Honestly, is this the Galaxy S 4G or the Vibrant 4G, or maybe it’s the Vibrant Plus?

why isnt it super amoled+, android 2.3.New device wit barely any upgrade to it wow samsung and tmobile really

    • Aerofanbig

2.3 has been out for what, not even a month? Good god people, there is ONE on the market with factory 2.3 now, and it came out 4 weeks ago. Give it a few more days at least before every one forms the angry mob for 2.3 updates lol and by the time everyone has it, there will be Honeycomb and before thats even out people will say its gotta be ice cream sandwich or I’m going to AT&T/VW/Who cares.

I wonder how long it’s going to take Samsung to fix the Android SMS bug…

    • http://twitter.com/georgekung George Kung

It’s not really a Samsung phone problem, it’s an Android problem. I’ve had it happen several times on my G2.

Tmobile makes me sick. So I just bought a Vibrant in September as a new customer. How much do you think it would run me to get this if given a discount or mini upgrade?

    • Anonymous

      Such is life Killian.

If you don’t use the FFC (front facing camera) and you don’t get 4G speeds in your area you’re really not missing anything.

      • Frigadroid

Exactly anyone who still wants a samsdung why not wait for the galaxy s2. Its just around the corner if tmobile does get it. This phone is just a vibrant remix and really nothing ground breaking. I wouldn’t buy in to the 21mhz with 42 around the corner.

    • Anonymous

It’s probably gonna cost all of 500 dollars but your a long way away from even a $0.50 discount.

    • 4G_or_not_4G

Killian, you have got to pay attention to what is going on, so that your an informed consumer. If you are not happy with the Vibrant because they are now coming out with a 4G version with a FFC. What is going to happen, when two months after that they have the same model adding dual core and a better screen. This is not new news, so I am at a lost why you are sick because they are coming out with a better device.

    • Aerofanbig

Why do so many people here think they are entitled to free upgrades and big discounts and such because they bought a phone they liked and now something better has come out? If Chevy puts a V10 in the corvette next month, do you expect them to upgrade you because you bought the V8 today?

You’ve got a good phone, you are not really missing out on anything. The new Vibrant is not ground breaking and you would likely notice barely any difference between them, if anything at all.

      • Anonymous

YES they owe me a V12 for makin me mad! No, but honestly I’d probably get the same 3Mbps on this GS4G in my house that we do on our Vibrant and MT4G. I really hope this 21meg really makes a significant difference because my Vibrant will be hittin 5′s and 6′s if it does.

  • Benzworld

I’m a little confused. Is the phone going to be called the Samsung Galaxy S 4G or the Samsung Vibrant 4G?

    • Grv

To give the impression that this phone is new they’re calling it the Samsung Galaxy S.

  • Benzworld

Sorry David I just saw you asked the same question! ;)

  • Anonymous

T Mobile, why bring this useless phone, you should be thinking “ATRIX”. Not Samsung!

Samsung phones are not going to sell well, and if updates keep the pace of the Vibrant, nobody will really want them. (I for example will consider ATT if their network improves!.. and Ill have an ATRIX dual core, VM a laptop no need for tablet!).

Look at the replies, people wont be standing in line (no superamoled, geez, where do you guys have your heads???).

    • Anonymous

You’re right. T-Mobile should not bring any phones with lower specs than the Atrix cause justmehereandnow says so, correct?

Get real. It’s only January. We got 25 4G devices coming out this year homie.

Think World Congress in Barcelona next month. Think CTIA. You betcha T-Mobile will be promoting some high end 4G devices at those shows.

Meanwhile low and mid range devices will still get their turns too.

  • http://twitter.com/Lawless_1 Lawless_1

I like how they make look like a mysterious device when we all know it looks like the same damn thing as the 8 month old vibrant lol

  • DH

    no thanks!!!

  • Youngt82

Yeah I agree with most of you people on here. T-Mobile like really needs to step up huge this year because as I hear and see so far they keep bringing out the same phones over and over again but just with a new or added brand name, 4g and old azz froyo…even though my mytouch slide hasn’t gotten the update yet, they should be bringing out this phone or most of their new phones with gingerbread already. We do need a dual core high end smartphone from htc like the evo or thunderbolt and samsung please get focused now smh so please T-Mobile stop coming out with these teens like phones and bring us some more smarter ,fancier and mature phones this year and the future to come!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Aerofanbig

The EVO isn’t dual core lol. And every other carrier does the same thing…they release the same brands. Droid, EVO, iPhail….they’ll just keep “updating”. But, the grass is always greener, right? *eye roll*

  • Youngt82

And come to think of it that’s what I think T-Mobile stands for “Teenager Mobile” lmao

  • Landinzmaze

You all are crazy…this phone was badass n u all complained that it didn’t have 2.2or an ffc, or hspa +. Now it does n u still complain. The atrix has 2.2 also….lol. as do most phones. This phone will b badass. Dual core will be on the galaxy s2, n updates will come. When they’re ready, n not because u all think its time

