Dell Venue Pro Delayed, Will Launch With Bigger Fanfare?

Wherefore art thou Dell Venue Pro?  Well, according to the folks at Dell who released a statement around 5:30 this afternoon, they are “currently ramping up production”.  They say it’s because they want to introduce the Dell Venue Pro on a “bigger scale.”  Earlier intel had suggested a November 15th launch, a week after the phone formally launched in Microsoft stores.  We have to wonder though.   Were the recently reported Wi-Fi problems the real cause of this delay?  Dell says they want production to be healthy enough that phones will be shipping and received in a timely fashion.  There is nothing wrong with that but we have to wonder if some of the production issues aren’t the real culprit here and the actual cause of the delay.

Whatever, I just want the damned thing. Hopefully its something worth waiting for.

I have it right now. Aside from poor camera it’s an amazing device! (supposedly this re release will address camera performance).

  • J-Hop2o6

yea the delay is because of the WiFi to secure AP’s problem.. and i doubt we’ll see any promo on them other than online, and maybe in-store.. but i doubt any TV ads since they’re only being sold in retailer stores (Best Buy).

I am still waiting for the Microsoft store to call me to let me know my replacement unit is in. When I was there last week they had heard from Dell that they would be getting a shipment to take care of the initial lot. When I called yesterday they still had not gotten them in and they did not know when they would. They hoped next week but had not heard anything from Dell about it since the initial contact. They did offer to get me a different phone but for now I wait.

Since you have the phone, can you please tell how heavy the phone is? I have the touch pro 2 and it feels a little heavy. specs show the dell venue pro is heavier than the touch pro 2

      • epic

I bought the phone and it has a bit of heft to it but I wouldn’t call it heavy. The build is very high quality and feels expensive versus cheap plastic design of other phones. So in this case it’s actually a positive, unfortunately dell screwed up on other areas of the phone and I got rid of mine soon after

    • Dysphoria

Check your buyer’s remorse policy carefully, if you’re getting close to the end on it, be smart and return the phone for a while while the new one comes out. There’s nothing worse than getting a phone from a bad batch just to get a refurb as a replacement with the same issue… And Dell doesn’t have the best track record with faulty equipment, if I remember to a few years back.

Dell has many pc problems and Alienware laptop/ netbook problems, too..

    • Dysphoria

Everybody got problems, it’s about which ones are correctable and if the rest is tolerable :-)

That phone is obnoxious, looks like a futuristic brick phone. Might as well just add a phone plan to your Ipad and use that as your “un-mobile phone”… ridiculous

Dell is a joke. How do they manage to screw this up when the spy photos are close to 7 months old meaning development of the phone itself has gone on for the past year? Is there a term for vaporware that applies to hardware? The phone isn’t worth the wait anymore. I got the HD7, and I won’t look back. Maybe if they get it right for ’11 with HSPA+ we can talk, but until then forget it.

And especially if they’re still putting out two models, meaning the higher end competitor to my 16GB HD7 will most likely cost $300 subsidized.

AMOLED screen, 4.1inch screen, qwerty, with win7 OS. this is the best phone coming out SOON.what do you do with your cellphone? what sites do you have to load really fast? how big are the files you need to download? to the point where you think 3G is so slow? crying about how the phone isnt HSPA+ you’re the joke. Enjoy that shitty HD7 with a dull screen

  • somebody

i really dont see a point in buying wp7 phones untill they have hspa plus

ial wait for the nexus… gingerbread might be interesting

whats with the mobile broadband push? in 30 days run a report of how many web connects and dell minis will be returned and the number will blow you away.

I’d rather they fix it and deliver the quality product that we want.

  • Candybarhj

Wouldn’t give a dime for one of these phones.

    • Dysphoria

If you’re selling ‘em for a dime, I’ll take ‘em :-)

It would be nice if introducing the phone at a bigger scale involved adding an extra feature or two. =/ But that’s not going to happen….

  • mtnman

The phone looks pretty nice, and I like the fact that it has both a physical and vertiual keyboard. This give me options. I also like the curved glass on it as it makes the screen look bigger. As for the OS, I’m not too sure on that yet. I’ll have to go to the Tmo store and take a look at it and see for my self before making any determinations on it.

Won’t be at the tmo store ever…

I was very impressed with the physical design and windows 7 truly is amazing, the ui is gorgeous and with time and support will rival apple and android, unfortunately dell ruined this phone, I had to send it back for some of the issues listed, not including the horrible sound quality on the player, bad camera, shame really this phone had so much potential

Better late and error-free than early and error-prone. Just go ask Square Enix and their flop with FFXIV if you don’t believe me.

FF sucks. Except for FF 7.

    Interesting device sd card?

Isn’t Dell getting out of the phone business? I won’t buy a product from a company that has already said they’re done. I can imagine support will be a nightmare.

  • Hugo Stiglitz

And the moral of the story is……Leave mobile phone production up to mobile phone companies. Point Blank. This is already becoming as big a fail as the nexus one fiasco and just as google did, Dell will eventually have to kick out of the mobile phone production race.

    • Beef Twinkie

The moral of your comment is you have no idea what you’re talking about.

Hi, I go to pree-school, and Windows Phone was my idea! (LOL…hAD TOOO!)

This is the best looking new device to be put out this year IMO. As far as Win 7 is concerned the OS looks very sharp and easy to follow. It looks like there’s allot missing. Paste and Copy is not available, WHY NOT???? That is a much needed application and no exscuse not to be there. I like this device and hope they get all the little quirks together. I really like the hardware on this device, great job Dell.

  • Silorlando

When will T-Mobile have this phone?

  • Thebowski

Someone didn’t pay attention in 9th grade English class- wherefore means “why”, not “where”. As in “why are you Romeo, if you were from a different family we could be together.”

  • Rsinger61

I am sure there are major issues with the phone, who would wait til after xmas to sell there handset. I canceled my order.
