T-Mobile Father’s Day Television Ad Drops In

By now, T-Mobile customers and TmoNews readers are well aware that this Saturday T-Mobile is giving away every phone free.  T-Mobile is most definitely getting more aggressive with this one-day-only offer as it looks to grab as many new customers as it can.  With early store hours and heavy sales expectations, T-Mobile has begun marketing this event and I expect to see this ad quite often in the next 48 hours.  So check out the ad and get ready to pick up a new line this weekend for Dad, for Mom or maybe for yourself.

Anyone planning on going early?

I was just wondering, since you cannot get this deal with an upgrade (i have 3 lines in family plan right now), so can i go to a tmobile store, cancel all 3 lines, and get 3 new lines under say my mom’s name and be able to get a discount?

Option # 2: I also need to add a new line, so keeping all 3 lines as they are, under my name, and add a 4th line, would that qualify for free phones for all 4 phones?

Option # 3: if the option # 2 works, and I don’t need to add an extra line, can i simply cancel one of the lines (out of 3) today, and get a new 3rd line again this saturday and qualify for ALL 3 phones for free?

(I’ve been off contract since Jan, and i’m waiting for samsung galaxy to come in july, but if im getting 3 phones for free, then this deal is worth it for me)

Thank for the input before hand,

    Dr. P!

    • mikeeeee

just add 2 lines, then call up customer service, port your current numbers to the 2 new lines and cancel the other 2 then, go back in the store and do it again with the 3rd line.

      3 new phones.

just make damn well sure your 3 existing lines are ‘mature’, off contract, 2 years old or older.

if they had an android/UMA device, i’d be doing it on my 2 wireless lines but, they aint got one yet.

      • Dr. P

yea both of them are off contract since JAN of this year, but my question is, simply adding a 3rd line and gettin on a 2 year contract for all 3, will not allow me to get all 3 phones for free?

ALL 3 OF THEM HAVE TO BE NEW LINES?

      • Bigs12

cant port a number from tmobile to tmobile, ppl like you make customer service difficult, take what you get from being a customer i now i do….ppl always trying to get something for nothing…

    • MB

Yes all will be new lines….no upgrades available for

    • mike

no man you cant do that….well you can but you wont be able to keep your number. you cannot number port from one tmobile account to another. and no it is only on new lines no upgrades.

      • Ian

You CAN port from one tmobile account to another, but you can’t port numbers within the same account.

      • David

Wrong again Lan. You can port to the same account, i did it to my account. First you need to make sure you are out of contract so that you do not have to pay a cancellation fee. Then you tell T-mobile that the you was to port over the existing line to the the newly opened line. Tmobile will then disconnect your old number as if it never existed on your account and then re-enable it and replace the number with the new line. It’s as if you’re requesting for tmobile to change your phone number without a $25 fee and you get to keep your existing phone number.

      • RockTripod

So… you’re trying to get over. Got it.

    • Zak

Here let me answer Some of you questions for you :)

First. if you plan on canceling your lines with Tmobile PLEASE make sure this would be the best option. 1 if theres any cancelation fee’s it might not be the best Finaceal way to go..but if there is non..GO FOR IT.
with the discount it waives activation fee’s and waives partial of your bill

      now for for Option #2
yes if you do add a line you will get the promo..BUT only for that line not all 4 :)

      Option #3
refer to first explanation..you dont want nasty 200 buck cancel fee’s
      but if not sure!!

Also Deals on this day will final returning the phone ether for Customer Remorse or Faulty Equip. you have to wait after the 14 days to use your warrenty exchange..

So 1 good tip on that note..BE SURE you pick the right phone for you..do some research

      I hope i helped

      ~Zak

    No upgrades new accounts only

    • Dr. P

thanks…i guess i’ll have to get all 3 new lines, and then port my numbers and then cancel 3 old lines :( thanks

  • Phamine

Looking to add an HD2 to my family plan.

Can I add a new line in order to get the phone for free and then transfer the data plan to one of my existing numbers?

That way I can use the phone and data on an existing number rather than the new number?

    • Awatt

Whatever line gets the phone has to have the data for two years as it will have a required feature. If you’re wanting to add this third line then use the phone on another line you’ll end up spending sixty bucks a month in features… in that case you spend 1440 dollars in that two year period so it’s probably cheaper for you to just buy the phone out at full price not to mention if you don’t even need this third line you have the cost of that third line as well. Also, it’s free after mail-in-rebate.

  • boda

@Dr. P I am going to try your first suggestion. Our account is under my wife’s name. We have even more plus with 3 lines. I am going to open an account in my name this Saturday, port the numbers over and close her account. Hopefully I’ll get 3 new phones.

