roll, now the real question about this phone will be. Is this getting the myTouch branding or will it be straight sense?

    • Anonymous

Doubtful….It seems like they’re gonna stick with the htc name. Just like they did with the galaxy s 4g…smart move by tmobile. Perception is reality. Why change the name and confuse consumers. Keep it simple. Hopefully it’ll rock stock sense and not that bland looking expresso crap…..this is an exciting time!

      • Anonymous

Really, having owned a MT4G and messed around with an Inspire 4G, I vastly prefer Espresso Sense to standard Sense. The Sense dock is just terrible. I need my app drawer in the center. And that personalize button is a useless waste of space. Do I really need three separate ways to get to one menu that I may use twice a month? No. Either way, I’d just put my ADW EX over it right away.

    • Anonymous

Considering that this is pretty much what we have all been “complaining” about for the past year, I doubt you will see too many of those posts. Also, considering that we have been “complaining” for a phone like this for the past year and Tmobile HAS NOT HAD ANYTHING LIKE THIS, I fail to see how any of them weren’t justified.

/Oh that’s right. You’re a cell phone company apologist (or employee). REAL COOL!

      • Anonymous

Naw neither bro I’m just being real. Besides I’ve already seen the complaints about the phone weeks ago and it was just officially announced about 20 minutes ago. Like I always said some complaints about tmo are justified and some aren’t, I don’t make excuses for anyone, I call a spade a spade.

      • Aerofanbig

Haha people will bitch. Its techie nature, now the big bitch is going to be the screen and OMGZ wait until the GS2 comes out its gonna make this look like a kids toy blah blah blah. No one can be happy, already seeing complaints and its 20 minutes old (announcement at least)

        • Anonymous

My point exactly, if a phone isn’t for you, then its not for you don’t knock it. I’m gonna wait to see if we get the GS2 then I’ll make my decision.

    • Anonymous

I dunno I think the complaints will be few and far between this time. I’m picky and the only thing That would stop me from buying this phone is the screen contrast. Assuming our version is SLCD as well, it may be great all around.

      • Anonymous

Yea I hear you on that, if we get the G2S I gotta wait to see what the samoled plus looks like.

      • Anonymous

I also hope this comes with a better external speaker than the MT4G and many other HTC devices that are lacking in that department. Even if I’m not going to use it to play music sitting on my desk, I’d at least prefer my ringtone music didn’t sound like it’s coming from a tin can with a string attached.

    • HTC_Rules

T-mobile isn’t changing the phone, it is going to keep it as is because rebranding it Mytouch would cost too much money, plus that means it would not come out in june cause HTC would have to make Mysense for it. Nope T-Mobile is doing the smart thing and keeping the phone the same, only adding the t-mobile logo to it and I’d bet they would put Wi-fi Calling & My Account on there plus a Free Game and Movie since that has been their deal with high end phones. I for one can’t wait I want this phone bad, I dont care about Merger’s which I pray don’t get approved… no This Phone is Pure AWESOME

      • Anonymous

If that’s the case they really seem to be making all the right moves.

  • Anonymous

this is way better than the tbolt….I still don’t understand all the hype about the tbolt…its essentially a mytouch 4g with a bigger screen

    • whosaidwhat

There’s only one special thing about the thunderbolt, which happens to be the speed of the LTE network. Getting 12mbps on a cell phone is mind boggling if you ask me.

I don’t get 4G in my area so this phone is PERFECT for me.

  • Anonymous

The fight of the spring 4G phones. Just like last year we had the G2 vs mytouch4G. We have the G2X VS THE senensation.

Also tmobile has the best overall line up of phones.

    G2
    Optimus T
    Defy
    Comet
    Mytouch 3G slide
    Sidekick 4G
    Galaxy S 4G
    HD7
    Sensation
    G2X
    Anything else I’m missing

      • Aerofanbig

Nexus isn’t technically a Tmo phone its Google’s phone, which will be available on Sprint in a few days, supposedly AT&T in a few months and possibly Verizon at the same time. But I guess for now you can still include it in the list

As much as I like HTC, not as good as Samsung I guess. How would this be better than Samsung Galaxy S2?? Any thoughts ??.

Main concern is the screen, I wasn’t impressed with Mytouch 4G screen. Also the weight. I was all set on SGS S2 but might have another thought.

I’m with you on the screen stuff. I REALLY hope that we find out about a T-Mobile SGS2 before this phone comes out because while this phone is near perfect, the SGS2 IS perfect, to me.

      • Anonymous

Either way, it looks like it’s going to be hard to go wrong if you’ve got an upgrade coming in a month or two.

