From what I’ve read, the battery is bigger (which is a nice ‘plus’), however there is NOT more internal memory. That is, I’ve read on multiple sites that the mytouch3g has 192 MB RAM – the same as the G1. Having more space would be a huge plus, but unless what I’ve read is incorrect, the only “upgrades” you’re getting is a sleaker/lighter look and a longer-lasting battery.

Why upgrade?

Let’s see… I have the G1, and my three biggest complaints are:
1. The phone is a brick! Yeah, if it had come out in the ’90s, this would have been a sleek beautiful handset. In 2008? Sorry.

2. Battery life… sucks!

3. Internal memory for storing apps on the G1? 72MB.

The mt is MUCH lighter and sleeker, is supposed to have much better battery life, and has about 280MB internal memory for storing apps!

If you people don’t know what you’re talking about, perhaps you should do some research.

If you HAVE to have a physical keyboard, stick with G1. If not, this IS a nice upgrade.

I don’t understand why people are saying the mytouch is “more responsive” and “everything the G1 should have been.” This phone has the SAME EXACT SPECS AS THE G1! I guess if you don’t have a G1 yet, the mytouch gives you a nice option (if you don’t want a physical keyboard and prefer Android’s half-a$$ keyboard that doesn’t utilize multi-touch for fast typing). I think TMO really dropped the ball here. I’d LOVE to spend some money on an upgraded Android phone, but the mytouch is hardly an upgrade. After some great stuff from TMO recently, this is really disappointing. No physical keyboard. Same processor. Same amount of RAM. Same size screen. No 3.5 headphone jack. Why should us G1 owners upgrade? I hope the Hero comes to tmo soon…what a waste the mytouch is.

I imagine that yes, Android updates will continue to come to all the devices. The whole idea behind Android is being open.

Besides, root the phone and you can install anything onto it. I know of someone who has installed the HTC Hero build on his G1, even though they have stated that build won’t come to Google branded phones.

i know this has nothing to do with anything! but does anyone know if you get a my touch and donut 2.0 comes out will we be able to get it just like g1’s were able to! or will they pull an apple and make us buy a new phone to experience the new stuff?

Man ima have to go to the store then to see if its out here, where you guys live at? Do they have them out everywhere you know. Im in the Baltimore area I’ll have to check, cuz I def want to get my hands on it
