Well, well, what do we have here? The Vibrant 4G of course! The folks over at AndroidCentral just received pics of the upcoming Vibrant successor. Surprisingly, the handset is almost exactly the same cosmetically as the original Samsung Vibrant. The only noticeable changes seem to be a silver colored back and the addition of a front-facing camera. The handset is supposedly running still running Froyo and not the newer Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Although I absolutely love the original Vibrant design, I was really expecting Samsung to change at least something rather than the color. Maybe a LED Flash?

Check out some additional pics of the handset below, and don’t forget to leave your thoughts in the comments!

Here is a major point… if the picture show is in fact the up-coming Vibrant 4G… my accessories (cover, docking station, screen protectors and car charger) look like they will still work…. that could be a deal MAKER for me.

    BUT!
Not many of the complaints here are completely unjustified. Being a Vibrant owner I have personally experienced many of the same issues. I don’t particularly care about FFC and flashes. I think it’s true that not many people who have FFC’s even use them. The camera on the phone seems to take pictures in very low light pretty well so the flash is not 100% needed either.

What kills me is the GPS. I’ve never seen it work good. Ever. I had a iPhone and use to run with it using the GPS to track myself. I had a MyTouch3G and it’s GPS worked well too. The Vibrant, however, has never been able to track my runs accurately. I’ve tried all the fixes and MODs and ROMs to no success. It still takes forever to lock on and has me running on streets a block away.

    • magentamadness

Have you seen the app “trackmaster”? Its a few bucks and works excellent. Lot you can do with it. The GPS itself I used to have a few issues in the beginning…mainly not being able to find my location and/or losing sight of where I was…but that all seemed to go away after the update a while back. Another thing that helped find my location quicker was to be stationary and either be outside or have the window open when finding the location. AGPS sometimes doesn’t work well while inside the vehicle (depending where the phone is held.)

      • Frigadroid

So your saying if your in a car moving you shouldn’t expect the gps navigation to work really? Do you work for tmobile our sapdung?

        • magentamadness

Ok, lets follow the bouncing ball…What I’m saying is, sometimes GPS devices can take longer to find your location when you are moving…I’ve also had this happen to me with my TomTom…I’m not saying this will always be the case…just offering a suggestion based on my own experience.

To answer you’re question, I am in fact employed by T-Mobile USA…and share the same happiness and frustrations that come with any mobile device.

OK I’m getting an Iphone, but waiting for 5. Im tired of samsung. promises, no delivery. battery life sucks. Apple is the innovator, Android will ALWAYS be trying to catch up. they will ALWAYS be the iphone wanna be. I will probably ditch T-mobile and go with Verizon.

I use Runkeeper. Same App I used on the iPhone and the MyTouch3G I had. (When the Android finally came out). I moved up to the vibrant and haven’t been happy with the GPS since. I have tried other Apps (not sure if Trackmaster was one of them). I’d be kind of surprised if the App is the problem though. I would guess that it’s more a function of the GPS hardware not giving good GPS data to the software. It is only a guess though… I will give it (TrackMaster) a try. Thanks.

how about a camera side button i love my vibrant but its akward to take pics of my self

    • JMC

Hey Robertredit3179, it seems like 95% of android phones do not have any physical buttons (other than the volume rocker). I would love to see more phones that would have physical buttons, including a camera side button. However, if I find a phone that I really like, I will forego the camera button because I found a program that will work. It’s called Camera Zoom FX. It will allow you to assign any button to take a picture, including the volume rocker. It costs a few dollars in the market, but it’s well worth it.

Stupid.. Looks the same and there is no flash. its like paying for 2.2 And a little faster speed and you can instal a front face camera on the regular vibrant i did it myself.

    • Giraffe

Your 2.2 update is available for the Vibrant 3G. Google search Kies Mini.

…but it wasn’t, and everyone that bought it (myself included) knew it wasn’t, and that the international version had one. If you’re disappointed the only person you have to be annoyed with is yourself.

