Do a Google search of on T-Mobile merging with Sprint and you'll come up with a lot of hits. I won't be surprised if that is at least part of what this "Project Black" is all about. However, it is doubtful (and doubted) that T-Mobile will actually MERGE with Sprint, but rather gain use of Clearwire -- and therefore 4G/WiMax services. If you do a search to look at the stock market's view on T-Mobile gaining Clearwire, you'll see it's highly likely this is what is happening -- or at least part of it.

Basically, Sprint is in financial trouble ($21 billion in debt) and willing to provide Clearwire service, but plans to maintain it's majority (51%) ownership of Clearwire. That would mean a merger of some sort, but it doesn't necessarily need to be a complete T-Mobile/Sprint merger.

This would certainly be a "game changing" move for T-Mobile, especially if combined with a new, lowered rate plan (get the 4G service at a lower cost?) and possibly a new cool phone, and bam, they could potentially rocket up to 3rd place, just above Sprint, ironically.

At any rate, I'm curious to see what this all pans out to be on Oct 25th. I doubt it will be life-changing for customers, but it might just breathe some life into T-Mobile. I hope so, anyway.

I work for t-mobile and I don't think it is a 4g Network, new phone (Iphone, etc) or a merger. Merger's would have to be public knowledge for the stock holders and it takes a couple years for mergers to complete. A new phone would not be a "GAME CHANGER", even if it was the Iphone and believe me...we would be trained on a new phone at least a month before it came out. Based off of everything, I do believe it is a $50.00 unlimited everything plan. None of the call center reps have been told what it is yet, and we are supposed to get training on it only a couple days before the launch. Again, this is only speculation.

Project Dark is a pretty big thing for T-Mobile. Not only will employees be wearing new threads consisting of a black top and grey pants while they sell the BlackBerry Bold 9700 and two Nokia Nseries devices (the N900 and something else), but they’ll also be pushing something pretty amazing — a $50 all you can eat plan that includes voice, SMS, MMS and data. Apparently this plan will be called “Everything Unlimited” and is meant to represent T-Mobile’s new strategy which will essentially see it try and poach subs from various low-cost carriers.

4G would be nice but for some reason I smell a deal exclusively with Blackberry(RIM), and T-Mobile, hence the "Black Project". I am probably wrong, but that would shift alot of customers over to T-Mobile, and in turn, would def boost sales, which is their primary objective. It would also require employees to be trained on new service offerings. Oct 25th will be an interesting day I'm sure. The only thing I am not sure about, is the reason employees are working on Sunday...really that alone would consitute a 4G or WiMax rollout. Just like you folks, this is all speculation until we get some concrete answers.
