This would be cool if I hadn’t finally gotten tired of waiting on Samsung and rooted my Vibrant and put Nero beta 2 room on it. It’s basically the same OS as the Nexus S and this phone is amazing now. If you’ve never rooted before I’d say reconsider, but really be careful if you try it. The phones we have are way better if you root than they are stock. My Vibrant is now so fast apps and dialogs open instantaneously and the battery life sans touchwiz is such that I no longer carry my cable to work. I’ve gotten 12+ hours of battery life with GPS/wifi/bluetooth enabled and in a 3G area. ?And all my friends who root report similar.

      • B3rusty

thank you all, no bull i just called up, dude said hold on let me check if that is true (when i asked about the free g2 upgrade), he came back and said “since your 2 yr contract is up you can extend for 22 more months and get x2 new g2′s to upgrade”. i almost bought x2 new g2′s 4 days ago at the mall to upgrade our g1′s but i couldn’t bring myself to pay the $450 or so bill but this is pretty sweet that it is now free. total bill was like $5 for shipping and thats it. DON’T BELIEVE IT, THEN CALL T-MOBILE FOR YOURSELF AND FIND OUT.

No dice. However, apparently I don’t have account rights… when i’m the one who pays the bill. But thats beside the point, the first girl played coy with no knowledge of a free G2, however the guy seems to know but wouldn’t spit it out due to me not being able to access account. Hopefully they are still doing it in 9 hours when i can call with the account holder.

  • Loyal TMO

well it would work, but i would have to get data which is gay…or i could do the bogo offer. So it works people

I just wasted a buncha time dealing with their reps acting like idiots. First rep put me on hold for a long time because she said the info was “taking too long to appear on her comp.” I pressed her about the free G2 but she said that was only for family plans, aka you need at least two lines on your account. I said i did, but she insisted there’s only one line. When i gave her the second number, she said it didn’t qualify cause it was a “regular line,” so i could only get the G2 with a discount ($217). After failing with her, i tried again and got a dude who swore on his life that my pin/last four of SSN didn’t match up with my number, despite the fact i had just spent 15 minutes with another rep who acknowledged it was my pin. I’m fed up with this, i’ve been with them almost 3 years now and they’re acting like they don’t know what’s going on. Further calls were immediately hung up on after entering my CORRECT pin/ssn until i finally gave up when i got a robot telling me their call center is closed til 6am.

Is this still working for anyone else? I’m not trying to abuse, i honestly need a new phone damnit.

  • Frustrated

Called 4 times and just this last time was told the whole thing was a scam and that all of you leaving comments were scammers and lying…Just saying!! I also cancelled all 3 lines due to the fact that in calling 4 times that one of my services had a price increase that I did not know about. They claim that I went online and changed it to a higher price almost 2 yrs ago. Like I would change it from the cheaper one to a higher one.. Makes no sense, anyway they said that since it had been so long they can’t switch it back. So after 8yrs and 200 a month they can suck it. I will take my 200 a month a my 3 line over to Sprint and check out the EVO or Verizon and give the Droid a shot!! Peace out to TMOBILE and a Merry Christmas to all

    • Blkbear_41

Wow really? I got through to CRS without a problem, and the person I talked to, knew what I was talking about and didn’t have any problems setting it up. Now it may be due to my contract being up in Jan, and already have the full upgrade on my line. Only been with TMO since Sept 2008, so it’s not like I have been with them for years and years.

You did end up with a Loyalty CRS and not a regular one right?

    • Guest

Doesn’t matter to me where you go and if you over payed you have a right to be mad…Just don’t go get screwd at Sprint… The EVO sucks…seriously. I tested it for three days and wanted to throw it against the wall. I am more than sure Verizon would be the better alternative. Sprint service and phones SUCK!

    • UnKnowN

Ha ha except that 200 over at sprint will actually be 300 have fun.

    • DatNizzle

Ha ha, funny story. Besides it took you 2 yeard to notice a price increase? Sounds like Verizon is the place for you. Can I have your phones, since they will be useless to you?
By the way I lied and scammed my way into a new G2.
I would at least hold out for a decent phone. I’d rather have a G2 than either of those.

Got the free G2 deal tonight at 9:30 PST. All I paid for was the shipping, which was in the $5.00 range. Have only been a T-mobile customer since 2008.

Also no activation fee, no upgrade fee. Got to keep Myfaves.

    Plan I opted for is $69.99, 1000 mins free N&W, unlimited text/web/email.

They did have a promo running for 1500 anytime mins,(no N&W) unlimted text/web/email for $79.99

    • Ultimate Darkness X

Actually that promo plan included Nights, Weekends, and M2M

      • Blkbear_41

May have gotten it confused with one of the other options the rep was talking about that didn’t come with N&W.