  • Dominick

is this only in stores or can i do this by phone?

    • Dr. P

stores only, from what i’ve heard!

      • Dominick

Oh ok Ill try to call by phone first.. Also, If i get the HD2 can I cancel one of my line and get the HD2 and use my old number for the HD2?

  • MB

You can not port over a even more plus number to a contract plan, the number has to be out of the Tmobile system for 90 days. You will lose your number

  • Wilma Flintstone

Great Ad. It’s true, the phones are free but you will get shafted with a family plan to anybody that doesn’t understand what this free stuff is all about.

Isn’t it a little late to be showing this ad though? The sale is 2 days away. I would think that they would’ve started showing an ad such as this one about 3 weeks ago so alot more people would’ve known about it. Ah well, guess Tmo needs new Marketing staff.

    • Wilma Flintstone

Also, I hope this is a plan to make room for the awesome Project Emerald Device. Come on Tmo, Spill the Beans already

      • pimpstrong

otherwise the mob will get angry(er)!

      • jake

        not happening yet

    • ItsMichaelNotMike

Wilma has it right folks. This promo is not designed for existing customers, it’s really for new activations.

Any existing T-Mobile customer would end up paying too much for the phones.

For example, I have not heard anyone discuss data. My understanding is that if you cancel your Even More + plan, or even your current plans and then have your wife, for example, open two to three new plans, that you will lose the terms of you existing plans.

I dunno about others, but I am paying $25 monthly for my “unlimited but really limited” data plan. That’s $50 a month for two lines.

Doesn’t data now cost $35 for new activations? So that’s $20 monthly you have to add to the cost of getting these phones.

Moreover, I am not sure, but I thought Even More Plus people, including myself, pay less for talk than contracted family plan folks. At the time I switched to EM+ my plan went down $20 monthly. So if you switch to a family plan, two lines, that’s another $20 monthly you will be paying.

Not sure on any of these numbers, but it seems wise to pencil this out and figure out the true cost of these “free” phones rather than get caught up on getting free phones, no matter what the ultimate cost.

      • beastly

Dude, if you’re on Even More Plus and you’re paying $25 each for two lines of data, you’re paying too much. Call up customer care and have them get you the $20/line pricing you *should* be getting on your first two data lines under Even More Plus.

      • RockTripod

beastly is right, and Mike, it is friggin’ unlimited. Where did you get the idea that there is a cap?

    • daniel

Umm Wilma, you couldn’t have advertised it 3 weeks ago for two reasons….

      1) then you have no one activating for those 3 weeks because they are waiting for the promotion.

      2) Kind of goes with #1. This is like a Black Friday Sale at Best Buys. There are only so many of each phone available. So if you activate today you are guarenteed the phone you want. If you wait til Saturday you may not get the phone you want.

There are no rainchecks…. when the phones are gone.. they are gone..

  • jimbo

I’m going to put this simple things to know only free phones on new lines has to be a new activation ($35) activation fee secound you can not port ur number to another new line you activate from a line out of contract some reps think you can but all you will do is get a headach they will say it will work trust me it doesn’t third even more plus lines can not move to a contracted plan so change of responsibility is out the window fourth project emerald was the slide its out already and last but not least store only don’t was your time calling and moaning about not able for upgrades to get the free phone you will get nowere but fustrated

    • Frustrated

Know what else is frustrating? Reading your post. At least add some punctuation!

    • wack mode

first ppl that work for government or companies and are in the milatary get a discount and get the $35 activation fee waved. yes it is possible to get your number again beacuse first u have to request it from tmobile then cancell your account and get the other line then u recieve it simple. ok if project emerald is the slide then WTF IS HTC SIDEKICK TWIST???????????? tell me that genius get your facts straight. ohhh and by the way i work for tmobile thats how i know all these things stupid!

      • En2Mente

So what is the deal with project emerald? It’s been weeks since we last heard about it.

  • Miguel

Radio shack has a better deal. All phones free. Any plan. No need for family plan. No activation fee. No rebates.:

    http://phandroid.com/2010/06/17/radio-shack-1-ups-t-mobile-will-offer-all-phones-free-regardless-of-plan-type/

  • http://yorocko.com Rocky

I’m so there. I arranged with a guy yesterday to have two MyTouch 3g slides waiting for me. One red, one white. Miguel, the only problem with Radio Shack is that they only have that phone in black.

    • wack mode

You should always think twice before getting a 2 year contract with a third party company trust me. You might as well go to the main T-Mobile Reatil store and activate there.

  • Sam

I pay 49.99 for 750 mins a month for two lines(Even More Plus) NO CONTRACT…

#1 can i add a line and still keep paying the same price with a 2 year contract??

