Oh snap and I was just a minute late loading up the live stream and missing Google CEO Eric Schmidt showing off a Nexus S device. The most important part of this? This as of yet “unannounced” Nexus S device was clearly running on the T-Mobile network! Boom, Nexus S! Any questions?

Hmmmm… but this or keep with Nexus One…. hmmm Why won’t Google or T-Mobile just make it easy and just give me this new phone for “loyal service’. :)

    • deadinditches

The same reason your favorite clothing line doesn’t give you anything for loyal service.

      • Beanz0nToast

The same reason the supermarket doesn’t give you a free gallon of milk just because you’ve been shopping there for 8 years!

I was watching it and got aroused when he showed it! I cant wait !

Still no word on if it’ll be sold at the retail store though:(

    • J-Hop2o6

hopefully it does.. but i have a feeling it’ll go to other Retail stores (Best Buy).. but Tmo is makin moves tho.. 2011 [and 2H-2010] is Tmo’s year!!

      • deadinditches

        It’s going to retail locations.

  • Edward Mullens

Seriously, this is one boring looking phone. Does anybody see this as appealing to anyone other than the small section of geeky males who make up the “android or die” subset? It looks pretty identical to the rest of the Galaxy S phones, same glossy plastic, same curvy shape. All of the hype for Gingerbread, and from all the screenshots it looks about the same as Froyo. Which is say, Where is the dramatic UI graphical revisions we were expecting when they hired the new UI guy? This is starting to be a really dismal trend with Android. Geeks getting everybody hyped up about new Android versions, and then turning out to be incremental changes that go from 2.2 to 2.3, say, with nothing substantive that any normal person would even notice.

    • zazou

Would it hurt Samsung to try and use some other material besides cheap plastic?

      • mtnman

Why does everyone equate plastic with cheap? Maybe it’s just me, but look at the corvett it’s mostly all Fiberglass and a majority of the population loves it. As a matter of fact most of the car industry uses fiberglass or plastic body molding and they don’t think it’s cheap. A lot of people still belive that it if don’t have all metal or a metal back on it then it’s cheap. Haveing plastic also makes the phone cost come down so the masses can afford it as well as new plastic design as been improved to be stronger.

So again maybe it’s just me, but I don’t care if it’s plastic or metal as long as what’s under the hood it good.

        • DatNizzle

So it’s plastic so they can offer it to the masses? I’m sure it’s going to be the same price as every other smart phone…If not more. When I saw the other pics I was like, “Wow another Galaxy S phone.” Not to mention how thick and bulky it looks. I’m sure its fast though.

    • threetee14

the whole “gingerbread going through dramatic revisions” was a mix-up because it turns out it was going to be only 2.3.

the one you’re looking for is likely honeycomb, which will be 3.0.

  • JP

TMO stepping up the game. I do hope all this work pays off. BTW. Loving the MT4G

    • Vibrant Guy

      Agreed. MT4G is great…really nice.

      • thaghost

double agree, lol. i love it.

  • bbman911

Meh, Sammy already has the last dollar I’ll ever throw at them when I bought the Vibrant. I don’t care how fast the processor is, it needs to be fast to overcome that laggy RFS system.

    • J-Hop2o6

yea, they need to drop that BS .rfs file system and stick with the normal .ext2/3

  • somebody

so any guesses at what preprocessor will be in this thing

    • somebody

      ^^^ dam spell check processor*

  • lbdagreat1

I will never rob peter to pay paul for this phone, but I will rob my left hand so my right hand can be happy holding this baby!! YEAH BABY

Nice stock live wallpaper as well in the video. This will make my Vibrant just a tad obsolete though…

  • Disgruntled G2 Owner

I own a G2 and am very near the 14 day return deadline. I was wondering, If I return my G2 and swap for a MyTouch (I have had problems with my handset) can I then still return the MyTouch within 14 days as well. The purpose of doing all this being buying time until the Nexus S is released? Thoughts?

p.s. I bought the G2 at retail price.