I don’t know anyone to video chat with anyway, and even if I did I’d feel like a moron doing it. Hey, if I had a FFC I wouldn’t need to carry a mirror to see my own taint, though. That’s worth being jealous of, amiright?

I dare say that im going to HAVE to get this….but damn samsung and T-mo for doing things so close together…and why no gingerbread? SO many ethical issues with this device

    • Giraffe

Ethical issues? I really don’t see how this has anything to do with ethics. It’s software. Is it antiethical if the decision between my computer of choice is if it’s a Vista instead of a Win 7 OS? How about an XP? If you really feel it’s inappropriate for the Vibrant 4G to come without Gingerbread on it, you can always fix that up on your own. As someone who is so hurt by this decision to mislabel the issue as ethical, I’m sure you’d be better set taking that effort and learning how to root your phone and do what you should be doing in the first place.

i agree. how is that the U.S always gets the good stuff once its old in other countries. Come on t mobile drop the optimus 2x so you dont lose customers to verizons iphone4 next week

    • Anonymous

iPhone, G1, Droid, Nexus One, EVO, Droid X are all legendary phones that started in the US first.

And its funny to me how people are saying Samsung is trash when LG copies Samsung and uses a lot of the same parts. But I guess since LG hasn’t been big in the phone market yet, people will see soon enough.

    • Giraffe

Every carrier is going to take a loss to verizon on iPhone V day, no doubts about it, but if T-Mo is right on the big promo, we’ll have something huge on our hands. It’d be pretty amazing if they released the star under everyone’s noses…

  • Oce

Please just bring on the Optimus 2x already. Sprint got the Evo, ATT gets the Infuse. When will Tmo get a 4 inch Andorid superfone?

    • Anonymous

And the 4″ Vibrant isnt a superphone? Try to play Dungeon Defenders on that EVO and watch it fail.

Does this thing have real HSPA+ or just HSDPA 14.4 like the other 4G phones.

    • Anonymous

It has a boost to 21 mbps instead of the regular 14 so we should see some better speeds. Maybe we’ll call it 4.1g lol.

  • Jerseyfresh6

Looks like itll do the same as the regular vibrant

  • Nickhil

Smh at Tmobile.. This looks like its the same phone with a new back “ooo lala” and a FFC… A bunch of kids already made this modification on youtube.. Why pay hundreds more for a simple software update.. Sounds a little something like the phone that shall not be named.. Where’s the dedicated camera button… where’s the flash… where’s the LED light.. where’s the “REAL Vibrant 4g?!!”

    • Anonymous

Samsung put all their effort in the new Galaxy S 2 which will debut in Feb. The Vibrant 4G is here to make some quick cash before being replaced in a few months. $$$ makes the world go round, remember that

    • Giraffe

Read proper, the Vibrant 4G is not running Gingerbread, it’s on Froyo. This is a hardware upgrade to give access to HSPA+, the core of the phone remains identical to the Vibrant. The computer of the device is still the most advanced out there, and the 4G gives people another look at it – and gives T-Mobile another chance to slap a network buzz message and see if people actually pay attention to this device.

I have an old Blackberry Curve which I love but have worn it out so I’m looking to buy a new Tmo phone. I don’t like the new Blackberrys so they are out. I was looking at the MyTouch, then the Vibrant, then I heard the Vibrant 4G was coming and decided to wait and see what it looked like and what it could do, then tonight at Best Buy I saw the Nexus S. I could care less about the FFC, however I do want a camera button, easy to see in sunlight, expandable memory, and rugged. Each phone as details that I like and don’t like. I don’t know which to choose. For every pro review I find, I find a con review. But what gets me is all this new 4G speed and Mobile, AL isn’t allowed to have 3G/4G because of a Gov’mt contract with a local air force base and no one knows when or if we will actually be able to have the 3G/4G speeds. So what is the point of getting a 4G phone when you can’t use the phone to its fullest potential? UGH!!

