CLIQ.KeyboardOpenSideThreeQuarters1

With T-Mobile announcing the official pre-ordering date for the Cliq on the19th, it looks like the MotoBlur powered device has already landed in some T-Mobile subscribers hands. And if you still can’t decide whether you want the Motorola Cliq, maybe some  in-detail pics will help you decide? I have to admit this baby looks beautiful and very solid. If you’re a current T-Mobile subscriber feel free to pre-order the Cliq and receive it no later than November 2nd. And if your planning on switching over to T-Mobile (which is a GREAT idea) you guys will have to wait until the November 2nd release date. Nice looking phone, now how will it preform?

  • kekoa

the need a real g1 replacement….the clic is for the little kids using the sidekick. im ready to go back to windows mobile and get a hd2..

  • timmyjoe42

I want this phone, but the upgrade time is a long time away…
I wish we had the MotoDroid instead.

  • kekoa

timmy, when did you get your phone and upgrade last? i bet with project dark coming out u can upgrade…..

  • userfriendlyme

umm i already have my cliq from the pre order tmobile works fast. i would say its a fairly good phone. to the person who posted it as being just a sidekick replacement…….well you obviously havent used the phone yet. Itcertianly is not a kiddie phone. doesnt feel cheap has allot of great features and syncs with about every aspect of your life you could want. the keyboard was a little getting used to but the performance is much much better then the g1 and the battery life i dot know how motorola did it but kudos on the battery life. With all thats being updated in the background thisphone retains battery pretty well i used it allot and got through most of my morning and afternoon before having to charge it again and that was after very heavy usage.

my only complaints That the packageing couldve been much better the cable for the charger is extremely short it is almost laughable they would include that and it comes with no case pouch or nothing to hold your phone……and trust me i already looked for one at tmobile they dont even have accessories listed for the phone yet.

but i would say for those of us with G1s for over a year this is def one to try out. its affordable and fits pretty well as a g1 replacement

  • rockerolla

And the Droid cloud rains on the Cliq parade.

  • jmts80

Hate to pile on but i would only b interested if this was the Droid. Y does t-mo always get the inferior less capable phones :(

  • david

    Nice!!!!!!! :)

  • http://MIKERIOSISAWHORE.COM Mike

I extended my contract yesterday (keeping my 1000 whenever minutes with N/W for $39.99, 400 text for $3.99, and added T-Mobile Android Web for $25 before it disappears, and am still saving over $300 more over the next 2 years with the equivalent 1000 minute Even More Plus plan..) and pre-ordered my Cliq, however, does anyone know if this thing comes with the car charger that was advertised online? I asked the Customer service rep that helped me last night, but she had no idea… Thanks!

  • helloo

phone is MOTO™ so its cool! :)

  • Kickstar13

This is definitely a nice device. :)

Can’t wait until it its rootable (if that’s even a word).

  • Mike

The new phone plans are suppose to drop MyFavs correct? Well, in one of the pics I can easily see MyFavs displayed on the box of the Cliq.

Question: If the new plans go live on the 25th, and this phone doesn’t go onsale until Nov 2 to general public, then why is the MyFavs displayed on the box?

I suppose this decision was made after new rate plans were ironed out? Has any other new phone yet to release been seen to carry the MyFavs moniker?

  • kekoa

ive used the phone…and i work for tmobile….i dont like it. there are much better phones on the way.

  • helloo

    @mike nice noticinng

  • Andy

To all the naysayers, I say poo! Mine arrived this afternoon and I like it a lot and I’m posting from it right now. I have to have a physical keyboard as I’m quite busy on it all day long so I don’t have to be glued in my cube. Blur is wonderful as it offloads cpu and memory hog apps off onto the servers. Its not a sidekick… the os and data is all local for the poster who didn’t have a clue. I migrated from a G1 in 10 minutes everything automatically downloaded once I put in the appropriate credentials.

