[Updated] T-Mobile Ending Sidekick Sales July 2nd, Says To Expect Something Better Soon

Update: While we’ve been guessing this for a while now, mocoNews is also reporting a rumor that T-Mobile will resurrect the Sidekick as an Android device. As the Sidekick line remains an iconic part of the T-Mobile brand it seems fitting to introduce an Android based Sidekick incorporating the best of both worlds, mainly the Android OS and the Sidekick form factor. Stay tuned!

Today, T-Mobile announced that it will be discontinuing its Sidekick handset line. Magenta states that as it looks to “further innovate and raise the bar for the next iteration of the T-Mobile Sidekick”, beginning tomorrow July 2nd, the Sidekick LX and Sidekick 2008 will no longer be available through T-Mobile retail stores, Customer Care, telesales, or online. Additionally, Magenta promises that it will be putting a twist on things by replacing the lineup with a “new and fresh experience” sometime in the coming months. This should come as no surprise, as we’ve been expecting a replacement for awhile now.

Lets get it baby I went from *patiently waiting* to *salivating* lol

    • Manny

Same here…well the patiently waiting part anyways.
I just gotta see the design and the OS first before I start doing all of that lol. If this device is going to have a 4+inch screen it’ll be interesting to see how that would look with a key board on it.

      • 2FR35H

OS is gonna be Android 3.0 with a user customizable interface

Dual core and 1ghz standard here we come! hopefully at least this is what the line up is talking about or it might be Windows Mobile 7!

But… I am pretty sure it will be Dual Core Android 3.0 goodness.

Honestly I will be content with either OS but I will be extremely happy with android 3.0

I’m thinking HTC vision is going to be the start of the lineup.

      • HowdyDoody

T Mob, gives a the HTC Sabor.. The Samsung Vibrant has 5 major issues:

        a) Its a Samsung.. upgrades are poor of half baked…. HUGE RED FLAG, remember the Behold you sell?
        b) NO FLASH!!!! Thats’ T Mobs Fault
        c) NO HDMI physical output HLNA not the same but willing to look into it
        d) NO Navigation KEY, what was TMOB thinking about
        e) Touch Wiz YUCK, if I want an iPhone I’ll buy and iPhone.. fat chance.

The lack of front facing camera is FOOLISH, but we all know that whom ever is in charge of phone selection at TMOB is doing a outstanding HORRIBLE job.

      • 2FR35H

        @HowdyDoody

B,c, and e are your personal problems and I HIGHLY doubt Samsung is going to drop support for this seeing as its a USA, European, and Asian phone

This phone is everywhere you can’t just drop support like that. Android 2.2 will definitely happen and so will 3.0 android and who cares what else after that? because android updates will become yearly after 3.0 Android.

However on point D I agree with you how the hell can anyone play SNES Roms now? I mean come on that should most definitely been a standard. I wanted the Original Galaxy S which had the Navigation button and FFC but that didn’t happen.

With the death of one sidekick, thought everyone would get a kick out of this too.

      http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/02/life-and-death-of-microsoft-kin-the-inside-story/

    • badbob001

We’re talking about a replacement of the sidekick and not a flagship phone to rival the iphone, unless of course tmo is losing tons of sidekick teen users to at&t. I’m pretty surprised that tmo didn’t use the slide to replace the sidekick; it just needs a more social-oriented interface ala kin.

  • Johny

Every site has had this for a while today even the worst site hiptop3.com -_-

    • David

Well I’m terribly sorry Johny, I’m traveling and my guys are doing their best to keep up with the news. Stuff happens…get over it.

      • Overy

Well for you to be traveling you sure replied to his comment pretty quickly..

      • phonegeek

ooooo david feels a bit pissy about that .. and honestly i dont blame him david man dont worry about that you and your team are doing great man seriously

    • 30014

Chill out Johny, kickstar13 has been on a roll getting stories up the past few days. So what if he was a little late with this one. If you already read it on another site what’s the big deal about you reading it on this site?

      • Dale Murphy

chill out 30014, David already handled it. he doesn’t need you to co-sign.

      • 30014

Dude you can literally kiss the inside of my asshole. You’re probably Johny just using a different screen name. Whatever the case, piss off.

