    Right now I have a BlackBerry Curve 8320 for little over an year now, it have been great and never have any major problem, it was also my first BlackBerry.

    I would love to get this one as an upgarde, but I would hold out until around summer of this year to see what else does T-Mobile has to offer. I really hope T-Mobile will release some powerful Windows Mobile smartphone or a 3G BlackBerry, like the BlackBerry Bold.

    Or I just might switch back to AT&T to get a iPhone.

    That rep you talked to is a complete moron and has not idea what they are talking about. Cupcake is not even close to being released yet. Earliest we will see it will be Feb. if we are lucky.

    @tyson: Everything I have read and heard has said this phone will be UMA capable. I’m curious as to why it isn’t listed under the specs. The 8900 I was fortunate enough to mess around with was UMA capable, but it was not a production model phone. I don’t see why it would have been taken out but maybe it did.

    I would still say that it is going to be a UMA phone however.

    well if you look at T-Mobiles phones description, they label “High Speed” as 3G so I’m hopeing this runs on 3G,,this is all nice, of course its going to run your wallet dry, how much you guys think this’ll cost?

    [Reply]

  18. Mark says:

    Come on, no 3G… are you kidding me?

    [Reply]

  19. GP says:

    @Richard Castaneda: Don’t get your hopes up too much as it will definitely release without 3G. Cost wise, expect to see it in the $200-$250 range.

    @Mark: Although I am a little wary of the lack of 3G as well, the device runs rather well on EDGE. And the wi-fi option is always there when you need it.

    I’m super stoked about this phone coming out… I am a loyal Crackberry fan with my Curve, and my flip and my previous pearl. I’ve been waiting to get the white G1 but since I’m an employee I have to wait till mid-late january, but if the 8900 is coming out the 2nd week of February I can wait just a little longer. I have 1 upografe available for me I want to make it worth it. And in August I get 2 more.I want a 3G device, I know the 8900 doesn’t have 3G but I’ve read many good things about the browser on EDGE and the sleekness of the phone is just my type. Now I just want to know what this other “HTC Device” is on the Upcoming Phones list.

    Why do people ask the same stupid questions EVERY TIME. This is the same Curve 8900 that’s been out in foreign countries for a month and reviewed extensively. It is EDGE and not UMTS. What hole do you live in that you keep asking about 3G? Wake up. And yes EVERY TMO BlackBerry with Wifi has UMA. Keep up.

    i’m surprised at the amount of people that really don’t know anything about this phone. i mean…. its been released overseas already and in Canada. Plus… if you really wanted it you’d be following it and reviewing it on your own.

    [Reply]

  25. Elias says:

    @Chris: The reason the others are confused is because crappy
    Tmobile considers EDGE to be “high-speed” – that’s how they often advertise their EDGE phones, LOL.

  26. Mr. Moon says:

    Probably the Rep I talked to was talking about the RC30 update. Cuz he mentioned it would fix minor “bugs”. That’s when I asked if “cupcake” was gonna come with an on screen keyboard and he said no, “that’s why there’s an App in the market to take care of that”. Lol.

  27. JP says:

    For all of those of you who are worried about this phone not having 3G. Look up side by side comparisons. The edge 8900 is almost as fast as a Bold 3G! The only time it seems that it would really matter is when you are looking to talk and surf the net at the same time. Gotta give and take. 3g battery life is terrible right now.

    only t-mobile? maybe verizon???

  30. Toddboy71 says:

    @robert,
    A quick glance at the picture above ( which I am actually reading from my 8320 screen), says 512mhz. So yes, over 500.

  31. Drew says:

    Please……!! Can we shut up with the “No 3G???” Does WiFi w/UMA + GPS skip your translucent minds?? Is that your only comment?? Can we talk about how fast the processor is (512Mhz)or how bold and brilliant the High-resolution HVGA+ Display (480×360)screen is or maybe you can mix it up a bit and say how small it is compared to all the other Blackberry’s?

    I’m glad it doesn’t have 3G. AT$T’s 3G is crappy as it is so do you really expect it to work on TMO’s without a hitch?? Because that’s all I’ll here too is that TMO’s 3G is crappy or you’ll be b!+c#ing and moaning that your battery life is at 20% after 4hrs.