Stay ahead of the game. 4g is the wave of the future. I have a Vibrant 3g and it is the best phone I have ever had. I could have gotten a mytouch 4g or g2 whenever I wanted but the reason I stayed with the vibrant so long is because of the picture and video quality. It has the best picture and video quality of any phone that exist in the U.S. I will be getting the vibrant 4g as soon as I can. Hopefully before it is released .

      • MC123

Its the simple fact genius! you don’t ask for a cheeseburger to be skipped on the cheese. The flash on a phone should be as automatic as head phone jack and the camera itself. This is meant to just jip the customer. This thing will retail for the same thing as all the other high end phones with less mechanism. But hey stephan seem you missed the point of my original comment, I will allow you one more opportunity to make a case make it a good one please! Proceed……

every hot phone? Last I checked, the droidx was laggy as all getout and nowhere near the graphic prowess of the Vibrant, as told by two different friends who used it (one returned it within buyer’s remorse, the other is stuck). Verizon using Motorola phones as their flagship devices is not a smart move, they would do much better to market their Fascinate (which T-Mobile has) and their Droid Incredible (Which T-Mobile trumps with the MyTouch 4g). It’s hot because people tell you it’s hot, and Verizon wants you to think that the phones that other companies don’t have a direct translation of are the best, because then Verizon has the phones that noone else has. Brilliant marketing.

    • TMOTECH

TMO has changed its software update policy. New updates will be coming more often and much quicker. The reason for the huge delay in the froyo release for the vibrant was a technical issue and not because of samsung. The Froyo update fixes a lot of bugs that the original Vibrant had. Hopefully our new policy will be more customer friendly in the future.

The European will not balk at paying FULL PRICE for a device and be on month-to-month service. The American will whine if the device is not FREE every time they walk into the store. At the very start, there is a difference in how the consumer is approached because of their purchasing. Why throw in everything on a US device when the carriers know they can lock the purchaser in for CONTRACTS… on a month-to-month your money speaks louder because you can decide the next day to purchase something else.

Speak for yourself. Shouldn’t have to root a phone. It’s called Customer Service. I have no problem rooting a phone, but I don’t like voiding warranties.

    • Slufnevets

      Agreed!!

  • Hanover_Fiste

How about a camera flash and slide out keyboard.

  • Katmack

This phone doesn’t need a flash to take a good picture its how the phone is designed. Use it before u diss it.

Actually, I currently own a Vibrant and even though the camera is pretty good, I would definitely prefer a flash for pics at night or in dark places. Night mode doesn’t help much in those cases.

It’s simple optics and physics. To sacrifice for the decreased amount of photons that reach the sensor, the phone i) creates artificial noise, ii) decrease resolution, and iii) increase shutter time, which results in blur pictures.

Therefore, camera is always a must for any decent photos.

The vibrant doesn’t need a flash. It has a night mode for pics and actually takes better pictures at night without the big white spot on ur subject like some flashes do.

    • Slufnevets

Accidentally Liked this, but I’m sorry, many situations night mode doesn’t work well,

  • Kniven1

Done with Samsung and the promise of updates. Stick with HTC!

      Agreed!!

  • 7emoore7

No android 2.3 …really?? I have the old vibrant now and it take horrible pics at night, flash would have been nice. Smh cuz I was seriously waiting for this phone, expecting an actual upgrade! #disappointed @iFRECKLES7

No buddy, the night mode doesn’t work in really dark places because its a LIGHT INHANCER. That means you have to have some light to begin with. sorry you didn’t understand that. True they should have used a flach but I think they where trying to test something new. All your other complaints are valid though.

I want this but the silver color looks more bronze to me ]:
Maybe a white version or an extra back cover included like they did with the original vibrant?

What the heck is up with Samsung? No LED Flash? Why? No android 2.3? Why? I love the original Vibrant, but I’m through with Samsung. Their Customer Service sucks, and their refusal to update quickly, has pushed me away.
