    • Omega1rob

it’s gone and I really liked that one. The samsung one does not cap lock. :-(

      • Nick

It does caps lock. Hold the caps arrow for 2-3 seconds. It should turn blue with a white arrow.

        • Omega1rob

Thank you. But I still liked the android keyboard!

As others kindly pointed out for us:

In Android Market download the FREE Gingerbread keyboard. Once installed select hen on select it as the input method.

      It’s a fantastic keyboard.

See it here, on my Vibrant:

    Failed.

Kies mini never was able to connect to my phone, even though my phone thinks it’s connected. This may have to do with the fact that I’m running 64 bit Windows 7, and rumor is that Kies mini doesn’t run on 64 bit operating systems.

I get to look at the stupid “Please connect your mobile phone” message for hours, while the phone says it’s happily connected.

At least I didn’t brick the phone.

    Sorry Samsung, you fail.

    • Theref55

It works on my 64-bit Windows 7 Pro version without any issues. Samsung didnt fail on this one. Install was smooth – less than 20 minutes.

      • Anonymous

I suspect that it will work on 64Bit machines, Samsung is being cautious because on some people’s machines it might not work.

Same for the install should not delete pics and video, but Samsung says to still back up files, just to be safe.

Considering there’s millions of different computer configurations out there, it’s amusing to read people blaming Samsung for their problems.

For example, Samsung says on the page to use the cable that came in the box. This is because that’s a quality cable. Samsung knows that USB ports and cheap cables are notorious for failing.

On the ports people get dirt, dust, food, animal hair and all kinds of debris inside the ports. How many people in here have powered down the computer and used compressed air to clean the computer’s USB ports, especially the ones that are exposed and not being used.

And USB plugs and ports are pretty flimsy, they mechanically break down all the time. Doesn’t help when people jam the plug into the port until they figure out it is upside down.

Windows port software (drivers) get corrupted and simply stop working.

USB cables also can’t be too long. If too long the USB port’s 5 volts may not reach the device it needs to power. Same goes for thickness. Cables that are too thick may prevent a full 5 volts going to the device.

Lastly, USB cables are often cheap Chinese garbage. Those often fail to give a solid connection or they simply stop working.

End result, that’s why when friend’s and family call me for tech support I tell people to try a different USB cable, port or computer. (On my main desktop I have eight USB ports. Two of them in the front work and sometimes fail. When I use a quality USB cable, the proper length, the ports work fine.)

Sorry for this long post (not really). I am writing a book and plan on putting this post as an outline in MS Word, in the chapter on trouble-shooting.

Yeah, that’s right, I’m using you all. :)

It’s not a “rumor” that Kies Mini won’t run on 64 bit Windows, it says so on the website in the requirements.

      Specifically:

      COMPUTER

•Desktop/Laptop Computer Running 32bit Versions Of Either Microsoft Windows 7, Vista, or XP

•All Firewall & Anti-Virus Programs Should Be Disabled

•Administrative Privileges Required To Download & Install Software Including Drivers

•An Available USB Port On The PC

•Any Previous Samsung Kies Software Should Be Removed

      and Samsung says:

“Notice: Please back up all data such as your contacts, pictures, music, videos etc… prior to performing the update as data could be lost.”

      http://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa/jsp/faqs/faqs_view_us.jsp?SITE_ID=22&PG_ID=2&PROD_SUB_ID=557&PROD_ID=560&AT_ID=341559

People need to follow directions instead of blaming Samsung.

Your workaround, use someone’s 32 bit machine.

I have an 64-bit OS and installation was a breeze.

Finally got upgraded to 2.2 but I had to manually flash from JI5 (since Kies Mini kept on saying “Unregistered Device”) to JI6. After a successful flash to JI6 Kies Mini was able to see the upgrade.

My Vibrant’s S’AMOLED Screen looks like it got 10 billion times better. Much sharper and crisper…looks more like an HD Screen. Colors are more vivid and pure, and VERY BRIGHT. I don’t know anything else on the market that can top this screen. Amazing!!!

Updated mines last night runs great. Gallery nolonger freezes and phone seems quicker and data speeds are improved. For those who miss the android keyboard. Type keyboard in the market search and Download the gingerbread KB.

I have two vibrants…one for me and one for my wife. I first tried to upgrade mine on my home computer, running XP. This didn’t work. There was an error with the samsung usb driver. Because of this error, I would connect my phone via the usb cable, but kies mini wouldn’t recognize it and kept the “Please connect your mobile phone” message on the screen forever.

I finally gave us and went to my sister’s house to try on her computer which runs vista. I had no problems with the upgrade on her computer.