    • http://twitter.com/Wicked_1 Ronnae Dominique

Yeah, thats the deal I got, including free night and weekends and free mobile to mobile. I don’t need it though, might call back when I get my phone and lower to the 1000 whenever, save myself $10 dollars, and that’s what I had before.

  • Red Chicago

I tried it and was told i did not qualify for the free g2 cause i had 11month left on my contract, but was offered it at 149.99 free shipping and upgrade fees. I called again to see if i could get better deal but was offer 249.99, then 149.99 once again free expedited shipping and fees. Called a 3rd time and was offered 149.99 free ground shipping and fees, and i asked about $20 data instead of $30 and was giving that, so i took it cause i have mytouch 4g and my girlfriend has old g1, she really needed a g2.

  • Sortega62

I try and they said there is no such thing???..can someone help plz thanks…

  • g2 user

this has been going on since last week

  • Trillistic

wow just saw this at 1138 pm easterntime called up the rep and got 1 free g2.. im soo happy because i was gonna go shell out 199+tax for one this weekend.. sweet offer tmobile… im NEVER SWITCHING CARRIERS

  • Laddot

    Yup Got it!

  • Champcar

Got this deal yesterday. My line was not upgradable but I was able to put a 2 year contract on my @home line and use the free G2 on my line, also received free shipping, no upgrade fee and was able to lower both of my data lines to $20.

  • Julia

Dang shipping is super fast, rep & I were friendly so she gave me free express shipping yesterday on my free G2 order with an estimated shipping date of tomorrow but UPS shows “out for delivery” today! (Use the phone number of the line you upgraded to “track by reference number”) can’t wait to root this sexy beast and play with her all day.

    • http://twitter.com/Wicked_1 Ronnae Dominique

How is that? What state are you in? Mine was ordered on Friday and still hasn’t shipped yet

      • Julia

        I’m in Texas

    • Champcar

Dang, mine says it wont ship till the 27th.

Just checked UPS, delivery on the 22nd! Gotta love Tmo

    • http://twitter.com/sonnysunshine sonnysunshine

i cant track my order, maybe i should call them

  • Phlly

I wasn’t eligible for the full upgrade, but the rep was able to find for me the phone for $74.99 after a $50 MIR. I thought this was as sweet as it was going to get.

Anyone want to now buy my almost new Vibrant?? :)

    • Phlly

Forgot to say no activation fee and free express shipping. Should be here tomorrow! :)

      • Bob

Good luck getting that MIR if you don’t have the full 22 months in you will have your rebate denied. Bet they forgot to mention that.

        • Gary

Yep. They did that to me when I upgraded my Vibrant. That was a fun call to try to get them to honor the MIR. They finally credited my account since the rep neglected to inform me of that little tidbit of information.

  • http://twitter.com/Wicked_1 Ronnae Dominique

Oh, now i see mines, T Mobile tell you to look up reference with your cell number with the dashes, but you are supposed to enter it with out them. Mine should be delivered today, its already arrive in L.A.

  • http://twitter.com/JoshElaye Josh Answer Elaye

Worked like a charm… i was on the even more plan and they just upgraded my plan to the 10 dollars extra a month but at least i can upgrade without such a hassle.. and i got a free phone… :D
and to think i was about to quit t mobile and go with sprint for the epic… :D…
    — also.. i haven’t upgraded my phones within tmobile since like 2005 and they said its about time i upgrade my phone.. lol, i usually go through craigslist for upgrades… but craigslist aint FREE :D

    • http://twitter.com/sonnysunshine sonnysunshine

i was like the same thing, i was bout to go to sprint for the epic too, but i took this deal right away, i have a cliq and im happy now

  • Tmob999

Just called tmobile 20 mins ago and got mine!! Happy Holidays!
They waved the express shipping with 5.99 insurance plan too, customer since 2005

  • Btookz

do you have to pay the taxes on the phone

    • Tmob999

I wasnt notified of paying anything other than the insurance for $5.99 and express shipping which I had waved because I hesitated on buying the insurance. I just said I am a G1 owner and was curious what promotions there is now for new phones such as the G2. She basically made it clear to me that I was qualified for a full upgrade and the G2 was free today only and I kept the same plan I am currently on which is 5 yrs old. Data/text/calling all remain same for next two yrs.

    • http://nobulb.com Michael Greenberg

I was charged 5.20 for shipping and I agreed to renew my 2 year contract. Nothing more.

I need help here. I have a Moto Cliq with 1 year left in contract and I’m planning on getting this deal. Will they change my plan? I currently have Family plan with 5 lines. Unlimited Messaging and Web.

