Well Kansas City residents, by now you probably have felt a little slighted watching other cities get the green light for T-mobile 3G services. Rest assured someone at T-mobile likes you and wants to have an early Christmas gift. Word coming in has T-mobile giving Kansas City the greenlight December 19th. It goes without saying this date is subject to any unforseen difficulty but things are looking pretty good for flipping the switch. Be sure to hit the comments next Friday and let us know if you really do get a gift from T-mobile!
Still no word on Cleveland, or any other Ohio city for that matter!

Yea wtf is going on? They have the network in Pittsburgh but havent hit the button. Magenta needs a punch in the throat!

[Reply]

I’ll believe this when I see. Of course, I don’t have a 3G phone yet as I haven’t seen anything worth while yet. Any news on what sections of KC are really getting this? Boundries? Last I heard it was mainly JoCo, which is not KC.
[Reply]
hurray for joco, don’t need anything else!!!
[Reply]
Last I heard, on 11/26, it would not be South of 151st in JoCo. So it is KC that is getting it. Not the Lower half, or as I like to think, the better half of JoCo. Lawrence and Tokepa were also getting 3G around the same time. My info may all be wrong. I was told that KC would have 3G by 11/22 – wrong. The source for the specific areas said it would be early January before we get 3G. We will have to see.
[Reply]
south of 151st is cow pastures and gravel roads, dont need it anyway.
[Reply]
Any farther south than 151st would be a little far out there, but how far north, Downtown/Gladstone/Liberty ????
*Crossing fingers that it extends to Liberty*
[Reply]
Do any body knows wen connecticut gonna get 3g any info plz
[Reply]
Well I live in joco(olathe) and my parents live south of 151st (159th) there’s actually a lot past 151st, junior, and elementary schools, shopping centers, sub-divisons, etc. I wasn’t aware lawrence was getting 3g, if so great. I’m in lawrence all the time
[Reply]
I am so excited. As long as they have it as south as 103rd I’ll be good. I just got my G1 and don’t know what 3G is like, so I am so happy.
[Reply]
That’s great for KC but where the hell is the loving for New Orleans?!?!? Where is Louisiana’s loving!!
[Reply]
Great Mall (Olathe) east to belton northeast toward independance, north to stadium, just north of the river than head west (following just north of river till you hit 435 then south back to the great mall, lawrence is no where on the map…

I have a friend who is a manager of a T-mobile store in Ohio and he told me that he heard from a network tech that they are trying to get 3G in Cleveland by the end of this year. I hope they do. If not then we will have to wait till Q1 of 2009.
[Reply]
I know the techs here in Cleveland have been working around the clock installing the 3G stuff into the cellsite base stations and the switch to try and meet a year end deadline so my hat is off to them. I hope they make it happen. I also got the scoop on a line up of cool 3G devices coming to T-mobile Q1 and Q2 of 2009 from my friend who manages a T-mobile store here in Ohio. Be prepared to be impressed (finally) by T-mobile’s phone line up! It’s about time! Happy holidays to all.
[Reply]
Seth- from what bk1 has posted, I’d say to not hold our breath on Liberty.
[Reply]
few more days for KC, still no news for Des Moines
[Reply]
@ David – Thanks for the info….every little bit helps with uplifting my depression of no 3G love here for Cleveland! Also, does your scoop warrant me to hold off on the top two choices for my next phone (G1 or Behold)????
[Reply]
Well i think i am getting the G1. He just told me that T-mobile will be getting a bunch of touch screen 3G phones but no specifics on what models. I keep drilling him for models but he won’t relent! I will let you know if i get models. I do know one will be a samsung similar to the behold but better with a 8mp camera.
[Reply]
So does anyone how far north in KC 3G will extend? Will it go up as far as the airport?
[Reply]
Kathleen- If you scroll up to bk1’s post, you will get your answer.
[Reply]
chimphappyhour I did see the post above. Just north of the river isn’t very descriptive. Anyone else know exact locations of how far 3G will extend up north? As far north as 152 or Barry Road or not even that far?
[Reply]
It was prett clear to me, the answer is that it will not reach that far. Just north of the river tells me that either the towers are just south of the river and barely reach over or they are just far enough north to make sure there is even coverage for downtown.
But if you want to see for yourself how much Tmo cares about us northlanders, you can see for yourself on the Tmo coverage map.

I had a 3g icon pop up on my phone for anout an hour on the 17th. Let me say that the surfing on my g1 was fast and the call quality was crystal clear. Very excited about the update tomorrow. I live in Overland Park by the way.
[Reply]
3G icon on the phone. Nice. Internet pretty fast. According to cnet, getting 404 kbps.
[Reply]
Nice. 3G on now. getting 756 kbps on speet test.
[Reply]
3G is here baby! I have been all over OP and south Kc and it works fine. I haven’t been to the rural areas yet tho
[Reply]
Got 3G as well. Been from Overland Park to downtown with no gaps. Speed tests all over the city are ~600kbps with 300ms ping times. That’s a far, far cry from the 1.8mbps promised and light years from the 7.2mbps originally promised. I hope this is just some growing pains.
[Reply]
I got 416.4 kb down and 114.4 kb up on 103rd st. in Overland Park. On Edge i got 130 kb down and 42 kb up.
