(Updated With Video!!) Motorola Announces The Cliq 2, Coming January 19th

Motorola has officially announced the Cliq 2, full of 4G love and a 1 Ghz processor. With Adobe Flash 10.1, 5 Megapixel camera and a 3.7” screen you’ll be able to pick up the Cliq 2 on January 19th! The Cliq 2 will sport Android 2.2 with Wi-Fi hotspot capability and DLNA sharing. Will anyone trade in their old Cliq for the improved Cliq 2?

i’m not sure why people aren’t more excited about this phone… i think the keyboard looks awesome, and having just come from owning a droid 2 (as well as plenty of other motorola phones in the past), I really think that the physical build quality of their phones is solid. just holding my droid 2 in one hand and my flimsy HTC G2 in the other reminds me of this.

People aren’t more excited about this phone because the original Cliq was horrible and everyone who owned it got shawshanked by Motorola.

    • ha

people aren’t excited because this is the ugliest phone released in the last 2 years. The chrome border is hideous and looks like a toy made for a barbie doll. The 1 GHz processor was current when the Nexus 1 came out this time LAST YEAR(!!!!!!!!!!), and the original Cliq is widely regarded as one of the worst cellular telephones in recent memory. Add to that the fact the OTHER cell phone companies have announced unbelievable, envelope-pushing, drool inducing phones, and you’ll start to get the picture

T-Mobile failed. Atrix 4G for At&t, Bionic for Verizon, and this POS for T-Mobile. Typical, always late to the party.

i swear tmo have no self respect…why do they keep accepting these crap.

After seeing the Motorola Xoom, the LG is just bleh…. Tmo reminds me of that old commercial about cheap plastic toys..

and that’s why they’re in 4th place in the game. no wonder why. I thought the new CEO is going to catch up with the game, but I guess not.

I’d rather they flesh out their ultra fast network then get a bunch of phones that never get updated anyway. I’ll stick with a Nexus One/S if I want updates to Android.

Wow a Cliq 2, will it ever see anything besides 2.2 in this lifetime?
Heck, Im returning my 4.3 screen size evo for this. Awesome that they kept the cliq moniquer, everyone will be lining up outside tmobile when it releases, it’ll be bigger than the Iphone.

i don’t think i’m upgrading to this. they should of utilized the space they left free on the keyboard and spaced the keys out to make it more comfortable. and at LEAST put a front facing camera to be up to date. i’ll pass, i have the cliq now, no need to tie myself down for another 2 years just for faster processing.

Just don’t. Don’t trust a t-mobile motorola phone to stay current or last longer than a few months. The updates will never come, the hardware is barely current enough to last, and the build quality is questionable.

  • timmyjoe42

I love this phone. The only thing my Cliq is lacking is horsepower which this one can provide. Having Moto’s first Android phone leaves me wanting more. I love their build quality and am happy to see the improvements in subsequent phone models.

Under the hood, sure I can live with it. However, personally, IMHO, it’s an ugly phone.

  • J-Hop2o6

Big improvement from Cliq 1.. but i’ll stick with my G2 (of course), and upgrade to a dual-core phone since i still can upgrade.

  • Him

The BEST thing about this video is the Magenta colored stapler. THAT is boss! A cliq2….really? Who wants this? The keyboard looks awful and just full of wasted space. I know not every device can be a major player, but with the fail that is the Cliq1 and Charm…they should have learned. Come on Motorola…take one of the many DROID branded phones you have saved for verzion and slap a T-mobile label on it.

  • Obnox113

For a light-android device this looks great. Not everyone needs the best, newest, fastest phone. Some just want basic functions of a smartphone for a cheap price. This fits that need along with the LG Optimus line. I’m happy with my G2, but I also got it cheap. If all the high-end Android phones were out of my price range I would be happy with a phone like this.

I’m just waiting out the two years on my Cliq, and then I will be moving away from Motoblur. I don’t trust Motorola to do right by their users anymore.

  • Mid

Wow rocky, I cant agree with you more. After all the things moto put cliq users through with that update they just kept dangling in front of us, only to finally release a half assed update almost a year after they said. I dont trust them AT ALL. Heh, at least this one comes with 2.2. Wonder how long cliq2 users will have 2.2 before it finally gets an update! lol
Truth be told they could bring out 20 new phones more powerful then anything currently out, if they dont support their users with updates that utilize it, whats the point?

  • Anonymous

Wow. it has a 1GHZ Processor. I honestly thought worse for this phone. Pretty good phone. I still wouldn’t touch it with a 10 foot pole though since Motorola is horrible when it comes to updates.

  • Bbrownell007

Great. Verizon and AT&T get all the hot phones and make the headlines, but all we get is this? What’s going on at T-Mobile? I don’t mean to be a downer, but have you seen Verizon and AT&T’s lineup? Don’t get me wrong, I’m still very happy with my myTouch 4G/HD but it won’t be long before it’s outdated and becomes like the Nexus One. Oh, I almost forgot, it’s already outdated thanks to all the dual core phones shipping with Android 2.3.

I need some salt because I am EATING MY WORDS about this phone. At $99 and those specs this phone is a BOSS. It ain’t for me but this shouldn’t even be called a Cliq 2 since its more than twice what the predecessor was and like half the price! Props to TMO for this phone. Now on to something bigger and better.

  • Chicken strom

Sweet phone love the keyboard moto has been know for those but as for morphine screw that going with my favorite home replacement app launcher pro or adwlauncher cause I hate motoblur cause it’s dumb but other then that it’s a sick phone

  • ha

is it safe to assume this will be provided as a free replacement for anyone who ever even touched the original Cliq? I would hope so, just imagine…IMAGINE if they tried to sell it for actual money…..phew

  • Ultimate Darkness X

I plan on getting it myself, I am impressed by what I am seeing statwise

  • http://twitter.com/arizdegenerate David Weekley

Piss poor choice of a name. After cliq and cliq xt users got prison F*CKED with the update fiasco both tmobile and Motorola felt this was the best name for this phone??? It’s like they are intentionally rubbing it in cliq users face that they sold them a p.o.s.

  • http://www.facebook.com/MatthewSki Matthew Kalinowski

doesnt look half bad my MT4G is still better

  • steve

i have to join in on all the “ugh, motoblur” comments. even motorola understands how bad blur is, considering they don’t stick it on any of their high end devices like the Droid. anyone considering this should just hold out for a few extra months while other companies like LG put together much better full keyboard android devices. they’re coming, I promise. and no, they won’t have that horrible G2 flip hinge.

  • Redbird416

What a joke Motorola did not take care of the cliq and the cliq xt why would anyone buy the cliq 2 no way Motorola