I ordered the white one on the 20th and when I got home on the 21st it was there. I love the Cliq coming from my rooted G1. It is so much faster and the life of the battery is not bad at all. I made a demo video and if you would like to see the quality here is the link. Enjoy.

  • timmyjoe42

@kekoa I’ve had my Pearl about 14 months or so, but I’m not quite sure. I know I have a long time until I can upgrade. :( I’m also the second line to a phonethat was converted to a family plan.

  • tmorob

Got in two days. Posting from it right now. Love it!

  • Tre Bor

See my review under the forums for an in depth look at this device…

  • http://tmonews.com terryjohnson16

I played with this device. It is really solid. Doesn’t feel cheaply made like the G1/MyTouch.

But the interface, is almost the same as the G1/MyTouch.

  • nerdlust

Sweet phone if the BB9700 wasn’t coming out I would buy this phone! However I do need corp Calendar, contacts email. I heard it has trouble on the corp sync!?! You can only get email.

  • abi

@ terryjohnson16 uh the reason its the same interface is cuz its android and all that changes is the motoblur home screen or UI which ever u wish to call it

  • phill

I recived the Cliq yesterday and I was not impressed at first. But after playing with it for a day and the battery life is alot better than my G1. The screen is crisp but smaller.

  • http://www.i-appreciate.org alt-mobile

When will the G1 v2 or whatever it’s called come out?

I’m waiting…I’ll even take off my shirt and do a seductive dance if they come out with it soon…

I want to get a powerful Android phone…I’m using a Palm Treo Pro (WM) Unlocked on my T-Zones internet and will only switch to the 3G coverage when T-Mobile comes out with a solid phone that is fast, sexy and fast…

    Come on…please…I’ve been waiting patiently…

*lifts shirt up for a preview* you like that don’t you magenta? bow chikka wow wow…

  • basschica

I received my cliq yesterday and for the price point I am super happy. Sure I’d like OLED and HD, but this is not a bad device. It feels like it will hold up to some abuse and yah, why no case? I mean I know other providers are not known for providing them but Tmo almost always has case and memory cards. I did get the car charger which was cool and I do agree the power/usb cord is a bit short. I really like the interface and my biggest issue with Android is that I can’t auth at work where we have a Cisco WCS redirect (with a self-signed cert) so it kills the browser. I wish there was a work around to it (webkit issue which apparently apple fixed for Safari, but Google hasn’t for their browser on Android). I tried OperaMini which doesn’t like wifi, how lame. I did grab steel (no go on that) and I have a couple others to try Monday. The 5 desktop interface is great, so I can organize which widgets and icons are on which. Overall, I’m really impressed with this phone. I was surprised how many great free Android apps there are and I really think the Android site should list them all instead of saying “check out Android Marketplace from a phone” because I bet a lot more people would buy the phones with Android if they realized there’s a ton of great free apps.

  • sam

It perforfms just as well as it looks…..it has soo much more memory than my G1 … have 3 times the amount of apps loaded and I am only using up 20% of my memory where as on my G1 I was using up 85%… plus its so much prettier

  • andrew

the cliq looks sexy with the silver on the sides and the red

  • LaNsLyDe

Yea the phone is a beast. Battery life is the same..almost as my G1. Yea the charger came and the usb is short..so that makes 3 of us who think so. But amazon sales 6 FT ones for 3 bucks :D.

I’m waiting on root to be achieved on this baby…

if ne1 cares…the recovery screen can be used via touch :) (power on and hold the camera button)

  • RexGrossman

I like the G1 better, but that is just my opinion

  • Mauro

I pre-ordered my Cliq and received it on the 22nd. It effing RAWKKKSSSS, Motoblur is SIIICCKKKKK, it really kicks the Android ante up several notches and gives the phone a sleek and futuristic feel. I upgraded from a G1 and while I love my G1 and have nothing but fond memories with it, the Cliq is light years sexier than the G1 and Motoblur makes it infinitely c00ler. Worth every penny! It was an early B-day prez to myself!