      • mad dog

        Dale it’s ironic that u say David doesn’t need a co-sign, but by saying that u r co-signing him.

      • HandyManny

        @30014:

Really? You want some dude to “literally” kiss the inside of your asshole?

      • Davidohio

He just felt the need to point that out to try and make David feel stupid and himself feel better. He obviously has nothing to do with his time.

      • MikeyLikey

        @HandyManny LOL!

      • Bruce Banner

What’s up with all the dumb teenagers on this site? I’m talking about you HandyManny.

    • Johnysux

Geez Johny, then why didn’t you share with the rest of us then, instead of bashing the site? …. or doesn’t Johny play well with others, just with himself?

  • menchi

hopefully it runs android and is still open sourced and not plagued with bloatware

  • NiiDiddy

Hope it’s a good one for the sake of “sidekick” enthusiasts. Hopefully Magenta will not disappoint. **keeping fingers crossed for all of you who may be interested in the sidekick replacement**

  • Johny

Sorry David you updated quick :)

  • Elias

I’m thinking the new Sidekick IS the Motorola Basil.

    • Sapphire

No, it definitely is NOT the basil.

  • Johny

@ Elias noo I don’t want that to b it I hope there is a project emerald and htc vision for tmobile :)

  • Blahh

I agree wit 30014 some people are dumb lolz

  • Sasha

Ok so I have been waiting for t-mobile to release something and I REALLY hope this is something worthwhile. I went to the Sprint store and they said they would pay my early fee, give everyone in my family an evo and the rates for the plan would stay the same. Tempting. If this is like a mytouch slide twist edition I think i’ll just switch. Have been a loyal customer for seven years but after the Wing and Touch Pro II, I think I deserve to buy something usefull with my heard earned money.

    • Sasha

      * I know this sounds too good from Sprint, but it’s because of some Microsoft benefit thing.

      • TMOprophet

Holy crap! Seriously..thats a really good deal. Im going to go talk to a Sprint Store tomarrow! See whats going on? So if understand correctly then Sprint offered to do the following:
Pay your Early Termination fee for TMO
Give Evo’s for all the lines in your plan
And price match your current plan with TMO

That does sound to good to be true…I’m checking tomarrow

      • Sasha

It’s actually far more complicated than your list, but essentially that’s what I took away. But I wouldn’t completely trust this because he kept leaving and coming back. Also the pricing is because of promotions mixed with Microsoft benefits. They’ll take 23% off your bill which conincides with the internet and text plan which evens the bill to be similar to Sprint. As for the termination fee, I told them the cost and they replied “we buy back customers” so I don’t know. I am definitely going to go check out what they were talking about because I was one of three who this man was talking to.

      • john

Search the whole industry, nobody beats tmo’s prices, they offer discounts with high numbers as far as the %age goes, but their entry point is higher on cost, if they have a corp discount @ sprint chances are they will have one with tmo too.

    • Jay

      @ Sasha

Holy moly that is a sweet deal, but just a few questions:

      1. Did you go to a Sprint Store or some kind of vendor or kiosk?

      2. Do you have to be a pre-existing Sprint customer?

      3. Can they match the price of my T-Mobile 2 line 750 minute family plan? One of my phones has nothing, the other is a MyTouch with unlimited web and text messages for $35 per month in addition to the $49.99 minute plan.

      • Sasha

        1. I went to a store

        2. No I am a current T-Mobile Customer

        3. They are the most disorganized people ever. I gave them my phone model and they found some ATT phone.

In regards to your plan, the offer this plan as campared to yours:
129.99 for two lines Unlimited Text, Data, Sprint T.V. on both lines (SPRINT)
119.99 for two lines Unlimited Test, Data ($70 (two unlimited plans) and $49.99 for you base plan)

I would stay with TMO, ther person helped me at Sprint told me that no Evos would cost $152 monthly and $208 with 2 evos. even though it’s a $20 difference. Personally I’m going to get the Vibrant and avoid a headache of switching. Sorry if I confused or raised your hopes up, but after spending two hours at Sprint I still don’t know what the verdict is.

