Samsung Vibrant 4G Launching February 23rd?

While most Samsung users are wondering just when exactly the original Vibrant might receive its update to Android 2.2, the Samsung Vibrant 4G has been blessed with a release date. As it stands, Samsung is taking a very public backlash (and by public, we mean by people who intensely follow cellphone blogs) but are forging ahead with the launch of an updated variant of the original Vibrant. So February 23rd looks to be the day you can scoop up the “next gen” Samsung Vibrant 4G as this screen grab from a ninja’s email shows. The real question is how many of you will be looking to this as your next device or have the actions of Samsung spurned you and caused you swear off them?

ive had froyo for like 3 months already. if you want it so badly just root it. its obviously way easier for samsung to make a newer model than it is to update so many vibrants. whenever you purchase a phone, be satisfied with what you get and just be patient. its a great device on 2.1 or 2.2. you should always know, 6 months- 1 yr down the road, the newer model of your phone is going to come out.
i love my vibrant on 2.1 or 2.2, but ill be getting the 4g vibrant anyways because i have never been so satisfied with a device and can ony expect better.

no sir i am completely serious there is no 3g in my home(outside there is but very slow data like 1 mbps

however inside i can get 4g easy

3G and 4G is the exact same radio frequency for T-Mobile. If you get 4G, you get 3G. If you’re not getting 3G signal, there’s no way you can get 4G. Getting a new phone is not going to fix that.

The comments on this blog seem like an orchestrated move by Samsung to counteract the way customers feel.

No one in their right mind would ever consider Samsung again.

FYI. Trolls wanting the phone… we know who you are.

Other than the 4G radio and preloaded bloatware like T-Mo TV, what else does this device have over its predecessor that most 3rd party outlets give away free right now?

    Camera flash?
    Wi-Fi HotSpot?
    Wi-Fi Calling?

I’ve had to replace my Vibrant twice. Beautiful screen but they keep freezing, apps kept force closing (even Gmail) up and GPS continued to suck even after the update. My device would constantly show 0 bars of 3G service with poor -112 dBM’s of signal while my other phones would show 2-3 bars with -85 dBM’s of signal in the same spot.

I hope they got rid of the lag, constant force closes and freeze up’s.

Your phones work JUST FINE without Froyo, Samsung isn’t gypping you on ANYTHING.

    • Aaron Von Gauss

No, that’s not exactly a good general statement. To give one real world example, prior to Froyo you could only like to one Google Calendar properly, with Froyo you can link to multiple.

How do you know how everyones phone works? Mine sucks GPS half works, terrible lag, when I open the gallery the whole phone locks up and I have to do a battery pull. So speak for yourself that’s the only phone you truly know about. Do you think thousands of people all got together and decided to lie on poor little Samsung your an idiot.

This sounds like a great phone, but I’m going to wait for htc to come out with a 4 inch beast. Cuz atleast even if it isn’t stock android it will get updates faster then samsung. I may even get the next LG optimus 2x

Why aren’t we seeing the kernel screen, the back of the phone that would show Vibrant 4G markings? Something doesn’t feel right and considering how easy it is to stick a camera into the Vibrant these days, I don’t know…I’m not 100%.

Every other comment I read on this site says if your tired of samsung not releasing froyo then root your phone. I am tired of reading that this is for all of you, NOT EVERYONE WANTS TO ROOT THERE PHONE, get over it. The truth of the matter is users shouldnt have to root there phone to get an update that was promised by September.

    • Anonymous

Well then….stop complaining. What everyone seems to forget is that Android is open-sourced for a reason. Tired of your phone looking like everyone else’s phone? Root it. Tired of the same old firmware? Root it. Ohhhh and if you are tired of being lied to by carriers/manufacturers about updates…..root your darn phone!!!!!! If half of you actually stop complaining and do some research, you’ll find that it takes all of 5 minutes to root your Vibrant and the only way you can mess up is if you are trying to do it blindfolded. Also, the way carriers/manufacturers are sending botched updates nowadays, you mind as well try a community that has millions of users with hundreds of people who all work together to make your phone look and run wayyyyy better than some stupid update ever could.