    • somebody

i think you can but im no expert on this

    • Shawn

Yes, you just want to make sure you fully return the G2, then re-purchase the MyTouch, do not do an exchange because it will not start a new 14 day trial period.

      • Gossips

If you fully return it you will no longer be eligible for upgrade pricing. Short answer is NO there is no way to do what he wants

    • TuffKritic

If you payed Full Retail at a T-Mobile Store then you have 30 Days to return/exchange it. and the the final return/exchange date remains the same from your original purchase.

      • Disgruntled G2 Owner

Mixed answers here.. Tuffkritic: are you sure about the 30 day return period? I remember explicitly asking about a 14 day return period, which the T-mobile Rep confirmed.

        • NY Certified

When you pay full price the buyers remorse is 30 days.

        • Disgruntled G2 Owner

Went into a T-mobile store today, 30 days is correct if and only if the phone’s boxing is never opened. Incredibly stupid if you ask me, especially because the return policy on my receipt does not mention this condition. Also, the first sales rep I asked said yes to 30 days, It’s a good thing i double checked with another rep.

In summary, BRING ON THE NEXUS S.

        • Beanz0nToast

I think 30 days is only for California. Double check with the store or customer care and make them notate it if they do say 30 days.

    • ray

Genius’ he said he baught it at RETAIL PRICE. Which means he has 30 days to return it NOT 14.

      • bob

you can do that… most reps will say no but if your persistent many of them will do it just to avoid a huge hit on their CRT or MVOC. Most SRs will do it but say it’s a one time deal and put it in the notes :-( Loyalty will almost always do it tho :-) you guys no how it is. Play the game and you can get most things, also retail rarely leave detailed notes so you can get away with a lot thru them

      • Camille

I just purchased a phone RETAIL PRICE about 1 1/2 weeks ago in a T-Mobile retail store, and the rep specifically said I have 14 days to return it.

  • Manny

gettin this…i held off on the Hd7,unlocked iphone4, g2, and my touch. GLAD I WAITED!!!

  • http://soapboxuniverse.blogspot.com/?spref=gb Mr Cker

    When? I’m curious.

    Stay thirsty my friends!

    • threetee14

i hear december at best buy only. most likely around the same time gingerbread gets out.

  • Shades

Nexus S supposedly doesn’t have HSPA+, only HSPA. Not sure if there is a difference, but why then the “+”.

    • Serotheo

      HSPA+ is 4G speeds, HSPA is 3G

    • 2FR35H

It may with this chipset but hummingbird didn’t support it. Maybe Orion will.

  • GenesisDH

If it’s supported directly by T-Mobile (in that sold by T-Mobile corp stores and resellers, like the G2), then probably. If it’s only sold by exclusive storefronts (current rumor being BestBuy) and officially not supported by TM (like the newer Nokia smartphones out there), there probably not.

Even still, that probably won’t stop people like XDA-Devs and Modaco members from adding it on somehow.

    • GenesisDH

This was a reply to Hamster above, by the way.
Somehow Opera Mini decided to do a comment, not reply.

  • Jin

So if you bought the MT4G, you can’t get Gingerbread? you’ll have to get a new phone?

  • Landon

As soon as I decide to pull the trigger on the myTouch 4g. Oh well, I’m content. The Galaxy Tab and myTouch 4g are pretty darn good combo.

  • Landon

TmoNews and Phonedog are a winning combo, as well. TmoNews FTW!

  • Ivan

THERES STILL A FRONT FACING CAMERA ….. RIGHT?!

  • Miguel

Wow. But this phone better support HSPA+.

  • Kenobi

Too bad its a samsung product. They will find a way to make outdated and unsupported very quickly.

    • 2FR35H

      @Kenobi

Oh really you mean just like how the HTC found a way to make Nexus One outdated and unsupported very quickly? Oh wait… what was that? HTC had NO CONTROL OVER THE SOFTWARE AND PEOPLE STILL BELIEVE ITS COMPARABLE TO ANY PHONE OUT NOW? What? NO wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. Too bad Nexus One was an HTC product huh? /sarcasm. Hater!

