Not to be outdone by Honolulu or Philadelphia, Salt Lake City Utah will officially find itself among the ranks of 3G cities tomorrow, September 20th. That’s right, SLC residents, you have asked, asked and asked again when magenta would bestow its 3G goodness upon you and your prayers have been answered. Dramatic? A little, but you haven’t seen the emails I have begging for a release date! Happy 3G hunting Salt Lake City fans!

About time! Has this been confirmed from T-Mobile? There seem to be lots of conflicting reports about SLC’s 3G turn-on date.

I called Tmo Store here on SLC and they told me 3G launch will be on Monday morning

I was told by the T-mobile store in Orem, Utah that Utah County (Provo) would be included in this upgrade.

Who knows.. It’s strange that T-Mobile doesn’t advertise, post, communicate when this is actually going to happen. Maybe it’s because they don’t want to see behind the curve? Calling attention to a release of something other cell companies have had for years probably isn’t a good marketing strategy.

3G gets turned on between midnight and 5am local time. It is highly unlikely they would have turned it on last night. It is most likely they are turning it on tonight.

this is why i went and bout MT3g on its release date. how can i switch it to 3g or does it do it automaticly?

to flacco, it will change automatically but you have to make sure you have 2G-only disabled… from the main screen go to Menu > Start > Wireless Controls > Mobile Networks > Use only 2G Networks, and make sure its unchecked. If you have it checked, your phone will still use 2G and you wont even know if 3G is even there