    • TMOprophet

Ok I just got back from the Sprint Store. It was an actual corporate store. And they told me that I would be paying the same as anyone else, with some discounts depending on my employer and any credit unions I was with, but no for the ETF, no special price match, they that their plan was similar in cost and that they cant change the plan rate. So to go to Sprint I was looking at the following:

2 lines..unlimited mobile to mobile, unlimited texts and data for 129.00
Then assuming I get an Evo or 2, it would add $10 per Evo onto the monthly bill
Evo’s were in stock, so $300 per Evo in store cost with $100 mail in rebate for each Evo.

Its tempting, however I dont like CDMA, I prefer the convenience of GSM and being able to swap sim cards around. I also think that when you upgrade..your required to renew your contract…although isnt that the same for TMO. I guess I would rather stay with TMO and just hope TMO gets an Evo like device soon. Although on the flip side, I have Edge with TMO and with SPrint I would have 3G in my area. Such a hard decision….

      • Sasha

Yeah I got that info but I have the touch pro II which they found as the Diamond and Tilt II. It’s the tilt II technically but it’s actually not so they didn’t find my phone. I’m sticking with TMO and getting the Vibrant. At least with T-Mobile I know that the cards are all laid out and there are no hidden surprises such as the added $10 for 4G. CDMA is the best in the USA but not in the world.

As a pessimist I would say the worst is a new phone is going to be a G1 like device that will still remain behind the competition. Windows Mobile is out of the question since I heard it was going to be pushed back to possibly next year. A rep I talked to today said the Vibrant might be pushed back to the 27th although it is confirmed on the 21st. And I think the device really will be better than the Evo but worse than the competition.

On the other hand it could be the great phone promised but I really don’t trust T-Mobile with phones. After the Dash-Wing-Touch Pro II, I really cannot begin to describe the frustration.

In the end I think that I will get the Vibrant and once and for all end the difficulties I have been having with phones. Phones live for 6 months and then they die just be happy with what you have.

      • TMOprophet

I played around with the EVO, its badass, I dont think the Vibrant is gonna touch it….no offense to anyone, but the EVO is just flat out IMO a better device. you may argue little things, but talking overall…The EVO wins

      • Sasha

Oh yeah, the Evo is undeniably a great phone. I played with it and it is a fantastic phone. The Vibrant will definitely not be better, however it will be the best on TMO. Also you have to remember that phones live for 6 months. The EVO will die in January 2011 and the Vibrant in February-March despite quality differences. If you already have a great phone then you don’t need a new one. My TP2 freezes ever day and the screen goes black and I WON’T be getting a WM 7 upgrade.

      • TMOprophet

Im not so sure about 6 month phone life..Iv had my phone longer, and I still have my old phones from ages ago and they still work…My old shadow still works fine, other than being glitchy..but it was always like that. I dont think the EVO will die in 6 months, considering in most cases the phone needs to operate for the duration of a 2 year contract. Maybe some people’s phones die out, but I dont think its really something to worry about. The only downside to getting an EVO or similar device is that 6 months down the road theres a better one coming out…..

      • TMOprophet

as a former WInmo phone owner, I would say to shy away from them, if your touch pro is glitching out, its not uncommon on WinMo phones as my shadow did all the time, I never had any issues with my Android

      • Sasha

Lol sorry I didn’t mean to say “die”, what I meant was that after 6 months the phones hype dies, in other words it’s old news. Yeah I had a WM device before too and should have learned my lesson but when given the choice between the MyTouch and Touch Pro 2 it’s kind of hard not to go bad either way. It’s also frustrating that I paid so much for the phone and still pay for the internet for it to act crappy. Playing with the EVO I still see slugishness. When scrolling in the app menu it can stall sometimes and the lack of a physical keyboard means that each notification disrupts typing anything. I guess it’s impossible to find the perfect phone.

      • TMOprophet

Hmm I have heard about some minor lag issues with the Evo, however I personally didnt notice any when I was playing with one, I still wouldnt be deterred from getting one or something equivalent for TMO. But then again maybe we should just wait for the next gen Super Evo’s for the end of the year or early 2011. Thats what I hate the most is that theres always something cooler coming…but its what I love as well……

      • Sasha

Oh I would absolutely take an EVO like device but of course it will be old in a few months. Personally I just need a device that can properly function without multiplying contacts, freezing when opening applications, and forcing me to restart. I really don’t care if it’s Samsung or HTC, FFC or no. My 3 year old iTouch is better than my phone.
As for the Vision, I can only imagine a brick. A 4.3 inch screen plus added keyboard with the specs listed can only make it big and fat. Looking at the original sidekick it was brick-like.