    Complain, complain, complain….don’t you get tired of complaining?? Just shut up and enjoy one of the best phones on the market, PERIOD!! Or go back to your “has been” Razr’s when life was simple and you weren’t any smarter than your “dumb” phone…

    3G sucks anyway. Just get wifi, a thousand times better. It’s like having your own cellular network_ nobody else hogging up your bandwidth. I love the lil whinebabies” if it doesn’t't have 3G, I’m switchin back to ATT” GOOD. Get the h*ll outta here. Go have dropped calls and sh*tty customer service with the oldest and crappiest carrier. 3G is slow as sh*t compared to wifi. And YES the 8900 has uma. Obviously. It wouldn’t be an update to the curve if it didn’t keep the original traits and improve on them. Everything u love bout your original curve is in the 8900, just a lot faster and better. Someone asked the processor speed…. Last I knew the 8900 has a 524mhz processor….. Twice as fast as curve. If I had to guess on price I’d say 499 full retail, 199 w 2 year. (That’s the original curve prices @ release) so all you babies whining about the lack of 3G, do not get this phone. Go to ATT so I can make fun of you when you expect their 3G network to work and you get nada. Only ATT thinks that ATT is the “best network in ameria”. My a**. I’ve used every network. Sprints the crappiest. ATT is the second crappiest. Verizon has an ok network but cheap, crappy phones and they still ask for deposits? What the h*ll? Am I buying a house or cell phone? The day I pay a deposit for a cell phone will be the day ATT goes out of business.(Never). Best network I’ve had is TMo. No dropped calls since 2001….and they didn’t have 3G the whole time……hmmmm

    Data Transfer comparison
    3G= up to 7 Mbps(upstream)
    Up to 3 Mbps (downstream)

    My Wi-Fi= up to 30 Mbps(upload)
    Up to 22 Mbps(download)

    Oh holy sh*t. 3G DOES suck compared to wi-fi. Why even bother with 3G? Nobody knows.

    @Homosluv3G
    .. umm cuz you cant always access a wifi hotspot?? and you can get 3G in most places. even tho these days you can almost always find a wifi to sit on for a while.

  37. Toddboy71 says:

    Perhaps it was different in other areas, but in Michigan, 8320 dropped at $249 after $50 MIR. I would expect the same on the 8900. Unless they feel the economy is such that they need to offer it at $199 after rebate, I forsee $249. Still a steal at that price.

  38. wagonis says:

    From all the UK users who have had the 8900 for a few weeks now, they have reported that the phone works much faster on the DGE network then the current 8320. As far as the 3G capability, the rumor is that the 9200 series phone will basically be the 8900 but with 3G added. There is also a rumor about a hybrid between the Bold and the 8900.

    Either way I HAVE to get this new Curve 8900 when it comes out.

    3G Really Does Suck! While waiting for the 8900, I have visited several AT&T and Verizon stores to compare 3G speeds on the Storm, iPhone and Bold compared to the speed on my 8120 Pearl. In many cases the Pearl beats the others on 3G or gets quite close. Definitely not enough difference, especially if the new processor enhances the speed as others have reported.

  42. TRobshi says:

    T-Mobile’s 3g really isnt that great. I have a G1 and having it on 3g is a little bit faster than edge, sometimes its not even noticible. Having it on wifi makes a huge difference though.

    Hey guys do you think data pricing on this phone will be cheaper than the G1 becuase it runs on EDGE?

    [Reply]

  45. Nic says:

    @B – i hope you are waiting for the storm cause verizon has it exclusive for one year just like t-mobile has the flip exclusive for one year.

    i have talked with people who had the iphone and got the 3g iphone and they said that it brought it up to the speed of t-mobile edge so go ahead and leave for att&t and get your 400 phone and min of 80 rate plan for a phone. sounds real smart huh.
    @ mario2k – have you had a blackberry made recently that doesn’t have thread messaging?

    [Reply]

  46. GP says:

    @Omar: Sorry to burst your bubble. But your argument is futile as neither the Bold, nor the Storm are even T-Mobile phones. Therefore, of course they are not going to have UMA. And FWIW, in Chris Meyer’s comment, he even says that he is only referring to T-Mobile phones with Wi-Fi.

    You wanna know why 3G is required for a data device?! On most EDGE devices, you will not be able to receive calls when data is transferring. If you get a lot of emails and calls, your callers will be leaving you plenty of voicemails or wondering what is wrong with your phone.
