Nexus 2/S/Whatever Coming To T-Mobile? We Say Likely.

We admit there is a fair amount of skepticism regarding the fabled Nexus 2/S/Whatever, both from our readers, other members of the blogging community and even ourselves. We can’t say it really exists, and then again I can’t say a 20 million dollars exists because I’ve never seen that much money all at once. So what follows is rumor based, pure rumor and speculation though we, like Androidandme can confirm that T-Mobile (among other carriers) is a likely recipient of this device. Will it be sold in T-Mobile retail stores or another channel is anyone’s guess, as is every other aspect of this report. Taylor has managed to pull together some specs we might see on this device:

  • Stock Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)
  • 1.2 GHz processor (don’t know which model)
  • 4 inch AMOLED display (don’t know resolution)
  • 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and HD video capture (don’t know about flash), front-facing camera (don’t know resolution)
  • 512 MB RAM, 16 GB internal storage
  • Support for multiple carriers (radios are unknown)
  • All the usuals like WiFi, Bluetooth, 3.5 mm headset jack, etc.
  • Outer casing is a mix of metal and plastic materials

Keep in mind, while these specs are rumored to be finalized they are NOT confirmed. Until we see a Mr. Blurrycam pic of this device, we can only guess what it might look like. That’s the point of this whole story right now, what the phone really is is anyone’s guess.

Depending on it’s launch date, and “true” specs – if coming soon, this WILL be my next phone! If not, then I’ll grab the MT4G for now. Cannot wait! :)

    • Marco

Same here either MT4G or this beast….

      • manus

remember if this is a true google phone like the nexus this means that it will receive updates as soon as they come out unlike other phones like original mytouch who is barely getting updates. so if you want to have the best os on your device i would go with a true google experience.

  • Jay

Ugh MT4G or wait for this? Gahh!! I hate decisions!

  • Chris S

The speed at which phones keep coming out is ridiculous. The mytouch4g will be my purchase cause I’m tired of waiting I’ve had my g1 since launch, I need a new phone now.

  • I’m a noob

This is is to David and yea I kno off topic nd I’m sorry
David if I’m usin pdanet app from the android market and I reach the 5gb thing will I not be able to use tht app or would I be able to use it to give wifi jus at a slower pace?

    • Serotheo

      it’s slower.

  • Dale Murphy

what happened to the ‘pro’ version with a keyboard. Swype sux.

    • Eddie Android

      Thats the G2

      • klotz

No, the G2 keyboard is terrible. It’s missing an entire row, and there’s now way to type some of the characters. The HTC 7 Pro, for example, has 5 rows.

      • Zack

I for one love the g2 keyboard, though I never use the .com/www. button, the quick keys are genius! I am more accurate and faster than I was on my cliq and the five row g1.

      • Moose

I wouldn’t call the G2 terrible. The keyboard feels great, it just really should have that additional row. And if they’re going to futz with the OS by taking out tethering or adding bloatware, they could at least add something useful like better camera software.

  • pantlesspenguin

So, is this the same thing as the Galaxy S2 that was rumored on Android Central the other day, or will that be awhole ‘nother cookie?

    • Bimmerz

I gather this will not be the GS2, as that is not scheduled to launch until (maybe Q1, but more likely Q2 of 2011 – or so rumored). This is the Nexus 2/or S (whatever they end up calling it), not GS2.

  • phonegeek

im with Bimmerz with this one, its depending on release date and specs. If the nexus 2/s specs are better then ill gladly pick it over the mt4g. The mt4g is a superb phone too bad Duluth Ga Tmobile doesnt have the demo yet.

  • vinny

Own the Nexus One and love it. Own the G2, love it. I will be the first in line to purchase the Nexus Two and I am sure if Google is involved I will be absolutely thrilled to own this device. Thank You T-Mobile.

  • Foxeh

Heh, I hear you guys. If I wasn’t so hellbent on having a vanilla Android device with every input method possible, I’d be going crazy over all the phones rumored and otherwise like everyone else.

