Samsung Vibrant Plus Will Offer HSPA+ 21 Mbps 4G Speeds

Well, we knew the Samsung Vibrant Plus existed but we didn’t know was that it’s slated to be T-Mobile’s first 4G phone that offers HSPA+ 21 Mbps speeds. Currently, the myTouch4G and T-Mobile G2 offer 4G speeds that are capped at 14.4 Mbps. On top of that, this Samsung Vibrant 4G which will be exclusive to T-Mobile will offer a front facing camera with Qik video services and finally Android 2.2 (at least one Galaxy S phone has it).

Additionally, the Vibrant 4G will receive the “highest level of marketing support from T-Mobile, plus additional support from Samsung’s Galaxy S campaign. This includes TV and Cinema advertising among other marketing methods.”

This is a nice upgrade to an already decent phone but has Samsung already burned some bridges with the customer base by taking its time with the currently offered Vibrant. If this document is any proof, the Vibrant has sold nearly 1 million units to date and is the #1 selling Galaxy S device across all US carriers. Time will tell if users will scoop this up like they did Vibrant. No release date is posted on this document but we wouldn’t be shocked if we saw this one in the not so distant future.

Why would they not push out an update if they have 2.2 running on a phone wiht the exact same specs? That is what is mind boggling…I could understand if the Vibrant 4G had some sort of upgraded hardware and specs.

  • JJ77

Guys no worries original vibrant will get 2.2 very soon this is cos based on few tests it was found that vibrant as unstable when going for high speeds and 2.2 is the option to fix. This need to be done else all customers with vibrant will be affected big time. There are few updates to come very soon.

oh. didnt realize you worked for samsung and had inside information into the inner workings of the company….. whew! finally 2.2 will come to the original vibrant…. probably right as android 3.0 hits all the other, less expensive, much better phones. JUUUUNNNNKKKK

How nice that they can’t upgrade existing Vibrant phone to Froyo much less Gingerbread but they can sell you a NEW version of the Vibrant w/Froyo on it…..and in 2012, they’ll sell you another new version w/Gingerbread And, of course, T-M will happily go alone because it’s another new phone sale & contract extension! T-M better jump on the LG Otimus 2X as soon as possible cause I’m going to whatever carrier has it.

  • E-dubbs

Well honestly I think since there coming out with a new samsung vibrant phone with all these new features including a front side camera wouldnt it be fair that the old tmobile vibrant users get a free upgrade or able to trade the old vibrant in for the new samsung vibrant if its does come out. I just think its fair due to fact that they held back 2.2 froyo for several months now and still has not release it. Plus there 4 more other updates bout to come out.

    • http://twitter.com/C2thaLo Carlos Rangel

I’ve had my vibrant for 3 months now, I’ll totally play nice and quiet and pretend like none of this ever happened if they just let me trade for the +. No questions…

So…. since Ford went ahead and made the 2011 Mustang leaps and bounds better than the 2010, everyone that bought a 2010 should be given the opportunity to trade it straight up?!? Think about it… (additionally, since phones have about a 2-3 year obsolence, the 6 months that you have owned the phone is nearly a quarter of its marketable lifespan compared to a car which faces about 10+ years)

It happens ALL the time in ALL sorts of product lines. Everything gets improved and at times there are penalties for being an early adopter. I’m sure it was a nice 2 months you enjoyed having the “latest and greatest” phone.

As for SAMSUNG promising a Froyo update to TMO and its customers, shame on Sammy. TMO was unfortunate enough to be dicked around by Samsung as well (since Verizon gets all the real love).

      • Danny

Auto dealers don’t promise OTA or side loadable updates to their fleet of cars.

        Your analogy = FAIL

Samsung sold a buggy product plain and simple. The bugs were supposed to be fixed with FW or SW updates. We got one small update that did nothing but appease our creative imaginations.

If you are still stuck on your automobile analogy remember that car makers announce recalls when they sell products to customers that are defective or unsafe and will either fix or replace the vehicle in worst case scenarios.

Shearing the sheep. Bought the Samsung Vibrant because it was the only decent phone T-Mobile had (my G1 getting aged) and the promise by T-Mobile that my phone would be upgraded to 2.2 shortly. They obviouly lied. Will never buy another Samsung product and will be leaving T-Mobile ASAP after being a previously satisfied customer through various Sidekicks and the G1. Same on you T-Mobile.

Be patient on the dual core phones, they’re just coming out. Anyone thinking that this version of the Vibrant would have a dual-core chip on board isn’t being realistic. As for the lack of Froyo or Gingerbread, that problem is easily solved by following some REALLY, REALLY easy steps provided by our friends over at XDA Developers. The lack of flash is surprising but come on! Has anyone ever seen one decent photo taken from a phone with a flash that didn’t make people in the picture look as white as new bed sheets. I guess it’s better than nothing for some.