        • Anonymous

Which I do! Couldn’t be better timing either.

    • DrT

It seems everyone is getting in the game right now. I won’t be surprised if Samsung announces a release date for the SGS2 in the next two weeks to stay relevant. Good times for tmobile :)

      • Anonymous

        Thats my exact expectations.

    • ColdFeet

How is it better than the Samsung Galaxy S2? Simple answer… it’s not made by Samsung. I love my Vibrant but damn, it’s got a ton of bugs. Especially after the 2.2 update. It’ll be awhile before I give them another chance.

I am (im)patiently waiting for this HTC to come out so I can snag one up and retire the ol’ Vibrant.

T-Mobile finally has their 4.3″ HTC phone. It’s about time.. talk about being way better than the Thunderbolt and Inspire. I’ll even go so far as to say it’s better than the Evo 3D because it doesn’t have all of that 3D crap.

    • Anonymous

Funny how we just disregard the HD7. I’ll admit I do! This was a loooong time coming!

      • Anonymous

Well, 4.3″ HTC Android phone and their first Sense UI phone that doesn’t run Espresso.

        • Anonymous

          espresso *shudder* gross……

    • TMobile_Rules

I have to agree with you I was put off by the Evo 3D I mean it was bulky looking and I loathe the look of the camera, I mean 3D can be nice if your into it but I for one prefer a regular S-LCD screen and the 8 Mega Pixel camera on this phone. the only bad thing…is waiting lol

it is free for the angry tmoble customers with a 50 dollar unlimited everything no contract

The cycle never ends my friend…..Even the Pyramid will be over shadowed by something else in a matter of months…You just gotta dive in and be content for a bit

    • Aerofanbig

Save up some money, sell your G2 on craigslist or ebay for 300-ish, take that cash and you’ll only have to pay like 150-200$ for this phone just like it was another upgrade

  • Guest

Don’t care how awesome the specs are, I care about whether or not the bootloader is unlockable. It’s about time that TMo gets a good big screen phone!

  • Anonymous

I already had my money and heart set on buying the LG G2X…now what? -_-

    • Mrosswilson

I bet life will go on

Really? I thought the announcement of this phone, meant the apocalypse :(.

  • http://twitter.com/xAndr00 Andrew

Let’s wait to see if it can be rooted. G2X already can apparently so that would be my only setback on getting this device. WE NEED ROOT.

    • Roman

Root is almost never the problem, Will the bootloader be unlockable is the better question. That is what stood in the way for about a month when the G2 was released.

  • msprinkl

Cool! LED Notification light??? Huh, does it? Huh? Don’t most HTC’s?

    • J-Hop2o6

Should be in the ear speaker grill like all HTC phones.. dont worry.

FINALLY!!! now I can put my mytouch3g to rest. tmo better not f%#k this up. it felt like an eternity waiting for tmo to get a high end htc android phone with a 4.3 screen and the real htc sense on it and not that espresso bull$#!t. look like i wont be leaving tmo after my contract expire in august.

Thunderbolt, Inspire and all the other phones on the market=Monica Bellucci in Irreversible.
Sensation= Guy in the hallway scene behind Monica Bellucci

Finally! The G2X is by no means a bad phone, but this is finally a true, top dog, 4’3″ Android phone that doesn’t take second place to anything else.

Now if we could only punk AT&T for the cash, spectrum and roaming, I am throwing a party!!!!!!!

    • http://twitter.com/HuRa HuRa

Aw man, that was rough but I lol’ed. Awesome movie.

    • Anonymous

whoops sorry i though you were referring to the g2x as the 4.3 incher

  • Toeshot

If Samsung doesn’t change the design of the Samsung Galaxy S II, that phone will be better suited for the business end user. as it will house a hardware encryption component, enterprise app management, better exchange integration, just to name a few. It is suppose to release in May over seas. I will wait to see what that brings to the table.

  • Andy

By 4g do they mean this phone will be running the 42mbps?

    • Anonymous

That would be awesome. I’m sure we’ll find out real soon though.

      • Andy

I think that would make sense since they have already launced 42mbps in some citys. It would be sad if they did not equip this phone with 42mbps

    • whosaidwhat

      14mbps according to engadget.

      • Anonymous

        Thats for the Euro/Asia version.

Wow! It is quite nice to be in a situation where I can’t decide which REALLY nice TMO phone to get! I am out of contract, (have been since November), waiting on a GREAT phone and have been leaning towards the G2X but now….I wonder WHEN this summer we will get this phone!

