Can’t seem to get through to loyalty and am told that it’s only for people out of contract and that those within contract are NOT eligible. Offered me the same $249 blah blah blah, and wouldn’t offer any loyalty data.

To those who got the deal, congrats. I may try again later but it’ll be my last time.

One free G2 w/ free shipping with one phone call. Though the rep. did have to get approval through their supervisor. All & all it wasn’t a confusing order or perhaps I just lucked out on this one.

Please don’t post this on here…. We would much rather help customers that are really having a bad time and that really want to cancel then some geek that just wants another phone to hack…..Our job is hard enough

    • Dswagg2k10

I’m one as well. I dont mind helping a customer get a good deal, but this post will drain the availability for customers that really need it… e.i. 8 and 10 year customers vs 2 yr customers that think they deserve the same treatment. #Vent #ThatIsAll

Im a 9 year customer (voicestream days…gold nokia ring a bell) but my mom used my upgrade on my phone. My bro and i need new ones but i dont want to abuse the system. Do you think we would qualify for it?

I was going to switch to AT&T and get the iPhone if it wasn’t for tmonews.com and this offer so be a little grateful maybe instead of attacking this cool website which is promoting you. In reality this phone should not be more then $50-$100 with a 2 year contract, it’s just not as good as an iPhone

      • Anonymous

One of these days I’ll try the iphone…when they build it right and it’s not on ATT.

      awwww wahhhhh

I agree with that. I hadn’t upgraded since the G1, and after TMO screwed up my preorder and account info, forcing me to get on the phone with them several times after waiting up to an hour on hold, I feel that I have this free offer coming to me. I don’t really…. but it kept me from dumping TMO, which I was about to do. This is good business practice which should be reserved for customer retention of those who haven’t upgraded recently.

      • Elexsor

You are right. I just got my phone upgrade to the G2 from the KRZR of which I have had since like 06. I was considering leaving Tmobile and going for Verizon as it was about time to upgrade the phone to a new one (battery life is crap now). They called at the right time (about 1-2 weeks ago). I thought about it and then called them back and upgraded the phone today. I’m now a Tmobile customer for another 2 year and in all honest probably another 4. I only get a new phone about every 4 years or so. I have been with TMO for around 9-10 but have only had two phones. Smart business… cause guess what. I now have a data plan for $15 more a month.

    • Maruichan

OMG THANK YOU FOR THIS! lol idk caps is a cool button… Well – thanks to this i called earlier today and got it for free with free express shipping as a “Cyber Monday Deal” based on one of the reps. $20 unlimited web and text deal so im paying around 75/month – eh nice :D. Call 611 – say “contracts” then ask about the free G2, my rep was so surprised about this deal I think she wanted to do it as well lol, I accepted the 2 year contract thing and I was good to go – took a good 15 minutes and I was happy.

just got 2 free g2′s with free express shipping, phones will be delivered in 2-3 days, right before christmas!! nice! But i did not read the instructions before i called 611 the first time and the rep had no clue about the deal and did not give it to me. Then I re-read the instructions and said “contract” to the automated system and got to the right department, asked for the free g2 deal and got it right away!!! I LOVE T-MOBILE!!! Been with them since 1999 when I had Voicestream!! Nice to know that they have these great offers for long term customers too!! Thanks for posting this deal tmonews!!!

  • Yznsfcn

i just got it..its totally free. no upgrade fee or shipping fee. i have been with tmobille for more than 10 yrs

  • Just another TMO customer

I just tried a second time, unfortunately was quoted the $204 price both times. I’m at the 21 month mark on my contract. While I understand TMO or any other carrier wanting an account to carry out the contract term before offerring anymore subsidies, the closer I get to a being out of contract the better my chances of jumping carriers. My situation, I either wait another 30 days for the 22 month mark or 90 days to broaden my choices altogether. If I was able to get the G2, I would have gladly extended another 2 years with a data plan. Whereas, that Iphone is looking more and more like a choice now. Who knows, maybe a quad core Andorid 4.0 phone with 3 cameras will be out by then.

Hey if you can get yours… then get it. I have been with them for 9 years now and they wouldn’t do anything for me with this tack ass slide. If your getting better service than I have good for you.

