T-mobile to ship new batteries to G1 owners (rumor)?

battery-life

Word coming from the guys at Google and Blog is that T-mobile may give G1 users a belated Christmas gift. Rumor has it, that new, longer life batteries are on the way along with compatible back covers for a perfect fit. The G1 has been plagued with complaints of shortened battery life and this will surely be a welcome gift to G1 fans.

No confirmation has come via T-mobile so for the moment this is strictly in the rumor column but its gaining steam virally and hopefully it comes to fruition.

In the mean time, while we wait lets hear what everyone received for Christmas! We’re going to lay a little low this weekend and enjoy some well deserved relaxation but the news will be back in full force starting next week. Hope everyone had a great holiday!!

A Tmo rep told me something similar in the beginning of January. She made it sound like we have to ask for this new battery, not that Tmo will just send it.

I did a focus group chat a while back that I imagine was sent randomly to G1 owners, and they basically asked us if power management software or a new battery was the best way to handle the power management issue. I guess most people said the latter.

If this is the case, then they are really a) listening, and b) moving quickly!

That is great, but sucks for those of us that have the InvisibleShield on our G1s!

I wish it didnt make the phone bulkier everytime they make new batteries…I just put my clear shell on my G1 and its already thick enough.

Wow! That would be effing sweet =]

Srsly, the battery is too short lived. You can just see the battery indicator draining when doing ANYTHING that requires the screen to be on .0.

Don’t forget you guys. This is a rumor only. There is nothing in $tre@ml!n3 about any battery replacement. I’m sure tmonews will find out before even I do if this will become more than just a rumor. No point in calling 611 just to get the same answer. Nothing official yet.

I’ll believe it when I see it in my hands.

If it DOES happen, let’s hope its nothing that its not going to give the phone some serious junk in the trunk with the new battery cover.

We had our HTC market rep come into our store and tell us that the current battery is allready an extended battery ala the one which many Shadows got upgraded it to. I’ll be impressed if he’s wrong…

Power managers still the best way to go kiddies

Whoops, I meant the beginning of December…a Tmo rep told me something similar in the beginning of December. She also said it should be ready some time this month, and all the Tmo reps got a memo about it. Although I called back around mid-December and they just sent me a new battery, even after I told the rep I didn’t want one.

Wow, that would be cool. This phone could really use some better battery life. If this rumor is true, I really hope this new battery does not add bulk. As a side note this phone really does not fair much worse then the Iphone. Just having a second battery to carry around would be nice, especially if the back panel came off a little easier.

i called up yesterday about poor battery issues and all i could get has a free battery that will be shipped to me. I don’t think it will be a high cap one.

Oddly enough, I manage my battery just fine on my G1 (always have a charger handy)… why the free battery but not give us a free headset adapter? The current G1 buyers get headset adapters, the early adopters get nothing. They can keep their battery if they send me an adapter instead.