Like MC Hammer best put it: “Can’t touch this!”

When I thought the Behold II was just a fluke for Behold II owners, I decided to give Samsung [Vibrant] a try for the first time, just to give them the benefit of the doubt. I noticed one thing– the make promises they cannot deliver about updates. To add insult to injury, the Vibrant’s GPS still sucks after all that hardware update [not to mention Swype sucked too].

Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. Been fooled once with the Vibrant…it ain’t happening again. Looking forward in the future for LG/HTC/etc

  • Really, no 4g

From what I have learned of Samsung with my Samsung Epic work phone: good devices, cheap construction, an cowardly support for android updates. I think I will let Samsung catch up to HTC before I give them anymore business. Jesus, I am still on Eclair for God sakes and the are already talking about Ice Cream Sandwich in June? Hell, I am two desserts behind! Gotta love being put on a diet by Samsung developers.

Samsung sucks!!!!!!! No update anytime soon! !!!

  • mjN1

Just wondering how is this better than the nexus s? I wish people would stop comparing all these devices to the nexus s. Like the Nexus one was compared again and again to all the handsets that has all the extra screen size, front camera, blah blah blah… in the end a Nexus device still stands out because the updates. What good is a device with all the extra features that does not get updates? All these devices NON NeXus is only good when it comes out if they make it to the next update, Its all about the updates, then cpu comes next and what ever lil features it has. Remember OS updates first!!!!

  • fauxhawk70

As a Vibrant Galaxy S owner without Froyo I was thinking how nice this new 4G version would be for Samsung to douche with!!!

Surely they will have enough left over when nobody buys them!

If I could kick Sammy in the nutsack I would by running 1/4 mile really fast to gain speed first right at them!

Someone bring me the next Google branded phone please and not Samsung! I want my updates on time and on a regular basis.

  • Jtfinn

I’m going to jump on this phone IMMEDIATELY ’cause there’s a rumor Samsung is going to upgrade it to Gingerbread on April 1…..problem is they didn’t say what year and time runs out on December 21, 2012 so I guess I’ll just forget the whole thing and hunt for as LG Optimus 2X. I won’t touch another Samsung phone – not because the upgrade is being withheld but because I do not like being lied to and made a fool of…..adios Samsung!

  • TeeD0ffUs3R

“Samsung is taking a very public backlash” not public enough for the “consuming public to know about the crap they have pulled on over 10 million consumers!
“The real question is how many of you will be looking to this as your next device” No the real question should be why the media isnt poking samsung in the eye and asking publicly why they have abandoned all of the 10 million customers????

An no I wont ever drop a dime into samsungs pockets, EVER AGAIN!

  • Brian Brian Brian

never buying a samsung device again. lack of support, lies, issues. back to HTC for me… the vibrant was my first and last.

You have the right to be pissed off for not getting the update. Hopefully there can be a way to put newer updates ourselves and not have to deal with Tmobile. wait there is its call Rooting! if you can find this blog, post on this blog, then you can find a way to update your phone!

For the love of Android , please stop complaining!

    • Jtfinn

Apparently you have more money than brains to buy a brand new phone 9at full price) that only upgrades the OS one level (and is therefore still another level behind things w/2.3!) and Samsung sits back and says payup or shut up – you need us more than we need you! Be my guest, chump.

i love my vibrant.. currently running Nero v5 + Voodoo.. but i think i would not do business with Samsung at the moment.. their business model is lame.. they should think about customer retention and loyalty first to grow business.. now, even if i would love to have the new vibrant plus, i will hold until Samsung straightens their sh*t first.. oh, and 2 hours ago, i just ordered a G2 for my wife (free – promo)..

I’ve had the captivate (sucks terribly… so does ATT) for 6 months now. I used to have the Nexus One on T-Mobile which I loved. I just needed to get the bigger screen of the captivate for some reason. First of all, Samsung TouchWiz is the worst possible thing that you could try to poison Android with. Second, 2.2 has been out for many months; and, now, 2.3 is out. Galaxy S is stuck on 2.1. I would get the Nexus S because it has stock Gingerbread, but Samsung made it, so I think I will wait for the next pure Google phone with 2.3 and 4g speeds.
