As the blogesphere explodes with news of the T-Mobile G1, it seems that there are those that feel the need to speculate on a G2, before the G1 is even officially released. We have watched idly by as other sites dance with speculation, and now that this rumor is being published as fact by a few irresponsible bloggers, it is time we straighten things out. We will be the first to admit that we have been wrong or if we are beaten to a story, however when someone doesn’t do their homework and starts rumors such as “T-Mobile USA to carry HTC HD as G2,” “Sony Xperia coming to T-Mobile,” or if you use Microsoft Paint to fake a T-Mobile branded HTC Touch HD, we are required to correct these attention-seeking stunts. Enough talk, you probably want to know what we dug up about the G2, right?
Well we can begin by telling you that the photo we have seen of the G2, codenamed “Sapphire,” and the photo of the HTC HD that you see above are indubitably different. We can tell you that there will be the same trackball in the middle of the lower part of the G2, as there is in the G1. See the front facing camera on the picture above? Presumably, we will not see that on the G2 either, as T-Mobile will not have video calling at the time the G2 is released.
The T-Mobile Dash II will come over 2 years after the original Dash, while the Curve II and Wing II will both be out over 1 year after their original releases. However, we may not have to wait 2 years or even a full year to pick up the Sapphire. We expect the next T-Mobile Android phone out in late Q2 or Q3 of 2009, and while it may seem like it isn’t that far away, we definitely wouldn’t recommend holding your breath, or waiting to jump on the Android bandwagon until then.

Well we’re not T-Mobile…but from the pictures we have been shown of the G2, and other upcoming devices, you will have nothing to be disappointed about.

All these reviews are saying how they think it is bulky, fat and brick like but i think i will like the feel of the phone. I dont like typing on something that is so thin. Its more comportable when it is a little thicker. (similar to the sidekick)

well i’m hoping that the other htc device in tv upcoming devices is the G2 since it’s supposed to be released in 09 come on tmonews…spill the info already! I have my g1 already and using both my upgrades already, if it’s the g2 let it be! I also saw somehwere very reliable that we are getting video confrencing but it has been mention since I’ve seen it, but I can’ t wait till we do. I was also hoping that the other htc device was the touch hd, but it would have said winmo device next to it. Is it true there is a OTA software update for the G1’s on launch day?

I have held the G1, used the Compass Mode on the map function, talked on it, taken pictures with the 3.0 megapixel auto focus camera, watched youtube videos on it, all while in an EDGE (not 3G) market and I too thought the “chin” at the bottom would cause a problem, but coming from a previous Sidekick 3, Blackberry Pearl and currently an HTC Wing user, I will tell you that I love that phone more than all three and cant wait to get my hands on one of my own (I would say that the G1 would be the talented and gifted offspring if lets say the SK,BB and Wing had a babyphone)!!! Youtube downloaded faster than my Wing can download ringtones. Not to mention, it’s Andriod platform will allow any creator to build a program to enhance the device itself, so anything its missing out of box could be resolved as soon as a SuperGeek (no offense) gets a hold of it, imagine the possibilities!

It is funny how the G1 seems to play to sidekick users with the keyboard, but the user interface seems to play to WIN Mobile and Old Palm users, who are used to using a stylus for input.
I for one am way faster with a stylus then a keyboard, and it allows the phone to be one third slimmer!

UPS says scheduled delivery tomorrow for me, but newegg says today. Newegg also shows in transit to Laurel, MD at 7:36am today from OH. There’s no way mine will get to Laurel and then to VA and on a truck for delivery today. At least I know I’ll have it tomorrow. I did get to play with the demo my local store had (non 3G area) yesterday for about 30 minutes. It was pretty cool…can’t wait for my own.
