Comments on: 3G launches this week!

A couple things are confusing to me. #1, reading the words on this page imply that it IS “available in all stores within 3G boundary area”. so can I buy this tomorrow? or should it read “will be available at some point”? #2 What does “open system” mean; can I run software meant for plam OS or pocket PC Windows on it? little help please?

I’ll give them a few months to get 3G in my area. We don’t even have EDGE yet. If they don’t have 3G here say within 6 months, I may have to go with another carrier. I’m from Wichita Falls, a town of about 100,000 people. Verizon and Sprint are running 3G networks here. AT&T doesn’t even have a 3G network here yet, but for some odd reason they have 3G in Lawton, a town about 50 miles north of here with less people.

I’m curious. 3G won’t reach my area but I would still like the phone. The only drawback would be that it would operate on the EDGE network right? Which is just slower? I would still be able to use GPRS?

Does anyone have any ideas as to how T-Mobile is going to roll out their 3g network, in regards to smaller cities? My guess would be that they are going to transfer over all the major metropolitan areas first, then move to smaller citites.

So I guess that my question is; how long is it going to take them to start setting up 3g coverage in smaller cities?

Bah humbug. No 3G in my metro city (MKE) – and not in the forecast either.

Part of me says, “this is so cool, even using it on a cruddy EDGE network might be ‘OK’ to tide me over”. I mean, it’s awesome.

The second part of me says, “good excuse to NOT get the G1 V1.0 and all its hype, and instead wait (STILL out of contract!) until i HAVE 3G, which by my estimated timeframe, won’t be another YEAR. *Then* get the G1, which by then will be the G2, or G1 2.0, or……”

Long live my KRZR. *sigh*…..