      • TMOprophet

Yeah Im not excited about a slide out keyboard either..especially on a 4.3 in screened phone, I think they should just leave out the keyboard

  • http://pryvateid.tumblr.com Dave

It’s be nice if they released it late July, early August :)

  • Jonathan

So is project emerald the HTC sidekick twist that was rumored back a few months ago for a summer release? or is the HTC Vision categorized as the sidekick and gonna be released before the holiday? Or is tmobile gonna release both phones this yr?

    • phonegeek

i hope both ( and tmo gives us more variety )

      • TMOprophet

Yeah I want both as well, variety is much better, more the merrier, besides if they make one that actually has a goofy twisting open mechanism, I would be thankful for a different option.

  • Eman13

I hope its touchscreen w/ keyboard and swivel screen like the older versions

    • TMOprophet

      swiveling screen=FacePalm

  • Galen20K

I love how Microsoft took over danger and basically KILLED everything they took on and failed without the Sidekick Moniker lol.

Make room down that Emerald road for the HTC Vision and Sidekick twist for fall, two super charged phones heading to T-Mobile this year. Sounds fine to me. = )

    • 2FR35H

They may be the same phone

  • HEMI 922

I am ex sk user for 5 years.. Sidekick series is very amazing and very popular! I miss and farewell Sidekick..

    • Jay

One thing I like way more on Sidekicks than any other Android, iPhone, or WinMo phones were the sounds it made everytime you pressed a button.

Overall I like my MyTouch better but I’ll always remember my Sidekick. I hope T-Mobile doesn’t kill it altigether. Sidekicks still have tons of fans they just need to update it with a Danger themed Android OS. That would be one sweet phone!

  • TMOprophet

And in other news, Sprint is rumored to get a “super” evo, aka HTC Saber. 4.3in, 1080 video, super high res screen, gingerbread, 2Ghz processor, man will the maddnes never end..COme on TMO time to step up your game..

    • 2FR35H

And what crack have you been smoking TMOprophet?

  • solidus433

My first tmo phone was the sk id, then I had the sk 08. Sad to see them go, and very excited to see what the so twist is going to look like.

  • smackiesfunkies

    helllllooooo project emerald :D
I missed u and please really be worth while

  • En2Mente

Maybe it’ll have some kind of sidekick themed UI

    • TMOprophet

if its running gingerbread, it shouldnt have any custom UI on it…but who knows for sure

      • 2FR35H

Yup because 3.0 Android will have a User Customizable Interface.

      • TMOprophet

Actually some high up dude with google just recently said on his twitter that the rumors about gingerbread are indeed only made up rumors, so now who knows???????????

  • tmobluv

hold on guys from what i understand tmobile will be launching a lot of phones in i believe q4 something like 16 phones somebody i know that works for tmobile told about some meeting and mild trianing they had but thats all they can say spmething about full launch of hspa+ but we might see i think 1 or 2 hspa+ phones in q3 so will shall see if what i was told was bs or not and also tmobile is supposed to be getting some flagship phones only for tmobile but i will believe it when i see it so lets hope and pray they were right

  • phonegeek

i am quite content with my tmobile dash 1st gen…………….(snickers) HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAH whew i was just kidding lol cmon wit that twist tmo

    • Patrick

LOL! Seriously though….I used a Dash until the G1 came out….and I LOVED IT. I still love the original Dash lol. I wish they’d make the EXACT same phone…just with 3G(I didn’t like how long the Dash 3G was, and I liked the Dash keys better). I should buy a dash just for laughs lol

      • phonegeek

yea the dash was a good phone for a while i had to buy one when my unlocked at&t tilt had some how messed up ( dropped it too many times) it was after i had a blackberry but wanted something different an thats when android swept me off my feet a beautiful green lady with heels on lol

  • Jay

Woot! I’m going to be buying the Vibrant and when these new phones come out I’m selling it and buying one of these! =D

    • TMOprophet

I will give props to the Vibrant in one area..Internal storage 16Gb…thats so awesome, and I hate samsung, but damn you could download all the apps you want and never worry about running out of room. I hope these HTC’s will have some serious internal storage capacities.