The nice thing about my getting a G2 (for me) is that I’m not too bothered by rumors like this as there hasn’t been anything like the G2 in quite a while and nothing similar seems to be coming in the near future. I guess my point is it helps to know what you want in a device.

I heard rumblings about Gingerbread having native support for video chat. If that’s true it would only make sense to have a new developer phone with an FFC. Hmm…

  • sim1

If this puppy has an optical trackpad, I’m all in. Was set to get the MT4g, but if this is a G experience phone, it’s too good. I had the Vibrant for a month, and I loved the camera, video, and screen, it was just missing a few things that I couldn’t live without :) If this has LED notifications, and a trackpad, I’m good. It was very awkward for me to have to hit the power button to wake up the Vibrant. Strange positioning.

  • somebody

Okay i need to turn the song “holy diver” on and listin because this is too awesome to be true

  • Antwain

As a vibrant owner I’m thrilled if this happens not because I want to pick one up but because the developers over at xda can use the code to make it a lot easier programming gingerbread for the vibrant.

    • somebody

      everyone benefits

and i wouldn’t get rid of vibrant for this vibrant is still a great phone

but i have an upgrade and im stuck with a dumphone right now so im biting my time.

  • Midori

Yeah,If this phone isnt coming out in less than two weeks(Steep time frame) Im getting an MT4G their both win-win.

    • 5!n7 is my name upsidedown

i will be good if it is shown officially or at least a real pic of it in the wild within 3 weeks………………………..or else………………………….the MT4G is aaaaaalll mine!

  • bigger mac

the Mytouch 4G has more RAM and Im pretty sure the Nexus S wont have hspa+ support as its not exclusive for tmobile. This new specs helped me made my mind my next phone will be the Mytouch 4G!!

    • Bimmerz

I am with you there, if this doesn’t have HSPA+, then I will be getting the MT4G. I guess I’ll wait and see what the final specs are, and if it will be a HSPA+ – which I gather (or hope) we’ll know the 8th or 11th?

    • Testament

The N900 has HSPA+ and its not a T-mobile exclusive.

      • somebody

        ^^^ win lol

  • Oce

Disappointed that it’s not being made by HTC. Not a fan of Samsung craftsmanship or build quality (too much plastic). All HTC phones are high build quality and have solid craftsmanship. Please be wrong this one time!

    • Anthony

Oce, consider this the first n1 by htc had touchscreen issues for mantas well as 3g issues perhaps Google didn’t want to repeat the same thing again just saying

  • Galen20K

Specs on this look alright but I’m far more impressed with the myTouch 4G. More Ram, Fantastic Build Quality, Second Generation Snapdragon, more color choices HSPA+(since its not confirmed for the Nexus S/2).

Both will be fine phones but for myself I really think the myTouch will be the best purchase until the Nexus 3. Although I really love my Nexus One, I”m not crazy about Samsung cheap feeling, flimsy Glossy plastic body’.

    • Matlock

I highly doubt google would allow Samsung to build the body of the phone, without them having their input as to what materials would be used on the phone.

  • Gooseilini

For the first time in a long time, I don’t care! I am trucken down to T-Mobile Wed morning and grabbing the MyTouch 4G. Then I am going to throw my G1 covered in pink duct tape in the trash and will be happy. I hope.

  • J

Honestly, if this goes to other carriers as well as T-mobile, it will make me not want it nearly as much.

  • James

Glad to see even just rumors about T-mobile getting more android phones.

  • Phone 4 Sale

Im selling my G2 anyone cares to buy let me know

    • Sean

      How much for the g2?

  • zazou

If true, definitely getting this and selling the G2… My N1 needs a son…

  • MJ

If this device is not sold directly through T-Mobile (zero t-mobile garbage on it) and includes AWS, I will get one. I want a 100% Google device, just like the original Nexus. Don’t want T-Mobile dictating what I can and cannot do with my phone

    • Chimphappyhour

Bingo! Amazing that it took me this long to read through comments to finally find someone else who catches that bit about this device going to the carriers. I suspect if it is sold through the carriers, this will be stock android…. ala the G2. In other words, want to use some special feature of this phone? Get ready to pay extra. Something tells me I’ll be keeping my N1 for a while longer.