  • SEAN

I can’t believe people are even mentioning the droid. It may have some cool internal features, but its an extremely ugly phone. It’s boxy looking and has a very 80′s feel. And for those of us who were around in the 80′s(and not in diapers), it was probably the worst decade for fashion and design.

The Clig is actually a really good looking phone. I ordered one for my fiance. I received it on Thursday. I’ve been playing with it while my Lady is on a business trip. It’s a great little phone. The glass screen is a huge improvement from any of the HTC models out there. it’s very responsive. The only problem at first was the lag after start up due to almost all the apps running(which is a problem with all the Android phones so far…nothing advanced task manager cant cure.

The keyboard is one of the best I’ve tried. If i was gonna get another physical keyboard phone this would be the one I’d get(I have the G1 and ordered the Mytouch because I don’t personally like physical keyboards). The Cliq feels solid. it’s a well built phone. The slide mechanism is extremely sturdy and high quality….quite the opposite to my G1 which feels very flimsy and squeaks when flip open the keyboard.

Motoblur is quite innovative and cool. I’m a big Facebook user and it integrated it seamlessly. It also moved pretty quick with the widgets on the home screen. If they bring this UI to a non-physical keyboard phone…I’m all over it….but…I’ll be waiting for them to also use a 1g processor…

  • Wicked1

Man, I don’t know. I want a new phone so bad, but I want to see what else is coming, the specs of the Cliq are not way better than the G1 and the MT. And the reviews I read from all the tech sites/blogs were mixed. But then if I preorder it today I’ll get to keep my same plan, which I like. The Cliq comes with QuickOffice which lets you read and edite Word, Excel, and Powerpoint files, without having to buy the $40 app in the Android Market, it has a physical keyboard. But then it’s not rooted, comes with Android 1.5, and it seems there will be delays in getting the updates to the Cliq when they come out. Plus I’m trying to wait and see if I’m gonna get this #100 from TMobile. And I really wanted to test it out, feel it, see how it works before I bought it, and I’m sure probablyt like $40 bucks will get knocked off the price in Dec. I don’t know, maybe I’ll just bite the bullet today and pre-order it, I don’t know, I’ll have to think about it some more. I don’t know, I have a feeling that if I buy this, then something better is gonna come out in like January.

  • mikeeeee

i did a little price comparing yesterday and got sticker shock.

i’ve been with t-mo since ’01 and was clueless how much the other guys charge for inferior service, not to mention lousy customer care.

my only beef with t-mo is i have to carry around 2 phones because they don’t have a UMA android.

    it aint worth switching.

at the rate they’re spitting out beautiful hardware it’s only goin’ to get better.

boy oh boy do i wish one of these sexy new androids had UMA.

  • Wicked1

Ok, so I went back and looked at the “rumored” prices of Project Dark. They aren’t rumored people, these are the plans, everything that is rumored, with official T Mobile logos always turn out to be true. Anyway I read the analysis and it said all the plans that exist now, will become grandfathered for current customers, and won’t be available anyway after tomorrow. So, I’m gonna call T Mobile today asked about the loyalty plans that are still going on and see if 1 fits my needs and is cheaper than what I’m already paying, if not I’m gonna preorder the Cliq, so my current plan will be renewed for 2 years. Right now, I get 1000 anytime with unlimited Nights and Weekends (Promo that ends in March 10) for $40 plus $20 for the sidekick plan, $5.99 insurance, Callertunes, and taxes my bill is about $70-$72 a month, but with my corp discount knocks off $8-$9, so its like $65. According to this project dark plans I would have to pay like $80-$95 for the same thing, I’m moving to a different phone so data plan will be more, so I might as well just order the Cliq so I will have my current plan for 2 more years, and if I want to switch to one of the Even more Plans a year from now, I won’t be charged a fee.

  • alex

@Wicked1, check to make sure your corp discount is compatible w/ the Loyalty plans before you switch. I heard they might not be

  • 30014

To everyone that likes this phone, I say more power to u. But don’t knock those of us that want something more powerful on the inside. I don’t care about a phone being pretty, if I did I never would have gotten the g1. Hardware is just as important as software, and until tmo realizes that their phones will continue to be viewed as 2nd rate by many of us. Which android phone is the talk of the cellular world rigjt now? It sure as hell ain’t the cliq.