  • Youngt82

Yeah but the phone looks exactly the same as the vibrant, just supposed to have front face camera which I heard , still no flash though smh lol

  • mixx2020

Months ago I was like, the Vibrant is the one of the best phones ever made. But after the froyo fiasco, I was one of the people bellyaching about how Samsung sucks as far as updates. Although I was actually excited about the Galaxy S 4G… That is, until I rooted my Vibrant and put AXURA (Froyo) on it. Now I really could care less about the Vibrant 4G. My current rooted Vibrant running AXURA is faster, has usb tethering, AND acts as a wifi hotspot. My phone is back to being one of the best phones of all time. My next phone has to have all the features I have now PLUS dual core and hspa+. Other than that, I see me keeping my Vibrant for a long time

    • rabba

I am in the same boat as you. I’m so pissed at samsung and tmobile I cant even tell you. I have been trying to decide what rom to use, this will be my first time rooting my vibrant. Would you say this is a stable rom? I was going to try the new bionox v.. . any info you can share I’d really appreciate it!

      Thanks!!

Just thought I’d share this from Tmobile’s site reguarding their data speeds.

    What is 4G?

“It means our supercharged network gives our phones better performance and faster speeds. How much faster? Up to three times faster than standard 3G. Pretty sweet.”

I coulda swore it was 10 times faster than standard 3G??

    http://t-mobile-coverage.t-mobile.com/

    • Jinx8402

“Standard” 3G is 7.2 mbps. While HSPA+ (or 4G) is currently at 21 mpbs on T-Mobile. They are working to get this up to 42 mbps this year

      • Anonymous

Yup thats right. And it was actually just VZW and Sprint with the 10x claims.

Everybody if talking about Atrix…what makes u so sure u won’t be waiting 6 months to a year for at&t to release an update?? everybody blames samsung…if you check the update build date and release date ull know tmo has had it for a while and was “testing” it…

  • darkjuan

If this “sign up for notification” is anything like the G2 one they had months ago, it will be a complete fail. I never got my notification until about a month AFTER the G2 came out!!

    • Meagan

Tmobiles Marketing Department should be ashamed of themselves. They should have never sent you a email a month later. It’s like, why bother…

  • Mike

What sucks is this has HSPA+. The other super phones there coming out with like the LG 2X or even galaxy 2 won’t have it. Want dual core but seems pointless ro get any phone that doesn’t have HSPA+ 21.

i know everyone likes to wine about wanting the best phone on the planet. And i know people like to complain about why not this or why not that….tmo this and tmo that!
whining only is good when paired with a great cheese!
its all marketing and dooling out the goods pieces at a time. look, what has Sprint really introduced since the EVO???? At the time it was an all in one device and is still considered one od the best phones on the market. its great for EVO owners, not so much for the manufactures in term of sales. so what do they do, they give you a small piece of that cheese…leaving you, wanting more. right??
every one of you knew of dual core processors for a long time…..and every one of you knew it wouldnt be until this year too.
my point is not original, enjoy what you have purchased and know what you have purchased will only be “cool” for about 6-8 months. thats the way “they” want it! sure if you have the cash flow, you can always get the best, assuming your with that particular carrier. and i know for some, chasing for the best phone is more or less a hobby and thats cool (im jealous). but know this……its exciting times, because every year “our” hobby gets better and better.
    Enjoy your phones!!!!!
    Later.

I just hope that by Samsung release this .5 upgrade it doesn’t mean the T-mobile will be last to get the next full upgrade, the dual core super AMLOE plus phone Sammy’s rumored to be droping in Barcelona

  • Anonymous

So Samsung is going to release a phone that competes with 2 other Samsung phones that already exist in T-Mobile’s lineup (The Vibrant and the Nexus S), seems kind of stupid. I’m really starting to think Samsung purposely didn’t include HSPA+ for the Nexus S so they could have it in this refresh instead.

    • hi!

you’re STARTING to think Samsung purposely didn’t include HSPA+ on the Nexus S so they could have it in the refresh instead?

Really? Honestly? Starting to think that? HAHAHA, it’s obvious. These are huge huge companies. They make no mistakes, there are no oversights, there is nothing without purpose.

We as consumers need to NOT buy this device as a way of showing them that this BS way of doing things is NOT ok!!!

      • Anonymous

What a humble response, I don’t live on tech sites so I’m just finding out about the refresh. Going as far to say big companies don’t make mistakes, is a bit of a stretch.

        • Anonymous

yeah he’s never really looked at Microsoft, or even HTC

        • Landinzmaze

Lol….iPhone changes every year n people run out to buy em. N no one gives them crap, lol. Lets recap. original vibrant: 2.1, first screen of its kind. 16gigs n expandable, no ffc, no hspa+, still fast. New galaxy s4g: froyo, new ffc, only one outta the 3 w hspa +, still has expandable memory….n the new camera has a 360 degree view feature in it! W night mode. Nexus s: was upgraded w ffc, first curved display, and first w nfc n gingerbread. Thats a lot of good options. W updates following accordingly. N now the galaxy s2 at mwc 2011….