  • Dma76

Still getting the mytouch, but thank God for the 14 day return policy. Depending on the 8th International might not have it for long

  • kershon

A girl on ur lap is worth five on the phone. MT4G for me.

  • swehes

I would sell my vibrant for this phone. Although I do love the XDA devs support of the vibrant. It is great. But a stock android that doesn’t have the multi touch issue, which was the only thing that kept me from getting the Nexus One. I’m looking forward to these rumors to see if they are true on the 8th of November.

  • supergear

I will not be getting this phone since it is being made by Samsung and always had issues with Samsungs phones. Also I love my G2 and don’t see me upgrading till sometime next year

  • kendrix_myrealname

This sounds promising but if its nothing more than the original Galaxy S phone….well, I already have a Vibrant lol. I loved my Nexus One until the speaker stopped working on it.

  • Danny

Hopefully the company that provides UMA software for T-Mobile will make it available as a downloadable app for T-Mobile customers soon.

I’d love to get a N2 with free Mobile HotSpot capabilities w/o the need to root my phone.

  • alex

I will be getting the mytouch in white for wifey…i will be waiting for this phone to see if it materializes…nothing beats stock android especially on a s-amoled screen…

  • =D

I don’t get it… Google can basically just choose which manufacturer to produce their Nexus lines???

    • Matlock

Yes they can, they make Android, and own the Nexus name!!

  • par

will we every see a 3.5” Android phone??????????

    • papesh

  • ian douglas

I was tempted by the MyTouch 4G but I’m going to wait to at least hear the specs on this device before I make a move to give up my Nexus One. Hopefully, as others have said, Samsung will leave plain vanilla Android on the phone, and updates will come straight from Google like the Nexus One.

    • Towle

Wait for the specs to come out, and then there will be a NEW phone rumored so you should wait for those specs, and THEN there will be an even NEWER phone rumored, so you might as well just keep on waiting!

  • Mr Cker

Let’s say specs are real. This is very tempting. I want to see what the next Android is. Honeycomb and Gingerbread. The plot thickens.

    Stay thirsty my friends!

  • redman12

This is what I’m waiting for Vibrant refresh, when I saw the vibrant in person. The screen is so amazing but the lack of HSPA+, front facing camera disappointed me!

    • 2FR35H

Then this would be perfect I imagine.

  • Wilma Flintstone

There’s defintely one thing that I can say, Tmobile has filled the gap of 3.7-4.0 inch android devices so there’s no reason to really complain about the lack of those.

Now if they could bring at least one 4.3 inch super Android with ffc…

    • Bimmerz

I agree with you Wilma, as I am also wanting a 4.3″ Android. But I figured I’d get this or the MT4G for now, and then wait to see what 2011 brings us. :)

      • David, Managing Editor

Didn’t we already talk about this! SMH!

      • Wilma Flintstone

No “WE” didn’t, “YOU” probably have David. SMH!!!

      • Bimmerz

lol Yes “we” did David, but Wilma and I have not! :-p

      • Barry

I missed that conversation also, what was it about?

  • vinny

I would rather of seen the same team of HTC and Google bring the big brother of the Nexus One to us loyal Android nuts but will accept whoever Google chooses to team with. I am positive they will put one hell of a knockout phone together. Just point me in the right direction.
    Thank You T-Mobile.