      • J-Hop2o6

apps are limited to 2GB (still good enough), and the rest is for stoage (eg. photos, videos, etc.)

      • TMOprophet

Yes I just realized my mistake, apps only go to the RAM, not the internal storage….sorry, I wonder how much ram is filled with bloatware.

      • TMOprophet

Actually Im wrong again, apps do go to the ROM, internal storage, so why are they limited to 2Gb? when it should include much of the 16Gb

  • Johny

@ johnysux your retarded check the previous post I commented on it nd next time make sure before you start talkin okkkkkkk
And the other dumbass who said I changed my name why the fuk would I doo tht thts dumb nd thanks to everybody who was on my side lolz

  • TMOprophet

I know that there are many Side Kick loyalists out here…but IMO I really hope TMO doesnt make this thing a giant, plastic’y, twisting , gimmicky, teenage targeted phone. If they do then I really hope the HTC Vision is a seperate and different device that is targeted for the adult power users……Now let the angry comment begin……..

    • Tony

Tmoprophet, you echo my thoughts exactly. I cringe at the thought of T-Mobile’s flagship Android device being anything like the Sidekick. They should be two products for two very different demographics.

      • TMOprophet

Yep I dont care if they call it a sidekick, I just dont want it to look like any of the precious incarnations of it. I want a serious, sharp and clean looking phone, somewhere along the lines of a HD2 or HTC Legend, And I suppose if they do make the sidekick like the other ones, just gives us another choice

  • http://www.musicibe.com KB

As one of the users that bought the LX when it dropped at the early upgrade price, I am definitely glad to be hearing this. With my next upgrade coming up I been waiting on an Android phone with a Keyboard to drop money on and this could very well be it

  • Macknifetx

Whatever their replacement device is, I do hope it is a phone that will compete and be solely on TMo. The question though is when? Soon is a relative term. Look how long it took for Tmo to officially announce the Android 2.1 update for the original MT3G, and we still do not have it.

I do applaud then for what they are trying to do, but they need to do a little better in the marketing department. Taking the Vibrant as an example: Since it is supposed to officially launch on the 21st, take a page from Verizon with the Droid X: Maybe a few commercials hyping it up. Even letting people know what the actual non-contract price will be as there are not as many people with money just sitting around waiting to buy a phone these days.

Like I have said before: I like Tmo and plan to stay with them, but they do need to step up the marketing and PR.

    Again: just my two cents.

  • Patrick

I really dont see why ppl are bashing the Vibrant so much. No flash….whoop-di-doo. The only reason I use the flash on my HD2 is for a flashlight because it doesnt really take that great of pictures with the flash in all honesty. They’re OK pictures….but not great. I would LIKE a flash to have as a flashlight but really…no flash is NOT a make or break for a phone. Who cares about no HDMI?! It DOES have DLNA….and No FFC…..seriously?! What exactly do you plan on using a VGA FFC for? lol. Video Calls that DESTROY your battery life? I’ll pass.

    • Macknifetx

Well said Patrick. I was on a conference call the other day with someone who was using a FFC and the quality was terrible. With a standard VGA FFC the picture lags if the network is not in place and the quality is sub par compared to what we are used to on a standard Webcam.

With the installed base that Samsung will have on the Galaxy S (and all of the individual variants from the carriers) I do not see them abandoning the users on the updates. Not too big of a fan on some parts of the UI, but would not use those features anyway, so it’s a wash.

I will wait until they officially announce the non contract or partial upgrade price and then decide to purchase or wait for the next great thing. Hopefully the rumors of a new device are true, but put no stock in those until I see it available for purchase.

    • TMOprophet

HDMI is a deal breaker for me, I have a big high def TV, so being able to HDMI out video is a must for me, maybe some people dont care, but I really want HDMI out. As for the FFC..I could care less..yeah its cool, but I dont really need it. And flash I think is a big enough feature that people want, so it should have been included. Thats probably the number one complaint is the lack of flash. So to each his own desires and tastes I guess.