When I went home again, I had an idea. Back on my computer, I uninstalled kies mini and ran windows update. I updated everything except for office 2007. I chose “custom” in the updates and there were a bunch of software updates for my computer. I installed them all except for stuff related to office 2007. I reasoned the office 2007 can’t possibly be related to samsung or kies mini.

I reinstalled kies mini and tried upgrading my wife’s vibrant. This time it recognized the phone and the upgrade went well. Thus, I think running windows update was the difference for me…at least on my windows xp computer.

stupid kies thing bricked my phone. i even tryed to do the emergency recovery but even that failed. who knows , now i gotta wait a week to get a replacement. all hell is going to break loose if they charge me for this crap!!!

  • coyboy

first i had mistakenly downloaded the full-blown Kies software which would not recognize the phone. once i had Kies Mini everything worked great.

sadly, i could no longer send MMS, always receiving a server error message in reply. in my attempt to reformat my SD card, i had also wiped out all my stored photos as well (<– stupid mistake on my part, i know) and the MMS would still not function. after digging around, i wound up downloading GO SMS (i read that Chomp and Handcent will do as well) from the app store, and now i can send pics to my contacts. just kinda sucks that i need a 3rd party app to do something so basic.

  • Dgibbs711

my download is stuck at 68% and not moving what should i do ?

  • BIGG13

Any one having battery issues?? My battery seems to drain faster with this new update.

  • Alejandra

I think its pretty good. I like how we can have wi-fi calling now and the google app too. Although, there is no more android keybored(tear) but swipe isnt that bad.

Over all. I didnt experienced any problems downloading or anything and I like it (:

  • Teodulocontreras09

Besides avatar not working i havent had any problems. Very happy i upgraded, but i have to say that i was a little hesitant after reading many negative post. Very fast. Dont regret a thing.

Just upgraded to froyo 2.2 and everything was smooth, but I did notice that Kies wouldn’t recognize my Vibrant so I tried KiesMini and the same problem happened, so I decided to do an Update on the Kies Mini and my Vibrant was finally recognized and Upgraded with no problem whatsoever. So if you have any problems with Kies Mini make sure it is updated first. (NOTE: Don’t use Kies, make sure you use Kies Mini)

why does kies keep closing on my pc when i connect my phone

  • Maddog6066

i did the upgrade. Getting froyo in through kies was no problem. now that i have test driven froyo on my vibrant, i notice that my phone has slowed down. when i select my gallery, the phone was first making copies of my pics, i had double the pics, and my ring tones kept changing themselves i reset the phone and formated the internal memory, that helped some. its no faster or slower online, the tether feature wis nice, i already had pda net, but the newer flash player, wifi calling and tethering are not worth the new weirdness and slow down on my phone. i’m already looking for a way to change my phone back….so internet is the same speed but everything else the phone can do has been slowed. they say fixes are on the way, yeah right…how long are those going to take, and who will be letting us know. :(

oh yeah…you are only allowed to do the upgrade ONCE…so you cant try to redo the upgrade to try to smooth out the weirdness or slown down. i wont say dont do it, but wait for the fixes to come out so you wont look at your phone with disapointment. :(

I updated my phone last night through Mini Kies and so far it’s fine. I didn’t notice any increase or decrease in performance, but battery life seemed to really improve. I also like the ability to tether through USB or create a wifi hotspot, but I haven’t tried those out yet to see how they work. Wifi calling is a plus too.

Those of you having connection problems, on your phone make sure you go to Settings-Applications-USB Settings and select Kies. Mini Kies should then recognize it, select update and let it do it’s thing. It takes awhile so be patient and don’t touch the phone until completely finishes the update and goes back to the idle screen after rebooting.

Alright, here’s how IT WORKED for me.
I searched around a lot because when I first followed T-mobile’s directions (as posted above) windows 7 64bit wouldn’t recognize/mount my vibrant. All the info I saw about this operating system bricking phones while trying to update to froyo was pretty intimidating but, after culling all the advice that seemed to work for others, I had a go at it. These are the steps I took…
    1. register you vibrant with Samsung (if you haven’t already)
    2. download kies mini from the link in T-Mobile’s instructions (again, posted here, above)
    3. install kies mini (you will have to restart your computer) AND THEN RUN IT ONCE WITHOUT CONNECTING YOUR VIBRANT. This updates kies mini to its newest version.
    4. close kies mini and on your vibrant tap settings, tap applications, tap usb settings, TAP KIES. THEN under developer setting TAP USB DEBUGGING
    5. return to the phone’s home screen and follow the rest of T-Mobile’s instructions as they say.

Updated to froyo in about 5minutes with no further issues. Once phone was rebooted and disconected i went back into the phone’s settings; turned off usb debugging and swiched usb setting to “ask when connected.”

Do this and you should be ready to rock. Hopefully you found these instructions so much faster than it took me to tease them from multiple sites/posts/comments.