    • House3272

Flash does make pictures look bad, night mode ftw. Buta, its a great flashlight, battery drainer, and just overall better to have, so you dont feel left out, or having to explain to your dim-witted friends with bbpearls why flash isnt necessary.

  • T-Mobile REP

If you want a new OS, YOU should install it. Don’t just sit there and cry because your computer didn’t get an OTA upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7. I’ve been on the Vibrant since the release date, and have been on Android 2.2 for about half that time. Oh, I’m also loving: 28% faster cpu speed (overclocked to 1280mhz), freeing myself from samsungs proprietary rfs filesystem and converting to ext4 (I quadrant 3 times faster than a stock Vibrant). Wifi calling. Voodoo sound kernel so that I may increase the headphone amplifier. And wifi hotspot tethering. And because of all of the stuff listed above, I generally speedtest the SAME as a myTouch 4G and a T-Mobile G2 because they are so bogged down with other proprietary crap. My next step is to get an HD2 and flash android to the NAND, so essentially it’ll be EXACTLY the same thing with a 4.3″ screen. Which tops any offering they have, and its SO OLD lol!

Get off your duff and do something about it, checkout xda and get your phones out of jail.

Yes, update the vibrant yourself, It’s easy! No, don’t ever buy a Samsung phone again! There are other brands that prob won’t pull this crap!
Took HTC forever but I’m convinced that all the mytouch line will get froyo, and aside from the slide they are usually built like tanks :-) maybe hop on the LG wagon? We don’t need to support makes that are put out in the beta stage, broken and then never get updated!

    • Hrm…

I’m doubting your credibility as an official T-Mobile Rep given company IP policies and posting stuff like this…
      but like the above post..
As a Tmobile Rep, it sounds like you are suggesting that end-users VOID their warranties.
Care to make this interesting and get permission from TMobile to make this an official recommendation? ;)

Gee..hrm……you do realize that anyone with ‘insurance’ or product protection plan will VOID their protection and VOID their warranty by doing this, right? Or, you can lie about making the change to get warranty/protection coverage, but that is illegal..

Now for those with an out of warranty phone, go for it. For the rest of the world, this needs to be clarly communicated so people can way the risks and make an ‘educated’ decision.

I would love to get it. I love my Vibrant, and if I could get it with 4g speeds, FFC, and Froyo. Count me in!!!!

  • Gmo

I see the plot. Make all current owners want the upgrades and a few need features but don’t give it to them at least not free… To get them make them “upgrade” the device. Makes $$$ sense. If this phone runs 2.2 and the new features (as far as hardware) can be disabled for the current version why are they not releasing the 2.2 update. Unless they have completely re-done the hardware and software I don’t see a real reason other than $$$.

  • YouRallLAMES!!

I am a corporate sales rep and I just want to say this because I would never get a chance otherwise… Why dont all you lazy retards update the Vibrant yourself to 2.2? Its actually very easy. I have been running 2.2 on my Vibrant for months, I watched how to do it on youtube and did it in 15 min… stop crying and complaining because everything isn’t given to you on a silver platter… I hope you all dont live your lives like this.. learn to take control and get what you want.. Dont sit around with a thumb in your ass crying… Waa sob sob I dont have the best phone anymore and I just bought it 6 months ago :,( get over yourself… New phones come out on a weekly basis. Hopefully this bit of truth causes you some kind of buying complex in the future… NO MATTER WHAT PHONE YOU BUY IT WILL BE OLD NEWS/TECHNOLOGY IN 6 MONTHS! Get over it or do something about it! DOUCHES! And I hope they never role the 2.2 out to you sorry lames with the Vibrant.. and I hope the Vibrant 4G shits on your 2.1 Vibrant.

    • SEFan

OK, so now we have two T-Mo reps essentially telling us that our only true friends are at XDA. Good to know. No matter that T-Mo has tried its best to keep folks from rooting, no matter that T-Mo specs Android overlays that they apparently think we would find interesting or useful, the only way to stay current is by taking control yourself, wiping all those things T-Mo thought would be interesting/useful, and rooting. Harsh, but useful, customer service message. Actually starts to make the IOS fenced garden look attractive…

Seriously, I think the Vibrant Plus (or whatever they call it) is Samsung and T-Mo’s admission of a mistake on the original. Many of us commented on the lack of FFC and the limitation to 7.2 mbps. At the time it didn’t matter so much; T-Mo had no other first-line Android device, so even a bare-bones Galaxy S device was great. Then came HTC with the G2 and the MyTouch 4G. Suddenly the Vibrant looks old – still 2.1, still limited to 7.2mbps, no FFC when T-Mo is talking that up all over the place. Oops! You can roll out 2.2 on the Vib, you might even be able to make it faster w/ an OS upgrade, but you can’t add the FFC. But correcting all these things w/ a new Vibrant is easy because all the bits already existed.