      • J-Hop2o6

it would be nice to have a HDMI slot.. but there are ways:

DLNA via DLNA TV = HD
        DLNA via PS3 = HD
3.5mm via TV out A/V cord = SD

  • Patrick

sidenote……AT&T’s Galaxy S doesn’t have an FFC or Flash…….Verizon’s doesn’t have an FFC(though it does have flash) and yes….sprint’s has both FFC AND flash….but it’s SPRINT.

Plus, T-Mobile is the ONLY one that’s getting the 16gb model. Everybody else’s is like a 2gb model. T-Mobile’s is the only one that won’t charge you a surcharge for tethering…..Sprint, AT&T, AND Verizon DEFINITELY do lol. $30/month for each company. AT&T will probably lock theirs down to Market App Only installs(like they’ve done with their other 2 android phones). Someone remind me where T-Mobile is REALLY losing again with this phone?

    • J-Hop2o6

THANK YOU! but AT&T has 16GB also, but they lock down the Captivate some tho.. smh.. but yea, all around, T-Mobile is the Best Choice.. Sprint gets knocked down some points because their 3G (same for Verizon) is CDMA, so it doesn’t support simultaneous Talk-n-Surf (like T-Mobile & AT&T 3G).

  • Wilma Flintstone

Come on Tmo, Bring on a phone that’s good enough for me to replace this HD2 with. I want to get rid of this HD2 but I’m not replacing this for the vibrant. Twist and Vision sound replacement phone worthy.

    • TMOprophet

Keep your HD2, they almost have Android running properly on it. They already have the download available, however its not a final version so dont expect everything to work yet..a lil more time and you could have Android running on it.

  • dee-xt

OK I HAVE A COMMENT BUT BEFORE I DO, I WANT TO SAY I MIGHT NOT BE AS SAVVY AS SOME OF YOU ARE, THIS IS JUST A THOUGHT AND IF U DNT AGREE DNT START NAME CALLING AND ATTEMPT TO RIP MY HEAD OFF THROUGH THE COMP. CUZ SOME OF U CAN B PRETTY VICIOUS! LOL…. ANYWAY HERE IT IS… AFTER LOOKING AT THE MOTO “FLIPOUT” I CANT HELP BUT THINK THAT THIS SEEMS LIKE A PHONE THAT THEY COULD TRY TO REPLACE THE SK WITH. IT “TWIST” OR “FLIPSOUT”, “The Android 2.1 phone will be available in seven colors, and is aimed at the young, social networking crowd with a small form factor and a tweaked MotoBlur interface” WHICH THE SK WAS ALSO AIMED FOR THE YOUNG CROWD. I KNOW IT WAS/WILL B RELEASED IN BRASIL N DNT KNOW HOW THAT WOULD WORK IF ITS EVEN A POSSABILITY THEY CAN RELEASE IT THERE N HERE (WHICH I THINK CAN HAPPEN) … JUST MY THOUGHT….. EITHER WAY NOT FOR ME I JUST WANTED THROW THAT OUT THERE.

    • cirrob

What the hell is wrong with your keyboard? Turn off your damn caps lock! No one; not your parents, grandma, girl in your 6th grade class, puppy…. NO ONE will ever love you if you continue to write the way you do (“U” is a letter, not a word) and continue to use all caps. I have seen 3 of your post and they are all the same way. Stop it! Seriously, Stop-it! It is never acceptable to do that. It is never acceptable to misspell on purpose. Ever. Your friends and family should demand more of you. You should demand more of yourself.

This world is screwed if this guy ever gets a vote.

      • Wilma Flintstone

Dee-xt gets my vote. XD HaHaHa!!! I had to do it cirrob. Ha!!!

      • dee-xt

So what OS would this run since I read up top Microsoft took danger over? Windows 7 that would be cool hopefully they made stuff a little more finger friendly and more fun but still good for the cooperate user. and I really hope these are two different devices and that the vision is exclusive to Tmo

Sidekick is T-Mobile’s BRAND like the MyTouch BRAND.. so the new Sidekick LINE will be the Android OS.. custom skin? if its made by HTC, it will highly look similar to the mT-Slide’s HTC Sense (Espresso Edition) UI.

Danger & Microsoft made the new Kin phones.. but MS is killing the Kin line and joining the Kin team with the Windows Phone 7 team.