    • UnKnowN

you wont get the deal if you are under contract still. Read the post need to be 22 or more months since last upgrade. May get a discount but not free.

    • http://twitter.com/Wicked_1 Ronnae Dominique

Call and see, people who are not up for a full upgrade were getting the deal. Plus you have the always problematic Cliq

  • Kenny D.

Customer rep told me it had to be 22 months for me to get the full discount :( right now they would sell the phone to me for $44.95

  • Erik

I just called in and the rep said there is no such promo going on. Broken english and i’m questioning her facts based on everyone still posting here.

  • Ken

Snoozed and lost again. I guess that’s what I get for not checking tmonews obsessively every 5 minutes.

    • DatNizzle

If by “every 5 minutes” you mean once a day, than yes. That kinda thing is why I check this site, once a day.
Set up a rss feed to your phone, if the title interest you, inquire further.

  • Jimmy

What the heck, my wife’s contract is up and I have another 8 month to go and customer loyalty said 149 for her and 249 for me. How is that a good deal? She mentioned that the last promo was half a month ago. What am I missing?

  • MeanBean

Just talked to TMobile. Don’t waste your time like I just did. Its a lie!!!!!!!!!

    • Champcar

Not a lie, maybe you just missed out.

    • http://tmonews.com David

It’s not a lie, plenty of people had success with it, I wouldn’t have posted it if it was a lie!

    • Ktrapdogg

i got me one i just had to agree to new two year contract

  • Socal

Was quick and painless, been out of contract for about a month, just called and threaten to leave for the att/iphone offered me the free G2 right away with free expedited shipping so i get it by xmas.

    • jabber

      No way

  • Dnice3090

just asking, are you guys (those who are not getting the deals) saying contract on the automated service?

  • Dnice3090

just asking, are you guys (those who are not getting the deals) saying contract on the automated service?

  • jabber

What bull shite. It has been 24 months since I have gotten another phone and they are trying to charge me 149! They said it was a pricing error, and that there is no discount like that.

  • Niles

This was definitely legit. I called three different times on 12/20. THe first was to find out if it was legit and what the catch was. The second to actually place the order after I talked to my wife about it. The third was to ask about getting a free G2 for a new line. The third time was the only time I got someone that didn’t know what I was talking about. I think you just need to call back if you get someone that says it’s not free.

    • Greed

No, pay close attention. The post on tmo new said it was a sale for qualifying upgrades. A new line would be what….oh, I new line. That’s hard to understand, isn’t it.

      • Blkbear_41

Not to pick nits but, “any qualified to upgrade line.” NOT new line.

  • Robert

I tried ordering today and they said the deal was no longer available. I have been with tmobile for almost nine years now so i was kinda angry. I called back a half hour later threatening to cancel because it is bogus that the deal was canceled less than 24 hours from the story being posted online, and switch to sprint for the evo. The rep then said that isnt correct and put in an order for a g2 then credited my account for the price of a new g2 and it is in the mail. So even though the deal is no longer available, i still got a free g2.

Generally if you threaten to cancel or say “contract cancel” to the robot the customer service rep will go out of their way to keep you from doing so, and i am glad because i actually like t mobile. They have once again kept me happy.

    • guest

did you have to extend your contract?

      • Robert

Yes i did, but i planned on it anyway.

    • guest

did you have to extend your contract?

    • http://tmonews.com David

They are right, I just updated the story, the deal is over!

    • Brian

Unbelievable. Why don’t all of you cancel and go to another company and pay out of the ass for your monthly bill, and then we’ll see you back on T-Mobile once you realize how great you really had it here.

  • Jameskeescox

I got it about 2:30 eastern today. My contract wasn’t ready for renewal until April. The lady asked me if she could call me back after 15 minutes and she did. When she called me, she stated that because I had been a member for so long they would give it to me. Perfect present for the wife! I’ve never had anything bad to say about this company. I will now stop complaining about my Vibrant not getting Froyo 2.2. :)

  • P Eazy415

wow they said this was a 24hr promo that ended at 12p they time. im in sf and im like im an hour late she said naw your 4hrs late im on the east coast LAMMMEEE tmobile needs to step up FAST

    • http://tmonews.com David

Can’t be mad at them for having a deal that ended, had to take advantage of it sooner!

    • ivan

this is a customer that goes into a fast food place and expects breakfast to be served at 2pm when its stops serving it at 10am

  • Don

I did this yesterday afternoon, Pacific time. I called 611 and said ‘contract’. Did not hang up and wait for a callback as suggested by the automated voice, just waited 2 minutes for a rep. Said I would like to upgrade my line and get a G2. i did not mention anything about it being free, just waited to see what he would say. He checked and said, I qualified for a ‘free’ G2 and he would throw in three days shipping via UPS for free, just needed to agree to the 24 months extension and get one of the web plans. Painless and easy for me.