        • Anonymous

Your correct, Apple updates the iPhone every year, but this is Samsung’s third iteration of the same device within 8 months and all of them are running a different version of Android. When Apple upgrades a device everything is better across the scale (maybe not with Antennagate but you get the picture). With the Vibrant you have Micro SD expansion, no Flash on the Camera, and 2.1, with the Nexus S you gain the Flash on the camera and the newest version of Android but lose the Micro SD expansion, and with the SGS4G you add the 4G but lose the newest version of Android. Companies are suppose to add features, not take them away.

        • Kfree

This is how they make their money…… But I wont buy a phone until it has everything I need I wont fall into samsung trap again….

How do you figure? Do you know how many dual-core phones are in the US market at this very minute? That’s right, none. Everyone is set to get a dual-core release in Q1 2011. We’re only a third of the way over w/ Q1. Keep your pants on.

      • hi!

the Atrix is about to hit (rumored at $150 no less!!!!!!!!!!) in a few short weeks. We will then have lost ANY edge or leverage we may have gained by getting the optimus 2x out to the public since the Atrix is far and away a superior device.

        • pantlesspenguin

RUMORED, being the operative word here. Plus, who cares if the Atrix is $50 cheaper on contract? Their rate plans are higher than T-Mo, so they’ll be paying more in the long run. Also, all we know of the Optimus 2x are RUMORS, as well. Most of the time the final iteration of a device is a lot better than the first rumors of the device.

        • hi!

the only thing “rumored” on the Atrix is the price. So let’s give you the benefit of the doubt and say it comes in at $350 (which is clearly won’t). My point still 100% stands. Nice try to attack a tangent to my argument and not the meat and potatoes of it

      omg why you screaming??? LOL

  • Tmoisslow

Look, I have asked for an investigation and it is falling on deaf ears. I now have a ‘tier 2′ ticket within t-mobile.
I have taken measurements within a 20mi radius of my area of FLA measuring dBm and %signal.

I have sent them pictures and points. I have been promised a personal call from the Engineering Team. We shall see. What it boils down to is this. My area went 4G almost a year ago. I have the hard data showing that in the ‘hottest’ spot, per there own admission, the signal is only 3g despite what the icon shows.

I could tell that the tech was unnerved. Do yourself a favor. HSPA+ means nothing if you are not getting it.

Its amazing how many different stories I have been told along my quest. They are counting on the customer not having persistence.

David, how about stepping up and chasing this down!

    • pantlesspenguin

Um, T-Mo rolled out their “4G” just a few months ago. The first handset that utilized the new higher speeds was the G2, which was released in September, if memory serves. How can you claim that your area went 4G almost a year ago?? You probably aren’t receiving much of a reply from T-Mo because your claims can’t be substantiated.

Second, David isn’t affiliated w/ T-Mobile as far as I know. I think he just runs this fansite & is privvy to some leaks before other blogs.

      • Tmoisslow

Um, The Rocket 2.0 was releasedmore than 6 months ago. Before the phone.AND my point was that I have received elevated response from T-mobile as they cannot argue with the data I provided.

Do you even understand dBm? Quick to the Wiki, Batman!

        • Myfatboy01

what is your dBm you are seeing on your web connect (rocket) ? Did you look at the pcc map?

    • Wireless_oneder

4G equipment at the site isn’t worth much when the backhaul hasn’t been upgraded. I have lots of sites in my area that show me a 3G signal on my Nexus S, but give me a 50kbp/s connection. I get better speeds when I switch to edge. TMO better watch out, or some Attorneys General may sue for misrepresentation.

  • Anonymous

How come nobody is mentioning the mytouch4G with HSPA+, front facing camera, etc. Isn’t that device TMO’s flagship??? I’m one of those disillusioned Vibrant and G2 users that ended up with a mytouch4G. As yes, it has a crappy speakerphone, but overall its the best of TMO’s offerings today.

  • Vibrant Galaxy S 4G Plus

I don’t get it. Are they releasing a Galaxy S 4G and a Vibrant 4G? I thought the Vibrant was just T-Mobile’s version of the Galaxy S. Or are you just purposely interchanging their names. Your previous articles that you’re linking to say Vibrant 4G but the photo says Galaxy S 4G. Another article says Vibrant Plus but the photos say Vibrant 4G and Galaxy S right under it.

    • Karlc

  • Bobblehead

I signed up. I’ll consider this when it comes out. I passed on the Nexus S because it did not support HSPA+ which TMo rolled out in my area recently.

I am still hoping the LG Optimus 2x comes to TMo and that it supports HSPA+.

Whatever I buy, if I find out the HSPA+ signal is weak where I live or work, it’s going right back to Tmo for a refund.

    • Stiffhead

I would be willing to bet HSPA+ will be weak!

      • Giest
