“New And Improved” TmoNews

You might notice a new look around TmoNews this morning and, of course, you aren’t dreaming.  We did a little work on the site last night. We’ve cleaned up a little and, hopefully, you like what you see.  It is very very much a work in progress as I still hope to change, adopt and experiment with new features in the coming weeks and months.

Most important though is the addition of the Disqus comment system to the site which hopefully will help alleviate a lot of the problems we’ve been having in recent weeks with comments getting stuck in the queue and/or spam folders.  I know it’s been frustrating for some of you who want to engage in the conversation right away and we thank you all for your patience as Disqus allows us and the reader a lot more control over the comments around here.  I’ll be tweaking things quite a bit this week to hopefully ensure a better experience but if you recognize any problems, please don’t hesitate to email me: david@tmonews.com!

Thank you all so much for your patience and understanding but, most importantly, thanks for reading and loving the site!  It’s all for you, the Magenta faithful!

Rollover logo effect. That’s old skool.

I noticed a bug on the front page. The little tag that displays how many times an article has been tweeted is showing 126 for every article. When you click through the larger tag in the article shows a different number.

      That’s already been reported!

Here in the comments of this article? I must have missed it, sorry.

Is there any way you could copy and paste your old avatar into your Disqus account? Maybe from a cached version of the site.

  • The Dude

We should be able to downvote comments – Engadget’s system (and this one currently) is for pansies afraid of offending people (or something like that). Let the commenting community take care of trolls by downvoting them.

    • http://tmonews.com tmonews

Like I said, I need some time to tweak Disqus and customize it to the liking of as many people as I can please!

      • Anonymous

I used to think that we should have a up and downrank system on blogs (like how engadget used to be). But when Engadget changed over to their new disqus system, I really saw the merits of a system up vote system.

It’s a much better representation of how comments are perceived. Ranking is always shown. For example, a up/down system allows for plus and minus. That means, a person can receive several ups and downs, and would still equal to zero. I have come to realize that sucks. We are deceived easily by such as system, so we don’t know how truly liked a comment is.

In the new Engadget Disqus system, there is a simple “Like” system. It works surprisingly well. The suckier comments receive +3 average, while the good comments receive +20 or higher. Trolls would not be able to simply alter other’s responses. That is why I believe the “like” only system is better.

        Please consider this, David.

By the way, I noticed the cartoonish avatars are gone. Bring them back! I love them!

I’m sorry, I’m not sure if you guys are seeing what I am seeing but there is no voting something here, it’s like only, so its not something I really need to consider as I already did :-) should be exactly the way you want it now!

        • The Dude

So I take it you’ve never seen comments on blogs and sites which show both negative AND positive? Sheesh.

Also, there’s a lot of phonedog around here, I take it they bought you out?

        • http://tmonews.com tmonews

I don’t know if you are replying to me or the comment above, i was merely informing said person that we don’t have a vote system like Engadget does and that the “Like” system as he hoped is actually whats in pace.