Just got in on this deal. I had to rearrange my plan to do so because I still was using @Home for my home phone line so I just switched my 2 other individual lines to a family plan & added an extra line for $10 a month while getting rid of the @Home. The $10 a month line has only 200 minutes but I still have a few older UMA calling enabled phones lying around so my calls will be unlimited as long as Im at home anyways. Been dying to replace my CLIQ for months & now I finaly can. Been with T-Mobile since 2004 & will continue to do so if they keep things like this up.

Called 611, got customer care, @ first tried to sell me the phone for $217. I asked aren’t they free, put me on hold for about 5 min, came back & said yes we can get u this phone FREE! s & h for $4.99, should get it in 7 days!! I CAN WAIT!! Thanks, tmobile

  • Tony

I have a G2…paid $99 as a pre-order back in September. I knew this phone would be free eventually, but I couldn’t wait…oh well. If you can get a G2, get one. It is definitely the fastest Android device on the market…the processor is WAY underclocked and can run stable at 1.5GHZ all day long. And it has such a high-quality metal feel compared to the MyTouch and Nexus S.

  • nain77

called a few hours ago, all i asked was “when is my contract up” and she told me i was 13 months into my 2 year agreement. i told her “do you guys have any good android phones like sprint and verizon?” me pretending to not really know what im talking about and then she goes “we can send u a G2 free of charge with a new 2 year agreement” i go on pretending not to know anout phones n such….5 minutes later “a G2 will be delivered to your address in about 2-3 business days” i payd $0.00…HOW I LOVE TMOBILE!!! i get aaround 2-3 mbps on 3G, and one time spiked up to 5mbps. that was on the HD2 though. now time to try on a 4G enabled device!!

Scored THREE on my first try, only caveat was that internet was req’d on all handsets. They wanted 30/mo each, talked ‘em down to 20. I already had one line w/internet and was upgrading the other two anyway so it worked out perfectly. As young John Connor would say, “easy money!”

Guys key is ask for loyalty on the auto service..then confirm the rep is part of the loyalty department. If you didn’t so this try again. I said contract as this article said to do and I got an account exec who quoted me a 150 dollar price to upgrade and said he had no free g2 promotion. I’m a long time tmobile client and i had a full upgrade on my line. Try following what I did see if it works. They also gave me free expedited shipping

Wow that’s great! I pre-ordered mine and paid 249.99 for it and had to send two back for un-related issues to the hinge (actual issues) and T-Mobile charged me for a while for three phones. Resolved. All these fantastic deals… learned my lesson to NEVER pre-order a phone. Just wait a month and get it for f’n free. Logically to pre-order anything you get screwed… how does that make any sense? ARGH!

  • Mely1124

AWSOME!!!!, just got off the phone w/ Tmobile got my G2 for free (was the phone I was going to upgrade to anyway)internet @ $20 less then what I was paying for my bberry internet service. Thanks for posting!!!

    • Tmo…

      @Mely1124 – how did u get the $20 data fee ?

      • Mely1124

when I called I asked them if they could tell me when my contract was up and if I was available for an upgrade. The guy at costumer service asked me what phone i wanted to upgrade to and I told him the G2 … not because of this posting but because that’s the phone I really wanted. He then went on and told me about the internet service fee and that the rate was $30 but that he could lower that for $20. I have been with T-mobile for 10+years not even sure how long but its been a loooong time. I think that might have something to do with it ;)

Just ordered mine, free expedited shipping too. I had to say “contract,” I tried the “loyalty” option and it said okay, you want to cancel. There was a bit of a wait, it looks like people are either on top of this deal or just ordering for Christmas. The rep was like, thank you for being a loyal customer for the past decade, and he also said right at the start that he was in the loyalty department. I then I just said I was looking to upgrade, I wanted an Android phone with a keyboard and he said I can get you that for free, and because of the holidays we know you’ll want it right away so I’ll give you the $19.95 shipping for free. I’ve been waiting and watching all the different sources for a good deal on one of these newer phones, and I’m very happy with free.

  • Rhinestone

I had 6 months left on my line, but the first rep wouldn’t give me a price under $200 because the deal for a free phone is actually for those with a full upgrade due, and I fell short. I called back to explain I had seen the offer on this site; got offered the phone for $100, which is the cost to break my contract and go somewhere else. I have G1 that’s barely working and I took the offer; it’s better than trying to get by with yet another G1 for 6 months longer. Thanks for posting this! I didn’t get it for free, but it certainly helped me get 50% off :)

    • g2pioneer

you have $50 mir. for that I think.