    Thanks alot

    -sam

  • wack mode

if u decide to get on the 2 year contract it would be even more 750min $59.99 plus $10 for the add a line unless u get the promotional plan that adds a line for $5.
or if u stay on the no contract its going to be even more plus 750min $49.99 and the add a line for $10.

  • antonio

i think everyone is forgetting that the BOGO is still on til the 20th. and the HD2 has just been added back in to the offer. So if full upgrades are your only option you can still get one of them free. I’m a T-Mobile employee at a playground store and hope that this sale will bring in alot of new customers. Good Shopping!

  • Big-E

I can almost assure you that if you were to go in and say you only wanted one line but you wanted to take advantage of a free phone you will not meet with too much of a fight. Maybe the policy-stricken types will give you a brick wall, but I would assume most reps will go to their manager and will have a 50-50 shot of getting a ‘YES.’

They will want numbers and they won’t turn away every person that just wants to activate one line.

Upgrades are a different story and it would just be a waste of your time and theres to even try and fight that one.

  • DEE-XT

OK SO I JUST HANG UP WITH TMO CORP STORE. THEY SAID ALL!!!! PHONES WILL HAVE “SOME KIND” OF REBATE. SO YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY UP FRONT AND THEN MAIL YOUR RECIEPT TO GET YOUR REBATE. HE COULD NOT TELL ME EXACTLY HOW MUCH WOULD HAVE TO BE PAID UP FRONT. ALSO FOR ALL OF THOSE PPL WHO PLAN ON TRYING TO OUT SMART TMO, THERE WILL ALSO BE A REQUIRED DATA PLAN FOR ALL SMARTPHONES FOR THE 24 MONS CONTRACT.

IDK SOUNDS TOO SNEEKY, WHY COULDNT THEY TELL ME HOW MUCH THE UP FRONT COST WOULD BE I EVEN ASKED FOR A SPECIFIC PHONE. ????

I THINK ILL JUST WAIT TO SEE WHAT BETTER PHONES ARE COMING!

  • Miguel
    • DEE-XT

@ MIGUEL- UR RT BUT IT SAYS “MAY APPLY” INCINUATING NOT ALL OR SOME. MY POINT IS WHY R THEY BEING SO SECRETIVE OF HOW MUCH YOU HAVE TO PAY. SO IF THEY SAY YOU HAVE TO PAY FULL PRICE AND THEN GET A MAIL IN REBATE, THAT WOULD BE OK? ALL IM SAYING IS I DNT LIKE HIDDEN FEES. I LIKE KNOWING WHAT IM GOING TO HAVE TO SPEND NOT WALK IN THERE N THEN FEEL OBLIGATED. SORRY IM NOT ROLLING IN DOUGH THAT I CAN GO AND SPEND WHATEVER AMT THEY WANT.

….BTW WEN I CALLED CUST CARE TO SEE IF I QUALIFIED FOR AN ADD’L LINE ( IM ON A FAMILY PLAN) THEY TOLD BE THERE ARE LOTS OF PHONES FOR FREE RT NOW THRU THEM.( OVER THE PHONE) THEY OFFERED ME A CLIQ XT FOR FREE. WHICH BTW I HAVE ALREADY AND LUV! I WANTED TO SEE IF I COULD GET THE HD2 FOR FREE BUT W.E I’LL JUST WAIT FOR BETTER ANDROID PHONE.

      • wack mode

UMMMM ITS CALLED BUSINESS DUHHH THINK WITH YOUR HEAD AND ITS NOT A HIDDEN FEE BECAUSE THEY DO SAY RABATES MY APPLY SO THEY R TELLING YOU

  • DEE-XT

@ WACK MODE- WOW UR ARE REALLY ANGRY, YOU WOULD THINK THIS IS UR BUSINESS! UR RT ITS A BUSINESS BUT THEY CAN STILL BE STRAIGHT UP AND FREE AFTER MAIL-IN REBATE NOT REBATE “MAY” APPLY! MAYBE HIDDEN WAS THE WRONG WORD! I DONT LIKE SUPRISES IS THAT BETTER!? WOW CALM DOWN!

  • wack mode

there we go much better its just the way u said i didnt like and its not my business but i work for them.