  • mikemeat

this is the FIRST android phone worth buying.

    Here are it’s flaws.

    1. Slow hardware. makes android feel slow and slugish.

This can be fixed in two ways
    a. optimize software to be more efficient
    b. get faster hardware and more memory

    2. No multi touch without rooting the phone.

    3. dropped calls when switching from 3g to 2g.
The iPhone doesn’t drop your call if 3g is unavailable.

  • Russ

Tell me you you don’t want to get this phone just to use with Nesoid?! And SNESoid!?

  • Boki

Good replacement to the G1. I’ve read and heard that the Cliq is not as “sturdy” as people think. The guy on Phonescoop said that the phone feels solid, but that the screen gets a little wobbly. That may be just the pre-production model, but as with many slider phones they do tend to become a little shaky. I just got a Mytouch, but this seems like a great Android powered phone.

  • nyijedi

Man, the Droid just destroys any desire I may have had for replacing my G1 with the Cliq. The Droid is just better in every single way. Come on TMO – what the hell? Why does it seem we never get the TOP quality phones? We’re always getting a tier below.

  • kekoa

@timmy you can upgrade tommorow…it will be a 35 dollar activation fee per line and u get a new phone discounted.

@sean im glad u find it ugly, i dont like it. 4 rows for the keyboard, ugly design…htc needs a g1 replacement. like i said the cliq is aim towards sidekick users, and the price will be coming down quick.

  • Wicked1

People stop dissing the sidekick. Has had the same problem has android, slow hardware for a long time, and it’s completely closed to 3rd party Apps. I still haven’t seen a phone that can run multiple apps like it can. Stop saying its for kids, nobody I know, who has a sidekick is a kid, including me. It’s just a matter of taste.

  • d

@Wicked1 – that is a just the reaction a kid would have! good job

  • http://motorola-android.com Motorola Android

The Motorola Cliq looks great. We’re excited for all the new Motorola Android phones

  • Wicked1

I’ve done it, just pre-ordered the Moto Cliq, finally giving up my Sidekick *tear* I’m sad. Sidekick, baby, I’ll always remember my 1st time with you, I lost my T Mobile virginity to u, you were just a SK2 then and now we’ve grown up, and I have to say goodbye. I’ll miss you, we’ll always have customizable bumpers, skins, and times with no themes, hahaha. I really am sad though. End of an era.

  • jimmy

hey i just have to say i love the phone and mike yes it comes with the car charger i have the phone for 3 day now and i love it tmonews the best….

  • MAXIMUS

Cliq = G1/myTouch (in better looking casing)…oh now with MotoBlur. C’mon people….The Moto Droid and the soon to follow Desire have both upstaged all of T-Mobile’s lame Android offerings. Verizon has even marketed the handset better. I direct blow to the iPhone and from early reviews the Droid is the Android handset the world has been waiting for.

Try harder T-Mobile. What else do you have in your bag of missteps?

  • Akulamenuri

The happening widgets kill the battery life. I had to delete it from the home screen and set my brightness to the lowest setting to start getting decent battery life. On the plus side the device does feel really solid and the emulators run pretty well on the device (without sound).

  • PLEASE ANSWER!- Johnny

Does this phone have a flash on it? And how come Kekoa said it’s pretty much a Sidekick up grade kids phone? Please say no I have the Sidekick and hate it! I once had the MDA but lost it, and replace it for the Sidekick which I was a later told it was a Downgrade, function wise. Will this phone do the same?

  • Kickstar13

    @PLEASE ANSWER!- Johnny
This camera on the phone does not have flash on it. Also it is pretty much a grown-up Sidekick. It is for people how wanted to stay connected via Instant Messaging/Email/Twitter/FaceBook/etc.

In my opinion this is way better than the Sidekick device.