      • Kenobi

Sorry you feel that way but I was a behold 2 owner. i’m no hater and the nexus one got froyo, what update did my behold 2 get?

        • 2FR35H

Learn2read my friend. I was a behold 2 owner as well so that is no excuse. You nor I were promised an update. Behold 2 never really sold anything. Galaxy S did. Galaxy S is getting froyo as we speak.

  • Robert

I heard Samsung is working on a GPS/Compass fix for this phone. Might as well get a jump on it since the phone hasn’t been released yet. How is that GPS/Compass fix coming for the Vibrant? Enjoying Android 2.2 on those US Galaxy S variants?

  • vinny

It is a Nexus, it must be great. How long will I suffer before getting my big hands on mine? I want so bad to upgrade, ordered the my touch 4G and called back 1/2 hour later and cancelled due to this Nexus two. I have the Nexus One with all the accessories and still can’t put the damn thing down. I want my new phone. PLEASE

  • techy2011

    Samsung Nexus S
    No 4g
    No front facing camera
    No OS updates for months

    No Sale…

    • thaghost

i was gonna write a long comment but u summed it up nicely for me. thanks. (except for the update part. i believe stock android will receive updates quicker, despite samsung)

      • Manny

huh…and im pretty sure this phone has a FFC as well

      • grazapin

And you guys have all these Nexus S specifications… how? Rumors?

    • http://google.com 5!n7 is my name upsidedown

no one knows ( in the public world) yet!!

dont go writing rumors that aint true or not sure about

    • nokiaN900user

dude, this is called nexus for a reason. software updates are from google since it will be vanilla android. This phone will get honeycomb before othr phones as long as it is called a developer’s phone by google.

  • http://google.com 5!n7 is my name upsidedown

    DAVID!!

look, ( just in case you dint know) google showed endaget the phone but they couldn’t take any pics.

    http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/15/the-nexus-s-a-closer-look

    • David, Managing Editor

You should read the article a little closer, Engadget wasn’t shown the phone, they were at the Web 2.0 Summit where the phone was shown, every site that was there has similar images of the phone on their site. He held the phone up, he didn’t “show” it to anyone.

      • http://google.com 5!n7 is my name upsidedown

i thought the “we managed to convince the man to show us the device in person”
        meant that engadget convinced him.

        who is “we”?

      • whathesaid

“Google CEO Eric Schmidt showed the world the Nexus S from a distance just a little while ago, but we knew you’d want more, and so we managed to convince the man to show us the device in person just a few minutes ago.”

      • Miguel

I read the article closely and it specifically states that after he showed the phone to everyone else he showed it briefly to Engadget “in-person”. So the way they word it is that they personally asked for a closer look.

        • http://google.com 5!n7 is my name upsidedown

DAVID!! where r u? C’ mon…………………………… plze post my replys up its been already 30 mins.

        • David, Managing Editor

          Sorry, I like sleep.

        • David, Managing Editor

I concur, hence why the pictures taken are only showing the phone on stage!

  • MIke

    *Yawns*

No 4G capability no care. I’ll stick with my G2.

    • whathesaid

How do you know this? No one here knows the specs for the hardware but a lot of people apparently know what it has and what it doesn’t.

      • MIke

Leaked specs? Perhaps..don’t be a noob.

        • whathesaid

HAHA…noob. Because someone post for the first time doesn’t make them a noob. I can guarantee you that I’ve been on this site much longer than you.

Anyway, there are multiple leaked specs. So again, I don’t think anyone here knows the specs.

I’m not saying it has 4G because I don’t know and neither do you.

  • blkscorp75

    OMG!!!
So excited. I love my N1 couldn’t think what I’d replace it with until now. NEXUS S Is on its way.

  • http://www.anon.com KUL

    Oh phuck!

  • suckerr!

    @techy2011 LOL

it does have a front facing camera. LOL

have you guys wonder why its delayed??!?!?

its because this phone will run dual-core. AND its delayed because they want to put another chip that will support 4g network!

