FINALLY! It took all morning but I was finally able to finish my order. Black phone, $25 data plan. Hey, not bad.. I was paying $6 a month for “T-Zones” for my ancient Samsung handset. $25/mo for 3G and 400 messages seems reasonable.

Be warned, though, they charge you an $18 upgrade fee (at least for the $179 upgrade) and tax as well.

  • ACE

Finally, I got it! I had to keep refreshing, over and over.

  • l3wish

Well the upgrade page works now but i can’t get through the order page!!

  • Caseybea

Hmmm- let’s see. With Google having oh, I don’t know— perhaps the biggest freaking server farm on the planet and bandwidth all over– why they didn’t work with T-Mobile to partner the ordering site together is beyond me.

My.T-Mobile.com is slow on a NORMAL day. takes me forever to wait to see my billing details each month.

  • Baron

AMEN, Ed! T-Mobile is making a major mistake by offering that $179 upgrade price ONLY to current customers past their contracts (I doubt that there are a ton of these customers who have been waiting to upgrade to the G1, seeing how there’s been little advertisement of this phone). If T-Mobile offered that $179 price to all current T-Mobile users, they could lock us up for a couple more years, and by doing this they also limit our options….what I mean by that is that when current T-Mobile users ARE past their contracts, they have the option to either upgrade to the G1 at a reasonable price OR leave T-Mobile and go for the iPhone or Instinct for a similar price. If T-Mobile was smart, they would offer a more attractive price now.

GOT IT! It was Tough Though………. Had to keep Reloading the Page Got I got the Black One……..

  • The Booch

Got mine. All black, and for the pre-sale price!

  • domiiniicano

I WANT THE WHITE ONE!!! HOW CAN I PRE-ORDER THAT ONE? IS IT AVAILABLE FOR THE PRE-ORDER?

  • Sanjath

If we return the phone can the contract extension also be canceled? Since phone is arriving only after a month, but the contract extension is starting on the day of the order. Not sure how this is all going to work. I am also on the Family plan and I want to upgrade only one phone. Too many questions and the site is down. Colors that are available dont look all that great either!

  • http://brad.melendy.com Brad

I personally was waiting for the shadow II, then heard about the G1 and decided to wait for that. I’ve been out of my contract for about 6 months, patiently waiting for the right new phone to come available. So I’m exactly in the right position, existing customer outside of my contract waiting for a particular phone. ;-)

  • Kaykordeath

Is there any idea on when the pre-sale ends? My upgrade isn’t available until Oct 3…

  • http://brad.melendy.com Brad

I understand that the white is only available from retail shelves later in October.

  • l3wish

Go ahead the site works now I GOT IT!!!!!!

  • McBravio

I’m so tired of logging onto my.tmobile.com and seeing my bill staring me in the face over and over!! Called tmobile support and was AGAIN disappointed by the rude and unhelpful woman on the line. Why did I think Tmobile would change anything for the launch of this awesome phone? Over the years they’ve been screwing me with overcharges and other BS and the only reason I stayed with them is b/c i kept having to sign a contract extension for one reason or another. I thought things were going to be different for this launch but NO. TMobile is and always will be Cell Company Amateur Hour!!

  • SheShe

Y r u all suprised u should have saved ur upgrades like everyone else

  • sam

the white one isn’t available for pre-sale. only when it comes out on shelves on october 22. and the pre-sale ends when they run out of the limited stock of phones they have set aside for the pre-sale.

  • cheryl

Your pricing for an upgrade has nothing to do with your contract. It is based on the last time you upgraded to get the best price. At 22 months from your last upgrade is when you get the best price. At this point some phones have better prices than a new coustomer. Tmobile.com will not say how long its been. Call 611 and ask how long its been. If you are at like 20 months, good tenure, pay on time, then most of the time we push an upgrade through faster for you. Its my day off so I don’t know if coustomer care can order it any ways. For those complaining abpout the price…. 1. You got your discount when you opened your acount also and the new guy has to wait the same as you for a full discount. 2. The iphone was way more. Tmobile can’t just give out free phones just because you “think” you are a great coustomer.

  • PsychoChild

Yeah it took me almost a hour to get thru it and I didn’t have a upgrade so I paid 300 I don’t care I want a new phone I have been using the dash which Im sure to sell for at least 150 still by the time this thing comes out. But if someone is interested I have a mda for sale currently 200 obo + Shipping its unlocked also contact me @ awcvox@yahoo.com

  • PsychoChild

yeah customer care cant do shit for u I called them they are just like keep trying

  • Alex

    NO UMA!!!!

  • James

I had to reload the page at every single step. I’m not sure whether my order even went through or if I ordered 1, 2, or 5 phones. Is there a way to confirm your order?

  • Lu

Help!!! I’m in the upgrade section and there is no G1!!!! Whats going on? The last time I upgraded my phone was 22 months ago. I want the G1!!!!!!

  • Jim

To someone who paid the $299 price, do you have to sign a new two-year contract to get that price or by paying the $299 are you exempt from any contract extension?

  • JD
  • Huh?

Stephen Roy, if you’re a Flexpay customer ATT won’t even approve you for a postpay account, so good luck getting treated “right” by them.

  • Caseybea

Hilarious. Got order page.. got price (179)…. got disclaimer about where 3G is… hit “continue to checkout”.

“We’re sorry, but” ……(upgrades not available at this time).