  • hmm?

i just did this deal and was wondering if i could have gotten a better deal.. i had a g1 and with unlimited everything for 85 a month and a sidekick with unlimited everything for 70 a month and got the g2s free and put them on the unlimited loyalty family plan which makes both lines $80 for talk instead of the individual UL 49.99 each and added 34.99 unlimited data plan and 5.99 insurance on each because they were claiming there was no cheaper data plan than that one .

  • Ebatr8

This deal will go away soon do to this abuse of it you may argue that you deserve it blah blah blah I don’t call my electricity and complain to get a free month because I been with them a long time when stuff like this is posted things go away for the true people that need it or actually deserve it, this is the reasowhy tmo may not get as many high end phones because so many possible high subsidies go to eastwind people that do not deserve it, there use to be way better offers available but no more do to this type of stuff its unfortunate that tmonews post stuff like this, there’s a difference between posting a sale and something not meant for everyone some people here may think that its good that now they are happy now with tmo but its truly few customers that are truly loyal those customers the rep can give em a deal like this anyday no matter what phone there’s certain things reps look for when they decide to do something for you not just how long u had service that don’t matter if you hardly pay anything.

    • Mely1124

I think this should be left to T-mobile’s discretion to decide what customer deserves this deal. T-mobile can easily decline some inqueries if they wanted to.

      • Brian

it’s people like this, and blog posts like this that will hurt the true loyal customers in the long run. Don’t abuse the loyalty department just because you want a G2 for free. I love TmoNews, but I had a little more respect for David before he posted this. David, you talk about the integrity of T-Mobile and you speak about wanting the company to succeed, yet you put up blog post which hurt T-Mobile’s bottom line and quite frankly, hurt all T-Mobile customers in the long run. T-Mobile needs to invest more money and resources into their awesome network and industry changing rate plans and services instead of employing more customer care reps to field calls from the vampires who read this blog. I had higher standards for you David.

        • Anonymous

Its people like all you three that like to ruin the fun for everyone else

        • Loyal Customer

How do they ruin it for everybody? It’s articles like this that ruin it for everybody, telling everybody to swarm the T-Mobile loyalty department demanding a free G2.

        • tktv

How did the article ruin anything for tmobile? (I was one of many that took advantage of the G2 offer only because I happened to read it on this blog and I too am a long-time, loyal tmobile customer.)

What I think you fail to see is that this is a great gorilla marketing campaign. It’s the churn they’re worried about and frankly, I’m willing to bet they have a more than they expected stock of G2s sitting around. (And with the iPhone 4 selling for $149 on contract right before Christmas — at Sam’s Club –, there may be one or two tmobile customers who would be willing to take advantage of that offer and give it as a gift to themselves or others.)

What’s more valuable to tmobile’s bottom line? Subscriber contracts or stock of G2s on hand?

If you were like me, you had to extend your contract 24 months for this “special, hush-don’t-tell-anyone” offer. That means tmobile just made it’s money back and then some on the two “free” phones they “gave” me because for just for those two lines that I upgraded (out of the five lines I have total), tmobile gets approximately $120 a month for the next 24 months from me and I think $2880 more than covers the price they paid HTC for the phones that they “gave” me for “free”.

Had I not read about it here, I wouldn’t have acted and tmobile wouldn’t have been able to count me in the plus column of subscribers.

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ASLY6MKMKHP2HSETXPT73RZNPA infantry11b

My stance on it is that if you get a customer to stay, that’s one less that verizon or at&t can claim they added.

        • ximage

Its funny how you guys make it sound like tmobile is going to lose something for giving away the phone but in fact people have to lock in 2 more years of contract with at least $20 worth of data plan. Which basically pay for the phone and more really.
Its not like people are getting the phone and cancel the services then ebay it. Also all the people that called tmobile can easily walk away and hop on other networks which would hurt tmobile more. They made the long term customers happy and knowing they got them lock for 2 more years. It’s a win win situation really for them.

    • DatNizzle

I deserve it because i’m due an upgrade. I didn’t have to demand anything. I asked if they had a special on the G2, and he said yes, was happy about it even. It is a Cyber Monday deal that got extended. That’s what I was told anyway. If it hurt T-mobile thay wouldn’t do it. So buying stuff on sale is wrong.