-damn you guys need to do some research!!

  • now_onTMO

i hate to say this.. but im starting to think that android is kinda overrated.. LOL

there is so much hype about android, but all of these iterations of android all seem to be the same anyway.. i know there are added features on every android iteration, but with wp7 out and its sleek UI, it makes android looks plain and old.. LOL..

ive played with my friend’s droid on froyo, pffft , not different at all from eclair, so then i realized what is the hype all about froyo? hehe, it wasnt super too, idk..

so maybe i’ll upgrade when honeycomb becomes available (UI overhaul) or a samsung wp7 with samoled becomes available on tmobile..

    • Edward Mullens

Amen brother. Preach it. Android IS really starting to look stagnant and boring. The amount of hype they build up for each minor release (ending with a desert statue on the lawn as if it were something major) is starting to get tired and without merit. The UI and basic functionality look essentially the same to every one other than non geeks. They know this themselves, that’s why they give only incremental version numbers like 0.1 more per version. That OS needs a complete overhaul graphically (comeon plain white buttons with no shading still?) and NEW substantial functionality. Like wireless streaming, cloud services, etc. They keep trying to play the hardware superiority game by rolling out 1 million new phones with hype and with dual core processors, tegra 2, etc, but they don’t really update their software to take advantage of this. That’s because Android is so fragmented that they can’t develop software for only the highest end when there are 1000 low end $50 android handsets out there.

      • now_onTMO

but i cant deny that android is a great operating system.. it has a lot to offer, with good functionality and features that other os’ lack ..i guess im just astonished by wp7′s polished and pretty UI and with that being said, it made me get over all the hype about froyo and gingerbread since they all seemingly look the same as the previous versions.. i just hope that android enhances the UI and starts to implement a gpu acceleration for ui to prevent the lags and to give a better overall experience..

        PS.
maps on wp7 is really cool..

    • BrainlessDrone

Thats the weird subculture that Android created… you have all these people constantly waiting for the next update and constantly asking if Device X is going to have the latest update, etc. This is something unique to Android users.

Honestly, EVERYTHING is overrated. The iPhone/Pad/pod touch is overrated. blackberries are overrated. Android is overrated.

I’m not a hater, I used to have a G1 and would consider using Android again… but there is nothing about it that makes me HAVE to HAVE Android.

  • suckerr!

    @techy2011 LOL

  • Yyevo

Did anyone pay attentention to more than just that phone? Schmidtt said Android 2.3 would suppor tap to pay. The Nexus S will have the RFID chip. Any word if the G2 or MT4G does?

    • Camille

The Nexus S will be the first phone to have this. So, no, neither the G2 or Mt4G have it/or will have it.

LOL i told yall this is just another samsung let down and to the dude that said google need a cloud service i guess you had your head in the ground all summer during the android summit they had when they anounce that and other feature like google music which is suppose to be release in honeycomb(3.0)

  • Landon

Do you all honestly believe that Google would release something that was a technological step backwards? This thing is going to have brains and brawn. How long did take everyone else to catch up the original Nexus? A long, long time in cell phone terms. I’d be prepared for this thing to peel potatoes and wash your car.

    • http://google.com 5!n7 is my name upsidedown

google doesnt do phones!!! they only do software!

    • Edward Mullens

Yes, WOW! We will all be able to pay for products using our cell phones. (If and when all of these retail locations get the point of sale units to even allow this). Oh and we’ll get a mildly rehashed UI of Froyo. How awesome! *rolls his eyes* Seriously, can we work on simple things about Android like why the scrolling and UI interfaces aren’t as smooth regardless of hardware? I mean these Android phones are running Snapdragon, Cortex A9, and soon dual core ARM processors and show NOTHING for it except for useless benchmarks.

      • Mike

you are so right!! good needs to also improve their battery life. thats why android is still in beta because they have a long way to go to be like iphone or blackberry

  • JMA
  • Snoopyalien24

it does has a FFC as seen on other leaked pics on this very website
