Moto renew shows itself, T-mobile going green

One last post of 2008!
The leaked list showcasing T-mobile’s lineup for the beginning of the year had a Motorola “Renew” device listed and none of us were quite sure what it is. Fortunately details are leaking out on just what new product Motorola is gracing us with, unfortunately nobody is going to care.
T-mobile is jumping on the “Green” bandwagon with the introduction of the Motorola renew:
“Exclusively from T-Mobile, the environmentally responsible MOTO W233 Renew is uniquely designed to reduce environmental impact by using sustainable materials in its design and packaging while at the same time delivering performance and quality customers rely on.”

Price and specs weren’t offered up but we can imagine they’ll be leaking shortly. The real question is, will anyone really lose sleep waiting on that information?

Wow! That looks so cool…wait no, no it doesn’t. Thanks again Moto for another **** non-feature filled phone for my carrier of choice, appreciate it. Looks like a toy version of that toy looking Rokr that came out like 5 years ago, you know the first itunes phone that wasn’t made by snapple.

Motorola already has an environmentally conscious phone, the w490. The “refurbished” ones just keep getting recycled over and over with the millions of w490 warranty exchanges done every day….

Uhhhh…. That looks like something an environmentalist crapped out after a long weekend of drinking wheat grass and eating tree bark…… I was hoping the “renew” would be a variation on the ZN4 or something decent like that. A freakin “green” phone??? Who gives a rat f*ck about that?this is by far the ugliest piece of **** to ever be produced…. Hopefully this will be Motorola’s final attempt at staying in business.

If Motorola wants to make a comeback @ all, perhaps they should start making phones that appeal to a wider demographic. Not many people will care about the Renew. Here’s why; 1) people buy cellphones to stay connected in a stylish way. We want 3G, wi-fi, full browsers, email, I.M. and at least a 3.2 MP camera. While it is good to care about the environment, its impossible to make a phone that has NO impact on the earth. 2) Real environmentalists don’t even use cell phones. Or cars for that matter…… I’m sorry but when it comes down to it, people are gonna choose full-featured smartphones over some “green” and ugly and utterly useless barphone from 1999

Please tell me this is April 1 instead of January 1. That is a weird looking phone.

Was thinking about changing to a Blackberry with TMO, even locked in the $19.95 data plan because I thought the new 8900 would surely be out before Christmas for sales purposes. I was wrong, was hoping some nice 3G smartphone would SOON come out that looks sharp like the Storm or Moto “Calgary”. Now I don’t know what’s going on with TMO phone selections, I know entry level phones are needed, but geez! Also I don’t really want to switch, cause I like TMO, but come on guys, this will make you think about it. And Moto get off your *** and get into the game. I’ve had good luck with moto phones, but the future phones shown recently should have already been out by now.

Who is running the marketing team at Tmobile? A lot of old geezers is my first guess. This mobile looks like it was made in the 1900’s. In a time when people are not spending as much. Looks matter when customers are dropping $ on a new toy.

Oh, so I will be green if I stop using my current phone and buy this? So the energy put into making my Motorola ZN5 will be waisted? This is the same as Steve Jobs proclaiming the new iMac was greener for certain reason. Sure these devices might be greener than others, but it’s actually GREENER to keep what you have. As for the Motorola haters, enough.

Motorola quality is good, but their phone designs SUCK! They need to fire the whole design team and hire one that design good looking and eye catching phones!

I think it is a great idea. Not everyone wants a phone that can control everything.
I would get it if it was on Verizon.
Will NEVER sign up with t-mobile.

It looks like something my elementary school kids would design…
I’m willing they picked up the pieces off the floor from all the spare and broken parts lying around the Moto assembly lines and said, “look what I made!”

i personally commend motorola for this kind of phone. the fact that more companies are honestly taking some of our waste and using it for something everyone can/would use is astonishing. i worry a lot about the shape of our planet, and the fact that motorola is taking charge and doing a little bit more of a part to help recycling the trash that we as people litter our environment with gives me a little more faith in the future of our planet’s health. not saying i’m completely impressed with options, but in my opinion, i could spare a few measly options for helping get more trash off our streets and out of our landfills.