  • Spencer

I have never understood why the loyal customers who pay tmobile every month are punished for their loyalty while ppl who pay verizon or sprint or whatever get extra benefits just cause they were gladly paying for another company…

  • whyhellomichael

T-mobile does reward existing customers, there has been BOGO for the past several months, access to the unlimited loyalty plan last year, better discounts EARLIER in your contract (yes its a contract, customers should live up their end of the contract, not just t-mobile).
the phones that require a rebate at this point will still have the rebate eg: hd2 will be 50 bucks out the door, and you get 50 back. In corporate stores you can split whatever the initial amount is over 4 months using the installment plan eg: get two hd2s for 100 bucks out the door (a killer deal!) paying 25 bucks down instore (initial installment) and then getting your rebate back BEFORE the installment ever hits your bill (6 weeks for the rebate, installment doesn’t hit for at least 60 days). T-mobile is a FOR PROFIT company which a lot of subscribers completely ignore, and this a GREAT sale–this isnt just for brand new customers, we are PUSHING add a lines for our existing customers. we are letting EXISTING customers convert their 10 dollar add a lines from before to the 5 dollar price. How is that not rewarding?

Not qualified for a full discount yet? chances are if you have been with us for a decent amount of time, and you call care, they will cut you a hell of a deal on an upgrade. usually better than new customers. don’t go into conversations with care or your retail store with an “i deserve everything for free and served on a silver plater” attitude and chances are you will get what you want.

Most of the feature phones will be free out the door, and if you don’t qualify for an individual discount program to get a 10+ percent discount off your bill and no activation fees you are not looking hard enough. the discount can be something your AUTHORIZED USER qualifies for as well, AAA, most universities and community colleges, hospitals, state or county employees, etc. etc. Sales Reps look for these discounts and can look them up for you! and i bet if you really complain about the mir you can get your local store manager to give you the rebate in store, happens all the time!

its sales like these that are meant to boost post paid customers that will then trickle down advantages to existing customers. more new postpaid subscribers=better network coverage, the ability to get more high end handsets in store, have better staffed stores and customer service. /end rant

  • MushyWhack

whyhellomichael: are you sure that pdp pr whatever it is called now can be applied under the authorized user? I was always under the assumption that it was only the account holder.

  • jimbo

It can be a authorized user for the discount and to revert back to my old post wack mode your right they can do a request for old number back but do to new checks that tmobile put into the system they will get denied and them you get the fun job of lieing to the customers and your not the only employee on this site I know things and that’s why I know requests will fail

  • jimbo

Sorry my spelling sucks but you know what I’m trying to say

  • cholo

the corporate discount applies for anybody on the account, the primary or the authorized user ..this policy recently changed before was the primary only..btw the AAA discount is not longer in effect…

  • cholo

you can activate a new line, then cancel a line without contract, wait 24 hours and call to request “old number back” to replace your newly activate line…

  • jimbo

Key word request not a 100% will go through

  • mayonna718

Quick question I got tmobile about 2 months ago i have a family plan with two lines.. If I add a third line does it count for a free phone? I must know soon… I want to get the phone for my husband… the only con to this is I will have to pay 5.00 to add a line every month which isnt bad because the phone I want cost 450.00.

  • jb

ok it says all phones free right. So does that mean that internet iz free on it as well

    • cholo

please dont call customer care with that question

  • jimbo

    Lol no

  • cholo

@ mayoma any new line activated on your family plan will have a free phone, remenber is this phone is a smartphone the data is required (sidekick, blackberry, android or windows phone) also to qualified to be on a $5 per additional line, you must be now on a plan that shared minutes (either the 750 or 1500 minutes) and sign a new 2yr contract for all the lines.

  • isaac

I just got off a chat with a Tmo cust service rep and she said that when adding a line to an existing family plan will NOT require the other lines on that plan to have ANY contract extension. Just the new line.

    • cholo

if you keep the plan as is, the 2yr contract is only for the new line, BUT if you want this additional line to cost $5.00 , you will be required to renew contract on ALL lines

  • raachel

ok so my family plan now is 400 min for about $50. Do you think t-mobile will let us have the free phone if we change our plan by adding unlimited text and a new line? or do i have to change my plan to the ones on their website? sooo how much would it cost for 400min talk and unlimited text with an extra line? also can i still get the mytouch 3g slide if i dont want web? thanks

    • cholo

the free phone is only if you ADD a line, regardless if you change or keep the rate plan…the 400 minutes is a plan that cost $49.99, the additional line is $9.99 and unlimited text for all the lines is $24.95.(around $85 + tax)….mytouch 3G slide will required the $30 web plan…,if you dont want the web, you need to be looking for a different handset…

  • LuvtheSlide

Hello everyone. My friend went into a radioshack today and got 2 lines on contract and two free phones. Then his bestfriend works for a corporate store so he called customer care and stated that the customer just returned the phones back to radioshack and to please cancel this contract, buyers remorse. With no questions asked, customer care cancelled it as returned phones since it was a corporate store. Think he got away with two free phones? I gave him my opinion. Whats yours?

    • cholo

customer care cannot cancel a line unless is been returned to the same point of sale, if the accounts are cancelled now, he got 2 free phones …