And yea, i hope those two high spec’d phones (HTC Vision & HTC “SK Twist”) are two separate phones also.. the more the merrier.

  • Barry

Naw the flipout would be taking steps backwards besides the sk has always been exclusive to Tmo and like they said it needs to be new and fresh. So maybe their not targeting the tweeners with this cause we all know they have plenty of other devices to choose from lol give the grownups and high end fiends something to cheer about.

  • swehes

so the question is. WHen will we find out when the new sidekick is coming to town? Before I decide I want to get the Samsung Vibrate? It is after all only going to be my in betweener phone until this new phone comes or N2 comes out.

    • TMOprophet

I would guess late 3rd quarter or early 4th quarter they will probably drop the ball on it

Death to the sidekick. Hail to Gingerbread. I want a phone that grownups can use. This may be the one worthy of my precious upgrade.

  • mingkee

Android is getting mature, so it can take SK place in no time.
    It’s a good sign.

Thats nice I just got bought the new sidekick 2 weeks ago, I wanted one of the android phone but I couldn’t afford it. I had to pay full price on the phone, because I won’t do contracts with any company. So I hope there is something worth whie coming out, I’m not a big fan of touch screen phones. I do however like the ones with a slide out keyboard.

    • TMOprophet

Touch screens have come a long way since the sidekick days. Current technology makes most touch screens very user friendly.

Google is claiming bs on the android 3.0 Gingerbread rumors, but there’s still more surfacing.
    The lastest android 3.0 info:

    I choose to believe them.

In somewhat unrelated news..I got to mess with an EVO today, and its a pretty damn cool device. Really want TMO to get something like it soon. I will say however that the HD2 feels a bit more solid and built of higher quality..The HD2 has a heavy, solid metal like feel to it and the EVO while still very nice, seems a little thicker and more plastic like….minor complaints, still a tempting phone and to the naysayers the Evo operated flawlessly and silky mooth, but we will see what TMO has up its sleeve first.

  • Barry

Also Google CEO (I believe that’s what he is) said that there will be no nexus two

    • TMOprophet

Thats a dirty shame..I was looking forward to seeing what the next Nexus would be…oh well

  • Barry

yea it really is and of course I was hoping it’d be exclusive to Tmo since they were the only carrier that really pushed it : -\

NOOOOOOO!!!! I was and hoping the would do another, more updated/better/improved, Sidekick Slide. That is the only Sidekick that REALLY REALLY LOVED, I actually want another one. I think the Slide was a step in the right direction and when they came out with the LX and the other one I was like “What?!? It’s the old model with a tad upgrade.”

I was also hoping Danger would work other companies to put their idea/spin on the Sidekick just like Danger did with Motorola to come up with the Sidekick Slide. Image what HTC could do if the put their touch on the Sidekick line?

    (I just got a tech woody) =0P

I just wanted to share some thoughts on Samsung vs HTC.
I have noticed that Samsung puts out a ton of phones, if you check up on the FCC filings every week you will notice that they put out like half a dozen new pieces of crap every week. So I think that they are only interested in over crowding the phone market with so much of their crap that people will have to buy their phones for lack of other options, I don’t like this business model, and I also think they tend to mirror some of Apple’s business practices, which is a turn off for me.
As for HTC, every week when I check the FCC filings, I hardly ever see any thing submitted by them. So my opinion is that they put out far less devices, but for a good reason…when they do make a phone its usually a quality piece of equipment. I think that for the most part, the majority of HTC’s Android phones have gotten great reviews. Meanwhile Samsung has a questionable reputation with their phone quality. I believe that HTC is the best of the smartphone manufactures and will continue to prove this with new and innovative technology along with unsurpassed quality and design.

And while the Samsung Vibrant/Galaxy S phones may be the best Samsung has put out, I still believe one can find higher quality and device satisfaction with a HTC made phone. I am not trying to come across as being a hater..just pointing out some logical and very clear points.

Say what you will, but facts and logic are sensible. So before anyone commits to buying the Vibrant, remember to consider that there could be a quality device from HTC just around the corner….the saying “good things come to those who wait” comes to mind. For those who do chose the Vibrant, I honestly hope you enjoy your phone and that Samsung delivers a higher quality device than they have in past.
