Blackberry 8900 release date…

o2_to_launch_blackberry_curve_8900_smartphone

We’ve previewed this highly anticipated follow up to the uber popular blackberry curve. We’ve been gifted with a hands on video from our friends at crackberry.com who gave us a great walkthrough. Now, we have a HOPEFUL release date…February 18th. Sources have all but solidly confirmed that T-mobile is planning to launch the Blackberry Curve follow-up, the 8900 alongside the Samsung Memoir  on Wednesday February 18th, 2009.

I should note, this contradicts an earlier report that the Curve would launch on the 11th of February but we’re going to stick with the 18th for the moment and we’ll update and confirm that date as necessary. Bottom line is sometime in February T-mobile blackberry aficionados will finally get their hands on the newest addition to the magenta family.

With the success of the Bold for the Blackberry, we can only further hope that a 3G T-mobile blackberry is right around the corner, and hopefully…it will come with better reviews than the Storm.

I wonder how many subs T-Mobile is losing due to their delay in offering new devices. The wait is excruciating.

Can’t wait to pick one up! Just played with one today and it’s a great phone!

@TH3 GAM3: In many ways, this phone is actually better than the Bold. And you’d be surprised at how the lack of 3G is not that bad as the phone works great on EDGE.

Finally, hopefully we can get these online on that release day. I know it lacks 3G and all, but from what users are reporting in the UK already is that this thing has much quicker response with EDGE and the newer faster processor.

    Curve 8900 vs Bold.

Curve = Better, higher resolution screen

Curve = substantially smaller (major bonus)

Curve = better camera (3.2 megapixel with flash and autofocus)

Curve = UMA (calls over Wifi)

Disapointing it is so much later than everyone else…..all will be forgiven if they price it like T-mo Germany or UK…..fat chance of that happening though I am guessing…..maybe I will have to soldier my 8320 on until the 9220 comes out…….in like 2020 or something…;-)

  19. ANgus says:

I love my T-M 8320 Curve. If this had everything the 8320 has + 3G and better performance. I will be the first in line to get on. Awesome! Thanks Tmo News!

    [Reply]

  24. GP says:

@Kaminsky: You are exactly right! People seem to look pass this fact. In reality, this phone is going to give you a solid 2 days without charging (sometimes a 3rd day even).

This really is an exceptional Blackberry device that I still can’t wait to pick up!

im not a blackberry kinda guy and will be riding the android bus for years to come however my gf has enormous amount of bills and stuff and i thought of getting her a bb kickstart as my corp discount gets me one for free with a new contract, (i just found out about my discount, i coulda been saving for months, the g1 is only 139.99 w/ my discount) but i think i am gonna hold out for this, my gf will appreciate its multi tasking and organizing abilities along with its smaller form factor, any one know a price? the discount page has all blackberrys free so i may be able to get this phone damn cheap if i wait til it hits the discount page for mywork.

  31. Hugh Jogg says:

@ th3Gam3: you’re a fake man. The 8900 will eat your little girly Bold for breakfast and sh*t out a BB Storm. What kinda camera the Bold got? Oh only 2 MP? That sux. 8900 has 3.2 mp….. How small is the Bold? Bigger than a G1??? That’s huge. 8900 is smaller than the Curve. 524 mhz processor, best screen on the market(yes better than Bold’s), oh and the 8900 actually has phenomenal battery life whereas the Bold sucks the life from batteries cuz of the crappy 3G(which by the way is TERRIBLE with the Bold)….. I would continue to list why the 8900 makes the Bold it’s b*tch but I have to find some other idiot who has no clue what he’s talkin about so I can embarrass him too….. By the way, the Game is a crappy rapper. In fact, rap sucks. Period. 8900 4 life Hooker

  32. Hugh Jogg says:

@ soviet and gp: Nokia sucks. My 80 year old granny has a Nokia. Quit b*tchin and get with the times: Blackberry stomps Nokia all over the pavement in all categories. Hands down. Nokias are cool if you’re old or ***. Which are you?

    [Reply]

  33. GP says:

@hugh: When did I say anything regarding any Nokia device?? The only two comments I’ve made in here have been very pro-8900. So might I suggest you pull your head out where it shouldn’t be and get your facts straight before you come in here and start leaving comments like that.

Damn. Does this site give props to anyone or do you all keep it for yourself and act like you are the ones who figured this out?
I posted this on my FB page 2 days before you and my man BG then posted it.
Now you guys post it and act as if it’s your own.
You really should give props where props are due rather than try and act like you “broke the news”.

    [Reply]

  35. David says:

@neenjah, perhaps you should look at the date and time stamp…We posted this on the 23rd, BGR posted it on the 24th…aside from the fact that Boy Genius linked it to us.

I am a nokia die hard and i wish t-mobile would offer the same kind of things that all the other places offer on their phones such as gps tracking. And I AM NOT OLD.

  37. Mexifornian says:

Without 3G the Javelin will be old news by the time of the US release date. Way to blow a new product release, Tmo! I moved the corporate account to Verizon and picked up 150 Storms. Minor user adoption issues, otherwise all good (and that 3G rocks!)

  39. greenie says:

I’ve been hoping for the Bold to be released by TMO and I have to admit that the 8900 looks good but why release a non 3G device? By the time it hits the market it is old technology. Must be that TMO still lacks an actual 3G network. Can’t see any other reason to put a new device on the market that is built on old technology.

  40. Eviltweety88 says:

3G is still limited! You’re probably going to be on your 2nd/3rd phone from NOW before the coverage is good enough to use over a majority of the US. WiFi with a fast processor will stay right with 3G and the UMA calling is great for people inside buildings with limited signal strength. I still don’t know if there is something that prevents a phone from having BOTH UMA and 3G? Is there a hardware conflict or someother reason you couldn’t have both?

  41. Trirunner says:

I was reading in the Best Buy Buyers Guide (Jan 2009, p. 9) ‘mobile’ that the e71, N95, N96 was available through Tmobile. Any idea whether the 3g frequency would work for both? I can’t find the 3g freq for Tmobile……

I just got off the phone with tmobile and with an upgrade its only giving $70 off the price.. its still over $350.00.. WOW what a dissapointment i thought they were going to sell it for 199.00 with an upgrade.

    [Reply]

  50. Wombat says:

I spoke with them last week and they told me that if everything goes according to the plan, the release date will be tomorrow Feb. 11 and the phone with a FULL discount will be $199.00. But they also do partial discounts so that might have been why they only take out $70 off the price for you..
You need to wait 2 years after your fist discounted purchase to get another full discount and I believe that the partial discount is after like a year or something..