    • Anonymous

It’s availible in Europe mid May so I’m still expecting it late May early June like it was origionally rumored to be.

  • Jen F.

Am I the only one disappointed that it doesn’t have the capacitive joystick thingy that the myTouch G4 has? The addition of that would make the phone near perfect in my eyes.

    • Lol

      Yes.

    • Anonymous

Thanks for proving a woman’s orgasm is a myth.

  • Mopar6464

Wonder if this will have AT&T 3g radio in it as well.

  • Bimmerz

WTG T-Mobile! I’ll be curious if it supports the 21 or 42 speeds, as well as if it will work on AT&T. It really sux that we even have to take that into consideration! For the love of the Mobile Gods, please don’t let this acquisition go through!

    • Anonymous

      14mbps sadly

      • Bimmerz

I thought the 14mbps was going to be on the G2X, and that we didn’t know yet what this one would have? If this is only going to have 14mbps – then that sux! :o/ Oh well, still a hot phone – good to see T-Mo stepping it up!

        • J-Hop2o6

HTC/Qualcomm doesn’t use above 14.4mbps modems yet, sadly.. but 14.4mbps is plenty.. I haven’t reached max on my G2 yet.. Highest I got was 9mbps in Seattle.

      • Seankir79

14mbps is what it is capable of right now stock in it’s European specs. Obviously Tmobile is gonna have HTC add a better radio in it like they did with the LG G2X and The Vibrant 4G. Hopefully this will be their 2nd 42mbps phone…..but it’ll get at least 21mbps

  • http://twitter.com/MrCker K. Ray

I may give this a test drive. The changes to sense are intriguing me. Finally TMO gets its version of the EVO,
and we no longer have any reason to be jealous of Sprint Customers. HTC has announced a case with a kickstand so we will have that too. Great Job TMO!

    Stay thirsty my friends!

  • Tmocust

i wish this phone had a 1gb ram like the samsung galaxy s II, lg g2x and Motorola atrix does.. I’ll wait until Google i/o or android 2.4 ice cream official announcement is made

ohh finally a relief that it is coming to T-Mobile this summer.time to save some $ :)

  • Anonymous

So what was all that crap about “over-engineering”?

  • msprinkl

OK, love T-Mobile, but their marketing dept really is goofy. Why would you make this announcement 3 days before the G2x comes out. Why not sell some G2x’s first? For example, I would have bought the G2x. Now, I plan on waiting. The challenge with the “waiting” part for T-Mobile is…a lot could change between now and when HTC Sensation comes out. I could mull it over more and decide I do want to switch to MetroPCS or Verizon, etc. A bird in the hand….

Now, having said all that….I am SO glad they did make the announcement. I will wait for the HTC which I believe has the LED Notification. :-D

    • LC

Well, this was HTC’s official announcement, not T-Mobile’s…I’m sure they had to get T-Mobile to sign off on it since they mention them in the press release, but the average customer isn’t waiting in anticipation like all of us here. They see what’s on the TV commercials or on the T-Mobile website and there’s no mention of this phone, just the G2X, the Sidekick 4G and the G-Slate :)

      • msprinkl

Good point…in terms of the average customer.

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_GRIFVUHCR7SCF2J4ACDIVSVGJM Hilton T.Y

I think they count on the average customer not being educated so they can continue selling say the G2 up til they start promoting the Sensation.

        • Anonymous

as long as your under their service, which is now even more prolinged due to the sensation, they’re happy

  • BrianAZ24

tmobile picks funky names for phones… HTC Sensation? not exactly as catchy as HTC Thunderbolt… or HTC Arrive then again HTC Surround is kind of funny too… I like the phone but can’t see mention of a front facing camera…. even on the HTC site there’s no front facing cam mentioned… i hope the one hole on the right is a camera and not just a proximity sensor…

  • Chrisrj8084

I am finally ready for a new phone now, I can finally take Android off my HD2 and put WP7 (NoDo then Mango haha) back on as my spare and rock this as my main phone. Awesome news but a question, Im on even more plus and I am already paying for a phone under the installments. Does anyone know if I can order an additional phone under the installments under EMP?

    • LC

As long as you’ve got the EIP money left to do so, go right ahead.

    • Grand-Wiz

I’m currently paying for two phones under EIP installments and have over $300 on my EIP credit line which I can apply to another phone, if I so please and willing to do the extra payment lol so yes by all means as long as you have credit and you dont mind the added installments to your bill, go right ahead.

is this the Qualcomm chip that is Netflix-Ready?? if so, will this device have it??
