(Updated: It’s Official With Press Release) T-Mobile Hosts “All Smartphones Free” Sale February 11th And 12th

Update: “T-Mobile is sharing the love this Valentine’s Day with an amazing offer:  for two days only, on February 11 and February 12, all phones are FREE. This includes our latest smartphones, like the T-Mobile myTouch 4G, T-Mobile G2 with Google, HTC HD7, and Samsung Vibrant. This offer is available in T-Mobile Retail, T-Mobile Premium Retailer, and participating Retail Partner locations only while supplies last, for new customers, upgrades, and add-a-lines with a 2-year contract.”

T-Mobile is preparing to host an “All Smartphones Free” sale coming up this weekend, February 11th through the 12th. Comparable to the Father’s Day Sale they held last year, we’ve received the above and below screen show showing the free smartphones will be available on “qualifying plans on new 2-year contracts.”

The question that will undoubtedly be on the minds of the existing customer is whether or not this will pertain to them? That’s a question we can’t answer but given T-Mobile’s newfound stamina to ramp up business, we can understand a focus on bringing in new traffic. As soon as we get more details we’ll post them right away!

Press Release:

Well my T-Mobile guy was wrong. I’m going to have to bust his chops (figuratively) on Friday when I return the phone and re-buy to get the free deal.

  • dave w,

Damn it! I was waitin for after MWC to start my plan. Or at least till after the HTC Mozart is released…

  • Hawks7897

No way. Even with a “free” phone, you’re still paying for it in the cost of your plan, being tied down to T-Mo, and if you lose your job, you cannot downgrade your plan to save money. I’ll keep buying my phones brand new off of Ebay, still save money, and not be tied down with a contract, thank you.

    • JackKerouac

Umm, so if you lost your job and really were so broke you couldn’t continue paying for a cellphone plan, the worst that could happen is TMo would terminate your contract and try to hit you up for $200 termination fee.

So….gotta ask, one hand you have $200 fee IF you were to be unemployed and TOTALLY broke.
On the other hand, you are paying for devices as full retail. You sure it adds up the way you think??

      • Getreal

Quiet now! You are ruining his “logic”. HAHAHA!

      • Ghostman34

Yeah, these people who always cry, ‘tied down to tmo or having a contract’…do they even have a tmo plan or account? Do they pay month-to-month..and they really pay full retail for the phone or buy from the bay or craigs’ place? If you’ve been using tmo line for a long time you might as well jump in and get a plan. Sheeeesh..some people.

I’m waiting for the HTC Pyramid. Or at least see if it’s as cool as it sounds. I love my Nexus One more than anything that T-Mobile has right now.

    • Anonymous

I have the same problem. The Nexus S wasn’t worth the jump, and the LG Optimus 2X was rated 6/10 on Engadget. I guess I’m waiting for the Pyramid too.

      • yyevo

But then there will be the LG Qudramid or the HTC Superfly or the Samsung Absurd. You’re never going to find a phone “worthy”.

        • Anonymous

That’s not necessarily true, I’m just waiting for a dual core with a larger screen and ffc. Doesn’t mean I’ll never be satisfied.

There’s nothing wrong with being patient and getting the $600 phone you want versus settling on the $600 right now.

        • Anonymous

And why are you waiting on a dual core device again?

        • Anonymous

Honeycomb optimization. But my primary factor is screen size. No tmo phone goes above 4 inches.

But that is exactly my point…some consumers have certain specs that are important and aren’t willing to settle. It isn’t necessarily about wanting the current best specs.

        • Anonymous

hd2, venue pro, hd7 ….. why only windows?

        • Anonymous

Since I’m waiting for a processor that is “Honeycomb optimized”, I thought it would be obvious that I prefer android.

        • http://ashn.myopenid.com/ Ash

I bet HD2 can run all that…before anybody else.

The LG Optimus 2X was rated 6/10 on Engadget, sure. But they also rated the iPhone 4, with it’s terrible and glaring antenna issues, a 9/10. Go ahead, look up the scorecards for all the higher end Android phones vs. their iPhone 4 reviews, and then just search anything Apple vs. anything non-Apple. Is Engadget really the only site you want to be consulting when making purchases?

        • http://ashn.myopenid.com/ Ash

Only Apple will get 9/10 there.

        • nbohac

Exactly my point. It’s a great site to read just to see what’s coming out, but their reviews really have to be taken with an extremely small grain of salt. That LG Optimus review this morning read almost like a joke.

Fine print…’only one phone per account’! damn so it’s either me or my wife who gets a free phone!

    • M.

sorry wife.. women only need phones to make calls anyway

      • Fire

It is one phone per phone line, not account.

  • http://twitter.com/raitchison Robert Aitchison

I’m guessing that this offer is only good if you have unlimited data, when we tried to take advantage of the BOGO at the end of November we could not because we were signing my wife up for the $15 / 200MB data plan, even thought the web site didn’t say anything about requiring the $30 / unlimited data plan they said they required it and produced a printout of what looked like internal documentation showing that only the $30 / unlimited plan qualified for the BOGO.

    • Nardva

What you could do is call into the loyalty department (retention) on 2-11 or 2-12 and most likely you’ll be able to get a free phone with 2 year contract but instead of getting data for 30.00 ask for preferred unlimited android plan for 20.00. (If you’ve been with T Mobile for at least 2 years you should be able to get it.)

      • Ha!

        great idea

Um, the point of EM+ was no contract, in exchange you buy all your phones unsubsidized, that means full retail price. You will NEVER get a free phone on EM+.

    • Shelby

You pay less per month than people on contracts. So over 2 years you save about the amount people with a contract get off of a worthwhile upgrade. So it evens out. You either save up front, or over time – your choice.

I hate when people switch to EM+ to save a few bucks on their bill and then act surprised 22 months later when they don’t get free phones.

    • Mdneilson

I totally agree with Keller… A g2 normally with contract is what? $200? So, with this deal you get a $200 MIR to make it free. Why cant EM+ get the $200 MIR too? We would still pay the full up front price, but still get the current special WITHOUT the contract discount. Why because we have no contract does that negate us from ALL discounts?

The big issue i see with this is when you return an upgrade phone within the 14 day buyers remorse period @ the store, you’re phone tenure doesn’t get reset in the upgrade system & customer care can’t give you the free phone deal over the phone unless they make a special exception of some sort….As with phones, you always run the risk of buying then having something else become available soon after that makes you wish you waited….just part of the biz

      • Chyeah

Not quite I know from expierence that if you buy a phone from either Customer Care or a Retail store the upgrade tenure can absolutely be reset if a phone is returned or postmarked with the buyers remorse period.

true.. my postmark date is this wednesday (30 days in california).. i paid $199 with $50 rebate!! LOL.. and I was gonna return it becuase I want a dual core lg optimux 2x or whichever but now ill just wait 2 years since the mt4g can do everything although just a bit slower to really know the difference.. i just loved the hdmi out on the new lg.. anyway, I called the rep and they said I just have to call in and give them the tracking # and they’ll reset it right away so I can reuse my upgrade credit.. now im gonna switch to a black one (got the white)..
