That’s right, news that I am sure has kept at least a few of you up at night! Effective December 1, the Nokia 5610 will make its return to the T-mobile lineup. After a little error in production causing it to be yanked from shelves, T-mobile and Nokia are proud to announce the return of this music centric device back to the holiday phone selection.
Of course the reality is that only a few phones were affected by a display issue that resulted from a production flaw and T-mobile took steps to remove the product from inventory before any more defective phones could be placed in customers hands. Regardless, T-mobile is aware that in the interim customers may have trouble with already existing devices and offered a number of solutions to help solve any troubles that may have arisen via warranty of insurance issues.
Look for this phone back in the Retail channels after December 1.
From all of us to all of you, Happy Thanksgiving!! This year, I am eternally thankful that we have been able to take this website from a casual hobby to a big time gadget blog and have seen our traffic skyrocket to levels we could not have imagined at the very beginning. Our success is not because of the information we present, but because of the loyalty and value of our readers. Thank you, thank you, thank you for helping us make this site a success!
This year I am especially thankful to be able to enjoy Thanksgiving in an a part of the country where long sleeves and winter jackets aren’t the norm. While its currently a “chilly” 64 out, that’s still almost double the temperature of where I was sitting typing these posts last week. So on that level, I’m thankful for being just a little closer to the equator this time around. Of course we are all thankful for great friends, loving families and Ben and Jerry’s ice cream.
Yet again I feel compelled to write that most importantly I am thankful to you, the readers who have helped make this site a terrific place to visit and an overwhelming success. When the three of us decided to formulate this site, we did so with only a mild idea of exactly what we wanted to accompolish other than to bring the news, rumors and hints, tricks, tips and whatever else we could to the T-mobile masses. I know things don’t always go smoothly or there is news we miss or imperfect presentations of information but no matter what happens, we always do it for you, the readers. For your viewership and your loyalty, we are MOST thankful!
So on behalf of myself, Shawn and Mystic, thank you!
What are you thankful for, lets hear it in the comments?
No matter how good the webkit browser is on the G1, people will always be looking for a better solution. Perhaps Opera is the answer to some prayers having hit the Android market. Crave that visual voicemail so you can pick and choose which love interest to call back first? Do that with visual voicemail as both features have landed and are taking the Android market by storm.
While current reviews of Opera have been generally positive and most reviewers are more bent up on the fact that are alternative options to the built in and shipped packaging, there isn’t much wrong with the webkit browser already available. Yet opera has built up a reputation of being reliable and a powerful little mobile browser available on a widespread array of devices. The familiar set of Opera mini features are here and available and new in this 4.2 release is the availability of skins, a little more personalization for your browsing experience. While skins may not be the first and foremost reason to download this alternative browser, it certainly shows a lack of promise for the Android system and for Google’s promise to hold back on not go all crazy on apps that compete with pre-existing offerings already available on the device. The verdict is its worth a look but don’t expect a webkit replacement just yet.
Ah yes, Visual voicemail, let me count the ways I love thee. I think without a question this one of the more useful features that the iPhone has touted since its release and one that I certainly hope becomes a priority for carriers to build into all future high end devices. It’s just so much fun to be able to pick and choose who to listen to first, its just great. Fusion visual voicemail is now available in the marketplace and as a little bonus, will display caller details regardless of whether or not the voicemail comes from a contact in your phonebook. Fusion voicemail however does require a little legwork to set up, you have to first register on Fusions site with your mobile number and email address, and then a quick change to the call forwarding settings and voila, visual voicemail! Try this feature out, its a joy to use.
Gizmodo did a quick little review of the service here and for the most part liked it but offered a few little quirks that we can hope will be ironed out in a future update.
Both apps are available now on the Android market.
Then colorware has the solution for you! Personally, I’ve always loved watching some of the color schemes these guys come up with and while I’m not brave enough to send my phone in, I can understand why someone else would. For just $175 bucks you can pretty up your phone to almost any color scheme of your choosing and show it off to all of your friends who are “stuck” with the OEM choices of White/Gray, Bronze and Black. Want to start from scratch with the phone? Buy it full price from colorware already done up in a color scheme of your choosing for a paltry $725 dollars. If you have some spare change this holiday season and fancy a pink, white and red G1, whip out that credit card and get it in time for the holidays!