Does that make the old Vib a bad phone? No. Still fast, still a lot of memory, still has THAT SCREEN (seriously, the screen is sooo beautiful!), still is light and slim. How many of us can really take advantage of 4G anyway? And seriously, 7.2 is still pretty quick. Not 4G quick, but very few are getting 4G on any carrier, so why worry? I’d never buy a Vibrant because of the GPS issue, which as far as I can tell from the Vib users I know is still unresolved. But if you don’t need GPS so much, this is still a nice phone. So perhaps Sr. LAMES is on to something. Maybe we should all be rooting and upgrading at will. Maybe that will finally convince T-Mo (and other carriers; T-Mo certainly isn’t the worst) to leave off the crapware ’cause XDA WILL find a way in, and we WILL root and do what we want with the phone regardless.

      Sorry. Rant off…

    • TMOprophet

SO let me get this straight, you are a corporate rep who doesn’t deserve his/her job…..

Firstly lying about phone updates in order to sell a almost identical, merely refurbished phone is bad business. Defending that practice is shameful. Just like the Behold 2 before it, the Vibrant proves that Samsuck is truly SamSUCK.

TMO customers are not lazy..they are tricked and lied to by people like YOU. Then you pay off stupid blog sites to defend your crony practices. I can’t wait till HTC or LG brings out screen technology better than your Super Amoled, because at that point Sammy’s stranglehold on the pretty screen market will be over.

The only potentially good phone Samsung has maybe going for it is the yet to be shown Galaxy S2 that is rumored to be shown at the WMC. Perhaps finally having dual cores, and HSPA+, source code released, and all the goodies on board from the get go might keep people satisfied with their phones a little longer.

Final thought, quit your job and make room for someone who actually cares about what the customers want and expect.

      • Stcroix

Yeah, so .. do they teach you to lie to the clients to get them to buy the almost defunct upgrade(knowing that a new one will come out 3( that’s right), three days after the sale? or are you all just natural liars? I pay out over 300.00 a month to those vultures, and have to watch them like a hawk, I have been over billed ( a $275 dollar charge appeared on my T Mobile at home for Over age in Minutes)… After that I had an accountant friend go over all my T MO bills, and found 15 other mistakes. ( since rectified), still they have not given up.. I asked for the strongest network link they had, and they sold me the web jet by Huawei, POS, that half the time can’t even connect, even where my phone does. they could just let me tether and get on line, but no… that might be productive, point is as soon as I purchased this POS, I find out they have a more powerful one for 165.00. Nice ( grab your ankles it’s a T MO rep…..) Verizon offers a portable hot spot that allows 5 devices on line at one time, does T MO? hell no… Is there a device that allows 5 devices, yes and guess what it is made by that’s right Huawei, ( I ordered one from China). I will be ready for T MO selling their souls to satan ( AT&T), because as soon as that happens, I will be free of their contracts.( having never agreed to stay with them if they sell or merge with any one else). Oh and one more thing, you and AT&T are liars, you do not have 4G yet. you simply dressed some kid in a pink dress and do old school ( MAC vs PC) ads neither of you have 4 G you simply re branded your 3 G.

so you Bunch of pathetic liars STFU!

    • Stcroix

Yeah that Infuse looks tempting, but then again, why settle for less, when shortly they will be announcing the dual-core version of it at the World Mobile Congress event. That will likely be the Galaxy S2 device, and Samsung has confirmed that they will announce the successor to the SGS at this upcoming event.

I don’t like Sammy all to well, however if they put out a device that meets my personally preferred criteria, then I will be happy to purchase their phone. so naturally a dual cored version of the Infuse would satisfy me pretty well, probably enough to last 2 years or more :)

And thats the ticket right there, thats why Sammy hasnt launched a killer phone, they could have, but they know that people wont upgrade phones as often if they did, so they bring out more and more phones more often with the features and specs only being incrementally improved, meanwhile proclaiming that the previous device has hardware limitations that prevent upgrades for the Operating system version.
Yeah its pretty much a big f#cking game to Samsung on how to best sucker their customers.

and T MO goes along with it, making a 20 yr client pay full price for the newest upgrade device. then admitting they made an error, but still offering only 50% of the original rebate just to shut you up. Bunch of street hookers

actually AT&T is getting T Mobile, because they are wh__ing them selves out, didn’t even ask the stock holders…. and of course the clients can just grab their ankles, typical of T Mobile ey?

holy cow… I have never seen so many haters in all my life. By the sound of all the pathetic winning you all must be some unhappy spoiled americans. Hopefully life gets better. Its a phone. There is no such thing is perfect. The fact that it has a super amiloid screen and you can pay $200 for it should be enough. No other series besides samsung galaxy s has that. Chill people.its not the end of the world.