    • paul

      What is smh

  • currator

one word samsung. hey vibrant and behold 2 owners how’s those updates coming along. ohh yeah they never happened. lol. good luck. as for me I have seen and played with mt4g and all I have to say is awsome. I know my next phone

    • somebody

oh shut up man how are the mytouch updates going ??

pleas point me to the phone that tmobil has from htc that has gotten a timely update..

not a google phone something that htc had to update

  • dma76

yeah, I got to play with a MT4g today for a little while and it feels great, looks great and well I really don’t have 1 bad thing to say about it. The only thing that is temtping about holding out for the new Nexus, if there is going to be one, is that having the Nexus right now you get spoiled with being the first to get the updated OS iterations straight from google, and the bragging rights that come with that, while all my friends were/are waiting…and waiting…even with moto being pretty good with the droids (they sucked with the cliq) I still was on froyo a good month+ before them!

  • LBthaGreat

I hope this phone will be exclusive to tmobile, do i hear other phone carriers trembling in there boots!!!!!!!

    • somebody

      unlikely but we can hope

  • jonathan from los angeles

I couldn’t wait for the MT4G to come out but once i saw this, it makes me want to wait to see if the Nexus 2 is legit.

i would choose a google experience phone over any other phone any day, just as long as it has the specs that are rumored for this device.

and if its hspa+, has front-facing camera, and is full touch screen phone with no keybaord then im getting this phone.

i just hope that this phone comes out in 2 weeks

  • zapata714

this sounds like it could be a beast of a phone if everything is handled properly with samsung since theyre not really known for their hardware, and hopefully it doesnt have any of that touchwiz on it

  • going_home

It will be sold unlocked at Best Buy is my gut feeling, not thru service providers.
I’ll get one anyways but I’ll hang on to the N1 till I’m sure its not a pile of Samsung crap.

  • alex

This phone is a google phone, no touchwiz will be on is calling all the shots…this will be the android os at its finest..although, i do like the htc clock/weather widget….

    • zapata714

Yeah i hope its good ol stock android

    • zapata714

Yeah i hope its good ol stock android

    • Chimphappyhour

Not if the carriers are selling it won’t be.

      • 2FR35H

T-Mobile has a few devices that are stock android that are coming out so what do you mean if carriers are selling it? G2 is stock android and is sold by t-moble. Optimus T is going to be stock android. One of the ones made by huawei I do believe. Nexus S/2.

    • sim1

Just get Beautiful Widgets or Weather Widget (paid), they are around $2 and give you almost the exact same widget only with more customization. :)

  • Nain77

there will never be a perfect phone… 4.3inch android 2.3 1.2ghz, FFC, 8mp camera, 6 months later something WILL be better than it, just make up your minds guys seriously, playing the waiting game will get u no where

    • 5!n7 is my name upsidedown

      in time it will!

common tmobile! bring us the perfect phone, i dont care if you raise the price to 300 i would evem pay 400 on a 2 year contract!

    • mikeyo

4.3″ is not the perfect phone its a big fat pop tart.

  • Rilesman

If it has HSPA+, I am sold.

  • shhhh

Another one to add to my collection of epic tmobile devices I’ve already collected

  • Speaker of the truth

I’m just going to wait and see because just like the vibrant and g2 people got less than what they expected from the rumors. If tmobile sells it that worries me as to what they might add or delete.

  • cellswag5

Sorry off topic. @ david. PLEASEEEEEE can you dig deep into your sources and find some info about tmo gettting the black berry torch.

  • currator

ok somebody. catch a clue first off this phone may not even come to the u.s. if I am not mistaken they have not said were the phone would be released to. second the n1 is being sold in other places in the world still I believe but I could be wrong.

    • 2FR35H

Why would it not come to the US? its the Nexus S/2 of course first its going to be launched in europe they always get em first but then we(America) follow suit. HTC desire HD is the MyTouch4G just with a bit of lesser specs on the 4G, HTC Desire Z – Tmobile G2, Samsung Galaxy S – Samsung Vibrant, see the pattern there? HTC Desire – Google Nexus one refinished.

  • mingkee

I don’t want to see it’s sold by T-Mobile because I hate branding.
    The NII should be i9020.

    • mikeyo

unbranded just like the original nexus. just will be subsidized ala the original nexus.