The colorware guys do fantastic work and there is no question about exploring this if you fancy a dose of personalization for your laptop, phone or other devices that surround you.

Black Friday needs no introduction and if you aren’t quite sure what it is, I recommend standing outside your local Walmart at 5am this Friday. You’ll learn quickly. While T-mobile and its online store/retail side may be our first thought for Black Friday deals, they aren’t the only game in town. Ritz Camera is getting in on the fun if you’re willing to brave the hordes of shoppers you can get a BlackBerry Curve 8320 for free after a $100 mail-in rebate. Want a suretype keyboard? Get a BlackBerry Pearl 8100 for free after a $100 mail-in rebate. Perhaps a flip Blackberry is your idea of a good time, the BlackBerry Pearl Flip Kickstart 8220 (still love that name) is also available for free after a $50 mail-in rebate. Dont’ forget with your blackberry purchase also get you a…..FREE 7” digital picture frame. Unfortunately all of these deals require a new 2-year activation, a voice plan of $39.99 or higher and a BlackBerry add-on that is $19.99 or higher.
Well yet again we are back playing the numbers game and wondering just how many G1’s will sell before years end? We’ve heard inflated numbers, numbers that were a little more realistic and now we get word HTC is increasing its sales projections!
HTC CEO Peter Chou expects to ship at least 1 million Android phones before years end. Which is of course really great, it’s exciting to see the phone has been a success, regardless of some initial launch problems. With the Android market gearing up for next year and the introduction of paid apps, I think its safe to say that the future of the G1 looks quite upbeat.
I have to say its really quite frustrating though to see a number of blogs yet again comparing sales numbers to the iPhone. While the comparison I suppose is inevitable, the contributing factors are vastly different. What would the G1 have posted sales wise had had it sold simultaneously in 20 some countries upon launch? Obviously one can’t predict such things but its increasingly frustrating to have every article about the G1 have a comparison to the iPhone. I’ll be doing my best to eliminate that from this site.
I know this is coming to this blog later than most but its news and as such is still worth posting. As some of you already know the white G1 is now available in (some) T-mobile stores. We’ve definitely had some mixed information about the availability of the white model as of late. First, it was announced it wouldn’t be until after Thanksgiving, then we heard it WOULD be available and by the 24th…and voila, it is!
Still not wild about the white/grey combo myself but I do prefer the clean look of the white more so than the bronze or black. Lots of discussion going on here and here.
However, if you believe the white G1 is the solution to all of your wireless problems, check your local T-mobile stores and see if they have one sitting in inventory calling your name, just waiting for you to come and pick it up, hold it, caress it, love it, feed it, give thanks for it.
First let me say, I know the article about the White G1 in stores is delayed and should have been up here long before other websites covered it. Expect it tomorrow with some new photography.
For now, enjoy this video regarding the multi-touch prospects of the G1!
Notable about the web2go that hasn’t really been covered on this blog is the yahoo based search bar that dominates the top of the screen of the new web2go interface. Personally, I’m a google fan but yahoo gets the job done and T-mobile has made a deal with yahoo that apparently includes the sharing of ad revenue. Ad revenue rocks. While T-mobile has the obvious agreement with Google over the G1, T-mobile stated that “yahoo was better suited for dealing with lower end phones.” I don’t know if thats a compliment or an insult but what do I know?!
Also launching with the web2go is the aforementioned appstore, which apparently has rolled out with the launch of the new web2go service. Expect a small selection of apps now with a larger rollout starting later this week. If you’ll recall, T-mobile has been pretty upfront with a specific list of requirements to gain entry into the app store deviating from the craze and mystery that surrounds “selection” into the application store for the iPhone. Hopefully the response to this store will be positive and some useful applications will come out of this as T-mobile disappoints me to no end by locking out most java apps.
Birmingham, Alabama has officially launched 3G this morning and thereby joined the ranks of T-mobile fans everywhere can take advantage of all the grandiose aspects of 3G life. Admittedly I know nothing about Birmingham, so no funny jokes or quips are forthcoming. However, on behalf of all of us at Tmonews I’d like to formally extend our congratulations for becoming a member of the elite 3G club, high speed services just rock.