  • Jmmckeough

Sorry for being off Topic but I called 611 and said Contract. This put me in touch with the Loyalty retention team. I wanted to see if my wife’s and son’s lines had a full upgrade, they want the MyTouch 4G. Then I asked questions about my rate plane, have the 1800 my faves plan. Long story short he reduced my 20 unlimited familt text to 10.00 a month and knocked down the $30 dollar internet plans on my wifes and sons lines to $ 20.00 unlimited and mine from 25.99 to 20.00 and I also get to keep my corporate discount.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_LCY5NAMEIUQ5WFAZ3WZSIT52X4 Mary Jane

No good for me. Tried today “worded poorly” and “in error”. The rep would not even drop price of Android cost to $20. 5 year customer as of 1/2011. I was in no mood to try to “push” for anything today. But, may try to tomorrow. Oh, the rep did offer to sell me the phone at a “highly discounted rate” of $249.00. I laughed and said “no thanks”!

    • Blueski9000

cellphone providers do not owe you a thing, they are a utility company, so if you don’t like it move on, does comcast give you a free TV, or the electric company give you a free washer, get over it !

      • http://twitter.com/skozsert James Treszoks

We pay for the “free phones”, I would prefer if our wireless bills were more like Europe’s since I usually buy my own phones but there is no free lunch here.

        • GG

If you were planning on keeping the preexisting plan for 2+ years despite contract/ no contract, it is essentially a free phone. That is of course if you already had the right plan in place (services etc)

  • http://twitter.com/Wicked_1 Ronnae Dominique

Yeah, my sister tried today, she’s up for partial upgrade and they are telling her $200 something. I told her yesterday, and she called but both times she did the hold time was like 25+ mins and she didn’t stay on the phone and wait. I’m gonna call and change my plan today though, when I get my phone. I have the limited 1500 whenever, free night, weekends, and mobile to mobile, with unlimited texts & web for $79, but I’d rather have the 1000 whenever for $69 that I have heard some mention, plus my corporate discount

I love T-Mobile! Ordered mine yesterday, and it came today! I didn’t get a free G2, but it was discounted which is fine with me because I really wanted one. Now, off to explore me new G2.

Thank you T-Mobile, and thank you TmoNews for telling me about this offer!

  • Steven Andrew Miller

I’ve been a customer for over ten years (since they were VoiceStream) and when I called they did nothing to accommodate me. This was the last straw, so I canceled. I’ve had my fill of being treated like I don’t matter.

    • Guest

I don’t understand why you feel you’re entitled to this deal. It is what it is, a temporary promotion. It does not belong to you. If you could not get it, then tough luck. I’ve had tmobile/voicestream for ten years too, but I don’t think I should have it all for free. If you have complaints that’s understandable but don’t go around with a sense of entitlement. You just come off as pretentious and rude.

      • Steven Andrew Miller

It isn’t a matter of entitlement. If I had called an hour earlier (which I was not able to) they would have given me the phone for free. What is the difference to T-Mobile? Instead they have lost a four line customer who has been paying them monthly for a decade. Surely that cost them a hell of a lot more than the $150 it would taken to make me happy (and locked me in for another two years). The point is that in the last 18 months I’ve notice a seriously decline in T-Mobile’s customer service and their refusal to accommodate me was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

I get the hint: only new customers matter.

        • santa

Oh let’s say you’ve been shopping at Walmart for let’s say ten years and they are having BOGO on T.V.s and you show up an hour late and don’t get the deal. Are you seriously going to stop going to Walmart because YOU couldn’t stop in. T-mobile isn’t a non profit company and I’m sure it had nothing to do with the customer service, I’ve been a customer for years and I know they do everything to keep a customer. Instead of being a needy person because you read deal that was announced on a unofficial blog, you probably should have written in.

        • Really,No 4g?

The point is all customers in the same boat want the same deal for retention. Too many other providers with better network coverage and devices offered are out there. You build wealth on making your customers happy. Try Nordstrom the next time you go shopping. WalMart is a hell hole with good prices on electronics.

        • GG

If you go to another carrier and end up paying more instead of keeping your four lined grandfathered plan, I think in the end you’re the one who has lost, not T-Mobile.

I just called and they gave me a free G2. Guess they just didn’t like you and you weren’t good enough. Granted they had called me 2 weeks ago but I returned the phone call after I made my decision and they were nice enough.

Sprint tries to help but they are clueless, AT&T couldn’t get it right if you paid them and Vzw just doesn’t give a s#!t… Again, I wish you the best. Good luck with those Unlimited Data plans…