This whole experience is making me re-think whether or not I really want to fork over the money or not. We’ll see. I might just wait until I *have* 3g in my city…..

  • talon

Thank you cheryl thats something the majority of customers don’t understand. T-Mobile is not going to be giving out full discount on phones whenever you feel like getting the newest device just because you’ve been with us for 4 years or whatever. To those people paying 299 for the phone, make sure thats the FULL price of the phone or else its probably a partial discount and you are still renewing your contract for 2 years.

  • James

Yes, I got to the last page for checkout and got the “We’re sorry, but online handset upgrades…” page too. Did my order go in? Argh.

  • l3wish

@James the only way your order could go through is if you go this page at the end.

Also check under Upgrade phone You should get this message

Your upgrade order is in process.
You currently have an order in process. Please check back later or call Customer Care at 1 (877) 453 1304 for questions.

  • mcgoo25

Insurance/warranty on the phone, for those who are asking is going to be a 5.99 premium, with probably a $130 deductible

  • LimeDZeze

It took a while, plus a phone call to t-mobile (Cust. Service rep couldn’t help but he was very nice and just said keep trying), but I finally was able to get thru and order a G1. Woot!

  • James

I saw the screen loading flash for a second before the error.

Anyway, I just made it through and placed my order. Hopefully, I don’t get two phones. :)

  • brian

This is not the dream I’ve dreamed of.

  • Yam007

After 20 tries or so I was able to finally place my order. Do they actually charge us for it upfront or once it is released next month. I got me a black one. YEAH BABY!!!

  • J

Just got 2!! One for me and one for my husband. We are on a family plan and BOTH of our lines are out of contract. So for those of you wondering if you’re out of contract, you still get the $179. So excited!!

  • PittsburghGuy

Wow, I’m surprised at all the complaining…I don’t recall anyone forcing people to order the phone! If everyone remembers correctly if you buy an IPhone without a new contract, you get smoked on the price! It’s the same with any Cell Phone company. You can’t expect Tmobile to give away a brand new, one of the kind, cutting edge phone!!!!

My ONLY complaint about Tmobile through the whole process is that in order to get the phone shipped somewhere besides your billing address, you have to pre-pay with a credit card, then pay your bill (even though your account will technically have credit on it) and this still won’t guarantee that it will go to the second address unless you call Tmobile within an hour of placing your order.

Either way, I can’t wait to get my G1 on the 22nd. Now we just need some of that sweet 3G in Pittsburgh!!!!!!!!

  • RS

how can t-mobile expect to sell 400K G1 units by the end of this year when it cant even keep up with the demand of pre-order online?!!!

  • Mockerfab4

Well definitely been excited about this phone, but I think now I’ll wait. I’m one of those loyal customers that won’t be able to take advantage of the upgrade price because I’m not outside the 22 month window. Also, I really wanted the white one. Hopefully that price will available sometime before Christmas for current Tmo customers like me.

  • chriaxx

Its’s still ugly. And the UI is fugly too. They couldn’t do better?

  • Tom

How much will it cost after the preorder? is 399.99 the cost w/o contract? or do they require you to sign a contract either way, making 399.99 the price w/ contract after the preorder?

  • Annie

Caseybea and James…don’t worry. You were just timed out so hit the back key and submit order again. Everytime you get the error message just hit the back key, and re-submit. Don’t log out! You’re almost finished! Hang in there and be the pround owner of the most technologically advanced handheld.

Eventually.. you’ll get through. My coworker and I continued to do this until we received the confirmation page.

    You can do it!

  • sam

if you don’t like it.. then don’t order it & stop bitching. is that so hard? as for the rest of us that think this phone is the shit.. we’ll be happy with our purchace and you can suck it. :)

  • remnique

such a ugly phone, hope tmobile comes out with a prettier phone

  • jb

For those who were able to complete the order, did you receive a confirmation e-mail? I was able to complete an order for the black G1, but didn’t receive any email. Any idea if we’re supposed to?

  • laphoneuser

it’s 12:34 pacific coast time, and I was just able to get my order through.

    Yeah!

  • Caseybea

As of 2:36 CDT, the upgrade page(s) seem to be functioning – I was able to go back and forth and back and forth and compare the photos of the Brown vs the Black one. I initially thought “brown- like the Shadow” – but then the super light-colored keyboard turned me off. I’m used to using black devices- black desktop keyboard- black pager with keyboard, etc.

I’ve been out of contract so long (more than 2 years), I almost forgot what it’s like to feel “locked in” again. Tmo just hasn’t had a phone that made me want to sign something.

    Oh well.

Oh yeah– no 3G at ALL in my metro area– but 90% of the time, I’m at my office or at home, where wireless joy abounds. EDGE will be painful in other areas- but at least, “useable”. Sort of :-)

  • 98clru

I think I saw something about sim card being different for g1 due to 3g than standard. That would mean any opportunities to reseal VERY limited. Don’t know details on dash, one poster was hoping to sell for $150 but I think any advanced phone (BB included) will have resale drop after today. If you look on ebay treos are dirt cheap now that iPhone is out. Anyone with details on GSM card or chargers/charging port? Don’t see a port on any of the photos.

  • justin

I ordered mine and my friend is calling about his now… :)

  • Rich

I was just able to order mine online. I’ve been with T-Mo for 6 years and it is frustrating that I have to pay full price, but oh well, it’s about time T-Mo puts out a hyped up phone.
